Gold & Copper Boom, Government Debt Crisis, and Corruption Exposed - John Rubino #6262

Kerry Lutz and John Rubino discussed the recent significant price increases in gold and copper, both reaching all-time highs. John highlighted that gold has outperformed the S&P 500 over the past two decades, while copper's importance is growing due to its role in energy transitions and AI technologies. They noted favorable conditions for mining stocks, which are benefiting from rising metal prices and stable costs. Sandstorm Gold was mentioned as a company positioned for growth, focusing on reducing debt and increasing cash flow from higher sales. The conversation also included a cautionary note about the necessity for major mining companies to pursue mergers and acquisitions to address depleting reserves. The performance of gold, silver, the S&P 500, and tech stocks since 1999 was analyzed, revealing that gold yielded about 9% compared to the S&P 500's 5%. John explained that the liquidity injected into the economy has inflated asset prices, suggesting that some overvalued assets may be due for a crash. Historical trends indicate that tech stocks, after a period of high returns, often experience significant declines. Lutz agreed, emphasizing that even high-quality tech stocks can drop dramatically when overvalued, highlighting the need for caution among investors. John expressed optimism about gold and silver's future performance, advising investors to maintain a diverse portfolio in the mining sector and to consider cashing out during acquisitions. Lutz pointed out the mixed success of major mining companies with acquisitions, often leading to overpayment for assets. The discussion also touched on the broader economic landscape, including unprecedented government debt and spending patterns, with concerns about how this liquidity could impact financial assets, potentially leading to inflation or boosting speculative stocks. The conversation shifted to the pervasive fraud in government funding, particularly through NGOs, and the financial benefits for individuals in the political and expert classes. They critiqued the cycle of dependency and corruption that arises from large sums of money being funneled back into political campaigns. Additionally, they proposed the creation of a museum dedicated to corruption in Washington, D.C., envisioning it as both a serious proposal and a satirical commentary on political issues. The discussion concluded with a focus on the lucrative potential of selling citizenship cards, reflecting a shift in the perception of citizenship as a valuable brand. Interview with Nolan Watson, President & CEO of Sandstorm Gold RoyaltiesOur previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/sandstorm-gold-royalties-tsxssl-positioned-for-30-production-growth-debt-reduction-3933Recording date: 17th September 2024Sandstorm Gold Royalties, the sixth-largest gold streaming and royalty company globally, is positioning itself for significant growth in the coming years. Led by President and CEO Nolan Watson, the company has embarked on a strategic path that could potentially double its production and substantially increase its cash flow over the next five years. Two years ago, Sandstorm made a bold move by acquiring over $1 billion worth of assets, financed through debt. While this initially raised concerns among investors, especially in a rising interest rate environment, the strategy appears to be paying off. Watson explains, "I'm a big believer that you need to buy things when nobody cares about growth and then when all of your shareholders are banging on the door for growth, that's when you should not be buying things because that's when they're very expensive."The company's growth projection is anchored by five (among over 230 other) projects:Greenstone (Equinox Gold)Platreef (Ivanhoe Mines)Robertson (Barrick Gold)Hod Maden (SSR Mining)MARA (Glencore)These projects alone are expected to drive Sandstorm's production from approximately 75,000 royalty ounces today to potentially over 150,000 royalty ounces within five years. Importantly, this growth projection does not include numerous other development projects in Sandstorm's portfolio, providing potential upside beyond the company's current guidance.Financially, Sandstorm is focused on improving its balance sheet. The company expects to reduce its debt from $640 million to $350 million by the end of this year, with plans to eliminate it entirely within three years. Once the five key projects are operational, Watson projects that Sandstorm could generate nearly $300 million in annual free cash flow at current gold prices.Management's confidence in the company's prospects is evidenced by significant insider investment. Watson himself has borrowed $3 million to purchase additional Sandstorm shares, stating, "I'm convinced Sandstorm shares can double or triple."While the company currently offers a modest 1% dividend yield, the focus is on debt reduction and potential share buybacks once the balance sheet is strengthened. Watson emphasizes the company's commitment to maintaining or increasing the dividend. For investors, Sandstorm offers exposure to gold price upside without the operational risks typically associated with mining companies. The company's streaming and royalty model provides a diversified portfolio of assets operated by major mining companies, potentially reducing single-asset risk. The investment thesis for Sandstorm is supported by broader macroeconomic factors that could benefit gold, including economic uncertainty, monetary policy decisions, currency devaluation concerns, and gold's role in portfolio diversification. However, investors should still be aware of potential risks, including gold price sensitivity, project execution risks at partner operations, geopolitical risks in some jurisdictions, and the impact of interest rates on the sector. In conclusion, Sandstorm Gold Royalties presents an intriguing opportunity for investors seeking exposure to the gold sector. With a clear path to production growth, improving financial position, and strong management alignment, the company appears well-positioned to capitalize on its recent strategic moves. As always, investors should conduct their own due diligence and consider their risk tolerance when evaluating this investment opportunity.View Sandstorm Gold Royalties' company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/sandstorm-gold-royaltiesSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

