Watching treatment implementation is one of the key determinants behind whether great treatments lead to great results. But, deep down in our hearts, we all struggle to hit that magic 33% of sessions with greater than 80% agreement we all learned about in graduate school. But, what if interobserver agreement didn't have to be that. What if we were thinking about IOA all wrong? This week we brush up on some of the basics of IOA procedures like “How do I calculate IOA again?” before moving on to more interesting research in the field like training folks to take good IOA and questioning the standard wisdom of how much IOA is good enough. We'll be watching you! This episode is available for 1.0 LEARNING CEU. Articles discussed this episode: Hausman, N.L., Javed, N., Bednar, M.K., Guell, M., Schaller, E., Nevill, R.E., & Kahng, S. Today on Heterodox Out Loud, we're joined by Andrew Hartz, president and founder of the Open Therapy Institute and a long-term member of Heterodox Academy. Andrew joins John Tomasi to explore the increasing prevalence of sociopolitical bias within the realm of mental health therapy. Andrew shares his motivations for founding the Open Therapy Institute, highlighting the concerning shifts in therapy practices caused by activist-oriented approaches and sociopolitical biases. He discusses the need for a more balanced, patient-centered therapeutic approach that respects diverse perspectives without conflating therapy with broader ideological battles. Agenda, Activism, and Bias, are three words many claim are infiltrating mental health care due to therapists putting their own political ideologies before their patient's needs. There is a growing concern by many who claim some mental health professionals and psychology professors have placed their own socio-political ideologies over what's best for their patients and the students entering the field. These same critics claim the bias has left many patients feeling the need to censor themselves or forgo much needed treatment altogether. Dr. Phil will speak with 18-year-old Claire, who claims her therapist crossed the line after subjecting her to a shocking political rant after her session ended, which forced her to sever ties with her therapist during a time she needed her the most. Dr. Phil will also speak with Dana, a mother who insists a therapist with a social justice agenda and clear bias against her, further drove a wedge between her and her daughter in only three sessions. Dr. Phil will also speak with Soad, a licensed therapist who says she requires all prospective clients to check her social media so they know she is a conservative who only deals in reality, and will challenge any non-fact-based position on social justice topics. Plus, Dr. Phil speaks with Megan, a licensed clinical counselor who says she's facing online cancel culture over her political social media posts. And, Dr. Phil will Dr. Hartz who is the founder of the Open Therapy Institute, an organization focused on removing bias from mental health care across the country. Ep 198 - Trevor Hartz - 605 Paramotor https://usppa.org/insurance/ Greetings, I'm Trevor Hartz, a proud resident of Sioux Falls, SD, and the visionary behind 605 Paramotor. By day, I lead crews in HVAC construction, and when the sun sets, I channel my creativity as a tattoo artist at Urban Ink. Amidst this bustling life, I cherish the aviation world, a passion shared by my five kids who, undoubtedly, are my greatest co-pilots. In my spare time, I find joy in simple pleasures—whether it's navigating virtual realms through video games or transforming houses into homes through my remodeling endeavors. The skies have beckoned me, and next year, I plan to take my kids on tandem adventures, instilling in them the thrill of flight. Having trained with Lonestar Paramotor in Texas a year and a half ago, little did I know that this journey would lead me to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others. I'm on a mission to grow the paramotor community in our region, currently standing strong with just two fellow pilots. Let's spread the love of this exhilarating sport together. Meet me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/trevor.hartz , where I share my adventures and connect with fellow enthusiasts. If you have any questions or if there's anything I can do, feel free to reach out. As a prior military member, I understand the importance of service, and I'm here to make a positive difference in our community. ********************************************************************************* Top 10 Q&A about Paramotoring https://www.paramotorarkansas.com/pages/top-10-questions-and-answers-about-paramotoring ****************************************************************************help support this show and our nonprofit by going to http://www.RunIntoTheSky.org

Today's guest, Dr. Andrew Hartz, is a psychologist who has noticed how politicized the world of therapy has become. Over the last few years, he has noticed a climate of patients not being able to talk about what's on their mind without getting a lecture from their therapist about racial injustice, as well as an environment that teaches clinicians to look at patients through a politicized lens. Julia Hartz started the event management and ticketing platform Eventbrite in 2006 alongside her then fiancée. The goal: bring the world together through live events. Hartz took over as CEO in 2016 and led Eventbrite through its $230 million IPO in 2018. The years following this promising IPO were rocky for Eventbrite. When the Covid-19 pandemic decimated the live events industry, Eventbrite lost 90% of its revenue and laid off 45% of its workforce. Yet as the world reopened and the live events industry bounced back, so did Eventbrite. In 2022, it pulled in $3.3 billion in gross ticket sales and made $261 million in revenue, an almost 40% year-over-year increase - all while maintaining an average ticket price of $40. In this episode of Leadership Next, Hartz joins hosts Alan Murray and Michal Lev-Ram to discuss how the company navigated the challenging early days of the pandemic and how it bounced back alongside the return of live events. Hartz also talks about why Eventbrite is different than other ticketing platforms and how Eventbrite is democratizing live events for both organizers and attendees. Additionally, Hartz shares her perspective on the the post-pandemic state of live events, including why events are currently so expensive (even if you're not going to see Taylor Swift of Beyoncé). Finally, Hartz talks about the challenges and advantages of starting a company with her now husband, the reality of being one of the few women who have taken a tech company public and why women are uniquely suited to lead a company through a crisis. Diffusé le 27 juin 2023  Générique : Fast and wild/EdRecords Post-production : Grégoire Levillain

When did it become okay to hate someone based on the color of their skin — as long as that skin is the color deemed the acceptable one to hate? More concerningly, when did it become okay for therapists, of all people, to openly endorse such race-based animosity?I invite clinical psychologist Andrew Hartz to explore how ideology has intruded into the practice of psychotherapy, posing ethical issues and threatening the integrity of our field. We discuss the barriers faced by many people in need of appropriate therapy for issues that do not fit “woke,” or critical social justice, narratives. Where does a white-skinned survivor of racially motivated violence go for trauma therapy when they have legitimate reasons to fear that a professional might merely school them on their so-called privilege? Where can a man seeking to integrate his masculinity go in a world where masculinity is too often written off entirely as toxic? As colleagues, we explore clinical issues we suspect are at play. Has the world increasingly normalized a climate of dysfunctional social and emotional patterns once considered psychopathological, as in Cluster B personality disorders? How do we, as therapists, help people work through psychological defenses such as splitting, projection, negative attention-seeking, and reaction formation when these are considered customary by the world around them? Finally, we answer a listener question from a therapist-in-training, and explore: where do we go from here?Andrew Hartz, Ph.D. is a professor of clinical psychology at Long Island University in Brooklyn and a psychologist in private practice in New York City. If you enjoyed this conversation, please rate & review it on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.
