Are you saving TOO much for retirement (or early retirement)? Could you retire years sooner than you think? Will retirement expenses be even less than what you spend now, allowing you to reach FIRE faster with a smaller nest egg? Today, we're getting into that exact question as Finance Friday guest Ethan asks how he can ensure he's on the right track for early retirement by age fifty-five. And if you're like Ethan, you could retire RIGHT NOW…but should you? Ethan is spending a LOT of money every month. He's got two kids in private school, extracurricular sports fees, pricey car payments, and a mortgage. The good news? He's raking in cash at his high-paying tech job! His current expenses cost him nearly $20,000 per month, but this number could be cut in half (if not more) once his kids leave the house. This means that his FIRE number might be a fraction of what he thinks it has to be to retire early. Speaking of early retirement, is it wise to leave such a high-paying career to sit on the beach all day? Ethan has the skills and the energy to make a sizable income, so what should he do instead of full-time work once he reaches early retirement? Should he transition to part-time consulting, focus more on rental property investing, or buy a business? In This Episode We Cover Why your FIRE number may be WAY off from what you need to retire early The retirement expenses that disappear once your kids are out of the house Making money in retirement and whether buying a hands-off business is your best bet Planning for future weddings and how much you should set aside for your kid's big day Limiting your taxes by qualifying for real estate professional status (REPS) Whether or not you're keeping too much cash on hand (is the bank account interest worth it?) It wasn't until arriving in the melting pot of Montreal Canada, she began to discover her true cultural identity. Urmi loves volunteering as she believes in the power of giving back to her community. As the leader and social media manager of the Women in Leadership Organization Victoria Chapter, Urmi advocates for women's empowerment and is very passionate about serving as a teacher and mentor for young women. In North America, Urmi's favorite US cities are New York and Boston, and she loves the tropical oases of Cancun, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. She wishes to travel to Peru, Bali, South Africa, Brazil, Morocco and the Maldives.Alongside finance, public speaking, writing, mentoring, blogging, and travel, Urmi has many hobbies, which include reading 12 books each year, baking and pasta making, practicing Muay Thai, and watching Korean soap operas and Bollywood movies. Urmi fluently speaks Italian, Bengali, English, and French and she is currently working to master Spanish. She loves pasta, chocolate, and coffee from around the world. Any activity that is high intensity or that involves learning, Urmi is up for it. As a “student of life,” Urmi is constantly hungry to learn and curious about all things.

A Journey Through History Rome's history spans over 2,000 years, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. From its legendary founding by Romulus and Remus to its evolution into the capital of the mighty Roman Empire, the city has played a pivotal role in shaping Western civilization. Rome is a treasure trove of architectural marvels that showcase the skill and creativity of generations past. The Colosseum, an imposing amphitheater, symbolizes ancient Roman engineering and entertainment. Its grandeur and the stories of gladiators and epic battles that once took place within its walls continue to inspire awe. If you are taking a tour, book the ground flour tour. You will need half a day to explore the Colosseum.Another architectural gem is the Pantheon, a feat of engineering and design with its perfectly preserved dome and oculus. Originally built as a temple to honor the gods, the Pantheon's dome remains the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world, a testament to the ingenuity of Roman architects. It is a quick visit and larger than most expect!Architectural MarvelsAnother exciting spot is Largo di Torre Argentina, where Julius Caesar was assassinated. Also known as the Area Sacra, this area is a large sunken square containing the ruins of four ancient temples and the Curia of Pompey. Area Sacra is another quick visit. For more historical sites, visit the Victor Emmanuel II National Monument and the Forum and Palatine Hill. The Victor Emmanuel II National Monument is a large national monument built between 1885 and 1935 to honor Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a unified Italy. The iconic Roman Forum, a sprawling archaeological site, offers a glimpse into ancient Rome's political, social, and religious life. Walking through these ancient ruins, one can almost hear the echoes of the past and imagine the grandeur of the empire that once ruled a vast expanse of the world. The Forum and Palatine Hill are where you can find Octavian's (also known as Ceaser Agustus) house, the imperial palace, and where Romulus, the founder of Rome, lived. You will need a full day or two to explore the vast area has a multitude of history. All the churches in Rome are spectacular. You can walk into any for a beautiful historical and moving site. A favorite church in Rome was Sant'Ignazio of Loyola Church.Vatican City: A Spiritual CenterNestled within the