Kansas state education commissioner Randy Watson's main focus is not on the politics of the Kansas State Board of Education. Instead, it's on improving the lives of young people, he said.
We're back in Eastern Texas again for this episode, in which Robert Carter joins us to discuss his transition from his early falconry days flying longwings on ducks, to flying red tailed and Harris's hawks on squirrels. He also is one of the first falconers I've talked to that has incorporated poodles to help in his falconry. This is also another good episode that goes into depth more on living by the falconry principle of adapting your falconry to the quarry and opportunities you have available to you, and many thanks again to Randy Watson for helping to make these episodes recorded in Eastern Texas happen! This episode takes us back down to Eastern Texas to talk about some good ol' fashioned squirrel hawking! I have to acknowledge and give props to this episode's guest, Randy Watson, for helping to make a lot of these Texas-based episodes happen with falconers on his side of the state, including the recent Gary Brewer episode. Randy was generous enough to contact me and have me down to get these recordings made late last year, and it was great getting to hear how he met Gary and initially got into falconry. Talking squirrel hawking with other falconers never gets old, and this episode is no exception! Welcome, and thanks for checking out this first official episode of the newly launched Falconry Chronicles Podcast! Be forewarned, this episode is a lengthy one! It's actually a combination of two different recordings, which took place over the same weekend. Gary was kind enough to take a couple of afternoons to talk at length about his history, which encompasses over four decades in falconry, and discusses how he got into squirrel hawking, discovered his passion for red-tailed hawks, helped with some of the rules and regulations of falconry in Texas, and shared a couple of pretty wild stories! Special thanks to Randy Watson for bringing me down to his part of Texas to get Gary and others recorded for the falconry community! When all three of us first saw “Coming To America,” we didn’t realize that there was, or would be, a lot of controversy surrounding the film. Some thirty-plus years later, there are groups of folks that can’t see the comedy thru the racial and gender politics of the film. We three still find it funny, and we chat about whether it’s because of our nostalgia or because the film is that funny. Coming to America is rated R and was released June 29, 1988 This comedy stars Eddie Murphy as Prince Akeem, Clarance, Saul, Randy Watson. The movie also features the talents of Arsenio Hall as Semmi, Morris, Extremely Ugly Girl and Reverend Brown. Hosts: Daniel Levain, Ian Sweetman, and Eric Sweetman. From Zamunda to Queens travel with us as we explore 1988's Coming to America. Directed by John Landis and with knockout comedic performances, it is hard not to smile at the earnestness of Prince Akeem, the musical stylings of Randy Watson, and the eternal debate of Joe Lewis's age. It's funny. It's romantic. It's Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall in their prime. It has the dad of all dads, James Earl Jones. It begs the question, how could one of our co-hosts not have seen it?! Join Lauren and Ryan as throw down a path of rose petals and discuss this late 80s comedy classic.

Join us for episode 19 where we introduce a new guest for your listening pleasure, Divine aka Delicious aka Randy Watson makes his first podcast appearance. As usual my co host Pierre is here to make us laugh at his pain. We start off by letting the audience know how Pierre and Devine met. Pierre openly admits he did not like Devine because he had a mane of hair and Pierre began balding at age 23. Some how with his power of persuasion, Devine was able to win Pierre over and they have since become besties. The story that Pierre goes into is fucking GOLD! He gives us all the details about the time he had to be savage with a guy at work. Be prepared to laugh out loud! You will always laugh when we talk about Gary in the future. Divine aka Delicious aka Randy Watson tells us how his nick name became Bob. He does not have the patience for drunk idiots to walk down the stairs so most of the time he has to help them. I then share the time i was savagely petty at a bar with a couple of girls that looked like Joi from Friday. Pierre then tells us why you shouldn’t be mean to him if you are drunk, he will absolutely catch you and put your most embarrassing moments on Snap Chat for the world to see. Divine aka Delicious aka Randy Watson shares his thoughts about Pierre when he takes things too far. I have zero idea how we came upon the topic of each of them holding the others dick just to prove they aren’t gay. We wrap up with how I have somehow traumatized Pierre for his birthdays his whole life. Also we now have a vlog on YouTube, its mainly me rambling about nonsense, but you should check it out. Summary: You know how you get into your classroom at the beginning of the year, and all of your students are right at the level they need to be? Everyone’s on grade-level, student engagement is a breeze, and of course everyone loves to read, right?! Right… That’s in a perfect world, and we are far from a perfect world. In actually, when we get into the classroom we find that our students and their specific abilities vary greatly, to say the least! We go to college, study hard for 4 years or more, and walk into the classroom with this fire in our eyes ready to change the world because we believe the children are our future, and we have to teach them well. But we get into the classroom and find that we have to face challenges around classroom management and student engagement that are far more difficult than we realized. Especially when it comes to topics such as reading; some are at grade-level, some are ahead, and some just need Jesus. This is a tough situation to deal with because beyond getting your students to achieve at certain levels, you have to find a way to ignite the desire for them to want to be engaged in order to be successful in the first place. What can be done to get you most challenging students excited to read? Today's Guest: New York City Schools English/Language Arts Educator, Ms. Erica Buddington walks us through how she consistently gets her students excited to read and participate in all things ELA-related!
