And this big monster that we're going to talk about today is called mom guilt. I know all of you guys have had this monster in your house. Welcome back to episode 36. And today we are going to talk about it. We're going to talk about this big monster, and we're going to take this thing down. And this big monster that we're going to talk about today is called mom guilt. I know all of you guys have had this monster in your house. We're about to take this mom guilt monster down like David took down Goliath. Are you ready? Let's go. Hey, welcome back ladies. And we're going to talk about this big monster that I know a hundred percent of you guys who have kids deal with probably on a daily basis, if not multiple times. And it is the monster giant called mom guilt. I said it we're going to take them down. Like David took down Goliath because it is time to stop the madness and slay that giant. Okay. Number one, mom, guilt. What is it? It is basically when you feel guilty for doing things other than being a mom when you go to work, when you start your business, when you try to do self care, when you try to go to the bathroom for the love of God, with the door closed this mom guilt. And not only that, that you kind of put this on yourself, but it comes from expectations from society. Maybe it comes from your mother-in-law. Maybe it comes from your mom. Maybe it comes from your sister. Maybe it comes from your best friend. Maybe it comes from your church. You know, everybody's got an opinion on what kind of mom you should be and what you should and should not be doing. Maybe it's all their opinions about whether you should breastfeed or not breastfeed, or whether you're teaching your kids sign language, or whether you are putting your kid in an extra tutoring class or allowing your kid to be in gymnastics and cheerleading and soccer and baseball and all of these things. You know, whether you are going to every sports event that your kid has, there are so many things that cause this monster mom guilt in for me, a lot of it is related to my work for a very, very long time. Most of my kids' lives. Actually all of my kids' lives until June, until I just dropped Clayton off to college. My career essentially came first. I spent double the amount of time on my career and businesses that I then I did at home with my kids. It didn't mean I wasn't a mom. It just meant that a lot of my time was away from my kids. So yes, my kids were in daycare for for most of their lives. So it is so real, this guilt that we feel is so real, it's overwhelming, it's stressful. It's a lie that we believe. And we're going to talk about how to slay that thing today. Okay. So, you know, there are some things that you might feel a twinge of guilt for that is valid, and that should make you stop and think about the ramifications of what it is. For example, if you are using extremely harsh words or yelling a lot, like I, you know, I am very passionate as you can probably tell three people that know me, especially people that I've worked with, just know that I get very passionate. My voice gets really loud and Ammonite it animated. And I use my hands a lot and I move a lot. And so they're like, you know, calm down, you know, and sometimes it can be misperceived as that I'm angry or something like that. But sometimes it's just that I'm just passionate about something and it's just the way I express myself. But I also, on the other hand am a yeller. I did a lot of yelling, especially once my second one came around, I had Clayton. And then of course, you know, he, that was easy for the first four years. I was by myself where he was by himself. And so it was, it was quite frankly easy, easier. And then when the second one came and then certainly when the third one came you know, I have all boys and the two little ones just fought and wrestled and listen, I'm all about that boy life. But what people, you know, sometimes don't tell you about kids or, you know, all of the things that, you know, we pray and we're thankful for our kids and stuff, but we all have those things that like, you know, the blowout diarrhea all the way up the back while you're trying to get out of the house. And then you got two kids that just knocked the lamp off the table and the dog that threw up on the floor all at once when you're trying to get out and get them to school on time so that you can get to work on time. You know, people don't really talk about that part of motherhood, but the way that I responded to that is sometimes I yelled a lot and it was, it's not, it was something I felt guilty about. And so that guilt is not necessarily to condemn myself and not forgive myself, but it is purposeful. It is, I guess