Tra gli artisti in mostra: Giovanni Segantini, Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo, Gaetano Previati, Arnold Böcklin, Edward Burne-Jones, Franz von Stuck, Max Klinger, Domenico Morelli, Giulio Aristide Sartorio, Galileo Chini, Luigi Russolo, Leonardo Bistolfi, Adolfo Wildt, Giulio Bargellini, Adolfo De Carolis, Francesco Paolo Michetti, Plinio Nomellini, Emilio Longoni, Ettore Tito, Carlo Fornara, Duilio Cambellotti, Felice Carena, Alberto Martini, Cesare Saccaggi, Libero Andreotti, Ettore Ximenes, Mario De Maria, Mariano Fortuny.Catalogo e apparato scientifico.

For many years, the topic of whether a polarized or pyramidal training intensity distribution is more effective for endurance athletes has been hotly debated. Arturo Casado, PhD, is one of the foremost researchers in this area (and former European Champion in the 1500 metres). Today, Arturo dissects what the science really says in 2026: whether there is a winner, and if not, what are the athlete-specific, event-specific, and other variables that impact which training distribution will bring the best results. We also discuss specific training models from Canova to Norwegian from both scientific and practical perspectives, and bring it all together with practical advice relevant for amateur triathletes and runners. HIGHLIGHTS AND KEY TOPICS: The science and practice of training intensity distributions. Who should use polarized versus pyramidal TIDs and when? How do factors such as athlete level, age and sex, sport or modality, distance or event, periodization and more impact the choice of training intensity distribution? The science and practise of different training models in distance running, including Lydiard, Kenyan, Canova, Norwegian, Coe and more How do best practices differ between amateur athletes and elite runners and triathletes? Matt is joined by Canadian 2:09 marathoner Tom Nobbs, fresh off a huge breakthrough performance at the McCurdy Marathon. Tom ran 2:09 on a low-key, looped course to become the fourth fastest Canadian marathoner of all time and he did 98%+ of the build up on a treadmill! He joins the show to break down the training, racing, and mindset behind the result. Tom explains why the performance was especially meaningful given the unusual lead-in - it was his fourth marathon in around two and a half years, his first back-to-back marathon build since the Marathon Project, and a winter training block completed almost entirely on the treadmill. Tom shares how that treadmill-heavy buildup created a lot of uncertainty around race-day pacing and fitness translation. Once the pacer stepped off early, he was left to run roughly 22 miles alone on a looped course with confusing lap splits, forcing him to rely heavily on feel and effort rather than clean external feedback. That ability to stay composed and trust the work became one of the defining parts of the race. The conversation then turns to Tom's progression from 2:15 to 2:12 to 2:09. Rather than simply piling on more mileage, he credits much of that jump to improved speed, better quality, and specific Canova-style sessions such as 12 x 1K plus 6 x 400, along with frequent strides and faster running around 5K to 3K pace. Matt and Tom discuss how those layers of speed have helped raise his ceiling while still supporting marathon performance. They also get into body weight, fuelling strategy, and how Tom thinks about food through a marathon build, as well as race shoes, including the Puma Fast-R 3. Tom speaks about coaching with Team Run Run, his philosophy around helping athletes improve, and the value of putting bold goals out publicly rather than hiding from them. Later in the episode, they touch on Connor Mantz dropping Boston, the pros and cons of pros racing too often, and Tom's own plans moving forward, which include returning to shorter races on the track and over 10K before deciding on a possible fall marathon.

Today we have The Judy Canova Show from October 19, 1945, brought to you by Colgate-Palmolive. Judy was one of radio's great “hillbilly comedy” stars, backed by a top-notch cast that included Mel Blanc and Verna Felton, and writers like Fred Fox. In this episode, Judy sets her sights on Brentwood high society by entering her decidedly unconventional dog in a fancy dog show. Along the way there are musical numbers, lots of jokes, and those classic ads for Colgate Tooth Powder and Palmolive Soap. Antonio's Canova's statue of the “Three Graces” is considered a benchmark of beauty. It's elegantly erotic representation of the Three Graces huddled in an intimate composition is a fitting final representation of the subject born in the ancient Greco-Roman world and later revived in the Renaissance.
Napoleon's younger sister, Paolina Bonaparte, married Prince Camillo Borghese in 1803. One year later the prince commissioned Antonio Canova to carve his new wife as the mythological goddess of chastity, Diana. The licentious Paolina laughed off the suggestion claiming that no one would be believe her a virgin and chose to be represented scandalously as the semi-nude Venus instead.

