We spoke to a few people who don't think voting is worth their time. Some of you might even relate to what they had to say because they have valid concerns:Caller 1: I'm honestly not really bought in. I feel that neither the Republican or Democractic parties resonate with my morals or fully exemplify what I want in the world. And smaller parities will never get enough votes to win, so what's the point? Caller 2: My majority of voters in my state don't share the same political views as me. So what's the point of me voting if their side always wins? Caller 3: How can one vote out of a million votes make any type of difference? The truth is that the laws and policies we vote on affect our daily lives, workplaces, and communities whether we like it or not. But that can sometimes be hard to see when we don't have all the information. And not having the information ISN'T anyone's fault. The government and how it works is complicated—but it doesn't have to be. The systems we have now are the ones American citizens just like you put into place throughout our country's history by voting. So, if you want to find out how you can use voting to create the country you want to live in, tune in to S1E2 to learn more about the voting systems we have in place and possible alternatives. And we break down everything we covered into social media graphics that make it easy to understand (and share). Download them at nocreamnosugar.org:Find out more about the voting system we use now: First-Past-The-Post votingLearn about a possible alternative to FPTP voting: Rank-Choice VotingUnderstand the reasons you should vote (even if you don't want to)See where presidential candidates can get public funding (made possible by our tax dollars) Follow us on Instagram @americandreamoncaffeineHave questions about our government or its systems, laws, or policies? Star Trek Discovery Podcast, featuring Picard and Lower Decks
Star Trek: Lower Decks – Season 1 Episode 1 – Second Contact We’re back with a new podcast, sort of. Rather than start a new podcast feed, we are putting the Lower Decks episodes on both the Picard and Discovery feeds. That way, you won’t have to start subscribing to a new podcast feed. However, we are calling these episodes The Star Trek Lower Decks Podcast. For the first episode, we are covering Season 1, Episode 1, titled Second Contact. About Lower Decks… Welcome Kyle!!! You may remember from our episode covering the two animated Short Treks, Ruthie is not a fan of animation, so she’s sitting out the episodes that cover Star Trek: Lower Decks. Kyle McAdams, who’s been hosting Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through since Season 3, will be taking over co-hosting duties for Lower Decks. Kyle’s been a Star Trek fan We may need to occasionally bring on guests, especially near the end of the season and the beginning of Discovery. Ruthie will return for Discovery Season 3! Don’t worry! Ruthie is not leaving us. She’s just not into animated shows. She will be returning to The Star Trek Discovery Podcast for Season 3 Episode 1 when it airs October 15th. You may go through some Ruthie withdrawal until then, but it’s not that long to wait, though it might seem like it with Coronavirus still plaguing us. Who did the music for Lower Decks? Orions in Starfleet? Mahan or McMahan? I mentioned I’d probably put in the blog post who did the music and theme for Lower Decks. The answer is Chris Westlake. He also worked with Mike McMahan on Mike’s other show, Solar Opposites, which airs on Hulu. We did see an Orion in the 2009 Star Trek film at Starfleet Academy (I’m not sure if she was studying there or not), but that’s in the Kelvin Timeline. I neglected to mention that Orion women are supposed to put out very potent pheromones that males of many humanoid species are susceptible to, but Ensign Tendi didn’t seem to have this issue. Speaking of Mike McMahan, I did something I don’t do too often. Every time I said his name in this episode, I pronounced it wrong. I believe it’s pronounced Mick-mah-hann. It also might be pronounced like Ed McMahon or Jim McMahon. I’ll confirm how to pronounce this name next week. Hey guys, S2 E2, yayyyy! This week, I am so excited to introduce you to three super cool and motivated girl bosses. We are revealing the secret starting your own side hustle and small business. If you’ve ever thought about pursuing a passion project, this episode is for you. First we have @SamanthaFeher. You all probably recognize her