there is a, a worthiness to that guilt because that isn't the best way to be yelling all the time at my kids. That's not the best way they think I'm critical. They think, you know, it, they just grow up thinking that I, they can never do anything. Right. And then I'm always going to yell and I'm never going to be happy and I'm never going to laugh and they're going to have fun, all those things. And so sometimes that guilt is there in it, but it gives you an opportunity to step back and do some self-awareness and some self-assessment to say, okay, what can I do differently? Okay. But most of the other guilt that we're talking about, the things that are related to expectations from everyone else, and then the own expectations you are putting on yourself, because you have some grand idea of what a great mother looks like, and you're not meeting up to that. But if you're thinking about the Brady bunch, you know, and I don't know some other Suzy homemaker person that does all of these perfect little things and puts notes in the, in the lunch boxes with the cute little, you know, Mickey mouse shaped sandwiches and, and heart cantaloupes. And, you know, come on, give me, give me a break at that. Number one is not me. And quite frankly, I feel no guilt for not doing that. Now I, I have in done the little notes in the lunchbox, but you all want to know the straight truth is that when my kids were going to school and they were taking their lunch, Dwayne, my husband made their lunches. I, I can't remember the last time I made my kids' lunch. Okay. It just is what it is. And you know what, I'm okay with that. I don't feel guilty about that anymore. But the point is is that there are so many things that we feel guilty about, and especially when it comes to work. So let's just talk about a few things that might be making you feel a little guilty. Number one, how many of you guys sometimes get a little annoyed with her kids? I, how many of you guys sometimes get annoyed with the nonstop talking or the look at me, look at me. Look at me. Look at me, look at me, look at me and then look at me again. And that's awesome. You've done the same thing a million times over now. I love the stuff out of my kids. Okay. But let's just be honest. If you've ever been annoyed by one of your kids, I want you to, you know, raise your finger, raise your hand. Or if you're in the car with your kids right now, maybe this is an episode you should listen to later, but I probably should have given that Kathy in the beginning, but it's just life. It is what it is sometimes, you know, on episode 35, I think I just talked about the mood elevator. Sometimes you're in the red, on your mood elevator. You're way, way low. And you're on that impatient and frustrated, or maybe you're a little angry and hostile and you just aren't in the mood for that right then. And sometimes we give ourselves a lot of guilt for that. Well, I want you to know that it's okay to sometimes not feel like answering that question that they've asked a million times already. Okay. It's okay. Something else. Let's talk about being a little bored here. Here's the truth. I love working in my career. I love running a business. I love feeling that sense of accomplishment. I also love when my kids you know, get a blue ribbon at the swim meet or when my kids get honor roll. I love those things because it makes me feel like I've done something to help that my kid earned that. So I feel a sense of accomplishment for both things. And it's okay. If you focus on your career and being a mom at the same time, it's okay. It's okay. If you actually enjoy your career more than reading goodnight moon. Okay. It's okay. There's no reason to beat yourself up about these things. Big thing I want to talk about is it's okay to redefine what you feel like successes in being a mom. It's okay to redefine those. If you have not sat down to really think about what is it to be successful as a mom? What, what would I feel good at the end of the day or at the end in 20 years when my kids are all grown up, what would make me feel good as if I have succeeded as a mom? What are those things? And then it doesn't seem like such a big deal that you didn't do that extra game of Play-Doh today. We talk, it's a balance, right? You have 15 minutes of dedicated time with your kiddo and you play a game with them, or you read a book or you go to a soccer game or you go watch them on the trampoline, whatever it is you're doing, that's dedicated time that you're spending time, but it's not going to break, make or break. If you don't spend the extra hour making a Play-Doh castle, it's just not, it's not going to in the end of 20 years, it's not going to make