Dukes and Bell Dukes and Bell open up the show with their reactions to the Braves win over the Reds on Monday as AJ Smith-Shawver nearly pitched a no-hitter, surrendering just one and no runs. As they discuss, they agree Smith-Shawver's outing is more of what the Braves need from their starters moving forward in order for the team to resemble a championship contending team. They then pivot to a brief conversation on the NBA playoffs and share some thoughts on the Celtics loss to the Knicks and both agree the team took too many low percentage shots which they believe cost the game.

Perhaps we forget too quickly how good this team can be. But early in spring, the signs are there that 2024 is in the rear view mirror. Jurikson Profar is already showing the type of player he can be, while Austin Riley and Matt Olson are looking much better than they did last spring. Meanwhile on the pitching side of things, A.J. Smith-Shawver and Spencer Schwellenbach are providing confidence that the pitching staff may have all the depth it needs. Not everything is positive, and it's very early, but after last season, we should take every positive thing we can get.

Atlanta Braves vs. San Diego Padres MLB Pick Prediction 10/1/2024 by Tony T. Braves at Padres—Ian Anderson expected to start for Atlanta. Anderson, Elder or Smith-Shawver are also possible starters. Anderson pitched in the minors with good numbers in three levels. He recovered from Tommy John surgery. Michael King to start for San Diego. King appeared in 31 games with an ERA of 2.95 and WHIP of 1.19. The righthander fans 27.7% with 8.7% walks. Ground balls are 40.4% with 0.88 home runs per nine innings.
The first half of the 2024 MLB season has come and gone, now we approach the dog days of summer and the stretch run. Thanks to an incredibly hot start to the season, the Braves are nine games over .500, but because of a lack of offense, they find themselves still 8.5 games back of the division lead. Now it is time for the offense to step up. The Braves pitching staff entered three players in to the All-Star Game, but going in to the second half of the season, they may need more rest as we approach the end of the season and the playoff race. In order to do that, the Braves may have to lean on younger pitchers, such as Spencer Schwellenbach, A.J. Smith-Shawver, and maybe even a returning Ian Anderson. Are any of these guys All-Star caliber? Not yet, but they can at least hold their own, but will need offensive run support. Marcell Ozuna had a great first half, and Austin Riley was among the hottest hitters in Baseball thru June, but Matt Olson hit a paltry .229, with thirteen home runs, and only forty-four RBIs. Remember when Matt Olson hit fifty-four home runs to break the Braves' single-season record? That was LAST YEAR. While Sean Murphy battled an oblique for a lot of the season, hitting only .211 in any stretch of the season is simply unacceptable. These guys are better than this. With the trade deadline looming, many are calling for the Braves to make a swap for another outfielder to add some offense, but that should not be necessary. While Reynaldo Lopez is pitching great, we have zero sample size of him as a starting pitcher for an entire season. Charlie Morton had a finger issue that kept him out of the 2023 playoffs, and Max Fried was battling sickness. Things happen. If anything, the Braves should spend a little capital on a starting pitcher at the trade deadline, because you can never have enough pitching in the playoffs. As far as the offense goes, for a successful second half of the season, the lineup as currently constructed simply needs to do their job. Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael discuss the Braves upcoming second half of the season.

The Atlanta Braves are still struggling at the plate, so much that when they do have a starting pitcher scuffle, you can pretty much chalk up a loss. In fact, the Braves are zero in they're last twenty-six games where they have given up four or more runs. That's not so great for the team that set the single-season record for home runs just last season. But, that is baseball, and the offense has shown some sparks lately, we just have to hope that they get hot at the right moment: the playoffs. One area that the Braves are doing great in is pitching, and there is likely more help on the way with the returns of A.J. Smith-Shawver and Ian Anderson. Max Fried is pitching his way in to a VERY lucrative contract, albeit probably won't be with the Braves. Chris Sale has been a revelation, who would've taken the National League lead in wins had the offense gotten a paltry two runs. Reynaldo Lopez, although struggling a little in his last start, may be the free agent acquisition of the year. But the unsung heroes have been the pitchers in the bullpen. The Braves currently have five relievers with an ERA under three, and the leader of that squad is veteran Jesse Chavez. Forty year-old Jesse Chavez has pitched in twenty-seven games this season, with an ERA of 1.51 with thirty strikeouts through thirty-five innings pitched. Chavez was on a similar track last year before he was struck in the leg by a comebacker that landed him on the IL for majority of the season. With public All-Star voting coming to a close, it is about time for the players and coaches to exercise their right to vote, and there is no other candidate that deserves it more than Braves' fan favorite veteran Jesse Chavez, AKA "The Coach". Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael talk to Braves insider Grant McCauley about Chavez, players due back from injury, and what the Braves may or may not do at the trade deadline.

Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies MLB Betting Pick Prediction 10/11/2023 by Tony T. Braves at Phillies—AJ Smith Shawver to start for Atlanta. Smith Shawver appeared in six games dealing an ERA of 4.26 with WHIP of 1.11. The rookie righthander strikes out 19% with 10.5% walks. Ground balls served at 37% with 2.49 home runs per nine innings. Bryce Elder is also a possible starter for Atlanta. Elder has 31 starts with an ERA of 3.81 and WHIP of 1.28. The second-year righty is striking out 17.5% with 8.6% walks. Grounders dished at 49.9% with 0.98 home runs per nine innings. Aaron Nola to start for Philadelphia. Nola has 32 starts with an ERA of 4.46 and WHIP of 1.15.
Sandra and Zinno open up with talk on the Atlanta Falcons and react to the trade for Van Jefferson, to which Sandra and Zinno agree that the move signals that Arthur Smith is looking to add pieces to help the offense spread out the defense. Zinno adds that if the Falcons want to be a playoff team, they need to win games that he considers “winnable” over the next few weeks, which include Sunday against the Commanders and the Buccaneers next week. Sandra and Zinno share their thoughts on why they would not mind if AJ Smith-Shawver ends up getting the start for the Braves on Wednesday, both agreeing that the biggest reason Smith-Shawver on the mound in Game 3 would be good is due to the fact that Phillies have not faced the right-handed pitcher. Then hitting the Belly Up: Max Fried goes and sat in front of his locker after being pulled out of Game 2 because once he heard things turning around for the Braves, not wanting to mess up the vibe. And sticking along the lines of superstition, the Rangers have been using Creed's “higher” as their theme song throughout their series with the Orioles.
Ronald Acuna Jr. has done so much for the Atlanta Braves from a historical standpoint. Acuna Jr. hit 41 home runs and 106 RBIs on the season. He seems to be the clear favorite to win the NL MVP. Tenitra, Jarvis and Grant reflected on the season that was. Also, they discussed whether or not Mookie Betts would come in a close second. Secondly, Brian Snitker came up with a plan for Max Fried once they saw that he was dealing with a blister issue. Fried pitched in a simulated game at Truist Park in preparation for the National League Divisional Series against the Philadelphia Phillies or the Miami Marlins. The team also talked about A.J. Smith-Shawver and Kyle Wright potentially being x-factors out of the bullpen. They wrapped things up with Marcel Ozuna being the second half MVP for the Braves. Lastly, the team wrapped things up by talking about which team would be the most favorable matchup, the Marlins or the Phillies.Join the subtext group here: https://joinsubtext.com/lockedonsportsatlantaFanDuelMake Every Moment More. Next, Tiffany, Mike, and Beau continue to talk about Atlanta Falcons Training Camp, and what they are looking forward to most when it comes to today's practice. Then, Tiffany and Mike take a look into Beau's life in The Life of Squid! On this edition of The Life of Squid, Beau “Squidbilly” Morgan reacts to one of the newest members of the New Orleans Saints, Jamal Williams, saying that he doesn't really see the difference between a beignet and a funnel cake. Finally, to close out this Tuesday edition of The Morning Shift Mike, Tiffany, and Beau spend some time with 92.9 The Game's own Braves insider, Grant McAuley! Tiffany, Beau, Mike and Grant discuss if he expects the Braves to make any moves before the 6pm deadline this evening, if A.J. Smith-Shawver could be a guy that could be moved before the trade deadline, if the Braves having a big lead in the NL East is allowing the Braves to not rush back Max Fried and Kyle Wright or if it's more about the injuries they sustained, what he thinks the Braves need to add before the trade deadline, and specifically Carlos Hernandez, and who is the unsung hero for the Braves this season.

After a small sweep of two games over the Philadelphia Phillies, the Braves have a six-game lead in the NL East over the Marlins, and they are ten games up on the Phillies, but can they get better? The Braves have six players in round two of MLB All-Star voting, and the number one vote getter in MLB in Ronald Acuña Jr. A.J. Smith-Shawver has been a nice shot in the arm for the Braves, and Bryce Elder has been pitching lights out, but let us not forget that the Braves are going to get Max Fried back sometime after the All-Star break, and could get Kyle Wright back before the end of the season as well. Have I mentioned that Mike Soroka almost threw a no-hitter this week in Gwinnett? This Atlanta Braves team is the best team in the league, and favored by Vegas right now to win it all, but as Randy McMichael and John Fricke discuss, they aren't even at their best yet.

