Ashton Eaton is a 2x Olympic Gold Medalist (2012 and 2016) and a 5x World indoor and outdoor champion in the decathlon. He was the former world record holder in the decathlon and still holds the world record for the heptathlon. At the University of Oregon, he was a 5x NCAA champion and all American. Yet he grew up in Central Oregon a multi-sport athlete who only learned about the decathlon as a senior in high school when he was considering going to play Division III college football. Gabriel Castaño is a graduate of Penn State University and a 2x Mexican Olympic Swimmer in the 50 freestyle (2020 and 2024), and was once ranked as high as 4th in the world in his event. He, too, spent a childhood as a multi-sport athlete, competing mostly in road cycling and mountain biking after watching his father race motorcycles as a child. He began swimming in high school, and joined swim team to be with some friends, yet improved rapidly as he fell in love with the sport, eventually becoming an NCAA swimmer and Olympian. In today's podcast, John talks to Ashton and Gabo about their multi-sport childhoods, and how their parents and coaches allowed them to develop ownership, enjoyment, and the intrinsic motivation to compete and improve. They speak about their love of competing, and how the skills they developed as athletes translate into their lives after being a professional athlete. So many athletes are scared of this transition, and think that they do not have the skills to go into the corporate world, but Ashton and Gabo share how important it is to use the discipline and drive they learned as athletes to first explore and find your next passion, and then become a coachable employee, seeking feedback and improvement on your journey. This week we dig into the archives from April 2017, when John sat down with world record holder and 2x Olympic Gold Medalist Ashton Eaton for some timeless advice for athletes of all sports and ages. Ashton Eaton is a retired American decathlete and two-time Olympic champion, who holds the world record in both the decathlon and indoor heptathlon events. Ashton competed for the University of Oregon, where he was a five-time NCAA champion, and won The Bowerman award in 2010. In 2011, he won the first international medal of his career, a silver, in the decathlon at the 2011 World Championships. The following year, Eaton broke his own world record in the heptathlon at the 2012 World Indoor Championships, and then broke the world record in the decathlon at the Olympic Trials. After setting the world record, Eaton won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He successfully defended his Olympic title in Rio 2016 by winning the decathlon gold medal and tying the Olympic record. Eaton is only the third Olympian (Bob Mathias of the US and Britain's Daley Thompson being the other two.) to achieve back-to-back gold medals in the decathlon. "From the moment I step foot in this sport in 2011 in college, I had no idea what to expect. I always had heard of Trey Hardee, Dan O'Brien and Ashton Eaton so they were my role models. As someone who is so competitive at heart, I wanted to be like them and push my scores to get up next to them. The fact that I've passed a few and I'm getting so close to the others, I'm just honored. That's the only word I can think of and I'm so blessed to have the path that they set for me to carry on this tradition.” This past weekend, Garrett Scantling secured his place for the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon by winning the USATF Combined Events Championships. His 8,867 points not only gave him the victory but moved him up to No. 3 on the U.S. all-time list and makes him the 7th best decathlete ever in the world. He finished fourth at last year's Tokyo Olympics but the most interesting thing about his path to success is that he took a break away from the sport. After finishing fourth at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, Scantling decided to retire and then signed with the Atlanta Falcons as a receiver for their 2017 spring camp. He also spent some time with the Jacksonville Jaguars. And when football didn't work out, he took a desk job as a financial advisor. We go through all of that and what eventually drew him back into the sport, which he really loves and wants to grow. He'll be joined by Georgia junior Kyle Garland, who broke the NCAA decathlon record this weekend, and two-time Olympian Zach Ziemek on Team USA for Worlds. SUPPORT THE SPONSORS GARMIN: Music. Is becoming only the third man in the history of the world to win back-to-back Olympic decathlon gold medals as easy as treating everything like a video game and leveling up? Or is at simple as just imitating what you see on television? For Duck track legend Ashton Eaton, it may just be. Eaton's journey to greatness is an unlikely one. The only child of a single mom, Eaton, who grew up in LaPine, Oregon, had limited scholarship offers out of high school. That is until he was convinced to try a track event called the decathlon by his high school coaches. It was a conversation that would change his life. Oregon scholarship in hand, Eaton began his rise to the top of the decathlon world. Five-time NCAA champion. Eight-time All-American. 