“Send Coach John a message”Found a great reflection post for today from The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) where this thought was shared:  “Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines  what you do.  Attitude determines  how well you do it.” - Raymond Chandler.  These 3 things we all can look at a bit better and look at improving them. Our abilities, yes.. We are born with them, but we can improve upon those and others with focused intent.  I for sure need to remember that Motivation is an inside job and of course that goes along with my Attitude too.  I control those and I can and I must, bet better at them.   Thanks for listening.  Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on Apple Podcasts and ITunes or other services where you find this show.  Find me on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/coachtoexpectsuccess/   on Twitter / “X”:  @coachtosuccess   and on Instagram at:  @coachjohndaly  - My YouTube Channel is at: Coach John Daly.   Email me at: CoachJohnDalyPodcast@gmail.com     You can also head on over to https://www.coachtoexpectsuccess.com/ and get in touch with me there on my homepage along with checking out my Top Book list too.  Other things there on my site are being worked on too.  Please let me know that you are reaching out to me from my podcast.  ** I would appreciate anyone to try clicking on the top of the show notes where it says "Send us a text" to leave a few thoughts / comments / questions.  It's a new feature that I'd like to see how it works. **

“Send Coach John a message”I found this post to be a great truth and reminder.  It comes from Dolphins Enlighten (@embracetruejoy) - Where the intro thoughts were this:  “Letting go of the need to have the last word brings inner peace and stops unnecessary arguments.”  The quote itself comes from Rachel Wolchin who said this:  “Maturing is realizing how many things don't require your comment.”  I know for one thing, I need to get better at being more mature in this area for sure.  In today's Internet age, it's one thing for me to keep getting better at not having to respond to each and every post. Some yes, but most of them know.  And - I can't give up my peace for those things that others say, write, post, etc., and keep dwelling on it and let them change my mood for sure. Always something to work on for us to keep getting better with. **

“Send Coach John a message”I found a post from Damon West (@damonwest7) that reminded me about how to get my day going.  He shared this:  “Start your day with one question: how am I going to show up today for myself and for others?  Because your attitude, your effort, and your presence will shape every room you walk into.”  Then spend the day doing your best to be your best for yourself and others.  In all that I have to do, mowing the lawn for example, I need to show up and do my best since I can't do the entire lawn at once - I need to focus in and get the front yard done today and do it the best that I can despite the pain I'm in.  I need to show up and do my best, even when I run an errand that has to get done. Every little thing that we do, it's better when we show up and do our best. **

“Send Coach John a message”I came across a fabulous reminder that is connected to a legend who just passed away.  Gratitude HQ (@gratefuledu64) shared this quote from Dolly Parton “If you see someone without a smile today, give ‘em yours.”  What a fantastic reminder for us to not only help others, but it's also a simple way for us to help ourselves too.  It's also something that is so simple to do and yet, it has a wonderful result attached to it too.  So many people are carrying worries among other things, that a simple smile can remind them of better things.  The legacy of Dolly Parton is something that is being shared all over the world by so many different people since she passed away recently.  What a legacy she has left for us to help live better lives. “Send Coach John a message”I found a fabulous post from Clint Hurdle (@ClintHurdle13), which by the way every post he puts out there is to help others. He's the author of one of my favorite books, “Hurdle-isms - Wit and Wisdom from a Lifetime in Baseball.”  Check Coach out along with his book too!  Two things I found from a recent post of his all dealing with some of his connections to Alcoholics Anonymous. First, he reminds us “by the way, it costs $0 to cheer for others.”  What an amazing and powerful reminder for all of us.  In a world where things seem to be crazier and crazier each and every day (especially in our country due to one person and his out of touch supporters), we all can do something to cheer on others and lift them up!  There was also this quote as part of his post too: “If you think that you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito!”   That one for sure hammers home the point about we are never too small to make a difference for others.  My friends, keep finding things to remind you about the great things you can accomplish for others and that will lead you to doing the same for yourself too! **

“Send Coach John a message”I was reminded (again), of how important it is to simply be open to wanting to get better. The podcast I was listening to that really got me thinking about this topic was from Jon Gordon's podcast, tilted “Rise To Lead” where he interviews his guest Doug Dentler, a CFO with a company who has written a book about this.  The mindset it takes to simply want to get better is HUGE!  I love the reminders that I heard about even people that have this bigtime title (CFO), need to still find people to help them become better. Is an 18-Month Blackout on the Horizon? Energy's Perfect Storm