The Atlanta Braves got a solid start from 20-year-old rookie AJ Smith-Shawver and a much-needed relief outing from Michael Tonkin, added some key hits and put it all together for an 8-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Thursday at Truist Park. Grant McAuley recaps the action and previews Game 2 of the series on Friday.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
92.9 The Game Atlanta Braves Insider Grant McAuley talks about expectations for Spencer Strider after a few so-so outings, why the team is using Dylan Dodd today and not A.J. Smith-Shawver, when Marcell Ozuna might return from being hit-by-pitch, what it would take for Jesse Chavez to be selected as an NL All Star, Orlando Arcia currently leading the voting for starting NL All Star, and the Oakland A's future lying in Las Vegas.
Ji-Hwan Bae, 2B/OF, PIT (CBS: 43% rostered, ESPN: 7% rostered): Why is Ji-Hwan Bae rostered to such a low level? He's 19-of-24 swiping bases, good for fifth overall as we enter mid-June. It's time to give your Free Agent pool a scan to see if somehow he has been overlooked. He shouldn't be.Will Brennan, OF, CLE (CBS: 9% rostered, ESPN: 3% rostered): In the past seven games, Brennan has gone 11-for-29 with two homers and seven RBI. On most teams, that would be a good week. In Cleveland, it's otherworldly.Kerry Carpenter, OF, DET (CBS: 8% rostered, ESPN: 1% rostered): The injuries to Riley Greene and now Akil Baddoo have allowed Kerry Carpenter to play full-time. He has gone 10-for-15 in his past four games and should see a steady diet of at-bats until the walking wounded are back walking.Colton Cowser, OF, BAL (CBS: 28% rostered, ESPN: 1% rostered): If it wasn't for the quad injury, there's a good chance Cowser would already be plying his trade in Baltimore. Now recovered, how long will it take to see him plying his trade in Baltimore? My guess is not very long.Christian Encarnacion-Strand, 3B, CIN (CBS: 45% rostered, ESPN: Everyone else has been called up in Cincinnati. It's only a matter of time before Encarnacion-Strand gets his opportunity. With 17 home runs and a .427 BA in 177 at-bats at Triple-A Louisville, that opportunity will likely come sooner rather than later.Stuart Fairchild, OF, CIN (CBS: 1% rostered, ESPN: not rostered): Jake Fraley once again hits the IL, joining Wil Myers and Nick Senzel. Stuart Fairchild has helped pick up the slack and thus far has done an admirable job, slugging a couple of homers with 19 RBI and seven thefts. The outfield has taken a big hit injury-wise in the past couple of weeks. Fairchild could provide at least a temporary option.Nolan Jones, OF, COL (CBS: 42% rostered, ESPN: 8% rostered): Are we finally seeing a breakout from Nolan Jones? In five games this week, he has gone 6-for-16 with a pair of homers. It's worth a small bid to determine if this hot streak is sustained.Corey Julks, OF, HOU (CBS: 10% rostered, ESPN: 1% rostered): Long-term, Julks is more than likely a fourth outfielder, but short-term, the stolen base potential is providing sneaky value. He has four thefts this week with more to come, and for a small investment could be accumulating them on your Fantasy squad.Nick Pratto, 1B/OF, KCR (CBS: 29% rostered, ESPN: 4% rostered): Over the past seven games, Pratto has gone 6-for-22 with a homer and 3 RBI, hitting mainly out of the leadoff slot. Playing time should not be an issue with Vinnie Pasquantino on the IL with right shoulder instability.Emmanuel Rivera, 1B/3B, ARZ (CBS: 4% rostered, ESPN: 1% rostered): It's crowded in Arizona, with Josh Rojas and Emmanuel Rivera in a job share, but Rivera appears to be slowly winning the battle. The power and speed are limited, but there's no doubting Rivera's ability to control the strike zone. In deeper Leagues, that .860 OPS provides value.Tarik Skubal, SP, DET (CBS: 25% rostered, ESPN: 4% rostered): The rehab clock has started, and so far, so good. We're looking at a much-anticipated early July return to the Tigers rotation. Buying in early will save you some of that precious FAAB.A.J. Smith-Shawver, SP, ATL (CBS: 58% rostered, ESPN: 13% rostered): The 20-year-old righthander got that first start under his belt and handled it in fine fashion. He went 5 1/3 innings allowing two unearned runs in a no-decision. That has earned him another start against the Tigers. Go get him and get him active.Mark Vientos, 3B, NYM (CBS: 17% rostered, ESPN: 1% rostered): Pete Alonso got plunked on the wrist last Wednesday, suffering a bone bruise and sprained left wrist that will leave him sidelined for the next month. There will be opportunities in New York for additional at-bats, and it's worth a small bid to see if Vientos and that power potential gets his share of them.Bryan Woo, SP, SEA (CBS: 13% rostered, ESPN: 1% rostered): The first game was underwhelming, to say the least, but Woo bounced back nicely in his second outing, holding the Angels to two runs over 4 2/3 innings while chipping in with seven strikeouts. He has earned another start. The Closer ReportAdbert Alzolay, RP, DET (CBS: 12% rostered, ESPN: 2% rostered): With two saves in his past five appearances and sporting a 30/4 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 30 appearances, Alzolay has moved into the setup role with an eye towards working the ninth regularly.Scott McGough, RP, ARZ (CBS: 8% rostered, ESPN: 2% rostered): McGough got off to a rough start and lost the closer job but has rebounded nicely. He hasn't allowed an earned run since May 12, a span of 10 appearances (14 IP). Over that span, he has amassed 21 strikeouts. In Leagues that count holds, it's time to include him in your future plans.A.J. Minter, RP, ATL (CBS: 24% rostered, ESPN: 12% rostered): The season has been one of very high highs and very low lows, but after both the success and failure, Minter has shown a return to the “good AJ”. He has two saves and a win this week and has solidified his hold on the setup gig. It's time to get him rostered and active, again.Andres Munoz, RP, SEA (CBS: 51% rostered, ESPN: 47% rostered): There was considerable debate as to whether Paul Sewald would own the ninth inning for the M's heading into 2023. A right shoulder strain suffered by Munoz back in early April made that decision a moot point. Well, Munoz has returned from the IL and is already flashing that huge strikeout potential. In a worst-case scenario, you wind up with a high K/9 setup man. At the best, a job share closing and save opportunities. It seems like a win/win to us.This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/3306394/advertisement

