Our second Anna Magnani Sampler includes three Hollywood films, two with parts written for her by her friend Tennessee Williams, as well as the second film directed by Pasolini: The Rose Tattoo (1955), Wild is the Wind (1957), The Fugitive Kind (1960), and Mamma Roma (1962). Paired with a wacky Burt Lancaster, a bullying Anthony Quinn, a quietly intense Brando, or a nihilistic teenager, Magnani takes on such enemies as the racist South, patriarchy, and the class system with varying results, but always with ferocity and gusto.  Time Codes: 0h 00m 30s:      THE ROSE TATTOO (1955) [dir. Halloween Jack, The Thin White Duke, Aladdin Sane... ► À écouter aussi, l'épisode de Réservoir rock : «Wild Is The Wind», David Bowie (1976)

Eamon O'Flynn is joined by Nathan Smith and Alex Kinsella to discuss Wild is the Wind, the daring and influential album from Nina Simone. This album ranked #212 on the 2020 Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list.Runtime: 46 minutesLeave comments on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook at @rrmusicpod or visit our website at recordroulettepodcast.com.Who is Nina Simone?Nina Simone (1933-2003) was an American singer, songwriter, musician and civil rights activist. Nicknamed “the High Priestess of Soul,” Simone's music blended gospel, blues, jazz, folk and classical music to create a style all her own. She was one of the earliest established black musicians to produce direct social commentary in support of civil rights. Considered one of the most gifted vocalists of her generation, Wild is the Wind is Simone's lone entry on the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums list. What is Wild is the Wind?Wild is the Wind is Nina Simone's sixth studio album. Released in 1966, it was cut together from several recordings from sessions in 1964 and 1965 and not originally conceived as an album. Despite this, Wild is the Wind was a “special merit pick” from Billboard Magazine upon release, though some tracks faced backlash due to their social commentary. For example, “Four Women” was released as a single and gained wide attention when it was banned by a New York jazz radio station for its lyrics. In addition to its appearance at #212 on Rolling Stone's Greatest Albums list, Wild is the Wind was also rated the 5th best album of the 1960s by Pitchfork.

“Wild is the Wind” é uma destas insólitas obras harmoniosamente coabitadas pelo sublime e o intolerável. Exageradamente humana, prodigiosamente bela. Estamos em 1966. On October 15th, 1988 Bon Jovi started a four-week run at number one on the US Album chart with their fourth studio album 'New Jersey'. Bon Jovi was coming off of the multi-million selling 1986 album 'Slippery When Wet' so expectations were high when 'New Jersey' was released on September 19th, 1988. The band lived up to those expectations with another chart topper, another multi-million seller (seven million sold) and an album that still holds the record for having the most top ten hits for any hard rock album with five. But 'New Jersey' is more than just the hits. The album tracks are among the best of the band's career thanks to Jon Bon Jovi and guitarist Richie Sambora who were at the peak of their musical powers by this time. Hear the stories behind all of the songs along with some of the original demos (including an acoustic version of "Born To Be My Baby"). Also find out what the other possible album titles the band had in mind, the story behind the album cover art and how the album and grueling tour that followed nearly ended a burned out Bon Jovi at the end of the 80s.TRACKLISTING:1. Nina Simone was one of the most gifted vocalists of any generation. She was a singer, pianist, and songwriter who bent genres to her will rather than allowing herself to be confined by their boundaries. We can't praise this album enough!

Howdy Listeners Wishing you all a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2017 now to the music Been sitting on this mix for a little while, made it for myself when Autumn hit. I always feel melancholy around that time of year and not in a bad way either. It's the first anniversary of Bowie's passing on the 10th January, and what would've been his 70th Birthday on the 8th so I thought it would be an ideal time to share it. It's a 50 year retrospective of some of my favourite melancholic and moody tracks. His voice had such a range of emotions, unmatched by any other rock/ alternative vocalist in my opinion. His talent will be forever greatly missed but at least we still have his music and all the memories connected with it. A mix more for the connoisseur than the casual fan I think, but give it a listen, you never know :) So without further ado, please enjoy Wild is the Wind : The Music of David Bowie : Mixed by AllyAl tracklist Lazarus The Man Who Sold The World Letter to Hermione My Death The London Boys The Bewley Brothers Time Rock & Roll Suicide Sons of the Silent Age The Motel Warszawa Some Are Subterraneans Quicksand Dollar Days Slow Burn Heroes Where Are We Now ? Starts out very low tempo, then increases a bit as the mix goes on, but still solidly in the Morning Music range. Actually the title is deceptive. Most of it is not really Disco; there's a lot more pop, synth pop, R&B, etc. than actual Disco. I tried to go outside the box and tried to make it a very eclectic selection. Which is always what the best Morning Music I heard in the 80's was. The more inventive and wide ranging the musical selections, usually the more I liked it. 1. Nothing Compares To You - Sinead O'Connor 2. Stop (Long Version) - Sam Brown 3. Perfect Island Nights - Bobby Caldwell 4. With You - Tony Terry 5. If Only You Knew - Patti LaBelle 6. Someone Like You - Van Morrison 7. I Surrender (80`S Retro Mix) - F.R. David 8. Too Much, Too Little, Too Late (Duet With Johnny Mathis) - Deniece Williams 9. It Must Have Been Love - Roxette 10. A Love Again - Savage 11. The Land Of Make Believe - Bucks FIzz 12. Forever - Gladys Knight & The Pips 13. Nikita (Extended Version) - Elton John 14. Come Undone (Album Version) - Duran Duran 15.
