In this episode, I cast my eye over a recent article in the UK's Times Newspaper. The two page finding, was at best scare mongering and at worst, ill advised by another columnist with little to zero evidence of the potential damaging effects of young men striving for physical fitness through resistance training, nutrition and supplementation. The USA based social media influencers, whom literally overnight have become tiktok and YouTube sensations with daily uploads of their weight training schedules, eating habits and supplementation, are now followed by millions of young men, aged 12 and upwards, with an interest in improving their physical appearance and performance in the gym or sports fields. The article in question, challenges this phenomena, with notions of body dysmorphia and injuries sustained through poor technique and or underdeveloped physiologies. Whilst this is not impossible, simply down to the sheer amount of participants, the alarming amount of overweight or obese men in the UK and USA far exceeds those with hang ups or short term injuries through weight training. Often, unhealthily overweight men seek others in the 'same boat' as themselves, through design or coincidence and likewise, physically strong, muscular and determined young men do the same, by working out in gyms or at home. TV advertising, newspapers and streaming channels are bombarded with processed food commercials, gambling app promotions and subtle to blatant championing of obesity. This on-going problem is here to stay and as such those with vested interests in promoting unhealthy lifestyles are given free reign to pour scorn on those who take self accountability. Given that there are indecencies of addictions to exercising, dieting and in some cases performance enhancing pharmaceuticals, it's far more likely that young men aged sixteen and upwards who frequent weight training clubs will reap the rewards later in life, avoiding excess body fat storage, musculoskeletal disorders, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and cancer related complications, which are, for those deciding not to embark on resistance based exercise plans, can be an unwanted but inevitable outcome. The Times newspaper have chosen not to ask an experienced male weightlifter, personal trainer or competition bodybuilder, opting for a middle aged woman, with what might initially appear to be a deep rooted concern, but in all probability is based on limited experience, knowledge or proof, regarding the aforementioned 'craze' surrounding, muscle clad influencers. My advice as a professional personal trainer with over 40 years of fitness training is to seek help or simply ask a friend who works in the fitness sector for a few pointers in the right direction, when starting out on your resistance exercise plans and above all take time to learn good form, healthy nutrition and quality sleep. While 9News reported Antifa's version of events verbatim 7News was much more critical. The Campaign Against Racism and Fascism is planning another protest outside the National Socialist Network's (NSN) gym at Sunshine this Saturday.  Victoria Police dropped charges of assaulting an officer against Jimone Roberts when they physically removed him and the NSN from Victoria's Parliament steps at their last rally. The mainstream media outlet that turned up to his recent court appearance instead reported on a speeding offence and driving while unlicensed. Dvir Abramovich of the Anti-Defamation Commission wants the West Australian Electoral Commission to ban Stephen Wells from running for Busselton local council as he describes himself as a “racist, sexist, democracy-scorning whites-lover”. Such a ban would be unconstitutional. Dvir has championed a Federal Court ruling that awarded $430,000 in compensation to five Jewish Brighton Secondary College students for being subjected to anti-Semitic bullying at the school. A joint Channel 4 and Times Newspaper investigation found four women to accuse Russell Brand of sexually assaulting them. Brand is a former sex addict who has slept with thousands of women. He was the darling of the mainstream media employed by Channel 4 and the BBC to host several shows and specials. But because he came out against the covid narrative and vaccines he longer has the protection of the mainstream media. A refund dispute between a Pakistani Hair and Cosmetic store owner and a black woman where she attempted to compensate herself off the shelf in Peckham, London has led to a Black Lives Matter protest outside the store. The BBC is teaching children fake history claiming that black people have been in Britain from the start of time. Yes to the Aboriginal Voice rallies took place across Australia on the weekend featuring musical performances. At the Melbourne Yes rally the Communist Party of Australia was seen marching. No campaigner Jacinta Price told the National Press Club that there is no ongoing negative impact of white colonization only positive. Voice architect Marcia Langton was filmed stating that the no campaign's arguments are either racist or stupid . Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney claimed she has been subjected to racism and bullying during the referendum campaign. Infowars reporter Owen Shroyer received a 60-day jail sentence for covering the events on January 6 outside the Capitol. HIV activists committed an insurrection inside Speaker Kevin McCarthy's office Will they be imprisoned for 20 years like the Proud Boys have? Kevin McCarthy has begun impeachment proceedings against Joe Biden over his role in his son Hunter's corrupt business dealings. An outbreak of the Nipah virus in Southern India which is transmitted via bats has led to media fear reports about it being the next deadly global outbreak. Find out more on our website: https://bit.ly/3pGxdDJ Following the last great recession of 2008 there was a dramatic increase in suicides in North America and Europe: an extra 10,000 people in those regions killed themselves between 2008 and 2010 and the latest estimates from the experts is that the Corona crisis could result in 50,000 extra suicides worldwide. While the media and public health officials pay lip service to the fact the pandemic's most dramatic impact is likely to be on global mental health, there has been woefully little practical advice on how to cope with covid-19. This is partly because for a once in a century event, it is difficult for any field to develop specific coping strategies. However, Consultant Psychiatrist Dr Raj Persaud, author of the new forthcoming book, The Mental Vaccine for Covid-19 - The Streetwise Guide to Coping with Corona, will be discussing practical steps you can take to build resilience and nurture well-being through the various predicaments of the pandemic. Speaker: Dr Raj Persaud is a Consultant Psychiatrist who has worked as a Consultant at the Bethlem Royal and Maudsley NHS Hospitals in London from 1994-2008, and as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, University of London. These are the premiere research and training institutions for Psychiatry in Europe. He was also Research Fellow at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the USA and Institute of Neurology at Queens Square. His training in psychiatry since leaving UCH medical school in1986 was entirely at the Institute of Psychiatry and the Bethlem Royal and Maudsley Hospitals. Unusually for a psychiatrist, he also holds a degree in psychology, obtained with First Class Honours, and 8 other degrees and diplomas including a Masters in Statistics. He was awarded the Royal College of Psychiatrists' Research Prize and Medal as well as The Maudsley Hospital's own Denis Hill Prize, and The Osler Medal. The Royal College of Psychiatrists' recently also awarded him the Morris Markowe Prize. In 2004 he was appointed Visiting Professor for Public Understanding of Psychiatry at Gresham College, and he was asked by the Royal College of Psychiatrists to edit its first book aimed at educating the public on psychology and psychiatry. 'The Mind: A Users Guide' was published in 2007 and reached the top ten best-seller list. All of his 5 previous books have been top ten best-sellers. He has contributed a chapter to the Royal College's latest book - 'The Female Mind - A Users Guide'. His writing is in several established textbooks, including the Oxford Companion to the Mind and he has contributed a chapter in the latest comprehensive textbook of psychiatry for trainees: Psychiatry – An Evidence Based Text. He has approaching 100 publications in Journals such as The British Journal of Psychiatry, British Medical Journal and The Lancet. Recently he was elected Fellow of University College London and the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He is patron or supporter of numerous mental health charities including OCD-UK, The Manic Depression Fellowship, Association of Post-Natal Illness, Childline, ActionAid and The Samaritans. The Independent on Sunday Newspaper conducted a poll amongst members of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Institute of Psychiatry to discover who were the top ten psychiatrists in the UK as rated by fellow psychiatrists. Dr Raj Persaud was the youngest doctor to make it into this esteemed list. The Times Newspaper also recently placed him as one of the Top Twenty Mental Health Gurus in the world.

Strange Stories UK. Canning Town, London Organised Crime and Corrupt police. Part 2. Season 4, Episode 2.This podcast tells how some members of the Snipers gang in Canning Town, evolved into the Canning Town Cartel which was a group of organised crime groups. One of which was the Hunt OCG.The podcast also examines the falling out between David Hunt and Jimmy Holmes which caused the book ‘Judas Pig' to be published.I have been making podcasts for three years, just entering my fourth year. I have now signed up with ko-fi to try to get an income stream to cover my costs.(posting and subscriptions).I intend to make a podcast each month to send to anyone who makes a contribution to my Ko-Fi account (a one off payment, not a monthly contribution). This podcast will not be available elsewhere and will be related to the podcasts that I make that month. This month's podcast will be about the true stories in the book Judas Pig where I try to link up the names with the actual crimes. I have mentioned a few of these in the last couple of podcasts but I will go into more detail and there are a wealth of characters and incidents that Jimmy Holmes wrote about that have not been mentioned yet. So to find out the secrets of Judas Pig (according to my research), my ko-fi link is:https://ko-fi.com/strangestoriesukIf you donate three of your local domination, pounds/dollars/euros, I will send a link for this month's Judas Pig podcast.Since the last podcast, I have had one donation, so thank you very much Judith (I won't say your second name). Sources for this podcast:  The book Legacy by Michael Gillard is the source that keeps giving and I recommend anyone interested in these stories to read it for the whole story. There is a lot of information, primary sources, that has been taken from the internet. The Operation Tiberius Report was a very useful source and for this podcast the transcript of the Hunt v Times Newspaper from the Royal Courts of Justice case no. HQ10D02588. Also many newspaper reports from the Times/Guardian archives have been useful.