David Awram, Sr. Executive Vice President, Co-Founder, and Director of Sandstorm Gold  (TSX: SSL) (NYSE: SAND), joins me for a review the key takeaways from Q1 2024 financials and operations.  We also got into many of the key royalty partner projects feeding into the larger growth profile over the next 5 years for this mid-tier precious metals royalty company.  Sandstorm Gold is diversified across 250 royalties, 40 producing assets, exploration optionality, different jurisdictions, and has a leading cost profile from producing royalty partners.    This is wide-ranging discussion that gets into the value proposition and key attributes of Sandstorm Gold within it's peer group of royalty companies.  We spend some time unpacking some of the key projects they hold royalties on that are partnered with senior mining companies as operators, that are well capitalized to have more exploration and development upside than the market is anticipating.  Some of the projects Dave outlined were the Houndé Project operated by Endeavour Mining, the Bonikro Project operated by Allied Gold, the Barry Project operated by Bonterra Resources (that is being combined with Osisko Mining's Windfall Project), and Caserones operated by Lundin Mining.   Next we got into some of the large development projects that are moving down the development pipeline and into production, as big contributors to future gold equivalent ounces and revenues.  We reviewed how Equinox's Greenstone Mine has just had first gold pour, as the 4th largest gold mine in Canada and a big win for Sandstorm and the Canadian mining sector at large. Next Dave highlighted a recent site visit to Ivanhoe Mining's Platreef Project in South Africa, and how construction is well underway to bring this mine into commercial production by next year. We then reviewed the cornerstone Hod Madden royalty asset in Turkey, and how the terms on this asset and conversion into a  gold stream have changed over time, including the sale of the 30% interest in the project to Horizon Copper Corp.  Lastly we wrap up with a look ahead to the Mara gold stream operated by Glencore, as an example of how a royalty purchase can change hands and become incredibly value-accretive.    If you have any questions for Dave regarding Sandstorm Gold, then please email me at Shad@kereport.com and we'll get them addressed, or covered in a future interview.   In full disclosure, Shad is a shareholder of Sandstorm Gold at the time of this recording.    Click here to follow along with the news from Sandstorm Gold.

We touch upon the ongoing permitting,  metallurgical work, and other derisking work the company is doing in the background, in addition to the exploration upside at both the Snake Pond and Blueberry Hill areas that could bring more shallow high-grade ounces into the front end of the mine plane and further improve the project economics.   Elaine also gives us her industry background along with profiling the experience of Omai Gold Mine's management team and board of directors.  Additionally, she breaks down their relationship with strategic shareholder Silvercorp Metals, and Sandstorm Gold, in addition to other key strategic institutional funds and high net worth shareholder. Kim Bergen, Vice President of Capital Markets for Sandstorm Gold (TSX: SSL) (NYSE: SAND), joins me for a comprehensive introduction to this mid-tier precious metals royalty company; diversified across 250 royalties, 40 producing assets, exploration optionality, different jurisdictions, and a leading cost profile from producing royalty partners.    This is wide-ranging discussion that gets into the value proposition and key attributes of Sandstorm Gold within it's peer group of royalty companies.  We spend some time unpacking key transformative acquisition in 2022 of both Nomad Royalty Company and BaseCore Metals Royalty Package (from Glencore), and how that extended the average mine life length in the Company's royalty portfolio, and brought in more senior operating partners and development-stage companies moving towards production in the next 2 years.  Additionally, Kim unpacked the key Hod Madden royalty asset, and how the terms on the gold stream have changed over time, including the sale of the 30% interest in the project to Horizon Copper Corp.   We touch upon the exploration upside across the portfolio with an annual average of 650,000 meters drilled on projects held by royalty partners from 2013 to 2022, and around 340,000 meters of drilling completed in 2022 on producing properties alone.   We also dig deeper into the different ways the company is diversified across operators, jurisdictions, and cost profiles.    Wrapping up Kim unpacks the backgrounds of some key members of the management team and board, the key stakeholders in Sandstorm Gold, the share structure, the initiative to pay down more debt and possibly buy back some shares due to the discount to Net Asset Value being seen in their valuation at present, and key catalysts for the next 12-24 months for investors to watch for.    If you have any questions for Kim regarding Sandstorm Gold, then please email me at Shad@kereport.com.   In full disclosure, Shad is a shareholder of Sandstorm Gold at the time of this recording.   Click here to follow along with the news from Sandstorm Gold

