A Breakthrough in Exosome Skincare ft. Madhavi Gavini of Droplette

Skincare Anarchy

Send a textIn this special episode of Skin Anarchy, Dr. Ekta Yadav welcomes back Madhavi Gavini, founder of Droplette—one of the earliest science-forward brands featured on the show. What once felt like a radically different approach to skincare technology now feels increasingly relevant as the industry shifts toward biologics, regenerative ingredients, and delivery science. The conversation revisits Droplette's origins and explores why effective delivery may be the missing piece in modern skincare innovation.Gavini's journey into skincare began far outside the beauty industry. With a background in pharmaceutical development, she spent years designing therapies for pediatric diseases, where she encountered one of medicine's most persistent challenges: delivery. Even when researchers identify the therapeutic molecule that could help treat a condition, getting that molecule into the correct layer of skin is often the hardest part. That realization became the foundation of Droplette's technology, originally developed alongside MIT-affiliated researchers to enable large molecules to reach skin tissue without needles or barrier injury. The Droplette device generates high-velocity, submicron droplets capable of moving ingredients past the stratum corneum—the skin's protective outer barrier—allowing molecules far larger than traditional topical ingredients to access viable layers of skin. The implications extend beyond cosmetics, with ongoing collaborations exploring delivery for antibiotics, gene therapies, and other advanced biologics. The episode also dives into the science behind exosomes—one of the most talked-about yet misunderstood areas in regenerative skincare. Gavini explains what exosomes are, why sourcing and stability matter, and why many topical exosome products degrade or fail to penetrate the skin barrier. Double Board-Certified Dermatologist, Dr. Dan Belkin, also shares his clinical perspective on how exosomes are currently used in dermatology and why reliable sourcing, cold-chain handling, and effective delivery systems are essential for maintaining biological activity.Listen to the full episode to hear Madhavi Gavini explain how Droplette is bringing pharmaceutical-grade delivery science into the future of regenerative skincare.Use discount code 'ANARCHY' to get the Exosome Starter Set on subscription for just $349SHOP DROPLETTE1.Quek BL, Srinivas RL, Gavini MP. In this episode, Dr. Fiona Lovely sits down with Dr. Mireille Vega—the chemist and former biotech executive known to many as Dr. Mimi V—for a conversation that completely reframes how we think about our skin. Moving far beyond typical beauty chatter, Dr. Mimi shares her unique philosophy of Skin Science 3.0, a paradigm that treats the skin not as a simple surface to be treated, but as a dynamic, living system. Drawing on her extensive background in immunology and oncology, as well as profound personal experiences, Dr. Mimi V explains why the standard, symptom-focused approach to skincare is often working against us. She guides listeners through the intricate world of the skin's ecosystem, detailing the critical interplay between the skin barrier and its microbiome. Listeners will learn the vital difference between simply treating a breakout and truly supporting the skin's function to build lasting resilience. Dr. Mimi V offers a masterclass in listening to what our skin is telling us, emphasizing that a "squeaky clean" feeling is often a sign of distress. This episode is a powerful invitation to shift from a mindset of correction to one of genuine support, empowering women to trust their skin's innate intelligence. A true power duo: Blair Lancer, CMO, and Daniela De Los Santos, Global Education Director from Lancer Skincare. Together they share what it takes to grow a family-founded, dermatologist-led brand in a world where trust is everything, education cuts through noise, and community is built one conversation at a time.Daniela brings the brand to life on QVC, where she treats the camera like a one-on-one appointment, translating ingredients, claims, and routines in a way that feels like chatting with your mom or best friend. She also reflects on her own path, from dreaming of becoming a lawyer to earning her esthetics license, and why that “first step” opened doors she never could have predicted. Her message is clear: the esthetics career path is bigger than the treatment room, and experts are more valuable than ever in a skincare landscape crowded with misinformation.Blair grew up around the brand and originally envisioned a future in fashion, even studying it at NYU. But a pivot into beauty led her back to the family business and into leadership. She opens up about becoming a face of the brand on social media over the last year, learning to embrace visibility, and even finding value in the occasional critical comment. For Blair, community building is not a buzzword. It is the rare opportunity to speak directly to the customer and earn trust in real time. The heart of their “power duo” dynamic is simple: trust, transparency, and the willingness to push each other to execute. They talk candidly about leadership without micromanagement, the fine line between managing and hovering, and how feedback and accountability can be motivating when it comes from real expertise and mutual respect. They also share how they manage stress in demanding roles, from quiet resets and solo walks to staying grounded by asking better questions instead of catastrophizing. The episode closes with a fun skin-science game, “Hyperpigmentation or Hype,” and a product spotlight on Lancer's Gravity Dark Spot Correcting Serum, diving into what really causes discoloration and why consistency matters more than price tags when it comes to results. In this Masterclass episode of Skin Anarchy, Dr. Ekta Yadav welcomes back Dr. Barbara Paldus of Codex Labs for a compelling deep dive into integrative dermatology—a next-generation approach that treats skin not as a surface problem, but as a window into whole-body health. This conversation reframes chronic skin issues through a systems lens, exploring how the gut, brain, immune system, hormones, and microbiomes continuously communicate—and how disruptions in one system can ripple outward to the skin. Instead of asking “How do we suppress this flare?” Dr. Paldus challenges us to ask “Why is the skin signaling distress in the first place?”You'll hear how stress, inflammation, microbiome imbalance, and intestinal permeability can quietly drive conditions like acne, eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis—often long before symptoms appear on the skin. The episode unpacks why conventional symptom-focused treatments sometimes fail to deliver lasting relief, and how root-cause care can create more durable, meaningful outcomes.Dr. Paldus also introduces a personalized teledermatology model that leverages biological data, at-home testing, and longitudinal tracking to design interventions tailored to each patient's unique internal landscape. From hormone-driven breakouts to chronic eczema and immune dysregulation, the discussion highlights how precision diagnostics can guide smarter, more sustainable treatment strategies. At its core, this episode invites listeners to rethink skincare entirely—not as a cycle of stronger products or short-term fixes, but as a long-term investment in systemic resilience. If you're curious about the future of dermatology, microbiome science, and why healing skin often starts far beyond the mirror, this episode offers a powerful preview of what root-cause, science-led care can look like.Listen to the full episode to explore how integrative dermatology is reshaping chronic skin care from the inside out.SHOP CODEXDon't forget to subscribe to Skin Anarchy on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or your preferred platform.Reach out to us through email with any questions.Sign up for our newsletter!Shop all our episodes and products mentioned through our ShopMy Shelf!*This is a sponsored collaborationSupport the show

