Hi everyone, I'm Dr. Liza Leal, your host today for the Meridian Medical Dental Healthcare Podcast, powered by Meridian Health Institute — and I'm also known as your Everyday Health Hacker.Today we're talking about what's really happening to your collagen, muscle, and hormones when you're on GLP-1 medications — and more importantly, what you can do to stay looking healthy, strong, and vibrant while you lose weight. A lot of people using GLP medications experience rapid fat loss. While that's wonderful for metabolic health, many people start noticing changes in their skin. Their face can look more hollow or sallow, skin may feel thinner or less elastic, and they may notice sagging in areas like the jawline, neck, arms, or abdomen. So let's talk about how to prevent that.

In this episode of Beauty Bytes, I am exploring the frontier of needle-free regenerative medicine with Dr. Sanjay Batra, a globally recognized scientist and the creator of Juvasonic. We discuss how his device uses a unique combination of sonic vibration and dermabrasion to open the stratum corneum for 10-15 minutes, allowing large molecules like exosomes, polynucleotides, and PRP to penetrate deep into the dermis without a single needle prick.Dr. Batra shares why microneedling might not be the best delivery method for serums (hint: the bleeding actually pushes products out!) and reveals incredible data on using this technology for hair density and restoration . We also cover a fascinating off-label use: how Juvasonic can potentially break down filler nodules (like Radiesse lumps) in just seconds without invasive measures . This is the future of pain-free, high-compliance aesthetic care.

In this episode of the Business of Aesthetics Podcast, host Adeesha Pemananda is joined by Dr. Shino Bay Aguilera, a world-renowned dual board-certified cosmetic dermatologist and a pioneer in bioregenerative techniques and the number one provider of Sculptra aesthetics in the U.S. The discussion, titled "Breaking the Regenerative Plateau: How Clinics Can Differentiate, Diversify, and Scale Beyond Biostimulators in 2026," provides a visionary roadmap for clinics looking to move past traditional biostimulation and into the future of cellular longevity and orchestration. Dr. Shino Bay emphasizes that the next wave of aesthetics isn't about adding more biostimulators; it's about activating the body's own cellular intelligence through orthomolecular signaling, like polyrevitalizing micronutrients, to improve tissue structure and function. He explains the difference between these micronutrients and PRP, detailing how combining them with traditional biostimulators like Sculptra or Radiesse can amplify results, leading to a total rejuvenation of the dermis's structure and function. He shares his practice's financial success, showing a massive return on investment from integrating these inexpensive micronutrients. To stand out in a crowded regenerative space, Dr. Shino Bay advises clinics to educate and elevate their patients' understanding, positioning the body as an ecosystem, not a canvas. He urges practitioners to adopt a philosophy of achieving true bio-restoration—not just external rejuvenation, by integrating functional aesthetic medicine principles like orthomolecular diagnostics, mitochondrial optimization, and hormonal balance into a unified, evidence-based system. Finally, he provides strategic advice on scaling, focusing on diversity through depth, not volume. He covers the financial, operational (investing in full-team training), and regulatory obstacles, stressing the need for compliance, transparency, and partnering with credible, ethical suppliers. Dr. Shino Bay's key takeaway is that every cell is a conscious, living entity that needs nutrition, protection, and hydration; when practitioners deliver this locally, they amplify all other treatment results.

This episode of Beauty Bytes with Dr. Kay is a powerful Five Minute Friday focused on one of the most underrated beauty nutrients: protein. As a facial plastic surgeon and longevity expert, Dr. Kay unpacks why protein is essential for glowing skin, collagen support, and lasting results from aesthetic treatments. Whether you're investing in lasers, Botox, or biostimulators like Sculptra and Radiesse, your treatments can only go so far without the internal building blocks your body needs to regenerate — and protein is at the core. Dr. Kay explains the difference between complete and incomplete proteins, how to structure your intake throughout the day, and why women over 40, those on GLP-1s, and patients navigating menopause must prioritize this macronutrient. You'll learn how protein influences your skin's ability to respond to injectables, maintain facial volume, and repair after treatments like microneedling or threads. This episode is a must-listen for anyone looking to elevate their beauty and wellness game from the inside out. Your beauty Rx this week: protein, protein, protein. Think of it as your most powerful internal skincare step.