2012 Olympic Gold medalist. And then the 2016 Olympic Gold medalist. All of it came from a mentality he learned in his childhood playing video games. He just leveled up.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

With the Tokyo Olympics on the horizon, we thought it would be incredibly interesting to explore the ways in which cyber security can impact athletes and the world of sports. 2x Olympic gold medal decathlete Ashton Eaton joins us for today's episode of Cyber Security Inside to offer his point of view.   We cover: -  Some of the specific security risks associated with big sporting events like the Olympics -  Who might be interested in tampering with data, and why -  Eaton's career trajectory and how he wound up a decathlete -  What a typical day might look like for an Olympic athlete in competition, from training to walking around the Olympic Village - What advice he'd give to the Tokyo Organizing Committee for this summer's upcoming Olympic Games ...and more.   Be sure to tune in pre-Olympics for some great insider insight!   The views and opinions expressed are those of the guests and author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of Intel Corporation.   Here are some key take-aways: -  Security is increasingly becoming a topic of interest in the sports world; as more and more athletes track their biometrics digitally, there is more risk for cyber attacks related to sensitive performance-related information. -  There is growing concern that individuals or even governments of certain countries might tamper with results to benefit themselves. -  Even things like blood panels and urine sample results from anti-doping tests could theoretically be exploited by hackers. - In addition to sufficient security, logistical efficiency and reliable, timely transportation play a key role for athletes in the Olympics, and it's important for organizers to get those things right.   Some interesting quotes from today's episode: “You have to think, Well, what kind of information is being collated specifically for this event? And what could happen that could be nefarious or bad, necessarily?”   “At the individual athlete level, you have everything from the data you're generating about your performance to perhaps your physiology--something as simple as notes from your physical therapist on your physical state to maybe some kind of app you're using to track your training, whether it be your times or whatnot, to a blood panel that you've taken to kind of assess your fitness.”   “I was thinking, I have no clue who has access to my stuff. As athletes gather more information on themselves, whether it be video or whether it be spreadsheets of information, whether it's their times or their nutrition or whatever it is, I think it's an increasing concern.”   “What would be more impactful is if you did have access to data from your competitors that basically showed that they were cheating in some way, shape or form.”   “Tampering with the event itself is becoming probably more of a security issue. Anything from timing, right? I mean, you look at something like swimming - oftentimes those world records or those races, when that hand presses that little thing underneath the water there, there are like hundredths of a second. How simple would it be for somebody with means to be able to just switch that sucker around?”   “I think the absolute key to make things successful from an athlete's perspective is logistical efficiency.”

Just mu nõrgemate alade rekordid on paranenud. Samamoodi pole mu tugevamad alad ära kadunud. Sel hetkel sain ma aru, miks Brianne soovis enda kõrvale kedagi veel treenima, sest see Ashtoni meeletu talent ajas teda marru juba," naerab Šadeiko. Grit Šadeiko räägib saates muuhulgas oma sportlikest õdedest Gretest (27) ja Jadest (20), noorpõlvest, karjääri raskeimaks perioodiks kujunenud 2019. aastast, kriitilistest kaasmaalastest, imelisest kuulitõukekatsest, enim rõõmu pakkunud võistlustest ning treeningute ülesehitusest. Saatesarja 20. osa lõpus avaldame eelmise küsimusmängu õige vastuse, loosime välja võitja ja esitame uue küsimuse, millele saab vastata aadressil ekjl@ekjl.ee. Saadet juhib Karl Rinaldo.

