On this episode of Dude Therapist, host Eli Weinstein interviews Ricky Williams, a former NFL running back and CEO of several companies. Ricky talks about his journey of overcoming adversity and finding inner peace and how his early religious upbringing and experience as an athlete helped him to recognize the opposition within himself and to take on the challenge of overcoming it. He encourages people to be curious about their own potential and to be kind to themselves and others and emphasizes the importance of choosing the right people to keep close for your healing journey towards balanced living. [00:00:06] Ricky Williams: Football, Cannabis, Healing, Empowerment. [00:01:54] Ricky Williams: Football to Mental Health. [00:04:00] Pursuing excellence to avoid personal issues. [00:05:48] Face dragon, overcome fear, be authentic. [00:08:11] Spiritual crisis leads to religious beliefs. [00:09:48] Facing life's difficulties to become better. [00:12:05] Combat mental health resistance: Warrior mentality, courage, vulnerability. [00:14:08] Overcome dragon, create inspiring stories. [00:16:22] Faith, stories, transformation, purpose, connection, success. [00:17:41] Athlete's journey to inner peace. [00:19:38] Finding inner peace: Know yourself, grow. [00:21:39] Common wound of man: Unmet needs, relationships, choices. [00:24:11] Healing through understanding patriarchy. [00:26:14] Healing through self-discovery. [00:28:08] Explore potential, be kind. Ricky Williams has devoted his personal life and professional career to inspiring greatness, whether in himself, his teammates, or those around him. Williams founded Highsman in 2021 to empower professional and everyday athletes as well as sports enthusiasts alike through cannabis. He brings a deep knowledge of herbs, sports and wellness to the brand. His belief in the healing properties of cannabis is intertwined with a distinguished football career, and he credits smoking herb as a way of coping with the challenges associated with being a professional athlete, from social anxiety to physical injuries. His widely acclaimed football career began at the University of Texas at Austin, where he was named a two-time All American. Shortly after, he was drafted by the New Orleans Saints and continued an illustrious football career, known as one of the most electric running backs of the century. Most notably he played with the Miami Dolphins for the span of seven seasons. He faced two suspensions during his tenure due to the NFL's strict marijuana policy. He finished his career with over 10,000 rushing yards and 74 total touchdowns and retired in 2011 after playing his final season with the Baltimore Ravens. Williams was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2015. No longer burdened by the NFL's marijuana policy after retirement, Williams began his professional journey into herb and wellness. In 2018 he co founded Real Wellness, an alternative health brand after studying Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine. This, along with his personal exploration of cannabis, paved the way for the launch of Highsman. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedudetherapist/support

My teammate joins this week in the Huddle. Ricky Williams is a gentle soul that was misunderstood by many for years in the NFL. After winning the Heisman and every other award while at the University of Texas, the expectations placed on him were unrealistic for many, but not Ricky. He expected to be great, and talking with him about his journey was incredible. Growing up in San Diego, he became a star on the diamond and the football field. He was drafted by the Phillies and played in their farm system while in college. Although he has a deep love for baseball, he excelled on the football field. While at Texas, he was a two-time All-American and won the Heisman trophy. He loved Texas because he said it felt like a family. Ricky was drafted by New Orleans, who traded all their draft picks that year to move up and get him. New Orleans is the only team in NFL history to draft one player in an NFL draft. This is why expectations were so high. He lasted 3 years in New Orleans before being traded to Miami. While in Miami, his Lifes calling was just beginning. He retired, played in the CFL for Toronto, and then played for the Dolphins again. He finished his 11-year career with Baltimore Ravens. Ricky was still finding out who he was. He started coaching and became an ESPN analyst for the Longhorn Network. He was in a few reality shows, Celebrity Apprentice and Celebrity Big Brother. Ricky followed his heart to alternative medicine and healing through all of this. He is now an astrologer, owns a wellness company called Real Wellness, and created a new app to use astrology to match people using their astrological signs. He also has his own podcast called Curious Questions, where he interviews his guests about their lives and interest using their astrological signs. Throughout history, women have had to ask—and answer—the same personality-defining question, just with shifting mentors throughout time. Were you a Beatles or a Rolling Stones girl? Were you a Miranda, Carrie, Samantha, or Charlotte? And in the early-2000’s, fans caught up in the craze of Laguna Beach would ask “Are you an Elsie, an Audrina, a Kristin, or a Lo?” Lo, or Lauren Bosworth, was cool, collected, confident, and wise beyond her years. After growing up in the spotlight, it’s fascinating to find out what she’s up to in 2020. She’s moved on from her career in television to focus on building a modern feminine care brand from the ground up after she began to experience chronic health issues that she couldn’t fix with traditional drug store offerings. She found relief through a holistic approach and ultimately made it her mission to share the information she had learned with women everywhere. Every hotel is focussing on making their property COVID-Safe right now. That's the absolute minimum requirement. It certainly doesn't give you any meaningful USP. However, if a hotel can succeed in offering real Wellness throughout the property, that can indeed become a USP. A number of companies over recent years have tried their version of a Wellness hotel room. Most haven't really done a great job. SPOILER ALERT - I happen to know of one company planning to launch a new Wellness hotel room concept in just a few weeks. I've seen it. It looks really promising. As soon as they launch, I'll be sure to let you know. #wellness #hotels #USP

