Tim is a law professor at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, who twice challenged the most powerful political figure in Florida: Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Representative Wasserman Schultz was not only a six-term member of the United States House of Representatives when Tim first challenged her in the 2016 Democratic Primary, she was also Chair of the Democratic National Committee (until resigning on July 28, 2016, upon the release of emails suggesting that she conspired to undermine the presidential campaign of Senator Bernie Sanders in favor of Hillary Clinton). After a close and disputed loss to Wasserman Schultz in 2016, Canova challenged her again in 2018. However, lacking party support, he ran against her in the General Election in 2018 as an independent rather than as a Democrat in the primary. Tim provides the details of both races: how he went from media darling to media pariah; how the official vote counts never even remotely aligned with the polls; how subpoenaed ballots were destroyed yet no investigations were ever initiated; and other questionable aspects of how the elections were conducted. This is a “don’t miss” glimpse into what transpires behind the scenes of a high-stakes race and why the ability to verify votes has become so important.

National polls missed the mark in some congressional races like CA-10, where Republican US Rep. Jeff Denham held on to his seat in an extremely tight race. Speaking of polls, it turns out the poll that showed US Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Tim Canova tied was inaccurate, and possibly even a ruse for some GOP insiders. Immigration and Kavanaugh. One issue may have cost the Republicans the House, while the other may have cost 3 Democrats their seats. Wes and Shawn discuss what might have happened on Election Day. In the episode, the three discuss a GOP secretary of state who explicitly called on voters to vote straight-ticket Republican days before the election. Yet as we know, this problem is not one-sided. Meanwhile, the media is obsessed with polling to forecast the imminent “blue wave” or “red wave.” But much like in 2016, pollsters continue to show that they are creatures of habit, and rely on some outdated methods that don’t properly consider the rise in independents. Are they doing it for partisan reasons? Most likely no, but are they still calling some races wrong? And Wes, Chad, and Shawn breakdown the races we are paying close attention to come Election Day, including some that could send shockwaves through the political landscape: Debbie Wasserman Schultz could be neck and neck with independent Tim Canova, threatening her established political career. No Party Preference candidate Steve Poizner is in a strong position to be the first independent elected to statewide office in California history. On today's episode of Loud & Clear, Brian Becker is joined by Brazilian journalist Pepe Escobar to discuss the speech of Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff at her impeachment trial. Dilma struck a combative tone as she addressed the Senate, speaking of proceedings against her as a coup and questioning the rationale for putting her on trial when so many members of the House are implicated in a corruption scandal. Was her speech her last address as President, or can she overcome the slow motion coup against her government? The former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee faces a primary challenge today, but will the DNC email scandal continue to follow Debbie Wasserman Schultz whether she wins or loses? Becker is joined by YahNe Ndgo of Revolt Against Plutocracy to talk about the struggle within the Democratic Party and if the progressive spirit of the Bernie Sanders campaign is to be found in Schutz's challenger Tim Canova. John McCain is embroiled in a bitter primary fight as voters go to the polls in the Republican primary in Arizona today. McCain is hailed in the mainstream press as a moderate, but his record as an extreme war monger suggests otherwise. Becker is joined by Margaret Stevens, who is on the advisory board of Veterans for Peace and a history professor at Essex County College, and by Ben Becker, co-editor of Liberation News.

Recorded August 19, 2016. Hillary Clinton continues to show why the excitement over Bernie "pushing her to the left" and the "most progressive Democratic platform ever" is just empty rhetoric. Clinton chooses ardently pro-TPP, pro-fracking Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar to chair her transition team, which means thousands of appointments will be made by a free-trade, fossil-fuel industry stalwart. Argh.  The debate between Tim Canova and Debbie Wasserman Schultz reveals the truth--Hillary and Debbie were separated at birth. And according to Dr K., both are afflicted with DFS, Donor Fronting Syndrome, and both clearly feel entitled to say anything and do anything to maintain their positions of power. The main problem with a privatized health care system, aka Obamacare, rears its head as Aetna's CEO asserts his authority over the Department of Justice and pulls his company out of most health care exchanges. Perhaps Democrats will tone down their cheering for a system that puts bankers in charge of our healthcare. Our Revolution marches on! Recorded August 7, 2016. THE REVITALIZED AND REINVIGORATED WWBSD PODCAST IS BACK! We've got a new opening and new mission -- and even a SPONSOR!  