In this episode, we sit down with Christian Rasmussen to talk about his powerful journey from drug addiction to recovery, and the role that Amanita muscaria played in helping him rebuild his life. Christian shares his personal story openly and honestly, explaining how he discovered the mushroom, why he chose this path, and how it supported his healing process both physically and mentally. We also discuss the importance of education, preparation, and respect when working with Amanita muscaria, including safe approaches to medicinal use and the risks people need to understand before considering it. This is a thoughtful and grounded conversation about recovery, responsibility, and alternative approaches to healing. Whether you're interested in medicinal fungi, harm reduction, or personal transformation stories, this interview offers real insight from someone who's lived the journey. In this week's episode of High on Home Grown, we're covering major busts, powerful medical stories, and some interesting shifts in policy and public opinion: Macky starts with a huge find from the BBC, where police discovered a £7.1 million cannabis operation inside a derelict high school. It's another example of the scale some underground grows are reaching, and the strange locations they're turning up in. He also shares the touching story of a young girl whose family says medical cannabis has transformed her life, highlighting once again the real human impact behind the ongoing fight for better access. John brings political developments from the US, where Wisconsin senators have approved a Republican-led medical marijuana bill, even as Democrats continue pushing for broader recreational legalization. It's a clear sign of how the conversation is evolving, even in more conservative states. We also look at an opinion piece explaining why many law enforcement officers are supporting Trump's rescheduling move, a shift that shows attitudes are changing even within traditional enforcement circles. And Smee rounds things off with new research showing daily opioid use dropped by 9 to 11 percentage points following recreational legalization, adding to the growing evidence that legal access may play a role in reducing reliance on more dangerous substances. Another packed episode full of real-world impact, changing attitudes, and stories that show how fast the landscape continues to shift.

In this week's Grow Guides, we're taking a trip through cannabis history and breaking down the most iconic strains of all time. The genetics that shaped modern growing, breeding, and consumption as we know it. We talk through legendary names like Skunk #1, Northern Lights, Haze, and Afghani, before moving into modern classics such as White Widow, OG Kush, Chemdawg, and Sour Diesel. We also cover AK-47, Blueberry, Durban Poison, and Gorilla Glue #4, looking at where they came from, why they stood out, and how their influence is still felt in today's genetics. This episode isn't about hype or marketing, it's about why these strains mattered. We discuss stability, flavour lineage, flavour, effects, and how each of these cultivars helped push growing techniques and breeding forward. Whether you've grown them, smoked them, or only heard the names whispered with reverence, this episode gives proper context to the strains that built the foundations of modern cannabis culture. In today's interview, we sit down with Ken Somerville, host of the YouTube channel It's All About the Biology. Ken shares his growing journey, his approach to cultivation, and the deeper spiritual connection he has developed through growing and using cannabis. We also talk openly about Ken's health journey. He's had several close encounters with death and has dealt with serious health issues along the way, and he explains how cannabis played a meaningful role in his recovery and ongoing wellbeing. It's an honest, reflective conversation that goes far beyond growing techniques. This one runs a little longer than usual, but for good reason. It's relaxed, thoughtful, and packed with perspective. So roll a couple of extra fat ones, settle in, and enjoy a genuinely insightful interview. Do you have any suggestions for guest on the show? In this week's episode of High on Home Grown, we're digging into some serious research, real-world consequences, and important policy movement: Macky opens with a study shared by Cromag on Discord, looking at cannabis use before and after legalisation in Canada and how it intersects with mental health status. Published in The Lancet Regional Health, it's a data-heavy piece that adds much-needed context to an often oversimplified debate. Dr. Margaret follows with another fascinating study suggesting that lifetime cannabis use may be linked to greater cognitive performance in aging populations. Challenging long-held assumptions about long-term effects and brain health. We also look at reports that “High January” is fuelling a cannabis boom, while experts simultaneously flag potential health concerns. A reminder that growth, access, and responsibility all need to move forward together. John brings positive news from Mississippi, where lawmakers have approved a bill allowing medical marijuana use in hospitals for terminally ill patients. A meaningful step toward compassion-led healthcare. And Smee closes with a sobering story from The Independent, where a man suffered life-changing burns following an explosion at a suspected cannabis farm. Something that makes the panel sceptical of this claim! Another packed episode blending science, policy, progress, and the risks that still come with prohibition-era realities.