A Date With Mickey Rooney
Carved in only a few months between 1800-1801, Canova's “Perseus Triumphant” is one of history's great sculptures. It exists in several versions, the most important of which are in the Vatican and Metropolitan Museums. Clearly inspired by Cellini's earlier version, Canova also depicts the Greek hero as he contemplates his victory over the Gorgon as he stares at her severed head.
In 1802, Napoleon courted Antonio Canova to go to Paris to make a bust of him. Four years later, Canova instead completed an 11ft. (3.5m) free-standing idealized nude statue depicting Napoleon as the Roman god of war, Mars. Surprisingly, Napoleon was not pleased with the sculpture, describing it as “too athletic.”
Carved by Antonio Canova in 1787 and today located in the Louvre Museum in Paris, the Neoclassical sculpture of “Cupid and Psyche” is one of history's most beautiful and popular sculptures. The romantic sculpture depicts Cupid cradling the head of his lover after reviving her from a supernatural slumber, while she reaches up to him preparing to receive a kiss.
Starring the vivacious Judy Canova as herself, this radio program captures the essence of hillbilly humor with a touch of glamour. Each episode is a toe-tapping, knee-slapping adventure, filled with Judy's catchy songs, hilarious skits, and the endearing antics of her fictional family and friends. Whether she's navigating the quirks of rural life or engaging in comical banter with the likes of Mel Blanc and Ruby Dandridge, Judy Canova's comedic timing and musical talent make every episode a treat for the ears. The show's down home charm and infectious energy earned it a special place in the hearts of listeners during its heyday. This episode was originally broadcast October 19th, 1946 on NBC Radio.

Where did Lord Byron and Percy Shelley come to sip coffee while they jotted down their verses? Where did Bizet and Berlioz go to discuss their work? Where could Casanova be found trying to pick up girls? Caffè Greco, where else? Having opened in 1760, Antico Caffè Greco is the oldest café in Rome and the second-oldest in all of Italy! And you can still go there and sit where Hawthorne, Ibsen, Gogol, Goethe, Canova, and many many other literary, art, and musical greats rubbed elbows and drank coffee. On this episode, we visit the famous café, grab some espresso ourselves, and discuss what it feels like to drink coffee in the same place so many brilliant thinkers over the generations did the same. I am so excited to say that my guest on today's podcast is the esteemed curator and writer, Emerson Bowyer. Currently the Searle Curator, Painting and Sculpture of Europe, at the Art Institute of Chicago, Emerson is a specialist in 18th- and 19th-century French and British art. He has worked at New York's Frick Collection, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where his highly-acclaimed curated exhibitions have spanned the spectrum of sculpture, such as 19th century artist Canova to, more recently, the artist we are very excitingly discussing today, the trailblazing, Camille Claudel. …which was staged at the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Getty in LA, as the first major exhibition dedicated to the artist in the US for 35 years. https://www.getty.edu/art/exhibitions/claudel/index.html https://www.artic.edu/exhibitions/9714/camille-claudel Born in France in 1864, Claudel has been hailed for her meticulously rendered and intensely passionate works of mythological and real figures. Hand-carving marble, she defied not just her gender, but the possibilities of sculpture itself – with her intimate and skillful portrayals of human bodies and reworkings of classical tales from a distinctly female perspective. Yet, despite having one of the most extraordinary careers in art history, it took until four decades until after her death, in the 1980s for her work to be properly appreciated, and until now – thanks to people like Emerson – who put her work on the world's stage for all to see.