city of Rome, Vatican City is the smallest independent state in the world and the spiritual epicenter of the Roman Catholic Church. Home to the awe-inspiring St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums, this tiny enclave is a pilgrimage site for millions of faithful and art enthusiasts.St. Peter's Basilica, with its imposing dome and breathtaking interior, is a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture. The Vatican Museums house an extraordinary collection of art and artifacts amassed by the Catholic Church over centuries, including Michelangelo's stunning frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.Remember, you must walk up the dome about 500 stairs to get to the top of St. Peter's Basilica. Pay a bit extra to take the elevator or wear comfy shoes because you still need to walk 300 stairs even with taking the elevator. Don't forget to tour the Sistine Chapel. With all its facets, you can spend as little as one and as many as three days at the Vatican. They have self-guided and private tours. Don't forget to book entry & all tours. The Art If you are a lover of "Arte," the Borghese art museum is a must-see. Here, explore the works of Raphael, such as Young Woman with Unicorn, and works by Caravaggio. This museum is also one of the few sites where you don't need to pre-book or get a guide. However, the museum only allows a certain number of people each hour.Culinary DelightsItalian cuisine is renowned worldwide, and Rome is no exception. From classic pasta dishes like carbonara and cacio e pepe to mouth-watering pizzas and gelato, the city's culinary scene is a delight for the senses. Trattorias and osterias line the charming cobblestone streets, offering a chance to savor authentic flavors passed down through generations. Our top picks for all things “buonissimo” are Tempio di Bacco, Gallura. Tempio di Bacco is a delicious local spot where the owner is quite friendly. Gallura is outstanding dining with a modern twist. Don't forget to stop for gelato.Exploring the NeighborhoodsRome's neighborhoods each have a unique character and charm. With its narrow streets and colorful buildings, Trastevere exudes a bohemian atmosphere. The Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain are located in the charming area of Piazza di Spagna. The Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps are gorgeous. At the top of the Spanish Steps, The Church of the Santissima Trinità dei Monti can be found. At the same time, the historic Jewish Ghetto offers a glimpse into a lesser-known facet of Rome's history. Where to StayBook a room at the Westin Excelsior Rome for the perfect stay when in Rome. For those couples looking for a wedding with plenty of activities, Estes Park is perfect! With abundant outdoor activities, your wedding party can come together in nature's finest playgrounds. Estes Park has something for everyone, from hiking trails and backcountry camping to golf courses and ski slopes. With Rocky Mountain National Park only a ten-minute drive from Estes, the bride, groom, and all their guests have time to explore. The park has hiking trails; if you want to avoid hiking, you can drive through the entire park! Some of my favorite animals in the park are foxes, mule deer, big horned sheep, elk, rocky mountain elk, moose, coyote, mountain Lion, black bears, and yellow-bellied marmot. When it comes to breathtaking scenery, Estes Park has a rocky mountain backdrop that is perfect for your big day. Whether you host your wedding outdoors or inside one of the Park's many luxurious venues, the area's stunning natural beauty will be hard to miss. I recommend staying in the Black Canyon Inn, which has the best view of the Estes Valley and surrounding mountains, or the historic Stanley Hotel, where the shining was filmed. The Stanley also has Spirited Night Tours and delicious food at their Cascades Restaurant & Lounge and The Post Chicken & Beer bar. The Cascades whiskey bar has fantastic drinks and some of the best lamb lobster bisk I have ever tasted! The post is a top-notch spot for brunch after a wedding, and it also has dinner and excellent hot chicken. Other top-notch breakfast, brunch, and lunch spots are Notch Top Bakery & Cafe, Mountain Home Cafe, The Egg of Estes, Kind Coffee, and the Big Horn Restaurant.Notch Top Bakery & Cafe is located in Stanley Village Shopping Center. It is usually crowded but has excellent food and pretty decor. Mountain Home Cafe is also located in the Stanley Village Shopping Center but has a more casual atmosphere. The Egg of Estes is located in downtown Estes. It is diner-style with a relaxed atmosphere. I enjoyed it so much that I returned several times on our trip. Kind Coffee is located at the beginning of downtown Estes. Parking is a bit difficult here, but it is excellent for a quick breakfast. They have great Coffee, bagels, and burritos. Big Horn Restaurant is located at the end of Main Street and has a casual atmosphere. The shopping and dining in Estes Park offer a surprising variety for a small town. From local boutiques and antique stores to incredible restaurants and dining experiences, there's something for everyone. My favorite store was The Christmas Shoppe where my husband and I found some memorable gifts for the whole family. For dinner, stop at the Dunraven or Bird and Jim. The Dunraven has a beautiful lake view in the valley of Estes, and The Birds Nest is a