Season 4 starts with contemporary Organised Crime in London, there will be four or five linked podcasts on this theme starting with a case that developed in Canning Town, the next few podcasts will flow on from this case including a podcast of the Rettendon aka Essex boys murders. I know this case has been very well covered but  it does tie in with the other podcasts. For this case :  We examine the Canning Town area which suffered from Organised Crime. I keep referring to OCGs which refers to Organised Crime gangs. There were several in the Canning Town area who seemed to work as a cartel and hence were known as the Canning Town Cartel OCG. This story will develop and was inspired by the book ‘Legacy' by Michael Gillard.  The actual recording was done as a thunderstorm took place without any warning, towards the end of the podcast this storm can be heard so apologies for that. This is my fourth year of producing podcasts within a month, I will be producing my one hundredth episode having produced a podcast every 2/3 weeks. Early podcasts were quite amateurish but I think they have improved over time. I have now got a website: www.strangestoriesUK which has a blog introducing each episode. I will be aiming to improve the Facebook and Instagram sites by keeping them up to date with some more information.  I will continue to produce the podcasts in one take without editing as I like to produce the feel of a live radio station. Obviously it is not, but perhaps the closest I can get to it.As with most podcasts, I am trying to get an income stream to fund the hosting costs and the subscriptions I have to pay in order to research some episodes. This will not affect the podcasts being produced and of course there is no obligation to make a contribution although I am thinking of making some sort of reward for anyone that does want to contribute such as extra podcasts. I thought I would make a podcast related to a story being covered. The podcasts go off in so many tangents that I will develop one of these.https://ko-fi.com/strangestoriesukThis is the Ko-fi link. I was looking at Patreon which most podcasters seem to use but having looked into Patreon it seems that it is losing popularity. It is explained that it has taken a lot of Venture Capital funding who are pushing for continuous growth and providing new services to generate increased income. Also Patreon is based on a regular monthly contribution which I think is too much of a commitment.I am going with Ko-Fi but may consider other options if this doesn't work out as there are lots of alternatives and lots of conflicting advice.Regarding the podcast. There is a lot of information, primary sources, that has been taken from the internet. The Operation Tiberius Report was a very useful source and for this podcast the transcript of the Hunt v Times Newspaper from the Royal Courts of Justice case no. HQ10D02588. Also many newspaper reports from the Times archive have been useful. Sorry that I don't give a list of all sources but in the course of producing the podcast I often don't record which book or source I am using. I realise that this is an area that needs improving.I am going to broadcast at least four podcasts related to organised crime stemming from this area and one podcast for Ko-Fi subscribers. I was also thinking of re recording series 1 which some were so ropey that I have taken a couple off line. There are some good stories there that could be updated, this could be another Ko-Fi subscriber inducement. I am not expecting to make any money from these podcasts but if I can cover my costs I would be delighted.

In this podcast Harpo and RJ discuss The Charge of the Light Brigade, known probably as one of the worst blunders in military history. From the William Howard Russell reports to the Times Newspaper, Lord Tennysons famous poem, through to the deep analysis by Harpo, re-think the Battle of Balaklava, which occurred on the 25th October 1854, at 11am, and will forever by synonymous with The Charge of the Light Brigade. Never in the history of British military history will there be a tale of super courage and heroism by the common man, fatally mixed with the foolish arrogance and unprofessional leadership by aristocratic commanders. It has to be heard to be believed. Further reading: Reminiscences of Crimean Campaigning - by R S Farquharson The reason why - by Cecil Woodham-Smith Louis Edward Nolan - by H.Moyse-Bartlett

When I started out, lunch with my old writer Sean would end with ‘Right, let's shift some product'. It was irony, of course. It's rare for creatives talk like that. If you'd have asked me at that time about the performance of one of my ads, I'd have given you a ton of awards data, but nothing on sales. To be fair, awards won are what creatives are salaried on, not units sold. And if you've ever sat on an awards jury you'll know that it's not exactly a scientific process – do the assembled bunch of people like your ad or not? Having won a few awards I started being given more responsibility, meeting the people who paid for the work I was entering; clients. Consequently (if you're a human being) you find you don't want to let your new friends down and, to quote our Prime Minister, ‘Spaff all their money up the wall'. So I became more interested in shifting product. Also, as time moves on you become more aware that it is your actual job. It doesn't mean you start doing dumb, hard-sell, uncreative work; the qualities awards juries look for in work are exactly the same as those needed to get your ads noticed by the public. Simple is better than complicated. Interesting is better than dull. Beauty is better than ugly. Funny is better than worthy. But those are all executional, what does change is the strategy