Energy News Beat Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 23, 2026 32:21

Welcome to the Energy Newsbeat, where host Stu Turley breaks down the ten most critical energy stories shaping global markets and infrastructure. In this episode, we explore a landscape marked by unprecedented challenges and opportunities: from the alarming vulnerability of the U.S. power grid to coordinated cyberattacks, to Iraq's aggressive push to double oil production and reshape Middle Eastern energy politics. As geopolitical tensions escalate—with Ukraine striking Russian refineries and the U.S. tightening sanctions on Iran—the global energy market faces historic supply constraints, record-high refining margins, and tanker costs that are reshaping fuel prices worldwide. Meanwhile, the explosive growth of AI data centers is creating a power demand crisis that threatens to overwhelm manufacturing capacity for years to come. This episode examines how these interconnected forces—from grid security and sanctions effectiveness to renewable energy policy and oil market dynamics—are fundamentally transforming the energy landscape and what it means for consumers, investors, and national security.1. U.S. Grid Vulnerability & Blackout RiskThe host discusses the critical vulnerability of the U.S. power grid to coordinated attacks on substations. Former FERC chairman John Wellinghoff warned that targeting just nine key substations could cause an 18-month nationwide blackout, potentially affecting millions. The episode emphasizes the importance of backup power systems and preparedness.2. Iraq's Oil Production Expansion & OPEC DynamicsIraq is aggressively pursuing plans to double its oil production capacity to 8-10 million barrels per day, with major oil companies (Chevron, Exxon, BP) securing new contracts. The discussion explores whether OPEC will allow this expansion and how Iraq is building export routes through Turkey to bypass the Strait of Hormuz.3. Sanctions on Iran & Their EffectivenessThe episode covers U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessen's sanctions strategy against Iran, examining whether sanctions are effectively constraining Iran's oil exports. Evidence shows Iran's exports have collapsed from 1.8-2.1 million barrels per day to near zero, though Iran is finding workarounds using land-based truck transport.4. Drone Threats to Oil InfrastructureThe UAE has installed massive metal cage structures over oil storage tanks in Abu Dhabi for anti-drone protection—a response to increasing drone strikes on energy infrastructure in the Ukraine-Russia conflict. This reflects how modern warfare is changing energy security.5. Ukraine's Strikes on Russian RefineriesUkraine has successfully struck major Russian refineries, including the Lukoil refinery in Perm, degrading Russia's refining capacity and military fuel supply. This has significant global oil market implications.6. Diesel Supply Shortages & Crack SpreadsHedge funds are reducing bearish bets on European diesel, signaling expected fuel supply shortages. U.S. crack spreads (the profit margin for refining) have hit record highs at $102 per barrel, driven by tight inventories and high tanker costs—not refinery gouging.7. AI Data Center Power Demand CrisisGE Vernova's gas turbine backlog has hit 116 gigawatts with delivery delays until 2031. The episode explores how AI data centers' massive power appetite is creating a manufacturing bottleneck, forcing companies to "bring your own power" (BYOP) solutions.8. Floating Offshore Wind Farms in BritainThe UK is moving to expensive floating offshore wind farms with 200 new turbines and 300-400 kilometers of cables. The host argues this approach will increase energy costs and require natural gas backup, contradicting net-zero goals.9. Winter Gasoline Waiver & Ethanol PolicyThe Trump administration issued an emergency waiver allowing early transition to winter-grade gasoline to help curb prices. The host advocates for eliminating ethanol mandates, arguing it wastes energy and increases consumer costs.10. Venezuela Oil Rig RestartSchlumberger (SLB) is preparing to restart 15 idle oil rigs in Venezuela to ease drilling bottlenecks, though Venezuela faces energy constraints that complicate operations.Overarching Theme: The podcast emphasizes that global energy markets are tight, oil and gas remain essential long-term, and geopolitical factors (sanctions, conflicts, infrastructure attacks) are reshaping energy supply chains and prices.1.What if 9 Substations were Targeted on the US Grid? Would Jon Wellinghoff's Prediction of an 18-Month US Grid Blackout Happen?2.Will Iraq leave OPEC, or will OPEC allow Iraq to double exports within six years?3.Will Choking Iran's Economy End the War, or Are They Too Resilient?4.UAE Cageing Up Their Oil Storage for Anti-Drone Protection5.Ukraine Hits Lukoil Refinery. How Degraded is the Russian Refinery Capacity?6.Hedge Funds Cut Bearish Bets on European Diesel to Two-Year Low7.GE Vernova's Gas Turbine Backlog Hits 116 GW. What Does This Mean for the AI Market?8.Britain Doubles Down on Wind by Moving to Floating Wind Farms for More Expensive Energy9.US Allows Early Sales of Winter Gasoline to Help Curb Prices10.SLB Prepares to Restart 15 Oil Rigs in VenezuelaA shout-out to Steve Reese and the Reese Energy Consulting group for sponsoring the Podcast https://reeseenergyconsulting.com/.Data2 if you have any business systems, can you trust A? “Send Coach John a message”Another fired up post that I found and it reminds me of so many things. It comes from  Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and the simple message is:  “Be someone who still tries.” The details of the post are here:  “Be someone who still tries.  After failure, frustrations, and heartache - be a person who musters up the courage to try and believe that good things are yet to come.”   A big part of this is realizing every single human has failures, frustrations and heartache!  It's up to us to choose what we will do with those things.  Just like yesterday's message, this one too reminds us to keep going and to keep caring!!  I had a great conversation with my good friend Joe D. (former boss) - and one of the things we spoke about was the old saying, “do not grow weary doing good.”   Joe gave me a copy of “The 10 Commandments of Leadership” from Dr. Kent M. “Send Coach John a message”I found a great “formula” for all of us to use in our lives.  It comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and it's The (Complete) Formula for Getting Lucky!!  It is Preparation (personal growth) + Attitude (belief / mindset) + Opportunity (a good thing coming your way) + Action (doing something about it) = LUCK!  So many of these things we can work on creating every single day and then we will see different results for sure compared to if we didn't have this formula.  Keep investing in each of these pieces of this formula my friends.  I need to keep this up for sure!! **