First, we discuss a Democratic National Convention delegate's testimony and how the party's actions belie calls for "unity" and a move toward a progressive platform. Speaking of actions not matching words, Joe Biden endorses Debbie Wasserman Schultz at a "Whip and Dip" in Florida, calling her a connected and influential party insider while marginalizing progressive opponent Tim Canova as a political lightweight. This is your reborn progressive Democratic Party...in reality just like the old one. Aargh! Say it ain't so, Joe! Hillary Clinton short-circuits, and we have them um, "audio" to prove it! Dr K. always knew her circuitry would become worn. Perhaps this admission by Clinton herself explains her inexplicable behavior. Hopefully her circuits won't fizzle out when she receives that 3:00 AM phone call... Bill Maher and a few of his fellow millionaires shout down Dr. Cornel West when he questions Hillary Clinton's judgment about taking out Gaddafi in Libya. Wait a minute... Are Democrats refusing to condemn the same deceptive tactics once used by George W. Bush to take us to war in Iraq? And why the silence regarding Nobel Peace Prize winner President Obama bombing seven countries without a declaration of war? Gosh, the Muslims who live there are going to get SO angry...  We won't remain silent, and neither should you! Don't allow corporate media and Democrats to suppress the truth in favor of their donors! Let the Democrat establishment know we're out here watching, and when they screw up, let them FEEL THE BERN!! Recorded July 21, 2016. It's not easy bein' green...or getting anyone from that party elected president. Bernie and Jill Stein are close in ideology, but clearly not at all alike in their ability to mobilize the masses. So what should we do? Infiltrate and try to reform a corrupted party, or build a new party from the ground up? Do we abandon Bernie's movement and his delegates who are working so hard for a progressive agenda? And while the world was transfixed by a billionaire model and her plagiarism of the current first lady's words, the US committed an act of terrorism by killing innocents in Syria, a new report told of massive civilian casualties in Iraq over the past several months, and North Korea tested missiles with the potential to hit Guam. None of these stories made the front page or were mentioned by many corporate media outlets. Priorities, anyone?  During the Republican National Convention, nary a word was spoken by party members or the media about their platform. And while it's predictably anti-everyone-but-the-wealthy-and-straight-and-white, we expose the Democrats for being only marginally better in their proposals. And for hiding the truth, just like the GOP.  The Bernie wing of the Democratic party will not die. Support a third party, but don't abandon all hope that with our support, reformers like Nina Turner, Tulsi Gabbard, Tim Canova and others won't transform a party of the multinational corporations into a party of the muticultural people. We help Senator Boxer understand the meaning of "establishment politician" so that next time she looks in a mirror she'll get the punchline.  How many lobbyists can you fit into the Democratic National Convention? As outlined in podcasts 48 and 49 , the Democratic Party is testing the limits, and now Hillary Clinton and Debbie Wasserman Schultz add more with their "progressive" picks for the Platform Writing Committee. President Obama has been backing establishment Congressional candidates like Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Donald Norcross over progressives like Tim Canova and Alex Law. "Doubling down on his feud with the Democratic Party leadership, Senator Bernie Sanders said that if elected president, he will not reappoint Democratic National Committee chairwoman, Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida. He made the comments during an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper that is set to air on Sunday. Mr. Sanders also said he was supporting Tim Canova, a law professor who has begun an insurgent campaign against Ms. Wasserman Schultz for her South Florida congressional seat. They will face off in a primary this summer. “Well, clearly, I favor her opponent,” Mr. Sanders told Mr. Tapper. “His views are much closer to mine.” For months, Mr. Sanders has accused the party of favoring Hillary Clinton, often calling her the “anointed candidate.” He has criticized the party for a debate schedule that his campaign says favors Mrs. Clinton; an arrangement under which Mrs. Clinton raises money for the party; and the appointment of Clinton supporters as leaders of important convention committees. Most recently, he and the party have sparred over what happened at the Nevada Democratic convention a week ago. There, Sanders supporters disrupted the proceedings in a fight over delegates and the state party chairwoman was later threatened. After the party rebuked Mr. Sanders for not clearly condemning what had occurred, his campaign manager, Jeff Weaver, accused Ms. Wasserman Schultz of “throwing shade on the Sanders campaign from the very beginning.” This week, Ms. Wasserman Schultz pushed back against the Sanders campaign in an interview with CNN. “We’ve had the same rules in place that elected Barack Obama,” she told the network. “These rules were adopted for state parties all across the country in 2014.” In a statement on Saturday, she said that “even though Senator Sanders has endorsed my opponent, I remain, as I have been from the beginning, neutral in the presidential Democratic primary.” BIO: Michael Loftus is a writer and comedian who is currently hosts the syndicated show The Flipside with Michael Loftus. Recorded May 19th, 2016. The Democratic Party and the media rush to portray Bernie Sanders and his supporters as violent radicals, but the only violence displayed at the Nevada Convention was the quashing of the democratic process by the Democratic Party itself! Which sounds an awful lot like what the Democratic Party accuses those scary Republicans of. Speaking of Republicans, guess whose lobbyists are "hosting" the Democratic National convention? Last podcast we told how Debbie Wasserman Schultz was rigging the convention against Bernie. Well, Establishment Democrats appear thrilled to have a gaggle of pro-Wall Street, anti-Social Security, Comcast-connected (anti-net neutrality) and Republican-lobbying "hosts" running their convention, again blurring the distinction between the two parties.  And what can you do about "Payday Loan" Debbie Wasserman Schultz?