or break whether or not you were successful as a mom. So I just want you to stop beating yourself up. It's it's our kids are going to be okay. The number one thing is that if we have given our kids to God and we've given our faith and trust in God that he is going to cover us and stand in the gaps where we have not done everything we could have, or we failed in certain things, or we yelled one too many times. I think about my childhood growing up and my mom and dad best that they could, but they were perfect and they may mistakes. I ended up okay. And my kids are going to end up. Okay, too. So it's okay. My mom worked, my dad worked we, we were home alone a lot and we turned out fine. It's just a lie to think that your focus on your career or your focus on instead of doing a Play-Doh castle, you are going to finish this report, or you're going to make this one phone call. It's just in the grand scheme of things in 20 years, when your kid is out, all grown up, think about what it is that you would want to know about your kid to feel successful. And then just backtrack from there, just focus on small things. We've talked about this in the whole relationship, part of our pie, where we're talking about parenting, we've talked about, you know, time blocking, where we just schedule in 15 minutes, a day or an hour, a day, or whatever it is that you feel comfortable with, you makes you feel good that you have spent with your kid. You've taken that intentional time to let your kid know that you're there from the, for them. And that they're important to you and that kind of thing. So just be intentional about those things. Okay? The other thing is to reach out for help. Listen, we need that village. It takes a village to raise a child. We've talked about this. You need your village. You need your village. People reach out for help. I, a hundred percent promise you that somebody, you know, is feeling the same way you are about that next diarrhea. Blow out that went up through the baby's or that last ER trip, because your kid jumped off the couch yet, again, thinking he was Superman or that time you went to the ER, and then the guys at the ER, actually had a social worker come in and talk to you because this is the third ER trip, because your kid continues to jump off the top of the playground at the school. Yeah, that's true. My little Clayton who now he'll be 19 in July. He jumped off the top of the playground at daycare three times, he had to deuce eggs in two weeks on his head, same, same place. And he ended up with a stretcher fracture in his leg because he was jumping off the playground. So I had to have a conversation because stress fractures in legs are not normal. Now of course there were lots of witnesses and they all, you know, settle that. And it wasn't a big deal. Other than you know, that there are no nurses and doctors are doing their job in, in the ER, but for the love of God, you end up in the ER, three times because your kid keeps jumping off the playground at school. You're not there. What are you going to do? I, you know, I felt guilty yeah. About it. And I felt like horrible about it because I was at work, but what am I going to do? Lord have mercy. So things like that, that just make you feel so helpless and guilty. You've got to reach out for help is I is where I was going with that. You've got to reach out for help. You've got to take your own time for self care. You've got to protect your physical and mental health. You deserve to have help. You deserve to have a break. And it is time that you take that stone out of your pocket and shove it in the face of this monster called mom guilt and put it down for good slate. It, cut off its head and hold it up for everybody to see and say, no, no more. I am not going to, to succumb to these expectations that are unrealistic. That don't matter. At the end of the day, it just doesn't matter that it didn't take the five extra minutes and do the extra Plato castle today. It just in a long scheme of things, the grand scheme of things, it's just not going to matter again. We talk about balance. This is not an every, you know, you don't skip it every year, but it's okay. Oh, here's another good one. Oh my gosh. This is. And especially as they get older, well, it happens a lot when they're little, you know how your kids like repeat stuff that you and your husband were talking about in your home. And then they go and repeat stuff that you said about someone. Well, so first, first lesson don't talk about people in front of you at all, but especially in front of your kids, if you, you know, you don't want your kids to repeat it. But secondly, think about the time where your throwing a tantrum in the