great rehearsal dinner spot. By day, it's only a coffee shop, but the second floor is a beautiful event space. Food is catered by the first-class restaurant across the street called Bird and Jim. If you are looking for a chill brewery for a meet and greet or to hang with friends, check out The Barrel or The Wheel Bar. Whatever you're looking for, whether it's gifts for your wedding party or the perfect dress for your big day, Estes Park has it all! With its natural beauty, abundant activities, and countless shopping and dining options, Estes Park is the perfect destination for your wedding this season. Whether planning an extravagant affair or a cozy gathering of family and friends, Estes Park will surely provide unforgettable memories on your special day. So, what are you waiting for? Start planning your Estes Park wedding today!

The Great American Roadtrip- How to Plan and What to ExpectWant to travel more but hate to fly? Do the cost of those plane tickets always stop you saying yes to your next trip? Today we dive into one of our favorite ways to travel, where the journey is just as fun as the destination - the classic road trip.#1 Why Road Trips? This was our #1 way of traveling when we were low on funds. We started with weekend trips and graduated to longer, more intense trips. We were able to explore a lot of New England with very little money. Now we use roadtrips not so much as a budget trip, but more of a way to enjoy the journey of a trip, just as much as the destination.#2 How We Planned our Great American RoadtripWe had 5 weeks to do the roadtrip. I know that sounds like a lot of time off, but it goes fast when planning to drive all the way across the country. We were able to visit 12 states, just as many campsites and see some of the best sites in the US. Concept #3 Our #1 Roadtrip Tips and What's Next for UsWe mentioned some of these but here's a roundup of our best tips: Figure out how far you're willing to drive, go on google maps and start looking at how far those hours will get you. Leave time to stop on the way in case you find something cool Figure out your travel style- do you want to go straight flexible or do something closer to our trip (a hotel booked for every night).Figure out a home base and hop around from there. It'll save you some sanity about having to pack and repack all the time, which is most of the roadtrip. Know your travel limits. This takes a toll. Make sure to add in purposeful breaks! Pack in a “capsule” style- meaning a few staple pieces that can be used in many ways. That will cut down on how much you need to pack and unpack each night. If you're camping- make sure to have a good cooler, a cast iron pan and (our favorite) a jet boil for your morning coffee! What's next- We hope to rent a Campervan internationally. To me, the Campervan adds a layer of ease to traditional roadtripping that I think will take the adventures to the next level. I'll add a blog down at the bottom for my favorite Campervan couple and they even do it with a baby! When I do my Scotland Campervan trip, I'm definitely using their guide. And no, we're definitely not sponsored, they don't even know we exist! Stuck on the budget for that dream trip to Europe? Would you believe us if we said you could have a week in Paris for just $3000, without staying in hostels, skipping experiences or saying no to your 3rd pastry of the day? Stick around to hear our full itinerary breakdown of our Christmas in Paris for two and we'll share a treasure trove of tips on how to create a trip of your own that you can book THIS YEAR.#1 Breaking Down Costs of International Travel : Transportation and AccommodationYour number one expense is probably going to be transportation and accommodations. These are also things you cannot adjust on the fly so you have to be specific about the budget for this. This is where our favorite (Scott's Cheap Flights) is the only way we're able to do these trips. Our total costs for transportation was: $995 and accommodations: $755. That brings the total so far to: $1750#2 Breaking Down Costs of International Travel: EntertainmentPlenty of things to do cheaply (or even free!). There are usually a plethora of free walking tours that can give you the lay of the land. There are often hidden gems to be found when walking around cities and keeping your eyes out. In fact, we found a Christmas concert in Saint Chapel for $50/per person that we jumped on! We also headed for Disneyland Paris, which was a really amazing experience and a great way to add some variety in our trip. It was also cool to compare the different parks (we've been to 3 park systems, Walt Disney World Resorts, Disneyland Resorts and now Disneyland Paris!). Entertainment costs bring our total to: $2150 but we were able to cover those expenses through some simple travel hacking. **Quick note here- you can almost never use travel points on Disney tickets because they don't code as travel! We simply covered part of our accommodations that we had already planned in the budget to cover the cost of the Disney tickets! #3 Breaking Down Costs of International Travel: FoodBecause we “travel hacked” our way out of the cost of Disney tickets, we had $1250 (or over $200/day) for food, and that's a good thing too because we were in Paris afterall. We went to over a dozen patisseries, multiple Christmas markets, cafes, gastropubs, etc. We definitely did not feel deprived of food this