Chicago-based EVIDENCE OF A STRUGGLE  consist of multi-instrumentalist REV. BILLY SIMMONS and an evolving group of artists and musicians that began in 2020 creating a lush, cinematic, beautiful and sometimes chaotic compositions. Rev Billy Simmons began working with renowned sound engineer Sanford Parker (Voivod, Russian Circles, Yob, Eyehategod, Wovenhand, Darkthrone, Youth Code, Pelican) who helped produce, record and master the final versions of the songs in his 13- track eponymous album which was released in June 2023. The album is complemented by a multi-chapter audio-visual storybook, created by Chicago artist John Air, who has been involved with the project since the outset- creating videos, album covers and accompanying visuals for live performances. With a backstory involving collaborations with RCA recording artist Ke and various artist on major labels like RCA, Touch and Go, BMG and Universal, it is no surprise that Evidence of a Struggle would evolve. In 2023 Matt Walker (of1000faces, Smashing Pumpkins, Morrissey, Garbage, Filter) joined the project, playing drums and helping with production with Matt's brother Solomon Walker (Morrissey, Bryan Adams, Eastern Shadows, Year of The Rabbit) and Alan Berliant (Chris Connelly, Mavis Staples, Saint Asonia ) also on bass. Rev Billy also owns Rev Billy's Chop Shop, also known as an inclusive, creative space, hosting new artists' work bimonthly and declared by Chicago Reader as the city's best gallery in 2019.   Be sure to see the video interview on My Tube Channel. Today's guest makes me believe in inevitability. Mario Quintero is the singer and guitarist for the band Spotlights. He started the band with his now wife, Sarah. They met at the studio Mario owned. But before all of that, Mario was a kid from Colombia who grew up on his sister's albums and traditional hispanic music (like Mario Quintero Lara). He went to college for recording but veered off into the jazz program, playing guitar. After college he opened a studio, where he met Sarah and that's where our coincidences begin. It turns out that we all not only share a wedding anniversary but also ran into each other (Mario during the last Failure tour and Sarah at the last show I saw before the pandemic, Wovenhand & Om). The pair connected and began playing together soon after. Mario talks about the band's name, working for some amazing other bands in many different capacities, and the difficulties in keeping a full time job when you're touring with bands like The Melvins and Deftones.  Spotlights' new album, Alchemy For The Dead, is awesome and if you like heavy, melodic music, you're going to love it. Pick it up wherever you get your music. Follow them @spotlightsmusic on Instagram. And if you get the chance, go see them live.  You can help the show out by following us @PerformanceAnx on Twitter & Instagram. You can support us through ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety with some coffee money or by buying merch on performanceanx.threadless.com.  And I hope you enjoy Mario Quintero from the ultimate husband and wife project, Spotlights on Performance Anxiety on the Pantheon Podcast Network. Chicago-based Evidence of a Struggle presents 'Bisquee', the moody oscillating third single from their forthcoming 13-track eponymous album, to be released on June 9. The accompanying video is the newest offering from a six-chapter audio-visual storybook, created by Chicago artist John Airo, who has been involved with this project since the outset - creating videos, album covers and accompanying visuals for live performances. This engaging off-kilter post-rock offering follows the cinematic debut single 'Do'Oa', a wonderful fusion of Tortoise and Dif Juz, and 'Alan's Song' - the sound of fear, beauty and hubris. The sound of a beautifully crumbling grand distraction. Surrounding the musings of multi-instrumentalist William P C Simmons V a.k.a. Rev. Billy Simmons, Evidence of a Struggle is an evolving group of artists and musicians whose sonic creations may lead you to the center of the darkness or just might unfurl the universe before you with lush, cinematic, beautiful, and sometimes chaotic compositions. Evidence of a Struggle began in 2020 during lockdowns. This ambitious effort sees Rev. Billy play every instrument – guitar, drums, piano, synth and violin - recorded and engineered from his home studio, The Glue Factory. With Covid restrictions lifted, he began working with Sanford Parker (Voivod, Russian Circles, Yob, Eyehategod, Wovenhand, Darkthrone, Youth Code, Pelican), who helped produce and record the final versions of the songs for this record, as well as mastering. #NewMusic #StoryTelling #Interview #Live

Few artists have committed to the ethic of apocalyptic – even gothic – Americana as completely as Colorado's David Eugene Edwards. From his early work with The Denver Gentlemen and 16 Horsepower to the last two decades of material he has offered via Wovenhand, Edwards practically haunts every stage, and album, with spirits that are simultaneously spectral and Biblical. On this episode of the True Tunes Podcast, John J. Thompson sits down with Edwards in front of a live audience at the Audiofeed Festival in Champaign, Illinois to talk about his origins, his musical concepts, and his mystical perspectives on everything from the nature of art and humanity to the essence of spirituality and redemption. Then we crank up the jukebox to hear some other seminal apocalyptic music – and consider the value and purpose of provocative art in general. What is it that is being hidden, revealed, discovered, or avoided, when we drop the needle these days?   Full Show Notes and a special Apocalypse Rocks Playlist are available HERE or at TrueTunes.com/Wovenhand   The True Tunes Podcast is sponsored by VisionTrust.org. Your favourite dose of alternative music chat is back, it's Riot Act, that's us, we're here, we're back… hi. It's been a busy week away from Riot Act towers for Steve and Remfry this week, which has meant we haven't been able to give you individual reviews on the massive albums that are released this week, so (old school!) we're doing it here! We look at new releases from Cult of Luna, Zeal & Ardor, Eddie Vedder and Wovenhand. Plus there's chat about the recent Knocked Loose and Terror show in London and a comprehensive review of this weeks BRIT Awards (because we know you love that!), which was… not as bad as it could have been actually. O to, aby to nebylo až tak rozjuchané, se postarají Wovenhand a Tenderloud, těžkotonážní Clutch a naopak k tanci zahrají například Days´n´Daze, klasici The Gun Club, nebo ulítlí Goober and The Peas.

VIPop #38 Why is Emily Jane White today the most important voice of "Dark Folk"? ... Quite simply because she's above all a true artist, open to the world, who cannot be reduced to a musical trend ... Because in her work, she knows how to marry pastoral and luxuriance in a marvellous way and the form is always at the service of high-flying songwriting ... Because the emotion conveyed by her voice with its multiple possibilities is based above all on accuracy rather than on overbidding ... And because her words, concerned with environmental or feminist causes, are lived in conscience and not as opportunism ... A rare person and a precious artist. Support us!

Them and Drop Them Intro The Woods”. # La segunda canción, “The Fire”. Here is a live show that we taped at the Denver Music Summit. The organizers invited us to put together a special show at the McNichols and invite musicians from near and far to tell "Tales From The Road." We had such an amazing group of stories that we thought it would be great to present all of them together. Our storytellers include: Yonnas Abraham from The Pirate Signal and BLKHRTS, Megan Burtt, Carleigh Aikens from BAHAMAS, Jeff Linsenmaier from The Fray, The Czars, Wovenhand, Scott Booker, who manages The Flaming Lips, and Dessa from the Doomtree Collective. Your faithful hosts kick off the podcast with the story of The Mouthstepperz, their acapella dubstep band. The intro and outro music was produced and graciously provided by Sans Seruf, and you can find more slick beats for your earholes over at his bandcamp page. Thanks for listening, and happy holidays!