Today’s episode features Jérome Simian, French physical preparation coach. Jérome is a coach who not only has been trained by some of the best minds in the world (Jay Schroeder and Charles Poliquin) but also works with some of the greatest athletes in the world, notably Kevin Mayer, the new decathlon world record holder who broke Ashton Eaton’s old mark with an incredible score of 9126. After Kevin Mayer broke the record,Jérome wrote a fantastic article on Strength Sensei about some of the training that allowed Kevin Mayer to overcome back and foot issues, as well as a weak start in his races to progress to a point where he is now the world record holder.   One of the big issues with physical preparation is that the higher the level the athlete is, the less weightroom and barbell lifts will transfer to that athlete’s on-field performance.  All too often forgotten is that it is not what you do but how you do it. Jérome is truly a master of the how.  This episode is a must-listen for any track and field or strength coach, as what Jérome did with Kevin Mayer is truly phenomenal.   On today’s episode, Jérome will cover his approach with Kevin Mayer, how he fixed some of Kevin’s imbalances, his approach to maximal strength training (and then eventually a lack thereof) with Kevin in his lead up to setting the world record.  There are also many tips to the nuances of exercise performance within this episode. Today’s episode is brought to you by SimpliFaster, supplier of high-end athletic development tools, such as the Freelap timing system, kBox, Sprint 1080, and more.   Key Points Jérome’s training of Kevin Mayer, world record holder in the decathlon How Jérome approaches basic barbell strength training for athletes in terms of posture, position and muscle firing Kevin Mayer’s initial performance needs when he came to Jérome Why Jérome decided to stop doing any significant barbell lifting in Kevin’s training for a period of many months Why exact exercise selection is not nearly as important as how you do what you are doing in the weightroom or track “Strength training and resiliency are not separate qualities” “Kevin’s muscles were fighting each other in lifting… it was more a coordination problem” “There is constant control around the joint at all times; there is no time where the muscle is completely relaxed” “You want to pull (down) with your hip flexors when you squat” “For the RDL I’ll pinch the skin on the lumbar spine… and that teaches them how to get into the proper position… I don’t like telling them pull with this, think about a muscle, etc.” “Extreme ISO’s are supposed to be movement” “(When he came to me) Kevin was more a kangaroo than a racehorse” “We never get very far from ATG squats because that keeps his hips loose” “(Regarding a period of time in Kevin Mayer’s training) No (heavy) squatting no deadlifting at all from October to March” “It’s the concept of metaphors; if you are producing 300lbs one way, but resisting 75lb the other way, you are better off producing 200lb one way and zero the other way (in terms of building efficient movement)” “If you want to lift and be good for sport you have to have a healthy disregard for the amount of weight on the bar” “Do you want to be strong, or do you want to lift heavy weights, they are not necessarily the same” About Jérome Simian Jérome Simian started his coaching career in 1998. Since then, he has coached athletes to compete in seven Olympic games, to World and European medals, as well to national records and dozens of national championships. His experience ranges from track and field to professional rugby, to figure skating, to mention only a few. In a country where good athletes are helped for free and coached by the federal system, his private practice was built on helping those who did not fit the standard performance requi...

