On today's episode of the Buck Junkie Podcast, we've been gone the past couple weeks but we've been getting down on some SERIOUS hunting here lately (00:12)! Malcom and Jamie went out to the stands this past week, and Jamie got the short end of the stick (04:30)... Mikey and Will went out looking for a couple does but came back with some KILLER bucks (08:05)! It may be our first year using it, but BOY has that standing corn made a HUGE difference (16:10). Is the corn easier to manage than our previous plots (19:50)? Malcom went out to Texas to hunt some Axis deer, and he came back with a HAUL (22:31). Mark and Malcom took a trip out to North Dakota, and you wouldn't BELIEVE the wildlife out there (27:56)! We are SMACK DAB in the middle of deer season, so if you ain't out there, go hop in a stand (36:11)! Jamie's had a full schedule here lately with both the Arkabulta Physically Challenged Hunt and Hope Outdoors (38:14). We've all had our fair share of mounts made, but these might just be the COOLEST mounts we've ever seen (42:55)! Finally, we're closing out with heading back to the stands to hopeful tag and bag a few more bucks (45:26)!

PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED PERSON

On today's episode of the Buck Junkie Podcast, we're smack dab in the middle of rut season here in Mississippi (00:10)! We've all seen buck chase after does, but have you ever seen a doe chase a BUCK (03:45)? Timing is crucial during deer season, here's our BEST times to hit the stands (05:33). With all the advances in hunting technology, maybe we've grown a LITTLE spoiled (11:11)... This past weekend, Mark managed to go and put himself on the board BIG TIME (13:50), and this Mississippi wind ain't no joke (19:00)... We're deep in the rut now, here's what we're seeing out on the fields (21:00). Is it true that deer REALLY know where we are out in the stands (29:54)? After a successful hunt this past weekend y'all KNOW we had some good eatin' (31:42). This might be the best skinning knife we've ever used (36:17)! Jamie had an awesome time being a helping hand at the North Mississippi Physically Challenged Hunt (42:53)! Finally, we close out with some of our upcoming plans and gear up to head back to the stands (1:01:30)!

Most often, when we talk about homesteading, we talk to young, healthy people who are all-in in this lifestyle. But there's an entire demographic we're missing. There are many, many elderly and physically challenged people who are also living this lifestyle - and thriving! I had the opportunity to chat today with Louetta Robinson - talk about an inspiring story! Not only is she ((ahem)) no spring chicken, she also has some pretty difficult health issues leaving her very physically challenged. However, when she was at her unhealthiest, she KNEW that her lifestyle had to change if her health was going to change so she moved back out to her off-grid homestead and dug in! Her story is inspirational and super informative. If you would love to homestead but wonder if you can physically manage it, she has some excellent tips and wisdom that might be of tremendous benefit. Anyone who has ever struggled in this homestead lifestyle is SURE to be encouraged through her story!

Walking with the Saints Podcast | Feast Day of St. Angela Merici, January 22 | Patron Saint Disabled and Physically Challenged People Today's saint is not very popular, but the Religious Order she founded must be known to many, especially the youth. She was an Italian religious educator who founded the Company of St. Ursula, in 1535. This group is known today as the Order of Ursulines. The Ursulines serve the Church through their schools and places of prayer throughout Europe, then worldwide, including the Philippines, and particularly in North America. Angela was born in 1474, in a small town near the shore of Lake Garda in Lombardy, Italy. At ten years of age, she, her only sister, and her brothers left orphans and they lived with their uncle. Unfortunately, her sister died also and she grieved very much her departure from this earth. Angela was a beautiful girl, and when people began to give her attention, she dyed her beautiful hair with soot. She joined the Third Order of St. Francis but when her uncle died she returned to her home and lived with her brothers. Being a very devout Christian. God was pleased to give her special graces, one of which was seeing visions of the future. One of these visions predicted that she was to found an association of virgins that were to devote their lives to religious training for young girls. Tradition also narrates that while traveling to Rome, she became blind, but she continued her journey so as to obtain the indulgences being offered by the Pope. Her sight was restored when she came back, right on the place where she got blind. On November 25, 1535, Angela gathered 12 young women, who, together with her committed themselves to teaching young girls. Consequently, they founded the Company of St. Ursula. Her goal was to improve family life through the Christian education of young girls who would later become wives and mothers of families. The Ursulines were said to be the first teaching order of women religious. After four years, the group had grown to 28 members. They lived in the world teaching the girls of their own neighborhood. They wore no special uniform and took no formal religious vows. Angela wrote the Rule of Life for the group which required the practice of celibacy, poverty, and obedience in their own homes. They opened orphanages and schools. On March 18, 1537, Angela was elected “Mother and Mistress” of the group. In 1544, four years after her death, the Rule was approved by Pope Paul III. Angela spent also much time in prayer. She often visited the tombs of Brescian martyrs to pray. The Company became popular and many young girls came under the direction of the sisters. Schools around the area were founded and many young members joined the company so much so that when Angela died in Brescia on January 27, 1540, there were 24 communities of the Company of St. Ursula. When Angela died, her body was interred in the Church of Sant 'Afra, Italy so as to be near the remains of other martyrs. She was dressed in the habit of the Third Order of St. Francis. Angela was beatified in Rome on April 30, 1768. She was canonized on May 24, 1807 by Pope Pius VII. The Company received formal recognition in 1546. Parishes and schools are dedicated to St. Angela Merici, especially in the United States and Canada. St. Angela Merici, please pray that we may always seek to serve and please God in everything we do and shun the vain things of this world.” Am I happy with my life now or do I desire more comforts and pleasures?

In this episode of Drivetime, Dave speaks with Dr. Steven Fettke concerning how those with physical or mental disabilities are not disqualified from being an active part of ministry within the church. This video references Dr. Fettke's article "The Spirit of God Hovered Over the Waters: Creation, the Local Church, and the Mentally and Physically Challenged, A Call to Spirit-led Ministry" Abstract: What does it mean to be created in the imago dei? Are all created in God's image? To whom should the Spirit-filled Church minister? Contemporary Pentecostal/Charismatic practical theology seems obsessed with cultural relevance and worldly success that is often keyed to a particular pre-packaged program rather than to God's creational and redemptive concerns. In answering the questions about God's creation, God's image, and true Spirit-led ministry, this article will point the Pentecostal/Charismatic Church to the biblical witness that calls for ministry to all people in all states of their creation. Spirit-led laity and professional ministers can resist compliance with popular ministry models of ‘success' and find ways to develop a practical theology that includes ministry to all for whom Christ died as the Spirit leads and empowers. The Spirit of God still hovers over God's creation. If that is true, then those who are mentally and physically challenged must be included in the life of the local church. People afflicted with debilitating illnesses cannot be excluded. Those who have been broken by caring for disabled or ill family members must be remembered. As a local Pentecostal/Charismatic Church develops a Spirit-led practical theology, the members may imagine a different way of ‘doing ministry' from popular models of success. Instead, as the Spirit of God still hovers over all creation, local Spirit-filled lay leaders and professional ministers can courageously and sacrificially minister to all created in the imago dei. When Glenn Hartrick was paralyzed from the chest down after a tragic accident, he was just weeks removed from finishing an Ironman. Prior to that, he was on the cover of Runner's World. Glenn's life was changed forever, but he refused to feel defeated. Instead, Glenn began to pursue marathons and triathlons as a physically challenged athlete. He set big goals, and he conquered them, even qualifying for the Ironman World Championships in 2018. Glenn is the epitome of perseverance and positivity and that shines through in this conversation.