“Send Coach John a message”This short gem came from Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) where he shared this #MindsetMonday message.  “The mind is like a Garden.  You need to weed the negative and feed the positive.”  Wow.. simple,  yet total 100% truth!  There are plenty of things that we can let build up in our minds and hearts that are weeds.  Things that will discourage us, doubt ourselves, be negative, etc.  What we need to do is “fertilize” our minds and hearts with the stuff that is full of joy, encouragement, builds our peace, connects with our burn and our life-purpose along with helping us to connect to the people we love and care for.  Even if you are like me and not much of a gardener, taking care of this kind of weeding and fertilizing helps us wherever we go. **

The supplies Matt arrived with are running thin. He has to head into a store for more. The local grocery store / truck stop / hardware store had garden tools and seeds so he can grow his own food. Matt stocked up, though he realizes he has no real idea how to about gardening. On the way back home, he spots the little library of the village of Warren. Its one computer with firewalled internet was not much help with how to grow corn. The very plain young woman librarian found him the perfect beginner book but he could not check it out. Matt eventually noticed that Erin, the librarian was attracted to him. Visible Quips? Patreon introduced a new feature late last year. Quips would be short form public posts — a bit like tweets — that could include text, photo, and video. These were supposed to help content creators be more visible. I have been posting Quips for a couple of months, mostly about little things going on around the homestead. These have filled in the gaps between chapters. I WAS going to tell you to check out my Patreon page (www.patreon.com/mic_roland) to view my Quips, but it seems that some OS and browser combinations don't show the Quips tab on my homepage.  If you see it, great. “Send Coach John a message”Super short, but very powerful reminder here from Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard) where they shared this:  Marcus Aurelius said it right - “Discipline is the art of not betraying yourself.”  Again, it shows how throughout the history of humans being around, there have been lessons out there for such a long period of time. Yet - we all need to keep learning these things and implementing them into our lives!  Remember, have the talk with the person in the mirror about things like this. **

“Send Coach John a message”I found this powerful reminder from Nancy Lieberman (@NancyLieberman) all connected to why we do the right thing. “If you do good expecting a reward, that is when it stops being a virtue.  Real growth is not a transaction.  You do not do good to collect something.  You do it because you are already something.”  BOOM!!  What a powerful reminder about how we go about our lives, every day!  Doing the right thing is the way to go because it's the right thing.  We should live our lives more and more with this. Again, think of how the world would be a much better place. **