"When you take care of your health, you improve your skin to the level that you need less makeup because your skin is already showing up so much healthier." - Dr. Alessandra Zonari What if I told you that the secret to reversing skin aging isn't about slathering on more products, but about targeting the "zombie cells" that are literally aging you from within? Dr. Alessandra Zonari, a PhD stem cell biologist, just blew my mind with her breakthrough research on cellular senescence - those damaged cells that refuse to die and instead pump out inflammation that breaks down our collagen and thins our skin barrier. As women, we hit a biological cliff at 30, and by our 40s and beyond, these senescent cells are accumulating faster than our bodies can clear them out. But here's the game-changer: we can actually reverse this process, not just slow it down. Through targeted skincare that eliminates these zombie cells, combined with smart lifestyle choices around sleep, exercise, and nutrition, we can turn back our biological clock. This isn't about looking younger for vanity - it's about having healthier, more resilient skin that protects our entire body from systemic inflammation and supports our longevity. Why cellular senescence (zombie cells) is the hidden root cause of skin aging that most skincare completely ignores The biological "cliff" that happens at 30 and how it accelerates skin aging in your 40s and beyond How to reverse skin aging at the cellular level, not just mask the symptoms Why your skincare routine is incomplete without targeting senescent cells The surprising connection between scalp health and hair thinning as we age How sleep, exercise, and nutrition create exponential results when combined with the right topical treatments The truth about what really works for aging skin vs. marketing claims that don't address root causes Why taking care of your skin barrier impacts your entire body's inflammation levels Love the Podcast? Chicago plastic surgeon Dr. Julius Few joins Dr. Bass to discuss why skin care is not a one size fits all industry and debunk common myths surrounding skin care. Good skin care is a necessary adjunct to plastic surgery and beauty as a whole. There are thousands of product options out there, but it's about finding a routine that's easy to follow and works for you.  According to Dr. Few, the secret to great skin is good cleansing (but not over-cleansing), good hydration with protection of that hydration, and something that facilitates cell turnover and elimination—not stripping, but enhancing that process. Back in the 1970's and 1980's, products and treatments were universally used on people of all skin colors and types, sometimes doing more harm than good. Choosing the wrong topical agent for skin care can lead to significant inflammation, or in the worst case scenario, a reactive dermatitis. Today, we have options developed for a wide range of skin types.  With the goal of developing medical grade options for people with hyperpigmentation, dyspigmentation, and dyschromia that does not require physician oversight, Dr. Few created a skin care line consisting of topical ingredients in a melanocyte friendly solution. Drs. Bass and Few discuss: Why you should consider adjusting your skin care routine based on the season Why you should avoid washing your face with cleanser too often if you have dry skin How to adjust your routine as your skin ages When the best time of day is to apply restorative treatments How long it takes to judge whether a skin care regimen works for you   About Dr. Julius Few Dr. Julius Few is a Chicago plastic surgeon with a very busy and successful practice, The Few Institute. He is a clinical professor of plastic surgery at the University of Chicago, as well as a health science clinician at Northwestern University. We're welcoming Alisa Lask, the CEO of Rion Aesthetics, to the show today. She has over two decades of experience in this industry, spanning across pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and cosmeceuticals. Our focus in today's discussion is Rion's revolutionary ( plated ) Skin Science products. You'll know by listening to this episode that the future is here. When she ventured into skincare, Alisa thought exosomes were useless because of her science-based background. After a doctor that she trusts really recommended them, Alisa used them for 5 months and realized that the science behind them is amazing. After explaining what exactly exosomes are, Alisa takes us through the different ( plated ) Skin Science offerings from Rion. Some of the most common feedback about ( plated ) is appreciation of the source material of the product being so transparent. Also, providers are saying that by using this product, they're able to simplify skincare routines. Exosomes are so extremely small, and very sophisticated machinery is needed to extract them properly for use on your skin. Rion's products do not contain anything else, such as DNA, which is quite mind-blowing given their size. There are a lot more exciting things coming from Rion, and Alisa provides a timeline of what we can expect. Still, they're focused on not getting too big too fast. Their long-term goal is to help advance aesthetics, especially in the regenerative space. Stimulating tissue to grow collagen and elastin on its own is so much more effective than using filler.   www.rionaesthetics.com www.platedskinscience.com www.beautyculturespa.com @beautyculture.medspa