Throughout his career as a professional athlete, Ricky Williams was often criticized for his belief in the healing power of cannabis. In recent years, as plant-based medicine has become more of an integral part of our culture, Ricky is now viewed as a leading visionary in the movement toward a cannabis-based approach to wellness. Ricky is also becoming more well-known for his work as a holistic healer, a journey that began nearly 15 years ago after his first retirement from the NFL. Ricky has immersed himself in the study of evolutionary astrology as well as other healing modalities including Ayurvedic medicine, cranial sacral therapy, meditation, pranic healing and yoga. Ricky is currently pursuing his doctorate in Chinese medicine and continues to help clients around the world gain a deeper understanding of their lives through his evolutionary astrology practice. Ricky received his Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Texas.Prior to becoming RW’s chief executive officer, Linnea maintained a nearly 15-year corporate and commercial real estate career at the global law firms of DLA Piper and Seyfarth Shaw. In recent years, it was her personal and professional partnerships with Ricky that guided her to her life’s mission: to facilitate and amplify consciousness and care for herself and others. While acting as Ricky’s business manager, Linnea was introduced to the inner workings of the multi-faceted wellness industry, which the modern cannabis movement is a significant part of. Through these experiences as well as hearing people’s diverse stories, she discovered the subtle yet powerful ways in which conscious cannabis use can enhance and optimize — in a multitude of ways — one’s sense of well-being and connection to his or her authentic self. For the past few years, Linnea and Ricky have been preparing herbal remedies for their loved ones with the goal of awakening and engaging the inner physician in all of us. Along with these herbal remedies, they provided education on usage as well as complementary holistic healing techniques. What began as an intimate passion project is now being carried into the greater public domain through RW’s thoughtfully curated product assortment. Linnea received her B.A. in Public Policy from Duke University and her J.D. from Vanderbilt University.

An interesting article in the Huffington Post recently suggests that Essential Oils are Essentially Useless. Writer, Julie Ries, states that according to experts, there's just not enough scientific data to prove the benefits of Essential Oils. After a quick look at some of the data out there at Association for Holistic Aromatherapy and the Global Wellness Institute's Wellness Evidence portal, suggests Ries may just have a point. ...not about them being Essentially Useless, but about there not being a lot of evidence. Yet despite this, the Spa & Wellness World has jumped into Essential Oils feet first. Have we jumped too early? What are the similarities between our adoption of Essential Oils and the wave of CDB that is sweeping the Wonderful World of Wellness? #essentialoils #wellness #CBD

Yes, you may know Ricky Williams as a Heisman Trophy-winning running back at the University of Texas in 1998 and the 5th overall pick in the 1999 NFL draft by Mike Ditka and the New Orleans Saints. What you may not know is the true story of Ricky Williams, as we take off the helmet and get the authentic version of this fascinating human. In this invigorating episode, Ricky talks about seeking the best version of ourselves and always improving. He may have pursued this avenue in a unique way, but it has been an inspirational path as he found his life's purpose after he retired from football. I'm with my fantastic friend Alexa Schirm from Simple Roots Wellness today talking about how to eat healthy without it stealing our joy, how to get our bodies to burn fat and not just sugar, balancing our hormones, and what the deal is with intermittent fasting. In this episode we discuss: How to eat healthy and not make ourselves miserable in the process How to make your body burn fat instead of just sugar How to change your food cravings Why is everyone drinking bone broth and what's the real deal with intermittent fasting How to balance your hormones Favorite quotes- If you can change your fuel source, then you can change your cravings. As long as you continue to try to do something you don't enjoy, you obviously will never do it. I am on a mission to end the confusion, because there is so much confusion and overwhelm in the health world. So how can we just break it down and actually figure out ways to make this realistic in your life so you will do it? I like to get out of the all-or-nothing mindset because there is a lot of triggers when it comes to that and a lot of people trigger past and previous trauma with food. Bonus: After the interview join me as I answer your questions about life, faith, and business. In this episode, I answer these questions- 1. Do you sleep? Seriously! How do you get so much done? Tell me your secrets.(35:17) 2. As Christians, is drinking alcohol ok? (39:35) 3. I have an idea for a book. How do I know if I have a good idea? I am overjoyed to bring you this interview today with Kelly Coffey. ACSM-certified personal trainer Kelly Coffey began dieting at age 5, and she was over 300 pounds by the time she was 18 years old. In her 20s, Coffey opted to have weight loss surgery. She lost 150+ pounds, and immediately started to gain it back, sailing back over 200 pounds. Demoralized and out of options, Coffey was forced to look at herself, her beliefs, and her behaviors in a whole new way. The principles Coffey has since lived by are the cornerstone of her work with women of all shapes and sizes all over the globe. Kelly is real, she is hilarious, she is totally un-pretentious, and she is a POWERHOUSE OF LIGHT! I am so thrilled that she accepted my invitation to come on the show!! In this episode: * Shame * The importance of radical acceptance to the emotional experiences we are having in the moment. * The key importance of our relationship with our many feelings. * Why we need to have direct personal experiences to change our lives.