After a bad series in Oakland and dropping the first game in Arizona in disappointing fashion, the Braves bounced back in impressive form. Acuna continues to dazzle while Eddie Rosario came to life in a big way, punctuated by a go ahead grand slam in the 9th inning to clinch the series win. Meanwhile, the starting staff continues to shift as Soroka goes back to AAA while A.J. Smith-Shawver looks to be in line for a start this weekend.
Terry Fontenot and Arthur Smith had a gameplan once they knew they would have money to spend once the new league year started. The Atlanta Falcons started with the hiring of Ryan Nielsen as their new defensive coordinator. Grady Jarrett has seen a lot of changes as he is going into his ninth year at the helm. Jarvis Davis and Jamie Walker talked about Jarrett starting to see what Nielsen brings to the table. Secondly, Alex Anthopoulos has really established himself as one of the best general managers in Major League Baseball. The Atlanta Braves had another young arm in A.J. Smith-Shawver made his debut yesterday. Brian Snitker decided to put him in a pretty tight situation. Jarvis Davis and Jamie Walker talked about how Anthopoulos just continues to be able to find talent to make this team better. Lastly, the Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets are tied up at one in the NBA Finals. Atlanta Braves insider for 92.9 The Game, Grant McAuley, gives his prediction on when he thinks AJ Smith Shawver will make his Braves debut, and Grant also explains why Smith Shawver will be a good shot in the arm for the Braves bullpen.
The Braves continued their less than stellar stretch of baseball, losing two out of three games to the lowly Oakland A's. Despite continued bullpen struggles and inconsistent offense, some positive developments are happening. Michael Soroka made his much anticipated return and top prospect A.J. Smith-Shawver was called up to bolster the bullpen. As the Braves get an off day and turn around to play the surging D'Backs, perhaps this is the moment for a nice Braves run of good baseball.
92.9 The Game Atlanta Braves Insider Grant McAuley talks about the Braves underperforming in the first two games against the Oakland Athletics, how Michael Soroka looked in his return outing, what the next step is for Michael Soroka, what the plan is for A.J. Smith-Shawver, how quickly top prospects move through systems nowadays, and the performance of Bryce Elder.
The Georgia Bulldogs have been in the news for all the wrong reasons ever since they won back-to-back national titles. Kirby Smart addressed the media about his players being arrested on speeding violations. Jarvis Davis and Tenitra Batiste talked about whether or not Smart handled things the right way. Also, they discussed the Atlanta Braves calling up A.J. Smith-Shawver. Secondly, Terry Fontenot and Arthur Smith have been very clear about wanting to have versatility in all three phases of the game. So, when the Atlanta Falcons drafted Bijan Robinson, it was right on brand with what they're trying to do. Jarvis Davis and Tenitra Batiste talked about how the Falcons' backfield stacks up against the rest of the NFL. Lastly, School Daze, I'm going to get you sucka, and Coming to America turned 35 years old today.
