The situation in Haiti is now an "unprecedented humanitarian crisis" with the "population on the brink of starvation". That's according to the charity ActionAid, which says that nine out of 10 people there now go all day without eating. It also says that 99 percent of all families in Haiti go without meals, sometimes for days at a time. In Perspective, we spoke to ActionAid's Haiti country director Angeline Annesteus from the capital Port-au-Prince.
The Ireland Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) has announced that it is prioritising social good with a partnership with the Irish Emergency Alliance. Established in 2018 and active in 95 of the world's poorest countries, the Irish Emergency Alliance aims to help, save and rebuild the lives of those affected by major emergencies across the globe. As well as a growing alliance - which currently includes ActionAid, Christian Aid, Plan International, Self Help Africa, Tearfund Ireland, Trócaire and World Vision - it has responded to five catastrophic emergencies and raised over €6.75 million. Helping this effort, the Ireland Chapter of PMI encourages its chapters across the world to undertake social good, locally and internationally. It promotes the great work of the Irish Emergency Alliance, provides expert volunteer resources to support its mission, and partakes in fundraising events for the organisation. As part of this, the Irish Emergency Alliance is one of the first charities in Europe to be recognised as part of Project Managers Without Borders (PMWB), a worldwide initiative by PMI which partners project managers with not-for-profit and non-government organisations to affect change and empower communities. The partnership also enables the Irish Emergency Alliance to access volunteers and project managers within the Ireland Chapter of PMI who have domain knowledge in other areas such as finance, IT and marketing. To support the partnership and its own efforts in the area of social good, the Ireland Chapter of PMI has also recently appointed a new Director of Social Good, Carlos Mandolesi. He will be responsible for overseeing its volunteering activities and expanding its charity partnerships. Peter Glynne, President of the Ireland Chapter of PMI, said: "Our aim is to engage people, embrace social good, and elevate the impact of the project management profession - and there is no greater impact than helping those in need. The work that the Irish Emergency Alliance does is nothing short of incredible and it is an honour to be able to get involved in and support what they do. From us donating the proceeds of one of our ticketed events to the Irish Emergency Alliance to them getting involved in our National Project Awards, it's all about collaborating and making a difference together." Brian Casey, Executive Director of the Irish Emergency Alliance, added: "We want to do even more for communities and people whose lives have been devastated by emergencies, be that raising money or having people on the ground. As a small membership organisation, we can only do that with the help of our partners, including the Ireland Chapter of PMI. By tapping into the enormous potential that a shared response unleashes, we have been able to - and hope to continue to - react with agility, work with agencies, and provide much-needed emergency support." SummaryWhat does it Busara's tagline mean: 'transformational leadership, from the inside out'?To what extent are there truly different global south-normed leadership models?Does personality still play an important role as well, in addition to national or regional cultural differences in leadership approaches? In this NGO Soul+Strategy podcast episode, I interview Taaka Awori, Founder & CEO of Busara Africa, a leadership development services company, on redefining leadership in Africa. The executive director of ACTIONAid Australia, Ms Michelle Higelin, spoke to us about the 'Seizing the Moment' report that ACTIONAid and partner organisations like the Pacific Islands Climate Action Network produced, arguing for a New Collective Quantified Goal in funding assistance to countries in the Pacific that are negatively impacted by climate change.