name, because she was actually on S1 E2 of Girl Gaze! Now she’s back and ready to kill it on S2 E2. Sam is an influencer, an editorial assistant at Cosmo, runs a cute online boutique called Brunch Club and does consulting on the side. Next up is Celine Rahman, who is a costumer at the production company American High. She even worked on that new Hulu movie with Pete Davidson, “Big Time Adolescence.” On top of her full time job, Celine is the creator of her “90s glitter candy shop,” otherwise known as @CupOfRahman. Our third guest is Natalie Acopian. At the end of her junior year in college, Natalie started an Instagram account in addition to her personal, because she wanted to create a platform where she could post photos with her graphic design flair; all for fun! Her aesthetic resonated with a specific niche, and it took off. She recently gave her visual brand, @ColorfulNatalie, a shoppable aspect. Sam breaks down the branding behind her boutique “Brunch Club" (10:25). Developing a visual aesthetic is just as important as fleshing out a brand voice. Natalie reveals how she brought her vision to life on Instagram and her website. (15:45). Pinterest is still a thing! We chat about how you can use this platform to not only gain inspiration, but also to grow your business and following. (17:40). Find out how Celine designs and illustrates her 90s-glitter-candy-shop-inspired products with resin (19:35). Sam and Natalie walk us through the careful curation of their online clothing collections, and Sam tells us how she sold out of a new collection in 15 minutes (24:40). These three girl bosses share the biggest things they’ve learned since starting their small businesses. (33:00). Natalie spills the tea about that time she received a DM from a hater, and how she’s moved on (41:15). Meanwhile, Celine gets real about someone copying her designs (43:15). We close this candid conversation with one last piece of advice from each of the panelists on what it takes to successfully start your own side hustle or small business: Believe in yourself, adopt a data driven approach, and just do it (48:25). Welcome to our Rebinge of Star Trek DS9: Past Prologue This is our second full episode on our Rebinge DS9 journey! Someone from Kira’s past has appeared seeking amnesty on DS9 in Past Prologue. But as usual, he’s up to no good — no one just drops by this place for a simple visit. Why would they? We continue to touch on some heavy themes! Here Kira is struggling with her loyalties to the freedom fighting cause of her past and the politics of her present. She tries to explain the complications away with Sisko, but he’s having none of it. He doesn’t want to be harboring terrorists and he wants Kira to pick a side. Meanwhile, the Cardassians are sticking their rubbery noses into everything again. Oh yeah, and we’ve got some Klingons on the station ready to cause trouble. The Duras sisters have arrived and are making deals on all sides. Odo wants to throw them in the brig, of course, because he is his usual cantankerous self. This is a Kira episode We get a lot of Kira in episode 2. She waffles between being the angry woman we met in episode 1 and the good soldier she wants to be for her people. She’s finding this a difficult line to walk. But one thing for sure, she is killing it with that new haircut. We dig it. Kira is questioning her own motivations in Past Prologue. What’s this rebinge thing? It’s a re-watch of a thing you’ve already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Listen to our intro episode if you want to know a little more about us. And kick off the whole thing with our rebinge of the pilot episode Emissary. Next time… We dig into Season 1 Episode 3 of DS9: A Man Alone. In what was originally scheduled as the season 2 finale (but is explained at the beginning of this episode), Jordan ropes in his sister Paige (from S1 E2 and S2 E10) and cousins Lily (S1 E4) and Olivia (S1 E5) to talk about their sibling relationships. Together they discuss what they think of their siblings, how their relationship dynamic has changed over the years, and their funniest stories about their sibling. Also, there are amazing tangents including, but not limited to, an almost R-rated discussion on the American Girl Doll puberty book, Jordan's aversion to fruits and vegetables, and anger issues. Later, they resurrect the game 15 Shades of Jordan, which is now 10 Shades of Jordan. Please leave a review so other people know that Geisler's Guidelines is well