trip! In fact, we had to come home and eat some veggies because we were so full of bread! So after eating our way through Prais, Strasbourg and Disneyland Paris, we met our total budget of $3000. Lindsay closes out our tour of Norway with a three-course meal of fire and even more fire. For starters, we learn about the Bloody Monk of Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim who likes to get handsy, and not in a great way, before diving into our main course — a curious phone in Bærums Verk that likes to ring on the reg with no one on the other end of the line. To close out our meal, we visit the capital city of Oslo and Akershus Fortress where we learn about its fucked up security system. Long-term travel planning can be a challenge. Long-term travel planning for a family is even more so. There are so many factors to consider when planning a gap year, a round-the-world trip or other forms of long-term family travel. These invariably involve money, education, travel gear and more. And that's before you actually consider where to go! Listen in as we talk about what one family is considering before they leave their home, with plans to return after a year or longer. IN THIS EPISODE 02:21 Intro 03:14 Long-Term Travel Planning 04:45 Overview of Long-Term Travel Planning 09:27 Budgeting Long-Term Family Travel 12:49 Saving for Long-Term Travel 15:13 Main Aspects of Long-Term Travel Planning 18:33 Logistics & Paperwork 24:09 Leaving His Job (and Finding Another) 27:55 Long-Term Travel Gear 31:40Long-Term Travel Itinerary - Southeast Asia & Eastern Europe 34: 17 Other Long-Term Travel Planning Essentials ABOUT Names: Mark Wyld, his wife Becca and their daughters Willow & Marley Hold passports from: Australia Type of travel: Short-term travel, & now planning long-term travel A few places they've been: All over Australia & Europe FIND THEM ON Wyld Family Travel |Facebook |Twitter | Instagram| Pinterest Long-Term Travel Planning For Families Some long-term traveling families dive in head-first. They sell their house and possessions to hit the road indefinitely. Other families plan to travel for a year or more and return to the house or hometown they left. Both methods have their benefits and challenges. Today we'll talk about long-term travel planning for families who plan to return "home." Why do I put "home" in quotes? Simply because after a year or more on the road, your definition of "home" may change. It did for me (although after 20+ years, I've haven't moved back to where I first left). And it has for many of the families I know who choose gap year travel, round-the-world travel or other forms of long-term family travel. Here are a few previous guests who've traveled for a year or more: The Suero Family (Ecuador, France, RV in Europe & More) The Cannon Family (Peru, Myanmar & more) The Goldstein Family (Malaysia, Namibia, Iceland & more) The Koria Family and the Lynch Family (Both Driving around Mexico) The Stuler Family (Living in Ecuador, with one year of full-time RTW travel) The Shetty Family (RTW travel with babies) More on Long-Term Travel More on Gap-Year Travel More on RTW (round-the-world) Travel More on Short-Term Travel Today's long-term travel guest is Mark Wyld from Wyld Family Travel. You may remember him from episode #67. Mark and his family are passionate family travelers. Until now, their family travel experiences have been short-term, then returning to their home and schools in Australia. Now Mark is planning long-term travel for the family: 12-18 months in Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe. Are they selling everything to hit the road? No. They're keeping the house, keeping the cars, and their daughters will return to their schools in the same grade. Long-term travel like this offers its own challenges, and that's what we talk about today. Leaving for a year or more and then returning like this raises specific questions: What do I do with my house? My cars? How will I save and budget for this trip? Where will we go? How much will each country cost? What about my job? What about insurance and other paperwork? Which immunizations and other medical prep should we consider? How can I keep the kids up-to-date with school so they can return to the same class? These are just a few questions that Mark has asked himself lately, and we discuss them in the podcast. Why Long-Term Travel Planning? Why Now? The Wyld family have been long-time traveler fans, but Mark has dreamed about doing long-term family travel for years. It's something he's always wanted to do. However, work, school, and other obligations kept pushing the dram onto the back-burners. Then his father died. His dad had talked about taking one last holiday but didn't get a chance to take it. For Mark, this was a sign. It was time to take the big trip. Is there ever a right time to plan long-term travel? Probably not, but none of us are getting any younger, so Mark decided to push forward. Long-Term Travel Planning for Homeowners Mark had no intention of selling his home. At his age (mid-40's) he didn't want the risk of starting over with loans and all of the other complications of buying a house. But what do you do with your house when you'll be gone for a year or more? Mark had to consider homeowner's insurance, but there were other factors he needed to consider. Who would keep the lawn cut? How would be pay for "council rates," which are the fees for