“Send Coach John a message”I found a much needed reminder from Mindset Machine (@mindsetmachine) where this was shared:  “People are addicted to easy and easy is the reason their life stays hard.”  In today's world with so many distractions and things that we can choose from on how to spend our time - it is not difficult to choose easy things.  I've done it for sure. But you know what?  As I reflect and connect to this concept, I look back at all the times where I took my foot off the accelerator and just did things that were fun (watch t.v., spend time playing games, time on my phone and computer looking up nonsense, etc.), then I felt down about myself.  I felt drained actually.  I felt tired and worn out.  Then I had no focus and energy to do things that really mattered and were important.  There is the thought, if we always choose what's easy and fun all the time, later the price to be paid is a lot worse. Our life will not be fun and it will be more difficult than it really had to be.  This does not mean to never have fun. It's a necessary part of life for sure. But not all the time. **

“Send Coach John a message”Wow.. did I need to find this one and connect with it. It comes from Mind Decoded Psch (@mindDecodedpsch) and they are sharing this thought that: “You don't need more time.”  The main post shares this:  “Protect your focus.  It's your greatest advantage.”   This hit me hard as I re-posted it with this thought:  “Looking back, I've done mostly a poor job at this … I know I will keep trying to get better.”  It's true.  We don't need to look to have more time if we keep having poor habits that our life is influenced by. There are so many examples every single day where I know a little more focus would help me more than I know.  Our focus helps us to make choices and do things we need to do in order to live our best lives.  Think about all the times where this is true.  Look in your rear-view mirror and connect how true this statement is.  I know I sure do have plenty of times in my past. The key is for me (and us) to learn from those moments, not to beat ourselves up about them.  Keep.  Getting.  Better!  Look to protect your focus, just once.  Then do it again. And again.  I sure do know that I need to work on this one moment at a time.  I will keep trying for sure. **

Stijn Schmitz welcomes back Colonel Douglas Macgregor to the show. Doug is a Retired U.S. Army Colonel and Decorated Combat Veteran. He offers a stark assessment that the Middle East conflict is fundamentally a Jewish war with no vital strategic interest for the United States, describing it as already regional and increasingly merging with other global flashpoints. He argues that the recent halt in hostilities is merely a pause, not a resolution, as no underlying issues have been settled. The conversation highlights how three conflicts—Ukraine, the Gulf region, and the cold war with China—are converging into a larger, dangerous alignment of Russia, China, and Iran against US and Israeli interests. Macgregor warns that Iran has effectively weaponized the Strait of Hormuz, and a potential Houthi blockade could cripple Saudi Arabia's ability to export oil, threatening the existence of Gulf states unless they expel American forces. He contends that the US has been militarily defeated by Iran's strategic use of new technology and space-based surveillance, yet political pressure from Zionist billionaires and the Israel lobby prevents President Trump from disengaging. This dynamic, he argues, will likely restart the bombing campaigns. The discussion shifts to the profound economic implications, with Macgregor predicting severe market fragility, potential bank runs, and even a depression. Against this backdrop, he sees gold becoming more valuable than ever, propelled by central bank buying, de-dollarization, and monstrous US debt. He cites predictions of gold reaching $13,000 to $15,000 per ounce, possibly sooner than 2031 if conflict reignites. Macgregor reveals his personal investment philosophy of holding cash and precious metals exclusively, emulating J.D. Rockefeller's strategy of maintaining liquidity to capitalize on distressed opportunities. He praises Palisades Goldcorp for its strong cash position and strategic investments in gold, uranium, and other critical minerals, positioning it for substantial upside in a deteriorating global economy. “Send Coach John a message”I came across a post from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) where he shares this reminder: “Be a light to someone else! There is no greater flex than the positive impact you can have on another life. Your greatest currency is the effect you have on others!” #BeALight.  Listen to the passion that (@itjusttrey) has in sharing this message. I know there seems to be a ton of negativity, anger, hatred, division, lies, etc., out and around our world right now.  All of us can make a difference if we look to keep getting better ourselves (our character, integrity, love for ourselves, etc.), and if we look to serve others more. Good stuff that I needed reminders about for sure. “Send Coach John a message”I found a fantastic and simple reminder from Jim Rohn Official (@OfficialJimRohn) where this truth is shared with us.  "You don't have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great." — Jim Rohn “Stop waiting. Start now!”  Yes, it is simple, but for many it's not easy to do. Why? Life gets in the way. Excuses take front and center in our lives. For me, I need to grasp onto the truth that the reason why things I want to happen, have not happened - are all on my shoulders.  I cannot blame others. It's the person in the mirror for sure. He and I need to have a conversation and then, what is one small step I can take towards getting things going! Then again and again and again.  One small step at a time, repeated over and over again will make a difference!! **