Welcome to Hot Topics! In this episode, Gabrielle Crichlow engages in a thought-provoking conversation with Sameer Dossani, a returning guest who shares his personal journey of transitioning from a vegan lifestyle to embracing an animal-based diet. They delve into the motivations behind Sameer's decision, exploring how this shift has positively impacted his overall well-being.Sameer opens up about his experience of transitioning from a vegan diet to incorporating animal foods into his own eating habits. He sheds light on the various factors that influenced his decision, including extensive research on health and nutrition, as well as eye-opening interactions with farming communities that challenged his long-held beliefs about vegetarianism.Drawing from his own experiences, Sameer presents compelling arguments suggesting that humans are naturally omnivores and raises concerns about the potential presence of anti-nutrients in plant foods that could have detrimental effects on the body. Moreover, he highlights existing evidence supporting the effectiveness of meat-based diets in reversing chronic diseases, such as diabetes. However, Sameer is careful to emphasize that as a health coach, he adopts a client-led approach, respecting individual preferences and only recommending the introduction of animal foods for clients seeking to address specific health concerns like autoimmune diseases, hormone imbalances, or overall health improvement. This podcast episode challenges the prevailing belief that a plant-based diet is always the healthiest option, offering listeners an alternative perspective on the role of animal foods in achieving optimal health and wellness. It provides valuable insights into different dietary approaches and their potential effects on digestion and overall well-being. Throughout their conversation, Sameer and Gabrielle also shed light on the potential limitations of plant-based diets and emphasize the importance of protein in the healing process and maintaining muscle mass, particularly as individuals age.Above all, this discussion encourages individuals to prioritize their health while finding a sustainable approach to diet that aligns with their unique needs and values. It emphasizes the significance of considering different perspectives and seeking guidance from health coaches or professionals when making dietary choices.Who is Sameer Dossani?Sameer Dossani is a certified health and nutrition coach focusing on preventing and reversing chronic disease. Traumatic vision has emerged showing the aftermath of recent Israeli airstrikes on a makeshift tent city in Rafah, in the south of Gaza, that reportedly killed 45 people, with 249 others wounded. Aid groups have said the Israeli Defence Force had designated the area a humanitarian safe zone before launching the attack – although Israel denies this. The International Court of Justice has ordered Israel to “immediately halt its military offensive” in Rafah, but in ambiguous terms, which the Israeli Government has interpreted to mean its Rafah offensive can continue. Meanwhile, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has applied for arrest warrants for Netanyahu, the Israeli defence minister, and three Hamas leaders for war crimes and crimes against humanity. In this episode, Bension Siebert speaks with international law expert, Juliette McIntyre, and Frankie Leach, spokesperson for humanitarian organisation ActionAid. It's Monday, April 29th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Nigerian Muslims kill 3 Christians in Benue State Fulani Muslim herdsmen killed three Christians last week in Benue State, Nigeria, reports Morning Star News. Alfred Omakwu, a local city councilman, said the herdsmen killed one Christian on April 20th in Otukpo County, after killing two other believers on April 18th in the Entepka District. Andrew Mamedu, country director of Action Aid, an international humanitarian organization, said that the incessant attacks on Christians in Benue State, Nigeria have displaced 1.4 million people. He said, “With what is happening in Benue state, people may not have villages to retire to when they grow old. If we fail to act now, I am afraid that by 2030 we would have lost a generation, and it may take 50 years to recover from it.” According to Open Doors, Nigeria is the sixth most dangerous country worldwide in which to be a Christian. Stabbed Orthodox bishop denounces Australian censorship Assyrian Orthodox Bishop Mar Emmanuel, who was stabbed whle preaching on April 15th in Sydney Australia by a 15-year-old Muslim young man who yelled “Allah Akbar,” has joined his voice with Elon Musk in demanding that the video of the attack be kept online, reports LifeSiteNews.com. On April 22, an Australian federal court ordered X, formerly Twitter, to remove all posts that contained the viral video of the Islamic attack on the Orthodox bishop, granting the request of Australia eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant, who had demanded that the video be taken down worldwide. On Wednesday, the injunction against showing the video was extended by Justice Geoffrey Kennett until May 10 when a final hearing will be held to determine whether the content can be prohibited permanently worldwide. Musk has taken issue with the injunction, although following it temporarily. According to the tech giant, the Australian regulator had demanded that X “globally withhold these posts or face a daily fine of $785,000.” On Tuesday, Musk addressed the overreach of the Australian government and claims that the video was somehow “misinformation.” He said, “The Australian people want the truth. X is the only one standing up for their rights. Our concern is that if ANY country is allowed to censor content for ALL countries, which is what the Australian ‘eSafety Commissar' is demanding, then what is to stop any country from controlling the entire internet? We have already censored the content in question for Australia, pending legal appeal, and it is stored only on servers in the USA.” Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski said he “stands united” with Musk and X in the fight against the Australian censorship of the video. Biden poked fun at Trump Appearing at the White House Correspondents' Dinner at the Washington Hilton on Saturday, President Joe Biden addressed his age and made Donald Trump, his Republican presidential opponent, the target of a number of his jokes, reports CNN. BIDEN: “The 2024 election is in full swing. And yes, age is an issue. I'm a grown man running against the six-year-old. “I really feel great. I'm campaigning all over the country, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina. I've always done well in the original 13 colonies. “Age is the only thing we have in common. My Vice President actually endorses me.” (cheers) Saturday Night Live comedian roasted Biden and media Colin Jost, the co-host of “Weekend Update” on NBC's Saturday Night Live and the headliner for the event, took aim at President Biden in a couple of his jokes. JOST: “I was excited to be up here on stage with President Biden tonight, mostly to see if I could figure out where Obama was pulling the strings from. (laughter) “I have to admit it's not easy following President Biden. I mean, it's not always easy following what he's saying, like. (laughter) “My Weekend Update co-anchor, Michael Che, was going to join me here tonight. But, in solidarity with President Biden, I decided to lose all my Black support.” (laughs and jeers) And Jost made fun of the White House correspondents, most of whom seem more committed to liberal ideology than a balanced pursuit of the truth. JOST: “Like many of you here tonight, I pretend to do news on TV.” (laughter and jeers) Pro-Life Democrat runs ‘graphic' abortion ad during ‘Today' show Last Wednesday, a pro-life Democrat running for president aired an eye-opening ad on national television exposing NBC's “Today” show viewers to the horrors of late-term abortion. Terrisa Bukovinac, president and founder of Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising, confirmed Wednesday via X that her ad, which included disturbing footage of late-term aborted infants, aired on NBC, reaching seven million people. (You can see it for yourself through a special link in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com.) Listen to the audio. BUKOVINAC: “I'm a secular progressive activist. Last year, I recovered the remains of these five babies from an all-term abortion center in Washington, DC. These are the faces of a genocide supported by Joe Biden and my own Democratic Party. “We can provide for the working class and resist this extremism. I am challenging you to never vote for a pro-choice Democrat again. I'm Terrisa Bukovinac, pro-life Democrat running for President of the United States. And I approved this message.” Psalm 127:3 says, “Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from Him.” Bukovanic, a self-described atheist, told The Christian Post that she never intended to win the Democratic presidential nomination. Rather, she launched her long-shot bid so she would have a platform to expose the evils of abortion to her fellow liberals. Comedian Russel Brand got baptized And finally, actor and comedian Russell Brand announced on April 26th that he planned to get baptized as a Christian on April 29th, reports Fox News Digital. BRAND: “This Sunday, I'm taking the plunge. I'm getting baptized, an opportunity to leave the past behind and be reborn in Christ's name, like it says in Galatians. “I know a lot of people are sort of cynical about the increasing interest in Christianity, and the return to God. But, to me, it's obvious. As meaning deteriorates in the modern world, as our value systems and institutions crumble, all of us become increasingly aware that there is this eerily familiar awakening and beckoning figure that we've all known all of our lives. … For me, it's very exciting.” Galatians 3:26 says, “So, in Christ Jesus, you are all children of God through faith.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Monday, April 29th in the year of our Lord 2024. On this week's podcast, episode 233, we are talking about what we learned from fairly shocking Britney Spears' new autobiography The Woman In Me.Nialler and Andrea Cleary are joined by pop culture writer and DJ Louise Bruton to discuss the chilling details that Britney Spears reveals about her career and private life. That includes her treatment by the media, fame-hungry exes Justin Timblerake and Kevin Federline, the conservatorship, and the ultra-overbearing toxic role that her parents held over her for 13 years where they controlled what she ate, where she was allowed to live, how she performed and all manner of abuse-like behaviour including putting her in a mental health institute for taking energy supplements or refusing to do a dance move.Britney was denied her own lawyer for 13 years but finally broke free of the conservatorship to regain control of her own life finally. It's a miracle that Britney is even alive after the harrowing experiences of what she's lived through, and what her family put her through.Louise and Pop Emergencies are presenting their annual Britmas at Wigwam in Dublin on Friday December 15th, in support of ActionAid's Gaza Crisis Appeal.Special thanks to Georgia Hallion for editing this episode.* Support Nialler9 on Patreon, get event discounts, playlists, ad-free episodes & join our Discord communityListen on Apple | Android | ACAST | Patreon | Pocketcasts | CastBox | Stitcher | Spotify | RSS FeedShow notesSongs played on the Nialler9 Podcast Spotify Playlist #FreeBritney: The Framing Britney Spears Documentary with Louise Bruton. It is nearly two weeks since Israel launched its ground offensive into Gaza and more than a month since it began intensive air strikes against Hamas, following the brutal attacks in Israel in which more than 1,400 people were killed. ActionAid is one of the many charities responding to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and its UK CEO Halima Begum is urging countries that finding a humanitarian solution is paramount, with thousands of civilians dead and the majority of Gaza's 2.3 million residents having been displaced. Today on Ways to Change the World, Halima Begum tells Krishnan Guru-Murthy about her journey from youth activism to NGO work, the West's ‘moral responsibility' to humanitarian aid and the need for an immediate ceasefire in the Israel-Palestine war.