Going to be great.” He added, “And by my scenes I mean our scenes. By definition. Super cool episode.” Amell was referring to Season 5, Episode 20, which is titled “Underneath,” airs during May sweeps and will revisit, in depth, Felicity's termination of their wedding engagement after learning that Oliver 1) had a son, 2) didn't tell her, and 3) then didn't include his bride-to-be in the decision to send young William and his mother away, to safety. Arrow's Stephen Amell will trade in his salmon ladder for the floating steps and compete against Dancing with the Stars' Derek Hough, Parenthood's Erika Christensen, Today's Natalie Morales, comedian Nikki Glaser, actress Mena Suvari, former Yankees player Nick Swisher, comedian Jeff Dye and Olympic decathlon and heptathon champion Ashton Eaton. The special episode will kick off the night on Thursday, May 25 at 8/7c on NBC. Oliver (Stephen Amell), Team Arrow, ARGUS and the SCPD kick off a citywide manhunt for Adrian Chase (Josh Segurra).  Helix tells Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) they have a way to find Chase but they will need something big, and illegal, from her in return.  Joel Novoa directed the episode written by Speed Weed & Elizabeth Kim. Link:http://comicbook.com/2017/04/06/arrow-dangerous-liaisons-synopsis-released/    GENERAL DC TV NEWS Legends of Tomorrow EP Klemmer Compares Season 3 To Game of Thrones (Date: 03 April 2017) Executive producer Phil Klemmer suggested that fans should get used to losses and that they're committed to going the full Game of Thrones in season 3 so that fans never have the comfort of assuming that anyone is safe. “It's always been a rule since the Hawkman death [in the pilot], Greg [Berlanti] said it before the show was even a show about how his mission was to make this not like network TV, that no one would be bulletproof, that it was more like the Ned Stark idea of anybody could lose their head at any time. As we've been roughly breaking out next season, we're more committed to that than ever. Again, that's a really bittersweet thing because we think the dynamic of the characters have is so special and wonderful, and at the same time, you don't want the audience to become too comfortable on the show. It is supposed to be a wild ride. You need that real consequences and real bloodshed to counterbalance the fluffiness and the silliness of the show. Otherwise it would just float off into space.” Link:http://comicbook.com/2017/04/03/legends-of-tomorrow-showrunner-compares-season-3-to-game-of-thro/      How The Supergirl Effects Team Brought Parasite To Life (Date: 04 April 2017) The CW has released this video showing the visual effects for the Parasite episode of Supergirl from earlier this season. The episode was called Changing, the sixth of the season, and featured scientist Rudy Jones becoming the classic DC villain. It also showed us both Mon-El and Guardian in action after Supergirl and J'onn J'onzz were drained by Parasite. There's no dialogue in the video, but you can see from the different effects shots how many different layers are needed for some of what look like simple scenes and how much of the shots are practical compared to computer generated. As the CW drama's sophomore run came to a close this week, Rip Hunter (played by original cast member Arthur Darvill) quietly packed a bag and bid the Waverider and its new captain, Sara, adieu. That, however, does not mean viewers have seen the last of the Brit. “We've got plans for Rip for next year,” Legends showrunner Marc Guggenheim told Entertainment Weekly Radio on Thursday. “It's just in a different capacity than him being a member of the team.” As for another burning Q — whether sister series such as Arrow and The Flash will reflect the weird reality on hand when the Legends crash-landed in 2017 Los Angeles — Guggenheim in a word said no. “We never want television to feel like a homework assignment,” where viewers of one #DCTV show must track all of them. “That said… there will be an explanation in Season 3 as to why you're not seeing dinosaurs run through Central City.” Link:https://tvline.com/2017/04/06/legends-of-tomorrow-season-3-rip-hunter-returns/      The Once And Future Flash Synopsis Released Online (Date: 06 April 2017) Barry (Grant Gustin) travels to the future to find out Savitar's still unknown identity in the hopes of saving Iris (Candice Patton).  Upon his arrival in 2024, Barry encounters future versions of his Team Flash friends, who, following the death of Iris, have become very different people, profoundly impacted by their showdown with Savitar.  It will be up to Barry to infuse a sense of hope back into the team, as he proves to be hero his future friends have been waiting for. Meanwhile, back in 2017, the hunt for Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker) continues.  Tom Cavanagh directed the episode written by Carina Adly MacKenzie. Lena asks Kara to attend Jack's conference with her for support. When Kara sees Snapper (guest Star Ian Gomez) in attendance she's inspired to tap back into her reporter skills and questions Jack on his discovery, which ultimately leads to a bigger investigation that puts everyone in danger. Armen V. Kevorkian directed the episode written by Paula Yoo & Caitlin Parrish. In comic books, Abra Kadabra is a time-traveling villain and sometimes Rogue who uses his future technology to simulate magic powers in pursuit of criminal gain. Smith said that midway through the episode “Supergirl Lives”, producers started feeling out his schedule. Ultimately, they offered him episode 17, which he described as "sweet," saying that it was nice that producers liked the job he was doing enough to bring him back within the season.