In this week's Grow Guides, we step away from nutrients, lights, and equipment and focus on something just as important: the mentality of growing. We talk about how obsessing over plants too much often causes more harm than good, and why overcorrecting problems that don't actually exist is one of the fastest ways to stress a healthy grow into trouble. We also dig into Instagram and comparison bias. How scrolling perfect-looking grows can quietly wreck your confidence and decision-making. Impatience comes up at every stage, from germination to harvest, along with confirmation bias when diagnosing issues and the way a grower's stress can transfer directly into how plants are treated. We also discuss the skill of learning when to leave plants alone, trusting the process, and remembering the real end goal — healthy plants and enjoyable results, not chasing perfection. This episode is all about mindset, restraint, and confidence. A must-listen if you've ever checked your tent ten times a day or talked yourself into fixing something that wasn't broken. Links:

She has been in this industry for over 30 years and has helped thousands of people find herbal medicines to help with many different ailments and illnesses. In this interview we talk about cannabis as a medicine, and how it can help with cancer. In this week's episode of High on Home Grown, we're serving up a mix of quirky industry moves, regulatory updates, and progress on medical access across the UK and beyond: Macky kicks things off with a slightly unexpected crossover, as the cannabis industry teams up with chefs in a push to stand out. Including one story involving mustard that definitely raised a few eyebrows. A reminder that branding and creativity are becoming just as important as the product itself. Dr. Margaret brings some serious industry news, as Aurora secures EU Community Plant Variety Rights for two of its genetics. A move that highlights how intellectual property and plant protection are becoming increasingly important in the European market. John covers political developments in the US, where a new bipartisan congressional bill aims to regulate hemp-derived products. A sharp contrast to a recent ban signed by Trump. We look at what this could mean for consumers, producers, and the wider regulatory landscape. And Smee returns to rounds things out closer to home, with news that SOSE and the Scottish Borders Council are supporting a medicinal cannabis facility in the Borders. A potentially significant step for regional development and patient access. Another packed episode blending the strange, the serious, and the genuinely promising developments shaping the industry.

In this week's episode of Grow Guides, episode 74, we're taking a hard look at some of the most common myths that confuse, frustrate, and stress out home growers, especially beginners. We break down the idea that more nutrients automatically mean bigger buds, why flushing doesn't magically fix every problem, and why yellow leaves don't always signal a deficiency. We also tackle the obsession with harvesting at a “perfect” trichome colour, and the belief that praying leaves always mean a happy, healthy plant. We dig into bigger mindset myths too! Like thinking you need expensive gear to grow top-shelf results, believing more light always equals more yield, or assuming organic grows can't go wrong. We also talk about the danger of reacting too fast to every minor issue, and the confidence-killer myth that everyone else's grow is somehow better than yours. This episode is all about cutting through noise and calming the panic. Helping you understand what actually matters in the grow room, and what you can safely ignore. Perfect listening if you've ever second-guessed yourself mid-grow or gone down a forum rabbit hole wondering what you did wrong.

In this week's interview, we see the return of Ed Tech 64! Ed has been on the show before, so make sure you check out that interview too if you enjoy this one. Ed has been growing cannabis for over 40 years, and now he is running a weekly grow class for seniors so he can help the older generation learn to grow their own medicine. We chat about his classes, his grows, his new studio, and we talk about AI and the impact it could have on the future too. A great conversation where we bounce around many different topics, as we usually do. I hope you enjoy this one, roll a few fat ones and all that, and don't forget to follow Ed on social media! Do you have any suggestions for guest on the show? Let us know by getting in touch over at Percys, or on our Discord Server!

In this week's episode of High on Home Grown, we're digging into policy, science, and some long-overdue clarity in a space that's often anything but clear: Macky leads with a deep look inside the latest medical cannabis police guidance, breaking down what patients actually need to know, how enforcement is supposed to work, and where misunderstandings still cause unnecessary problems on the ground. Dr. Margaret explores new research suggesting that irradiation does not fully degrade fungi, raising important questions about safety assumptions, quality control, and how products are being treated before reaching patients. John covers political movement in the US, where bipartisan senators are pushing to delay a proposed federal hemp THC product ban while lawmakers consider alternative regulatory approaches instead of defaulting back to prohibition-style thinking. We also discuss progress toward establishing a standard measure for cannabis use, something advocates and researchers have been calling for years, and why this could be a game-changer for education, research, and sensible policy going forward. Another packed episode cutting through confusion, challenging assumptions, and bringing much-needed context to the headlines. As always, join us on Percy's Grow Room if you want to learn more, get help with your grow, or hang out with thousands of growers just like you. Join our community here:

In this week's Grow Guides, we take a look at making THC-infused gummies for recreational and medical use. We have DC Smee joining us on the panel, as he has been making lots of gummies at home recently, so I thought we could pick his brain to figure out what method he is using, so you can follow him step by step too. We talk about the machines Smee uses, how he makes the FECO, how he infuses the gummies, and what mix he uses. Just about everything you need to know about making your own gummies at home. We also, of course, have some questions in the listener mail section of the show too. So roll a few fat ones, get super high, and enjoy this episode

In this episode, we sit down with Yellow Skunk Farms, an indoor grower doing things a little differently, and doing them exceptionally well. His setup is all-natural, built around a living soil raised bed inside his garage, complete with a small flowing water feature that helps create one of the most natural indoor growing environments we've ever seen. Yellow Skunk walks us through how the grow was designed, why he chose this approach, and what he's learned along the way. From soil biology to environmental balance, he shares practical insights and honest lessons that can help anyone looking to move toward a more natural indoor setup at home. It's a relaxed, insightful conversation with a genuinely passionate grower who's more than happy to share his experience. If you're interested in living soil, low-input growing, or just seeing what's possible when creativity meets good fundamentals, this is an interview you won't want to miss. In this week's episode of High on Home Grown, we're covering a wide mix of enforcement, research, and political moves from both sides of the Atlantic: Macky starts with a major UK bust after police seized two tonnes of cannabis during a farm raid in Blackrod, according to the BBC. A huge operation that raises familiar questions about scale, enforcement priorities, and who really pays the price when these grows get taken down. DC Smee debutes on the show and talks about a local court case from Bradford, where a man found himself in trouble after loaning his van to cannabis fly-tippers. A cautionary tale about favours gone wrong, and how easily people can get dragged into serious charges. Dr. Margaret brings some policy news from the US, as Trump signs an order expanding medical cannabis research. A potentially important move that could finally loosen long-standing restrictions on what scientists are allowed to study. We also touch on a story from Windsor, Ontario, involving a student who allegedly brought THC gummies into a school, another reminder of how education, regulation, and responsibility often lag behind reality. John wraps things up with two big US developments: Texas moving to ban smokable cannabis as early as January 25, while at the same time the US House passes a bill protecting state medical marijuana laws and rejecting an attempt to block Trump's rescheduling move. Another packed episode full of contradictions, crackdowns, and cautious progress, exactly the kind of week we've come to expect.

Another fun episode before we get back into the main swing of things next week! This weeks grow guides we discuss our predictions for 2026 and make a Bingo Card for the yearly predictions too. In this week's episode of High on Home Grown, we're covering a mix of serious reform talk, strange police encounters, and some genuinely wild crime stories: Macky opens with a strong letter arguing why it's time to legalise cannabis in the UK, laying out the case for reform and why the current system continues to fail everyone involved. He then shares a bizarre BBC News story from Penzance, where a cannabis driver reportedly asked police officers for directions, one of those moments where reality feels like some people just dont think..... There's also a quick but worrying one, as gangs are now using drones to locate and steal cannabis farms, highlighting just how far organised crime is willing to go, and how growers are having to think defensively. Dr. Margaret covers an international smuggling case, with two men facing charges for allegedly recruiting women to traffic cannabis out of Canada. A grim reminder of how exploitation still plays a role in prohibition-driven markets. And John wraps things up with political progress in the US, as a Massachusetts bill to double the marijuana possession limit and revise the regulatory framework heads to a conference committee. A move that could bring meaningful change if it clears the final hurdles. Another packed episode full of reform debates, strange decisions, and stories that sound made up but very much aren't.