1. **Skin Boosters**: These treatments are ideal for individuals with dehydrated skin or those needing a boost, especially as we age or experience hormonal changes like menopause. Skin boosters work on superficial layers of the skin, providing hydration and refreshing the skin without permanent effects.2. **Collagen Stimulation**: Treatments like **Sculptra** and **Radiesse** are emphasized for their ability to stimulate collagen, which helps with skin rejuvenation. Melissa explains that while topicals can assist, they aren't as effective as treatments that reach deeper layers of the skin. Collagen-building injectables and devices (e.g., radiofrequency microneedling) are highlighted as long-term solutions.3. **Radiofrequency Devices**: Devices using radiofrequency (RF) are gaining traction for their skin-tightening and fat-remodeling effects, with minimal downtime. These treatments work by delivering energy to different skin layers to stimulate collagen production and promote tighter, firmer skin.4. **Exosomes**: Melissa explains how exosomes, derived from stem cells, can accelerate skin healing, reduce inflammation, and stimulate collagen production. These are used in professional treatments like microneedling for enhanced rejuvenation. Exosomes function as a director, orchestrating cellular activities for regeneration.5. **Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)**: A favorite among professionals, PRF (including the "Plated" version Melissa recommends) works by harnessing the body's own stem cells and growth factors to rejuvenate the skin. It's applied topically or used in treatments like microneedling for a robust anti-aging effect.6. **Growth Factors**: While similar to exosomes, growth factors are naturally occurring proteins that support cell growth and tissue repair. They're used to improve skin healing and collagen production and are included in various skincare products and professional treatments.7. **Aesthetic Education and Safety**: The conversation wraps with Melissa emphasizing the importance of education in the aesthetic space. She mentions **AestheticsHQ**, a platform designed to help people better understand and select the right treatments, providers, and devices for their specific needs. The platform aims to streamline the process of learning about aesthetic treatments while ensuring safety and personalized care. For Aesthetic Providers: - Want to grow your practice and reach more clients? While fillers are a popular choice for quick results, biostimulants offer a great long-term option for anyone looking to improve their skin health. Biostimulants are great for addressing these deeper signs of aging, especially in places like the temples, cheeks, and jawline, where even a little volume loss can change how you look. While the results take time to show, you'll start to notice a more youthful and refreshed appearance as your body naturally rebuilds collagen. Another plus is that biostimulants can help slow down aging by keeping your collagen levels up. This is ideal for anyone looking for subtle, long-lasting results without the regular maintenance that fillers need! Tune into this week's recap episode, where I share key insights from the latest podcast episode featuring Dr. Sapna Palep. Key Takeaways: - Biostimulants are a natural way to boost collagen. - They differ from fillers, which often lead to an overdone look. - Collagen loss begins in our late twenties and accelerates during menopause. - Sculptra and Radiesse are popular biostimulants. - Biostimulants provide long-lasting results compared to fillers. - Candidates for biostimulants often have significant volume loss. - The treatment requires patience as results take time to appear. - Proper aftercare is essential to avoid complications. - Lifestyle choices impact the longevity of collagen results. - Dr. Mina advocates for a natural approach to aesthetics. Cellulite can appear as dimples, ridges, or waves on the thighs and buttocks, affecting anyone regardless of age, body type, or skin type. It's not the same as laxity or crepiness, and it's a tough issue to tackle. Subcision-based treatments like Avéli and Cellfina are effective for cellulite dimples but come with bruising and recovery time. Less invasive options like hyper diluted Radiesse or Sculptra injections can help but still fail to treat the entire area. Energy based treatments can treat large areas but often with only temporary effects or mild improvement. Find out what causes cellulite, what makes it worse, and what options are available to improve it. In 2010 Julie Bass Kaplan, an experienced nurse injector from California, was herself treated with Radiesse in the mid face during a training session. Julie suffered an infraorbital artery vascular occlusion, and went on to experience all the stages of necrosis. When a clinician shares their own personal experience of a complication, as Julie did so graciously in this case, it is a true gift to the rest of the medical aesthetics community, because we get to learn from very well documented images and a detailed breakdown of each stage of the complication. In this week's Aesthetics Mastery Show, Dr Tim goes into detail about the clinical aspects of Julie's case, including:- Explaining what the mottled rash - livedo reticularis - is and how to look out for it in your patients.- Some important learning about how the needle's angle of entry might have contributed to the occlusion.- Which other vessels might have been affected and why.- And a detailed breakdown of the stages of necrosis, including images from Julie.Thank you so much again to Julie for sharing her experience, and the invaluable learning for all of us that has come from that
Following last week's Aesthetics Mastery Show in which Dr Tim summarised the case of Julie Bass Kaplan FNP-BC who suffered a necrotic injury after she was treated with Radiesse, today we tackle the lessons to be taken from this important case.Dr Tim analyses the various risk factors present, including the choice of a non-reversible filler; the injection site; the size of the bolus; the length of the needle; and the training environment in which the injections were carried out.We examine the stages of necrosis that Julie experienced, and are lucky enough to learn from very well documented images.Thank you once again to Julie for sharing her experience, and the invaluable learning for all of us that has come from that. Here's the Instagram live Tim did with Julie where she described the case in her own words: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CLz0nEqlYJq/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_linkFollow Julie on Instagram here where she drops loads of value for fellow injectors: https://www.instagram.com/jubilant.julie/Here is Julie's very helpful Patreon site: https://www.patreon.com/JuvedermjulieOther useful links:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/drtimpearceInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/drtimpearce/Website: https://drtimpearce.com/Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/20kUIxU9rlO3amH8KhXnsy?si=uql3Xnf4Q7Wuj9YXFJ7gIASign up to Dr Tim's free webinar about how to free yourself from complications anxiety: https://www.aestheticcomplications.com/live-training#dermalfiller #medicalaesthetics #aesthetics