middle of the floor. Look, I promise you, another mom has experienced that. I have, you know what I did, I walked around the corner and I said, when you're ready, when you're ready to get up I'm ready to go. And I went and I stood by the door and I kind of watched from afar, monitoring him for safety. And I waited. He was throwing a tantrum about a Snickers bar. I kid you not the looks, the looks that I got in this door. Oh my gosh. I swear somebody was probably going to call security if I didn't go over and get them in a few minutes. But it is what it is. Listen, every single toddler in their life throws a tantrum. And sometimes yes, it's in front of a big, a big audience. And it is what it is. It's just inevitable. Your kids are going to do something that is going to be embarrassing to you. But let me tell you something. It doesn't mean anything related to your parenting. You know, when my kid posts something on social media, he's 18 years old. Yeah. There's things that I might be embarrassed of because I am attaching what the choices are that he's making to everything that I did to raise him. The reality is he is his own person. He's going to make his own choices. And sometimes those choices are not going to be ones that approve of so I can make that clear. I don't approve of that choice. I would like for you to take that down off social media, that is embarrassing to me. You are not representing me as your mother in a way that I want you to, but that is life. It doesn't, it doesn't define all the things that I, that one act that my child does. Doesn't define who I am as a mom. It doesn't mean that I don't have to talk myself down when things like that happen, but you just have to put in perspective, okay. I've rambled on quite a bit. I just wanted to speak to mom guilt because I know that thing is real. I know it, it, it, you know, it doesn't feel like a lie, but it is sometimes when you're in the middle of it, it just doesn't feel like a lie. But let me tell you something, mom, guilt is a lie for the most part. It's a lie. It here's the thing. Pray about the guilt that you're feeling, pray about it because God and the Holy spirit will guide you and let you know, is this something that I need to look at like that? But like that one example I was giving of me yelling too much. That was real. And the Holy spirit you know, I, I prayed about it and it was very clear. It was revealed to me that I was yelling too much. I was stressed and taking out the fact that I was irritated and tired and spinning everything that I had at work. And I didn't have anything left for my kids. So I was just yelling. I had no patience left. So I had to figure out how to rebalance that so that I would not spend all the time that I had with him yelling. So sometimes it's, it's good. So define what success looks like to you, define what those expectations you are. You have of yourself and make sure that those expectations are realistic and pray about it. Pray about those times that you're feeling is especially guilty about something, pray about it and let the Holy spirit kind of lead you on what you need to do about that. If you have set realistic expectations and you are still feeling guilty about something, then pray about it because he will show you what it is that you need to look to do differently. Guys, if you are feeling stuck, if you are in a place where you cannot, sometimes all it takes is somebody else outside of your situation, to look at what's going on and help you see something differently. Sometimes we're so deep in a situation that we just cannot see, see beyond it. If you're in that place and you just need another set of eyes, reach out to me, email me at Angie, tonyRogers@gmail.com. And I will help you by being that other set of eyes, I will make sure with you that the expectations you've set for yourself are fair and they're reachable. They're attainable. And if you know, you're in so deep that you cannot see above the water, I will help you get to a place where you can see above the water again. All right, ladies, we will see you on the next episode. Get ready, slay that giant. No more mom, guilt taking over it's time for you to slay that giant once. And for all I know you can do it. You have been called specifically for your children. You were given your children on purpose for a purpose. You were exactly who God called you to be for your children. For the world changers that you are raising. They are yours to raise, and God has given you them, and he's trusted you with them. So do not feel any more guilt about you being the mom. God chose you specifically to be the mom for your child. Okay? No more mom guilt. That giant is slain. Hallelujah!