you adopt or the creative route you pick. Because your criteria is to get the uninterested to notice and act. And one thing you find if that's your goal – you become more open to media choices. Suddenly, the most unfashionable channels can appear exciting. Direct Marketing was THE most unfashionable form of advertising. ‘The shit that folds' is how Steve Harrison described the popular view at when he joined the business in '85. He went on to prove that it didn't need to fold or be shit. His DM came in the form of water-coolers, carpet tiles, even a barge on the Thames. Trojan objects that made their way into places that an envelope could never dream of penetrating. Some are like Banksy stunts. Even the stuff that did fold was great. (See the Times Newspaper summons and Court Security pre-opened letter below.) What they have in common is that they're impossible to ignore and they persuade you the product is very good. It sounds so basic, so simple. But name the last ad that made you believe that? I'll wait. One that made you consider, just for a moment, parting with your cash? Still waiting. In his new book ‘Can't Sell, Won't Sell', Steve breaks down why. From the social and economic backgrounds of the people populating agencies to the political beliefs of those awarding them, Steve prosecutes the case that advertising has stopped selling. You may look through the work below, much of it from the ‘90's and noughties and feel that the media landscape is different today. If you do, let me introduce you to Bill Bernbach ‘It took millions of years for man's instincts to develop. It will take millions more to vary. It is fashionable to talk about changing man. A communicator must be concerned with unchanging man, with his obsessive drive to survive, to be admired, to succeed, to love, to take care of his own'. Cheers Bill. (Oh, and next time Bill, it's ‘changing person', not ‘man', it's 2021 FFS!) We had a great chat, hope you enjoy it.

As a columnist, Jerry has always shined a light on society's darkest corners while offering a voice to the voiceless. He has written about every imaginable issue and situation – including the last days of a woman with terminal cancer in a hospice; flying upside down in a U.S. Thunderbirds fighter jet at 9.2 G's; visiting New York City's Ground Zero just days after the terrorist attacks in 2001; witnessing a coroner perform an autopsy; and jumping out of a perfectly fine plane with a recorder in hand. Along the way, Jerry has won more than 50 state or national awards from various journalism organizations while now writing for Chicago Tribune Media. He also writes freelance stories for various magazines while completing four books: “Connections: Everyone Happens for a Reason,” “Lost Gary, Indiana: Rusted Landmarks of the Steel City,” “Crooked Politics of Northwest Indiana” and the history of Andrean High School. On the Reclamation Project today, Julianne chats with Georgia Foster, a clinical hypnotherapist and voice dialogue trainer. She is known as the “Alcohol Reduction Expert” in the UK and Australia. Georgia has written many books and developed a number of online self help programs about self esteem, anxiety, emotional overeating, and drinking.    Georgia has been featured regularly in the media such as Good Housekeeping, Psychologies Magazine, The Times Newspaper, The Morning Show, and more regarding her unique and highly successful approach and is a regular speaker on the power of the mind.    A big topic of today's episode is that things don't have to be black and white. If you're an OG follower of this podcast, you know that it was once called the Excellence Over Perfection podcast. When Julianne discussed perfection, she often referenced the black-and-white perfectionist mindset, and this is something that Georgia applies to drinking - you don't have to go totally sober, but you do have the power to shift the relationship you have with alcohol.   Top takeaways from the episode: Learning to manage your inner critic Holding your own in a drinking society Being aware of the habits your brain forms associated with alcohol Remembering that there's nothing inherently wrong with you A dopamine boost before your first drink is important   Moments: 4:48 - Georgia's journey and inspiration for her work 10:20 - The inner critic drives us to drink 12:30 - We live in a drinking society 14:33 - Our minds work on pure habit 19:09 - Inner critic diary: The disowned self 21:23 - Get the endorphins going 22:32 - The perfectionist: The all-or-nothing drinker 26:00 - The pleaser: Opposite of the perfectionist 30:25 - Hypnosis to unify both conscious and subconscious mind   Quotes:   “A lot of people don't want to talk about it, but I'm saying we need to talk about it because there's nothing wrong with you or this sort of thinking. It's just a bad habit, at the end of the day.   Want to connect with Georgia? www.georgiafoster.com 7 Days to Drink Less: https://www.georgiafoster.com/7daystodrinkless  Emotional Resilience Training: https://www.emotionalresiliencetraining.org/ert    -----------------------------------------   WANT TO BE COACHED ON THE PODCAST? The Bishop of Cornwall (a.k.a. Philip, Bishop of Truro) was commissioned by the UK government to write a report on the persecution of Christians and he opens by quoting a Times Newspaper editorial that says "Across the globe, in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, Christians are being bullied, arrested, jailed, expelled and executed. Christianity is by most calculations the most persecuted religion of modern times. Yet Western politicians until now have been reluctant to speak out in support of Christians in peril."Which is right. Is it? Support the show (https://www.justgiving.com/tncf)