city services such as garbage pickup? Money: Budgeting & Saving for Long-Term Travel Long-term family travel isn't as expensive as some people think it is, but it ain't free. In order to plan long-term travel for your family, there has to be a savings plan and a budgeting plan. Mark talks about how they save for long-term travel, and some of it is stuff you probably know: don't buy new stuff unless it's vital. Eliminate silly extras, and put as much money away as you can. Last year, Mark and his wife Becca save over 30,000 Australian dollars (approx USD $23,000). They are not hedge-fund managers or bank presidents. What they are is dedicated. Saving like that takes commitment. Then there is the budgeting for the money spent on the road. Mark is estimating they'll spend about AUS 1,000 (approx USD $760) a week, but he's still hammering out the details. Mark has numerous bank accounts set up for this trip. One account is for spending money on the road. Another is for house-related expenses while they're away. A third is for when they return. He explains more in detail in the podcast. They'll be traveling to places where your money can stretch further. Places in Southeast Asia like Thailand, Bali, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Then they'll move to Eastern Europe and countries like Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Romania. Education, Travel Gear & More Long-Term Travel Planning Aspects Money is only one aspect of long-term travel for families. In this episode, Mark and I talk about the gear they plan to bring — or have sent to them later. We also talk about how they plan to educate the kids as they travel, and how their hometown school will help facilitate this so the girls can remain with their class when they return. All this and more in this episode of Epic Education Radio. Listen in! And please share! Apologies And Statements Ralph has a few things to clear up before we jump into this episode, and it begins with apologizing for mispronouncing the name of one of the co-hosts of Social Media Unscrambled. Of course, next week he will apologize for calling it “Social Media Scrambled” in this episode. He also takes umbrage with Janet Johnson, one of the hosts of Business Growth Time, whose marketing campaign had a typo, but who didn’t respond when Ralph pointed it out. Mostly, he wants to know: whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? Finally, SuperFred and friend Nadia Bracken let us know that we may have used the a-s-s word too many times in last week’s episode, especially since her mom listens, too. We apologize profusely because we’re just so happy to hear that her mom listens to our podcast! Traveling On A Budget. Or Not. Last week, Ralph asked me to tally up the expenses of our 11-week cross-country road trip. So I did. On this episode we disclose the amount we spent. But why? It’s important to let you know that we’re not “lifestyle entrepreneurs.” We don’t work from the beach and insist that you can too, if only you follow our ten-step plan and sign up for our email list. So we’re not talking about money to tell you how amazing we are or to pitch you on doing things our way. We just like to travel. We discovered that recently, when we did it for real for the first time. And we were fortunate enough to have a really good year financially, so we didn’t have to travel on a budget. We were cost-conscious in some ways, and extravagant in others. But we know we COULD travel on a budget if we wanted to. Here’s what we learned about traveling smart, so that if you want to get out of a stuck space and spend time somewhere else, you can do it even if you have a small budget. It’s a matter of mindset and a willingness to compromise. The Expenses After tallying it all up, the receipts, the credit card bills and the little bit of cash we brought, we spent about $22,000. Rounding it up just to have a nice even number, and in case we left anything out, let’s call it $25,000. That includes a place to stay, food, gas, parking, and entertainment. It also includes anything we spent on incidentals on the road. Like toothpaste. And coffee. It doesn’t include money we spent on souvenirs. We spent a couple hundred dollars here and there on t-shirts (one from every city and town!), gifts, and other fun things, but I don’t count that as a travel expense. It was totally optional. That’s less than Ralph thought we spent, and more than we could have. But what if you don’t have $25,000 lying around? Eating Smart You’ve got to eat. And you’ve got to do that whether you stay home or travel across the country. So if you eat smart then you don’t have to figure much if any additional budget for food. We went to restaurants when we arrived at our destinations but we almost never ate from the road. We bought a cooler and filled it with fruit and bottled water, and stocked up on non-perishables like nuts and granola bars. Grab a loaf of bread, some cold cuts and a little PB&J and you can eat anywhere, anytime, inexpensively. If you stay somewhere with a kitchen (or even an outdoor grill) you can cook for yourself instead of spending on restaurants. Our cooler was a lifesaver. We bought a Yeti cooler, because we had experience with their products in the past and we know how awesome they are. We used one of their travel mugs for years. You can make a cup of tea in the morning and it will still be piping hot by afternoon. We also