So, whether you want more clicks, more views, more sales, or just more profits. How you get traffic …and the way you go about getting traffic is very important. Today we're going to be talking about traffic. And more specifically, how to turn traffic we don't own into traffic that we own. Now, before I get into that. We all know that there are several types of traffic. That is the traffic that we own and control, and it's traffic that we don't own and control. Russell usually refers to traffic that we don't own as traffic that we borrow, and the way he describes it is when you go and you purchase an ad on a very specific social media, or Google or YouTube. When you purchase an ad, you're borrowing, access to those people. To those views, right, you are buying, access, and that is we have no control over that traffic, and so we purchase it. And the goal for all marketers yourself, myself included, is to turn traffic we don't own into traffic that we own and the way we do that is by building an email list, which will be a list of prospects who have an interest in our product or service services. And so, to turn traffic we don't own traffic into that we own, we first need to understand the sources of traffic. We know that we can't create traffic. Traffic is already there, the people who we want to buy our products and services are already on specific platforms they're already using social media channels they're already watching YouTube videos or Instagrams or Snapchat or YouTube, whatever it is that they're using. We know they're already on those platforms. And the goal is to get them from where they are, where they're engaging with their friends family, and everyone else, and get them to come to our pages landing pages a website and click and take the appropriate action, because that's what we want, we want them to take an action. Now, I mentioned that there's a lot of, you know, sources of traffic, blog posts, podcasts, YouTube, Facebook, some unconventional sources of traffic, and also be Quora questions. Yahoo Answers, Reddit, and I was even heard someone say is saying Craigslist. So there really is a lot of, sources of traffic, but the source of traffic. What I want to focus on today is Solo ads and Solo Swaps. Oh, as they're called, Swaps. Now, I want to talk about these as they're less common, but they're just as important in getting you from ground zero up and running. They also refer to as fast traffic, because not only can you also get, those traffic for free, where you can get them much faster. In a few days, like, in a week or less, as opposed to when you're running, you know, your campaigns on other platforms, you have to give them time to build up that momentum to build up those views, so more people can see your content. Now, when it comes to Solo Ads and Swaps, which by the way, Swaps are the free version of Solo ads. So these are essentially when you got someone, let's say who has a blog, and you decide that you want to buy clicks from their list. And instead of buying views you buy clicks, so they'll email your product or services, or whatever you have to offer to their email list, and then every time someone clicks, at your link, you pay for that click. So how you can go and find the products and the niche that you're interested in? Find people who have used the same niche and the product, and have successfully done so. Now, the goal here is that you don't go and try and do everything by yourself from the scratch. Because one of the biggest things that I've learned from a lot of training and from having other mentors, is that going and learning everything, trying to reinvent the wheel. It's only gonna cost you. There's no point, why fix if it's still working? or why try to reinvent the wheel if it's already working? I really should find a new analogy. … but, why would I go searching for a new analogy if this one still works. So we're going to look at these three core desires. Which are: Health, Wealth, and Relationships. So, because of these three core desires and because of, a lot of products being invented being created there are also subcategories within each of these core three core desires. And, for example, in health, we can have health through dieting. You know how, through, better vaccinations and better access to health care, and exercise. And, yoga and mindfulness, and all these other subcategories within just one big category. And it's the same with wealth you know there's wealth through you know, saving more money, wealth through investment wealth through building new businesses work through, saving money to saving money making more money. Even Security, you know, so there's a lot of ways that so many subcategories within the world. And then in relationships, it's the same thing, right. We have family relationships. We have friends, we have spouses, and you know, you can either improve relationships or you can get into relationships or you can get out of the relationships. And so these are all the subcategories within these areas. And so, as an entrepreneur. Before you start going about how you're going to, dig into one of these subcategories, these niches, and start, working your way up to help people, firstly need to define which of these you're most passionate about. And whether it's empowering people to be the best version they can be, or whether it's, supporting people through hard times, or whether it's education. All of these can fit, you