Lukas ist ein perfekter Gesprächspartner für dieses Thema, weil er sowohl in der Spitzenforschung tätig war als auch in der industriellen Praxis mit diesen Themen beschäftigt ist. Diese Mischung scheint mir bei komplexen technischen Fragestellungen und Problemen sehr nützlich zu sein. Lukas hat nach seinem Studium der Informatik eine Promotion im Spezialgebiet Computational Science gemacht. Anschließend war er mehrere Jahre in der universitären Forschung im Bereich der mathematischen Bild- und Datenanalyse tätig, zuletzt an der Universität Cambridge. Seine Arbeit hat Anwendungen in der medizinischen Bildgebung, in der Molekular- und Zellbiologie, und in der Computer Vision. Derzeit leitet er den Geschäftsbereich »Data Science and AI« eines Spin-Offs des internationalen Industriekonzerns Voestalpine. Sein Team arbeitet an der Umsetzung von Daten-Projekten in der Erzeugung und Verarbeitung von Spezialmetallen, und am Aufbau eines globalen Data Science Programms für die Produktionsstandorte. Wir haben dieses umfangreiche Thema in zwei Episoden aufgeteilt: In der ersten Episode beginnen wir das Thema Data Science einzuführen, auch anhand einiger Beispiele, beginnend mit historischen Beispielen sowie Anwendungsfällen der heutigen Zeit. This week we're reviewing Monsters, Inc., Pixar's fourth movie. While at first glance this has a simple good guy / bad guy vibe, it ends up being rather deep with some fun corporate espionage (who would have thought those words would end up together?) Like most other Pixar movies the characters are very well written and the voice actors give them so much emotion that it is easy to fall in love with them and enjoy your time in their lives. Some of the ideas that this move puts forward are these: * Tyrrany and Evil are worth fighting against. * Life is precious, not just those that look and act like you. * Cruelty is never justifiable. You go without if you must to avoid being cruel. Overall we decided that this movie is an outstanding movie for kids (so long as they can handle some monsters and jump scares), as it provides some very worthwile ideas, has true character growth, and strong bonds of friendship.

This week we're reviewing A Bug's Life, Pixar's second movie. Unlike Pixar's first movie Toy Story, A Bug's Life is a very simple and straightforward story with very few twists and turns. The characters are all very relatable and well written, and even the big bad guy, Hopper, ends up being very well fleshed out with story appropriate justifications for their actions. Some of the ideas that this move puts forward are these: * Tyrrany is worth fighting against. This can include standing up against a bully at school, a boss who is doing bad things, or a government that is overstepping its bounds. * Thinking outside the box is good, but finding out how to implement those ideas is even better. * Lying to those you care about is bad and causes trouble. Overall we decided that this movie is an outstanding kids movie that puts forward great ideas, gives us wonderful protagonists to root for, and is just a fun movie to watch.

Heute werden wir einmal die bekannten Pfade des Pen & Paper verlassen und uns auf einen inzwischen zur Hauptstraße ausgebauten Seitenpfad begeben: PC-Rollenspiele! Genauer: Baldur's Gate, welches bekanntermaßen die D&D Regeln verwendet. Mit einem die Götter einschüchternden Knall wurde 2019 Baldur's Gate 3 vorgestellt. Fast 20 Jahre nach dem Vorgänger. Aber das neue Kind hat einige Pferdefüße. Und nein, unsere Kritik ist nicht die übliche, die ihr vielleicht bisher so in den Kommentarspalten gelesen habt.