worth a listen. (This is the first part of a multi-part mini-series [episodes TBC] called Chaos). In this first full-length episode of Into the Pray - Breaching the Chaos of the Church, Nick and Mairi Franks jump more deeply into the chaos that is the Church - the Body of Christ on the earth. Why do we consider the "church" to be chaotic? What is it more precisely that needs to be breached? What are the walls that need to be demolished? Why can't we see the wood for the trees? Drop your comments below and please subscribe and review this podcast on Apple/Android platforms.Next week in S1/E2, we'll continue to get more specific about the chaos that we believe needs to be breached in order for us all to grow into what it really means to be a genuine disciple of Yeshua, a vital member of the true ekklesia. One of our values, at all costs, is to avoid cliche. We want to be as clear and as specific and as precise as possible. We can't stand generic language and generalisations that don't help anyone. We also want to be real and honest and transparent about the things that we have zero doubt are the things that we're on the planet to call forth.Guys, we are on the cusp of eternity and the world will not be ready for the return of Christ until the ekklesia are ready for the return of Christ. Maranatha... we pray with the Spirit, "Come, Lord Jesus"Episode notes: - You can buy ebook and paperback versions of Body Zero here: http://bodyzerobook.com- The correct verse that Nick mentions from John's gospel around 33:19 is John 12:24
The pressure to be everything to everyone has left many of us having nothing for ourselves. In this episode, I am joined by my dear friend Mikila J. Thompson as we discuss the breakdowns that led us to our breakthroughs. It's time to challenge the flawless definition of 'perfect' and replace it with a woman who is flawed yet mature, unfinished yet whole, completely human and so perfectly loved by her Creator. That woman? She's perfect! S1E2

The only thing that separates us from a good and holy God is sin. We have all sinned and fallen short of God's glory, and there is only one way to make things right with God; the finished work of Jesus on the cross. We must cling to the cross of Christ as our only hope of salvation. We must repent of our sins and be born again. Otherwise, there is hell to pay. First Draft Episode #201: Gaby Dunn Gaby Dunn, co-author of the New York Times bestselling young adult novel I Hate Everyone But You with her writing partner Alison Raskin. The sequel, Please Send Help, is out now! Gaby and Alison also host the Just Between Us podcast and YouTube channel. Gaby is also the host of the podcast Bad With Money and author of the book Bad with Money: The Imperfect Art of Getting Your Financial Sh*t Together. LINKS AND TOPICS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE Listen to Gaby’s first episode of First Draft with her co-author and comedy partner Allison Raskin here Gaby has a money book that came out in January called Bad With Money based on her podcast of the same name. Started the Bad With Money podcast because she is not a money expert at all and wanted to ask basic finance questions like “What is a stock?” or “What is a 401k?”. CNBC is a business and finance-based TV network (which was the launching pad for Suze Orman, financial adviser and TV host, author of Women and Money and The Road to Wealth, who has appeared on Gaby’s show) Gerrymandering Case in which hard drives of a deceased Republican strategist were discovered, and he was understood to be encouraging a top census official to add a citizenship question to the survey for political gain. Gaby Dunn and Allison Raskin’s YouTube Channel “Just Between Us”, which is an LA based odd-couple comedy channel. It has now shifted over to a podcast format. Gaby went to school for journalism and when she had to interview people and ask a tough question she would give a story of her own first so people would feel like they were talking to a real person. Gaby relates it to the 30 Rock bit were Tracy Morgan feels like he’s lost touch with his audience. In her recent novel, Gaby talks about It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (TV show) and feeling like the character Charlie during the “There is no Carol in HR!” scene. Gaby and Allison Raskin sold their first novel, I Hate Everyone But You, in a bidding war between Macmillan and Simon and Schuster. Simon and Schuster won the bid but Gaby signed a deal for a solo book