need to find one that really fits well into you. And the best part about knowing that is usually to just look at your own past experience and history. Usually, we are more, it's easier to talk about things that we have done things that we've gone through things that we are going from sharing those experiences are more natural. An example, would be one of my biggest passion is to leave this world a better place, so that others you know can have access to it in the future. And so, everything I would like to do everything I want to do, I want it to fit within that big umbrella term. So, If you wanted to explore more about these niches that goes to know what you're passionate about. And then from their own is a tonne of products that you can find that will help you get started in that particular area. But the key there is to ask is asking questions, you know, questions such as, who you want to serve? and why you want to serve them? and how you want to serve them? all those can be answers can be answered once you look at your own, questions your own problems, own roadblocks, and your own desires. And by looking at these four things, and solving them for yourself, for yourself, means that you can easily find someone else who has the same thing, and solving for them, for them. So, thank you so much for tuning in and joining me on this episode of the marketer's secret lighthouse, and enjoy your Sunday, good evening. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/herbertsmarketinghelp/message

Being extremely successful is risky. To be the first, you sacrifice being the last one. To be the first, you sacrifice being ridiculed. To be the first, you risk losing everything. I've noticed that the same traits that lead to success, also lead to failure. If you think exactly like Jeff Bezos and imitate his habits and routines, that does not mean you will become as successful as him or build the next Amazon. We can take the most successful entrepreneurs of our time and study their habits and learn what they do to become what they are. This is exactly the problem with successful people's studies. You only study the ones who became successful and you don't take into account the ones who failed and had the same habits, routines, mindsets, etc. This is known as survivorship bias. If you miss setting the context of the sales meeting, it is just like you missed the flight to your destination. The sales motivational quote shared is by Anthony Iannarino He is an international speaker, bestselling author, sales leader and an entrepreneur. Check out his sales blog “The Sales Blog” for daily sales tips and insights! “Care enough to create value for customer. If you get that part right, selling is easy” What does it mean to set meeting context? This is a key step when you have arrived at the meeting, have built rapport as discussed in last episode, and now you need to set the context of the meeting. Which simply means that you will highlight the focus points of todays meeting. WHY ARE WE HERE AND WHAT WILL WE DISCUSS. Setting the context at the beginning of any meeting is the first step you can take to ensure that the meeting is effective Participants need to understand what is the focus for the meeting. Some good examples: “Mr Customer, thank you for seeing me today and in today’s meeting we will cover a the important of social media, and how your brand can benefit from a strong social media presence.” That is it. Ideally, keep it one item so that you can focus on it, so can client focus on it and you can hit home the point. Think about it this way, before you meeting starts ask your self, what is one thing I would like my prospect to learn from todays meeting and remember after the meeting is over. That is the point you would design your presentation around and keep you clients focus on it. Now you can certainly go in to few directions and go in to deeper background, however if you miss this step, there will be no clarity why you are meeting with your prospect today. Pre Set The Context In An Email: What I do is I email my clients in advance, I set the meeting and I set the context in that email invite. So for example, “Hi Gary, How are you? I just wanted to schedule our performance review meeting with you for sometime this week. In this 45 minute meeting, we will cover performance of your store, find key areas where we can grow and I will also share with you two lead generation products that will fit your business model. Here is my availability for next week: Give them date/time options Closing it with: Please let me know the date and time that works best with your schedule and I will send you a calendar invite. This works most of the time. How about the clients who do not respond back to the emails? For those clients my email is little different: Hi Gary, I just wanted to give you a heads up that I will be working in your area next Tuesday, and will drop by with your performance reports, plus I have two new lead generation tools that I am excited to discuss with you. See you between 10 – 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 16th Thank you, Now with this I am not asking them to respond back to me, and not giving them a set time so that they can disappear on me. One thing I am certain, that these clients may not respond back to the email, however they do read their emails. Instagram: @FastestWayToLearnSales