David has been involved in billions of dollars worth of royalty financings and has evaluated hundreds of resource projects, including on-site due diligence at mines all over the world.  Today we are going to speak about how the company has developed and what they have been up to more recently. David is going to be attending Europe's largest mining event, Resourcing Tomorrow, (Formerly known as Mines and Money London,) which is taking place in London on the 28th-30th of November, a great platform for the entire mining value chain, fostering learning, lively debates, and providing valuable networking opportunities. So get your tickets by going to: www.resourcingtomorrow.com/register to receive a discount on current early bird prices using the code DIGDEEP10 KEY TAKEAWAYS Sandstorm Gold is a royalty and streaming company focused on the precious metal space, with a strong belief in the value of owning royalties and streams. The company has a diverse portfolio of over 250 royalties and streams, with 40 cash-flowing assets and a focus on projects with long-term growth potential. Investing in a royalty company like Sandstorm Gold offers the benefits of exploration upside, expansion potential, and commodity price upside without the risks associated with owning a mining company. The mining industry is currently facing a lack of capital and outside investment, but the long-term demand for commodities like copper and gold suggests that this situation may change in the future. BEST MOMENTS "We have a real strong belief that there's a lot of great aspects of owning royalties and streams, of course, being attached to assets without having to spend the capex." "For a royalty streaming company, if you see the commodity price go up or margins go up, you can be guaranteed that as an owner, as a shareholder of it. It really is that much more protected and easy to understand model for investors looking into the space."  "The fact that nobody in the greater investment world has really taken that seriously or looked at that is really astounding. And so at some point, though, that really that problem has to come home to roost." "We've been accumulating bits and pieces of projects that we believe eventually are really going to get there. Now, of all 250 of our projects, or how many of them are going to be up and producing 10 years from now? Well, it's certainly not going to be all 250." Watch this on YouTube! The S&P 500 took a downturn, sitting on support with downside risk to 4200. Gold is flat again for the week, the miners and royalties went down. Great entry points for Gold Royalty Corp and Sandstorm Gold. Silver is up 2%, although the miners are down. Copper has presented some opportunities, in BHP, Ivanhoe Mines, and Arizona Metals. Arizona Metals has caught our interest, and we will be researching this company even more. Lithium blew through support, Bonds are getting very oversold and undervalued. Uranium spot price continues to climb, buyers bidding $70.50 and sellers asking $72. Watson noted Sandstorm plans to be "boring" over the next couple of years, focusing on paying down debt and waiting for four key assets to reach production.Watson sees volatility declining in Sandstorm's share price with major shareholders who had been selling down now mostly cleared out. Going forward, trading should be more fundamentals-driven. Institutional investors remain bullish on gold given high interest rates and see an upside if rates start falling. On the macro outlook, Watson believes central banks are supporting the institutional liquidation of gold, resulting in significant net buying. He sees gold emerging as a viable alternative reserve currency to the U.S. dollar over time as countries push for de-dollarization.Sandstorm expects to produce around 95,000 gold equivalent ounces in 2022. With no additional acquisitions, four assets under construction are slated to drive production to around 125,000 ounces by 2027, representing over 30% growth. These include Equinox Gold's Greenstone mine in Canada, Ivanhoe's Platreef mine in South Africa, Barrick's Robertson mine at Cortez in Nevada, and Houndé in Burkina Faso.Given high interest rates, Sandstorm plans no major acquisitions in the near term. The focus is on paying down debt taken on to fund recent deals. Watson may look to sell non-core assets to accelerate debt repayment. Once debt is reduced, Sandstorm has locked in an option to acquire a $225 million stream from Glencore's Mara project. In summary, Sandstorm offers stable growing cash flow leverage to the gold price from a diversified portfolio of world-class mines. With no equity issuances needed, investors can position for pending production growth through a period of debt reduction and anticipated sector upside.—Learn more: https://cruxinvestor.com

Kodiak Copper Corp. (TSX.V:KDK, OTCQB:KDKCF) is focused on its 100% owned copper porphyry projects in Canada and the USA. Kodiak Copper is backed by John Robins' Discovery Group, founded by Chairman Chris Taylor (President and CEO of Great Bear Resources), and led by Claudia Tornquist (former GM at Rio Tinto and former VP Business Development at Sandstorm Gold). The team has shown the ability to raise capital while protecting a tight share structure, and attracting strategic investors such as Teck Resources. The strategy behind Kodiak's portfolio is to apply Great Bear's successful approach to the copper space – unlock the value of historically drilled, underexplored assets in prime locations using new interpretation and technology. The Company's most advanced asset is the MPD copper-gold porphyry project in the prolific Quesnel Trough in southern British Columbia, Canada, where the Company made a discovery of high-grade mineralization in 2020 at the Gate Zone. A fully funded 2021 drill program of up to 25,000m is currently ongoing. Results to date have successfully extended the Gate Zone discovery to a strike length of 950m. More drill results will become available throughout the winter. A large drill program is planned for 2022 and in addition to the Gate Zone, the Company will also test several other porphyry centres with similar discovery potential and value impact as Gate.