with Macmillan. Broke Millennial and Broke Millennial Takes on Investing by Erin Lowry Gaby talked with Suze Orman off the record and agreed to disagree on the importance of systemic issues. Full Frontal with Samantha Bee (TV show) Please Send Help takes place four years after I Hate Everyone But You to match the growth of the readers and becomes a cross over between the Young Adult and Adult Genre. Bury The Lede is a Crime Thriller and Gaby’s first graphic novel. She wanted to move away from comedy and towards crime procedurals. Gaby pitches Bury The Lede as Killing Eve (TV show) or Lesbian Hannibal (TV show). Gaby draws on her experience as an intern at The Boston Globe where she would show up to work, get a police radio, and drive around looking for stories. Gaby worked at the Boston Globe while the case of Clark Rockefeller was unfolding. Clark Rockefeller was the pseudonym of Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, convicted murderer and imposter who posed as an American socialite, and was eventually arrested for kidnapping his daughter following a contentious divorce. “The Man in the Rockefeller Suit,” written by Mark Seal for Vanity Fair, is a great piece on the case, and the movie Gaby mentions is Who is Clark Rockefeller? starring Eric McCormack of Will & Grace. Boom Studios is publishing her graphic novel. They have also published Lumberjanes, Heavy Vinyl, and The Avant-guards. Gaby’s editor is Dafna Pleban. Claire Roe and Miquel Muerto are the artists for Bury The Lede. Emily Heller (Stand-up Comedian), Jon Gabrus (Actor and Comedian), and Dave Holmes (Author, TV host, and critic) are a few of the guests that have been on the Just Between Us podcast. S1E2 of Bad With Money features Gaby’s session with Brad Klontz, financial therapist and author of Mind over Money: Overcoming the Money Disorders That Threaten Our Financial Health SUBSCRIBE TO FIRST DRAFT WITH SARAH ENNI Every Tuesday, I speak to storytellers like Veronica Roth, author of Divergent; Linda Holmes, author and host of NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast; Jonny Sun, internet superstar, illustrator of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Gmorning, Gnight! and author and illustrator of Everyone’s an Aliebn When Ur a Aliebn Too; Michael Dante DiMartino, co-creator of Avatar: The Last Airbender; John August, screenwriter of Big Fish, Charlie’s Angels, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; or Rhett Miller, musician and frontman for The Old 97s. Most crimes have telling crime scenes. Law enforcement collects evidence and piece together what may have happened. They bring in suspects, question them, gather more evidence, usually in the form of DNA, and they apprehend the culprit(s). But then there is the odd crazy crime scene. The deaths of Kathleen Peterson (the Staircase) and Rebecca Zahau are two prime examples of some bat shit crazy crime scenes.

Master Esthetician Instructor Kristin Groop and Dr. Larry Groop use peer-reviewed research to investigate and discuss the latest trends, equipment, and products in medical esthetics. Evidence Based Esthetics was developed to help sort out science fact from science fiction as Kris and Larry interview leaders in the cosmetic dermatology field, perform live treatments with the latest products and equipment and try to keep the science fun and entertaining. Show segments include “Reality Check”, “Ultimate Esthetics Challenge”, “Esthetics Mythbusters”, and “You Blinded Me with Skin Science” among others. Both hosts irreverently poke fun at extravagant beauty claims as well as themselves. The Evidence Based Esthetician refuses directly sell, recommend, or otherwise, promote any product or service and the hosts make a point to inform the readers when they are giving their opinions rather than what the peer-reviewed research shows. Skincare professionals looking for a no nonsense approach to medical esthetic products, procedures and equipment will be sure to enjoy the light-hearted romp through the latest hot topics facing the beauty industry. In S1 E2, Kris and Larry dive into Microdermabrasion- while not trying to be too abrasive (lol). The mechanism of action, the indications and contra indications are examined and several research articles are examined. In the second half of S1 E2, we look at multilevel marketing of skincare products-the good, the bad, and the ugly. Nerium® and Rodan-Fields® are discussed from a product, business, and industry perspective.