If you don’t want your successful business to die, heed this warning now. On today’s episode Russell sends out a warning of why you can never stop fueling your fire. Here is some of the insightful advice in this episode: Find out how Russell learned to always fuel the fire even when he wasn’t ready to sell his customers something. See what kinds of things you can be doing to keep yourself relevant in the eyes of your customers. And find out why even when you’re successful with a huge following you need to continually put fuel on the fire. So listen here to find out some of the ways Russell fuels his fire, despite having millions of followers between all the platforms. ---Transcript--- Hey, good morning everybody. This is Russell and I want to welcome you back to the Marketing Secrets podcast. Hey everyone, it is a crazy rainy day out here. Our weather here in Boise is rainy. It wants to snow, it’s getting close to Christmas, but it’s too warm. It’s been raining like crazy, we’ve been praying it gets cold so we can get some snow, because that’d be really fun right now. Anyway, I’m heading to the office and just had a recurring theme in my head for the last day or so and I was like, I need to share this with everybody. So I’m going to talk about first my own experience, and then a close friend’s experience, and then some of you guys, it’s going to be related back to you. So the theme, the message today is you gotta keep on putting fuel into the fire. Now, I’ve experienced this about three or four times throughout my career, I’ve made this mistake and learned from it. And hopefully I won’t make this mistake again. But a lot of times what happens is we start having success with something right, we’re like, “This is amazing.” And then you stop doing it, for some reason. So in our business for example, we’ll start growing a list, we’re doing something to get new customers, new people in our door. And we’re having fun with it and it’s working. And all the sudden we start building a list, then we start, we shift our focus from that to selling them stuff and doing things and all these things. And we forget about the fuel that was brining people into our business. And at first you don’t notice it because you’re having so much success with the existing customers you brought in, but eventually it starts imploding and your company will eventually die. I’ve seen so many people who get into my world and they hear me talk about, “You need to do a podcast a week, every single week, for at least a year.’ So they do it for like a month, a month and a half, and they start making some sales, and they stop doing the webinar, because they’re like, “We’re making money, things are great. Let’s cut off the fuel that’s building our company.” That’s what happens and logically you’re like, “I would never do that.” But how many of you guys are still doing your weekly webinars? Alright, that means you cut off the fuel to your business. Alright, let me step back to like a decade ago when I was building my company. I remember one point for sure, I was having some success, I was making some money, things were working, and I was like, “This is amazing, amazing.” And started hiring the company, started building a team, had a bunch of people, had an office. And then I had this idea for this website that was going to be the greatest thing in the world. So we started working on it and it took us about six months to build that website. I remember during the process I was like, “Okay, I don’t want to email my list other things. I don’t want to make them upset, I don’t want to freak them out. I want them to be ready so when I have this thing ready and launched and live, they’ll be ready to buy it.” So for like six months I didn’t email my list, and then the new thing came out and I was so excited and we emailed the list. The list would normally get three or four thousand clicks if I send an email to them. I remember I had like 300 opens and like 12 clicks. And I was like, “Oh crap, they don’t remember who I am. I am screwed, I’m in such a bad spot right now because I need money very, very badly, which is the reason why I did this whole promotion.” And they forgot who I was. I hadn’t been putting fuel into the fire. And it was a very sad, scary lesson. I had to fire a bunch of people, I laid off some staff and I had to scramble to rebuild my list, rebuild a connection with them, get new people. I remember in my head saying, “I will never not email my list because people forget so fast.” If I waited a week to email my list, if it takes me three weeks to email my list, 2/3rds of my list will have forgotten who I am by that point. There’s so much noise, so much things happening, you have to always be out there. That’s the reason why I’m doing Instagram’s every day, and Facebook’s every day, and podcasts every day, and all these things every single day because we need to keep fueling the fire. Fueling the fire is what builds the empire. So I had a friend over last night and we were talking and he’s going through a bit of a tough time now, and we start talking and it was funny because he’s got a couple of different businesses and in all of them he had stopped putting the fuel. For his local business he had stopped the fuel. He just restarted it and he was like, ‘It’s killing. We’re doing awesome again.” And I was like, “Yeah, but what’s the lesson?” and he’s like, “I’d forgotten to put fuel on the fire.” I’m like, “yeah, you gotta keep doing that.” Even when things get successful, you