On this episode of Exposure Time, we preview the documentary, Ennio, a retrospective look at the work of master film composer, Ennio Morricone.......... sorry I got lost thinking of the sweeping beauty that is the theme to One Upon a Time in the West. Well, at this point, might as well save all of the gushing, flowery language, and superlatives for the episode. It's a good one.

église AB Lausanne ; KJV Luke 12 In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven. ...

église AB Lausanne ; KJV Genesis 42 Now when Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, Why do ye look one upon another? And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live, and not die. And Joseph's ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt. But Benjamin, Joseph's brother, Jacob sent not with his brethren; for he said, Lest peradventure mischief befall him. And the sons of Israel came to buy corn among those that came: for the famine was in the land of Canaan. And Joseph was the governor over the land, and he it was that sold to all the people of the land: and Joseph's brethren came, and bowed down themselves before him with their faces to the earth. And Joseph saw his brethren, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them, and spake roughly unto them; and he said unto them, Whence come ye? And they said, From the land of Canaan to buy food. And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him. And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them, Ye are spies; to see the nakedness of the land ye are come. And they said unto him, Nay, my lord, but to buy food are thy servants come. ...

Wednesday Oct. 6, marks the 20th anniversary of what is arguably considered California's most significant high school football game of all time — and some have made a case it's the nation's most significant high school football game to date. It was the first ever meeting between the nation's top two ranked teams. This special bonus episode features four guests: Two who coached in the game, one who played in the game and one who reported on the game. Host Long Beach Poly was ranked No. 1 in the nation by USA Today, despite the fact that its opponent, De La Salle-Concord, was entering with a national-record winning streak of 116 games. A few other rankings had it flipped, but still. The game reportedly sold 17,000 tickets and 121 media credentials were issued, which included such publications as Sports Illustrated and the New York Times. A combined nine future NFL players took the field that night (including the player who joined us for this show). Regular listeners of this podcast are aware that longtime De La Salle assistant coach Terry Eidson is a weekly visitor to our show. And we couldn't let the anniversary pass without seeing if he could roundup some of his closest friends for a chat about the monumental game. He certainly came through. Hosts Chace and Ben welcome legendary Spartans head coach Bob Ladouceur, former De La Salle star QB Matt Gutierrez, one-time De La Salle beat writer for the Contra Costa Times, Joe Stiglich, and of course Coach Eidson.

Eller du ser Sergio Leone reflektere den amerikanske sjæl i sit beskidte italienske spejl i ‘One Upon a Time in the West' fra 1968.

We talk parable of the sower, humbly contrast cancel culture with Christian models of penitence, forgiveness, & reconciliation, and think about the powerful beauty and old Hollywood nostalgia of some of Tarantino's recent set pieces in "Inglorious Basterds" and One Upon a Time in Hollywood" (as well as his affecting homages to genre cinema). Where do ideas come from? A head full of all kinds of random stuff. You have to feed your soul, as Chalice puts it, and then you'll make interesting connections and come up with new thoughts - which for anyone in creative marketing is vital. In this episode, we talk about how a cat up a tree sparked an award winning campaign, and why a boxing match might be as useful as a visit to an art gallery.
In this podcast, I explore the difference between luck and opportunity. Sometimes, we all make excuses for why things are not working out, it's only natural to get discouraged. When you are feeling like this, I recommend the book "One Upon a Cow" by Camillo Cruz. It's a quick read but has an profound message of not using excuses to keep you from succeeding. Oftentimes we rely too much on excuses - not being rich enough, smart enough, having the right connections, whatever it is. But how often do we look inside ourselves to see what could or is holding us back. If you want a fuller explanation of the book Once Upon a Cow by Dr. Camillo Cruse and Victor Hanson, watch the Youtube video. There is seemingly nothing in our society today that has not become politicized. From what bathrooms we use to the soda we drink, to the food we eat. Sometimes if feels as if common sense and good judgment have gone out the window. We forget there are some absolutes. There are some facts that are irrefutable. Sometimes to ignore this, is to do irreparable damage. One of the areas where this is certainly true is with respect to the environment. Where once protecting the natural environment was a conservative value, today for conservatives attacking those that seek to protect the environment has become an applause line. For environmental activists, their extreme views, their disregard for business and property rights have helped to push the reaction on the other side. In short there is plenty of blame to go around. However renowned lawyer Frederic Rich doesn't assess blame. Instead, in his book Getting to Green: Saving Nature, he looks for a bipartisan answer. My conversation with Frederic Rich:

When I was a teenager my Mom tried to teach me how to sew, but I never really learned. I don't have the best fine motor skills. It's not a matter of effort; I will try really hard. I'm just not good at it. When I moved from Minnesota to California in 1979 I had very few clothes and very little money, so I would just wear the same clothes over and over again until they wore out. Actually I never liked to admit that something was worn out, not if it was one of my favorite shirts or pants, so there were times I wore clothes with some holes in them. For the most part it didn't bother me, but from time to time someone would notice that there were buttons missing from my shirt or that I had holes in my back pants pockets, and it would be a little bit embarrassing. But mostly it just frustrated me because there was nothing I could do about it; I just didn't have it in me to fix those holes.