got their half gallon jug. We put a cold beverage inside and days later it was still ice cold. So getting a Yeti was more expensive than getting a traditional cooler but it was easy to carry (more like a giant purse than a cooler) and it kept food cold for days. We could stock up on food from farmer’s markets, roadside stands and grocery stores. It was like having a mini refrigerator. We saved a ton of money simply by not buying bottled water on the road. Compare two bucks a case at the supermarket to two bucks a bottle at a gas station. That can really add up. Staying Smart Our trip included one very expensive, luxurious week at the Salish Lodge and Spa in Washington state. That one week accounted for a sizeable chunk of our budget, but it was our anniversary and we gave ourselves a present. It’s not the kind of thing you do on every trip but it was totally worth it! We got a suite on the waterfall and enjoyed every second of the beautiful room, the stunning scenery, the great people and the incredible food. If you want to feel like you’re on top of the world and have money to spend, we highly recommend it. But if you’re on a budget, there’s a lot you can do to keep your room costs in check. Start with one of the hotel apps, like Priceline or Hotels.com. If you can stand a little risk, pull the app out when you show up in a town and see what the deals are. You can sometimes get great deals at the last minute. Airbnb is another great option for lower cost rooms. If you’re OK sharing space with other people, you can get pretty good rates on rooms in other people’s homes. If you want a little more privacy, like your own bathroom, you’re going to pay more, but you can still find nice places at good rates. If you’re using Airbnb, look for rules and amenities that suit you. You can find places that allow pets, include parking, wifi, kitchens and patios, and a lot more. Some people don’t allow shoes or meat, others want quiet time by 9PM. Find something that fits your lifestyle. Look for extended stay hotels or Airbnbs that offer discounts for a longer stay. If you want to get away and aren’t looking to do the touristy thing, go someplace for a month and you’ll get a better deal than if you place-hop every few nights. Sometimes a MUCH better deal. Go off the beaten path. If you aren’t looking to go to the biggest tourist havens, you can get much better rates. January in our breach town is deserted, so rooms are much cheaper than they are in July. Don’t mind being in Arizona in the dead of the August heat? You can get some super nice rooms for dirt cheap. We even found hotels that did “stay two nights get one free” deals, so look for those, too! And finally: campgrounds. We didn’t stay overnight at one but it’s a possibility next time. You might be surprised by some of the amenities. You can find campsites with showers, electricity, and even wifi. And there are often common rooms where you can meet and socialize with other people, and even use laundry facilities. Yes, you can spend a little more and get yourself a cabin, but for very little money you can get a spot to park your car and either sleep right in it, or pull out a small tent. Depending on where you are, you could spend no more than $20 a night. And since you’re a nomad now, you can leave your camping spot during the day and do a little sightseeing, or go park yourself at a café and work right from there. Travel More, Spend Less Knowing what we know now, we could do another 11-week trip and easily cut our budget in half. We could do that without even thinking too hard, without having to sacrifice our private bathroom, and even getting to go out for a nice filet mignon and lobster tail dinner now and then. So yes, if you’re having a great year and want to treat yourself to something fun, grab your keys and go see some of this amazing country. But if you’re daydreaming about getting out of town “if only you could afford it”, then grab your keys anyway, stock up on granola bars and go find someone with a room to rent. If you’re willing to take a chance, to leave your “safe space” for a little while and roll with whatever happens, it really can be that easy. A Final PSA We learned early on that using a debit card on the road was a really bad idea. If it gets stolen (and ours was, numerous times), that’s a direct line to your bank account. Use a credit card instead because you’re protected if it's stolen and it won’t affect your cash. As for credit cards, use one with rewards if you’ve got it. We used our Discover card, which amounted to several hundred dollars of cash back at the end of the trip, and that’s like free money you can use to help pay for the credit card! Things And Stuff This episode was like one giant ad for stuff we love, and we think some of these people should pay us for raving about them. If you run into them in the street, let them know! Check out Yeti products if you camp, hike, travel or just want something you can keep out in the sun on barbecue day that won’t melt in an hour. Book yourself a room (even better, book a suite) at the Salish Lodge and Spa if you want to be pampered. Listen to Social Media UNscrambled and Business Growth Time and tell them we sent you. Also, big props to Bensound for providing the royalty-free music that we used behind Ralph's apologies. Finally, enjoy this skit from Key and Peele, related to a reference Ralph made that we’ll apologize for next week.