gotta keep doing the things that are bringing fuel to the fire. And then that same person has a webinar, and he was doing a weekly webinar for a long time, making a bunch of money and then he stopped because he started selling other events and things like that to this list, and it worked for a while and then attrition started happening and atrophy, or whatever you want to call it. And then it slowed down. I said, “Start doing the weekly webinar. Get back with it. That’s the fuel that builds the business, that keeps doing it.” That same friend has a podcast and he’s like, “I used to podcast a couple of times a week and I haven’t podcasted since June.” It’s like, you gotta keep fueling the fire, you gotta keep fueling the fire, even when you have success over here, you can’t stop fueling the fire. So that’s just kind of the message for you guys today. This is a very short one, I know. Partially because Funnel Friday starts in like 5 minutes and I gotta run in there and get it all set up. So I’m a little late. But I just wanted you guys to think through that because you guys are going to go through these cycles of like, you’re focusing on how do I make it rain, how do I fuel the fire, how do I bring people in here, and you’re doing that and doing that and all the sudden your list and your customer base will start growing. And then what’s going to happen, I’m warning you, for those who haven’t done it yet, and I’m reminding you for those who have. You’re going to shift your focus, and you should, you should be shifting some portion of your focus to that audience and serving them and what’s the next thing I need and how else can I, what can I do? Is it an event? Or whatever, but the big thing is you can’t stop. You still have to tie in, I have to keep fueling the fire. I have to keep fueling the fire. In our company we now have John Parkes on my team, who literally, his entire job is adding fuel to the fire. He’s running the traffic side of things. He’s always doing things. And for me, I’m content. I keep creating podcasts. I gotta do at least two podcasts a week. I gotta do at least this many emails a week. I gotta do at least…we have these metrics we have to keep doing. We have to keep running the webinar. We have to get at least a thousand people a week to register for the webinar, we have to keep doing this to have all these numbers that we just keep doing because we know that’s the fuel for the business. I could easily stop right now, I could stop doing all this stuff. People are like, “Why are you still on Instagram? Why are you still on Facebook?” I could stop all those things, but I know what would happen in six months to a year from now, if I stop those things today. I can’t tell you how many friends I have who have been in this industry as long or longer than me who were killing it at one time. They had built up this huge following of people and then they stopped and they kept messaging this following. And the problem with that is it’s either constantly growing or shrinking. So if you stop bringing new fuel in the fire, new people in front end, your existing list, while they might be hot and responsive now, it will continue to get worse and worse until eventually you’re out of business. So this is the warning to you all. Continually put fuel on the fire. Initially when you start your business it’s going to be a hundred percent of your effort, because you have no fuel, no people, nothing to sell, no one to sell to. So it’s focusing, focusing, focusing a hundred percent of the time. And as customers start coming, you start shrinking it and shrinking it. But I would say, I would spend at least 50% of all your time fueling the fire and the other 50% on serving the people you  have in there. But I wouldn’t drop below that. Because if you do, it will start to shrink and shrink and eventually disappear, which is the worst thing for all of us. Alright, there’s your word of warning. Fuel your fire, keep it going. Do not stop even when it seems like, “I don’t need to do this anymore because I got this big following and people love me.” Look at me and say, “Wow, Russell’s got over a million people between all the platforms.” I think we’ve got a million and a half on the email list, we’ve got 700,000 on Facebook, 200,000 on Instagram, all these different places, yet you keep fueling the fire, fueling the fire, because I know I will become irrelevant if I stop. Alright guys,I’m getting a message from Melanie saying, “Where are you? Funnel Friday starts in two minutes!” I gotta go, appreciate you all, don’t forget to fuel your fire continually, consistently. If you do that your business will live a long happy, joyful life. Thanks everybody, talk to you soon.

Really? We all remember Glengarry Glen Ross when Alec Baldwin rips his sales team for being weak, and how they should follow the ABC's of selling, specifically Always Be Closing. Fast forward to 2018. Should we be heeding this advice? Dan jumps headlong into the debate on what Sales needs to be focusing on to be most successful. What does closing actually mean in the modern buying process? Some believe we need to modify this phrase to Always Be Helping. I think Alec Baldwin and your sales manager would laugh you out of the room if you posed that back in the early 90's. Today it is certainly more appropriate but Dan creates his own definition of what we should always be doing in Sales today. Warning: Don't listen just before bed