The Organized Coach - Productivity, Business Systems, Time Management, ADHD, Routines, Life Coach, Entrepreneur

All links mentioned in the post can be found here: https://simplysquaredaway.com/180 Words matter. Have you ever felt like you "blew it" because you missed a few days of your routine? Maybe your house got messy again. You stopped exercising. Your planner hasn't been opened in weeks. Your business routines slipped, or your quiet time in the morning has been inconsistent. What if you didn't need to restart? What if you simply needed to resume? In this episode, Tracy shares a mindset shift that can completely change the way you think about consistency. Inspired by an article from The Optimized Pastor ("Don't Restart, Do This Instead"), shared by a former client, Jason,  she explains why the word resume is far more empowering than restart. You'll learn 10 practical strategies to help you return to the habits and routines that matter—without guilt, shame, or waiting for the "perfect" time. If you've ever felt like you've fallen behind, this episode is your reminder that organized people aren't people who never get off track. They're people who know how to resume...over and over. In This Episode, You'll Learn: Why "resume" is a more powerful word than "restart" How waiting for Monday, January, or the perfect moment keeps you stuck The role shame plays in keeping you from moving forward How to build an organized identity through evidence instead of perfection Why reconnecting with your "why" makes consistency easier How curiosity can replace guilt after you've "fallen off track" Key Takeaway Consistency isn't about never stopping. It's about shortening the amount of time between when you stop and when you resume. The people who seem the most consistent aren't perfect; they've simply become really good at coming back.

In this chapter, Matt leaves his old home of Manchester behind, with all his worldly possessions in his pickup. He finds out fairly quickly that his meager 401k cash-out will not get him much, if anything. He follows a tip to a widow living near Mount Moosilaukee who might have some acres to sell. Nyomi is 15 days into her 30 Hard challenge, and tonight she gets REAL about what discipline actually means. On Day 13, her body shut down. She had a choice: restart at Day 1 or repeat Day 14 and continue. She chose to honor the work she'd already done and keep moving forward. This episode explores the difference between perfectionism and REAL discipline - it's not about being perfect, it's about being RESILIENT. It's about continuing when you fall, not erasing your progress.Nyomi shares the powerful story of a man who walked from Philadelphia to Los Angeles to raise money for a school, got hit by a car during the journey, and kept going. That's what real discipline looks like.If you've ever thought about restarting instead of continuing, if you've been knocked down and wondered if it's worth getting back up, if you're learning what real discipline means - this episode is for you.KEY TOPICS & MOMENTS:✓ 15 days into 30 Hard challenge✓ Day 13 body shutdown (post-explant surgery healing journey)✓ The choice: restart at Day 1 or repeat Day 14✓ Nyomi chose to CONTINUE and honor the 13 days of work✓ What she did on Day 14 (pull exercises, eating right, continuing)✓ Day 15 moving forward✓ The Philadelphia to Los Angeles walker (100-day goal, got hit by car, kept going)✓ Discipline vs. Perfectionism✓ Resilience as the core of real discipline✓ Honoring your progress (not erasing it)✓ Getting up where you fall✓ The importance of "your why"✓ Not being afraid to work hard to find out how great you can be✓ Morning rituals (shower, altar, prayer, meditation, journaling)✓ Understanding that things happen (unforeseen circumstances)✓ Continuing forward vs. starting completely over✓ The quote: "Don't be afraid to work hard enough to find out how great you can really be"✓ Community wisdom (callers shared their experiences with starting/stopping)✓ Self-love isn't about perfection✓ Healing journey awareness✓ Discipline in real life (when podcasts interrupt morning rituals, etc.)THE CORE MESSAGE:"Discipline is so sexy, but not because it's perfect, but because it's RESILIENT.Because it continues.