S1:E2 -- The Silent Microphone All any content creator needs to do to build a podcast worthy of an audience is decide to put their voice in the world. If you can dream up a blog post, you can dream up a podcast When I first started my podcasting journey, I did everything wrong. I thought I could just speak into any microphone, record my voice in any recording software, and publish it. Instead, I had to learn how to podcast the correct way, the same way I had to learn to write blog posts the correct way. Making mistakes is part of the process. Fortunately, I learned early on that podcasting is still only a tool. Like any tool, learning how to use it well can be taught. You CAN learn to do this! I can show you what I think are the good guidelines and solid processes that will make your podcast worthy of your audience. But you are the only one that can make your podcast the best it can be. And leave your blog in the atomic dustbin of useless media where it belongs. About the Show Podfader, hosted by veteran podcaster Kyle Bondo, focuses on the challenges of keeping your podcast going and the drive we all have has creators to keep our podcasts going with new and interesting content. If you’re a struggling podcaster, Podfader will be your sanctuary to get you through the messy middle of any podcasting strategy. Stop fading and start casting! Star Trek Discovery Podcast, featuring Picard and Lower Decks
Talking Through Battle at the Binary Stars On Sunday, September 24th, CBS All Access made available S1E2 of Star Trek: Discovery, titled Battle at the Binary Stars, immediately following the airing of S1E1, The Vulcan Hello, on CBS. Since many people in the U.S. didn’t have CBS All Access and still don’t, they want to know: Should they watch this show? Should they pay for CBS All Access? Should they wait, and binge it, or buy it now and watch week to week? We answer those questions, at least most of them, in this week’s episode. In this episode of The Star Trek Discovery Podcast, we analyze Season 1 Episode 2 of Star Trek: Discovery, titled “Battle at the Binary Stars”. We also discuss, after the first two episodes, our experiences so far with CBS All Access, and give our advice about watching each week, waiting and binging or not watching at all. Read More… Is Star Trek: Discovery Star Trek? Star Trek: Discovery is not your father’s Star Trek. You know the uniforms and the Klingons look different, but it goes beyond that. The producers have changed a lot more, added a few new wrinkles to some things, and created new things within the universe. But, is it still Star Trek? I believe the answer is yes. If you can accept some changes to what you’re used to, then this Star Trek is for you. If you can’t accept that their uniforms are anything except what you see in “The Cage”, and that the bridge doesn’t look like a classic bridge a la NCC-1701, then move on. Stick to Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. At least they still act like Klingons! Though the producers have been coy about it, I believe that Star Trek: Discovery is a partial re-imagining of the franchise. They’ve kept story canon, for the most part, but they have changed the look and much of the technology. They could have saved themselves a lot of grief by announcing this as a re-imagining of the franchise, or by not changing as much as they did. I’m still scratching my head as to why they felt it necessary to change the look of the Klingons so much, but it is what it is. I hope it may be explained, but the most important part is that they still act like Klingons, and if they had changed their behavior, I would be objecting a lot more than I am now. So, should you watch Star Trek: Discovery? We believe the answer is yes. We think it will be a great season, and great TV, but different than the Trek we grew up with. Should you get CBS All Access? We think so… but whether you wait and binge, or watch weekly, that’s up to you; whether you don’t want to be spoiled online because you haven’t seen it, want to share with the online community as it airs, or you’re more than comfortable binging it and watching later is a major determining factor. However, if you’re waiting for it to come onto another streaming provider in the US, like Netflix, think again. CBS is building their whole streaming service around the Star Trek franchise. This is going to become more commonplace, not less, with other content providers. It’s unlikely, though not impossible, that Discovery will be available on Netflix in the future. If that happens, it won’t be soon. What about the episode itself? SPOILER ALERT! This episode ends with a few major twists. Captain Phillipa Georgiou and T’Kuvma are dead, the Shenzhou has been destroyed, the Federation and the Klingon Empire are at war, and Burnham has been court-martialed and received a life sentence. We’ve not even seen the USS Discovery yet! “The Vulcan Hello” and “Battle at the Binary Stars” play together like a 2-hour TV movie prequel. It’s like the rest of the season will

Darren Aronofsky's first feature and still one of his weirdest, PI (or "π") is a B&W-shimmering orb providing a view to several convergent trends of the late 1990s: young independent directors scraping together a mainstream career; the use of obscure math and especially chaos theory in popular art; and the low-level burbling ambient electronic music of artists with names like Orbital and, well, The Orb. In this week's episode, Renan and Bill consider all of the above, and with it: pop mysticism and numerology, the whiter whites and blacker blacks of reversal film, the long arm of Gilliam and Serling's influence, and how PI compares to another ETV favorite, PRIMER (S1E2). In the second episode of 11.22.63 Jake travels to Holden Kentucky where he runs into a pants-less Harry Dunning. Harry is consistently bothered by a set of bullies which reminds us much of the bullies from Stephen Kings IT. Holden Kentucky also resembles the town of Derry Maine from IT, in that the color and brightness and sensibility of the towns folk just seems off. Will Jake successfully save Harry and the rest of the Dunnings? Will Bill Turcotte lose his job over all those free drinks? And will we see a guest appearance from any of the MASH actors this season since Jake apparently served with them? All this and more on this week's 11.22.63 A Look Back for The Kill Floor.