Sandstorm Gold is a precious metals royalty company. Sandstorm helps finance mining operations in exchange for a royalty interest in the precious metals that a mining company produces. It’s a really interesting business model, and Nolan does a phenomenal job describing a company that screens as quite undervalued. The interview really is truly fantastic, in my opinion. One of the reasons I like it so much is because Nolan has a deep understanding of how the investing landscape has changed, and he does a great job describing those changes. With the growth in passive investing, mining companies have been starved of capital. The end result is that it’s become very challenging for mining companies to grow. However, situations like these present opportunities and Sandstorm and Nolan are capitalizing and profiting from these opportunities. F. William Engdahl, Michael Oliver and Nolan Watson return. With religious fervor, leftist politicians declare with 100% certainty that post-industrial-age humans are the primary cause of climate change. They demand the cessation of fossil fuel consumption. They site as “fact” that “99% of all scientists agree” but never tell you that the scientists in their data base have all been paid to write papers on that topic to reach that pre-ordained conclusion. Contrary views by legitimate scientists like Patrick Michaels, for example, are blindly dismissed. William will explain the political forces that have driven climate hysteria and their political and economic motives. We look forward to another discussion with Nolan Watson, the CEO of Sandstorm Gold, a royalty and streaming gold company poised for dramatic growth with lower than normal mining company investment risk. And if they hit… investors could see a 50%-plus pop in shares almost immediately.   It’s the type of risk/reward setup that’s too favorable to ignore.   That’s the good news…   Some of what I witnessed in Vancouver was cringeworthy… the same pump and dump scams I’ve seen too many times.   It reminded me why the natural resource industry can be so dangerous for investors. So on this week's Educational Segment, I’ll remind you of the key things to watch out for.   Good Investing, Frank Curzio

The questions are pouring in on IBM and Northern Dynasty (NAK)…   I’ve been bullish on each of these stocks in recent months. But after this week’s news, I have even more reason to add to my case.   On today’s show we start with IBM...   Warren Buffett just announced he sold off one-third of his position in the company, stating he “underestimated how much competition is in the space.” And later on said that he has revalued the stock “somewhat downward.”   It’s one of the very few investment choices Warren Buffett has made that hasn’t gone exactly as planned.   The stock price is down nearly 30% since Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway invested close to $11 Billion back in 2011.   And today, as all eyes are still on Buffett, IBM shares have pulled back even further.   But as I explain on the show, I’m taking a completely different stance… and explain why there’s still plenty of room for IBM to grow at these levels.   Let’s not forget, this is not a momentum stock trading at insane valuations with no dividend…   We’re talking a durable company trading at just 12X earnings. And is paying a 4% dividend yield which is more than double of what the average company in the S&P 500 pays.   Moving on, I then discuss the recent news surrounding NAK and the infamous EPA.   A settlement is expected to take place in less than one week. And from the looks of it, each party seems to be on common grounds.   Tune in as I explain why the world’s largest undeveloped copper and gold mine should be everyone’s radar in the next couple of days.   Other topics talked about: Sandstorm Gold’s (SAND) recent merger… The current state of oil & gas… and why America needs deregulation before tax and healthcare reforms.

Doug says how he's shocked he's still talking about central banker created bubbles since he started blogging about the technology bubble of the 1990s. Doug says that QE never stopped from global central banks as central banks like the Bank of Japan, ECB and PBOC injected ~$2 trillion of QE into capital markets in 2016. Doug says central bankers are 100% committed to maintaining the status quo now and they are terrified of letting asset prices fall without more intervention.

During this 30+ minute interview, Jason starts off by asking Nolan about why he thinks the gold price has had a strong rally since December? Nolan talks about asset bubbles all over the globe, failures of large banks like Deutsche Bank and how large money managers are looking for another place to park capital and how gold has benefited greatly from that. Jason and Nolan discuss the ~$12 trillion in global negative interest rates in government bonds. Next, Jason asks Nolan a number of questions about the gold mining industry including what gold price is needed to start building new gold mines and if the gold mining industry has done a good job of cutting costs? Jason spends a lot of time and many questions asking Nolan about his company, Sandstorm Gold and the deals it has done. Jason and Nolan discuss whether there's gold and silver byproduct streams available on copper and base metal miners, whether there's more competition on gold and silver royalty and streaming deals and why Sandstorm Gold has an enormous growth pipeline and is undervalued relative to its peer companies.