In this week's Grow Guides we're mixing recovery, maintenance, future planning, and a bit of community housekeeping, the perfect reset episode after the festive chaos. We start with how to take a tolerance break without wrecking your sleep, your mood, or your routine. No monk-level discipline required, just practical ways to reset without suffering for it. Then we get into properly cleaning bongs and glassware after heavy Christmas use. Not the half-hearted rinse everyone does, but the methods that actually remove buildup, smells, and old residue so your gear tastes right again. From there we look ahead to 2026 and talk about which strains are genuinely worth your time now. Less hype, more reality, focusing on stability, quality, and what home growers are actually enjoying growing and consuming. Finally, we explain how to join Percy's Grow Room in 2026 and why it's still different from the rest. What the forum offers, how it works, and why it remains one of the best places online for growers who want real advice without ego or nonsense. A relaxed but useful episode covering reset, refresh, and what's coming next, perfect listening whether you're easing back in or planning your next run. In this week's episode of High on Home Grown, we're covering a mix of financial forecasting, legal outcomes, health policy, and youth-related research: Macky kicks things off with a forward-looking discussion on what investors should be paying attention to as we head toward 2026, following rescheduling moves in the US. Hype is everywhere, but we break down what could actually matter once the dust settles. He also covers a UK court case where a mum avoided jail after being caught smuggling £285,000 worth of cannabis into the country. A story that raises familiar questions around sentencing, motive, and how these cases are handled by the courts. John brings news from the US, where federal health programs are reportedly set to cover up to $500 worth of CBD products for certain patients by April, according to comments from Trump official Dr. Oz. If this goes ahead, it could mark a major shift in access at a national level. We also look at new research linking marijuana use in teenagers with poorer school performance and increased emotional distress. A sensitive topic that deserves nuance rather than scare headlines. Another packed episode touching on money, policy, and the real-world impacts behind the headlines.

This week's Grow Guides is a little different. No deep dives, no technical breakdowns, just a laid-back Christmas special to round out the year. We're chatting festive music and classic Christmas movies, debating the best (and worst) Christmas movies, and going on a much-needed rant about Michael Bublé and his annual takeover of the airwaves. You've been warned. To finish things off, we throw in a fun Christmas general knowledge quiz to test how much you actually know about the festive season, perfect for playing along at home. Grab a brew, put your feet up, and enjoy a relaxed Christmas episode with the HOHG crew. Normal service resumes soon.

In this week's Grow Guides we're getting seasonal and practical, focusing on the challenges that come with growing through the colder months. We kick things off with a winter and Christmas survival guide, covering how low temperatures, dry air, and slower plant metabolism can quietly cause problems if you don't adapt your setup. We also talk about grower stocking fillers and Christmas gifts that actually get used, no gimmicks, no shelf-fillers, just genuinely useful bits of kit and tools that make life easier in the grow room. From there we tackle the early harvest temptation. Chopping before Christmas might sound appealing, but rushing a plant nearly always backfires. We explain why patience pays off and what really happens when you pull a plant too early. To wrap up, we run through the most common winter grow mistakes that ruin Christmas harvests, from overwatering cold roots to ignoring humidity swings, and how to avoid turning a festive grow into a disappointing one. A timely episode packed with real-world advice to keep your winter grows healthy, stress-free, and worth the wait. In this week's episode of High on Home Grown, we're covering a mix of bizarre stories, serious research, and big political signals from around the world: Macky starts with a story that's raised more than a few eyebrows, a middle-class couple caught running a highly organised grow, claiming it was all to fund their daughter's university education. A case that sparks debate about motive, punishment, and how society views these crimes. Billy brings one of the strangest grow stories we've seen in a while, after plants were discovered growing underneath the M1 motorway in Northamptonshire. A reminder that people will grow just about anywhere… even under Britain's busiest roads. Dr. Margaret shifts gears to New Zealand, where the government is looking to cut red tape in an effort to boost its domestic hemp industry. A potentially big move for farmers and manufacturers if it plays out as planned. John covers new research suggesting that legal access is linked to reduced suicide rates among older adults — a serious and important finding that adds weight to ongoing reform debates. And finally, we look at growing signals from the US as Trump prepares to reschedule cannabis to Schedule III, a move that could reshape research, medicine, and the wider industry almost overnight. Another packed episode full of strange locations, policy shifts, and research that keeps the conversation moving forward.

In this week's Grow Guides we're digging into four problems every home grower bumps into sooner or later. First up, we break down how to properly soundproof a grow room or tent so you're not broadcasting fan noise to the whole house. Cheap fixes, smart materials, and the tricks that actually work. We also cover how to diagnose off smells in your tent, the weird, the worrying, and the ones that tell you something's going wrong long before you see it. From funky roots to failing filters, we explain what to sniff for and what each scent usually means. Then we dive into the Gas Lantern Technique (GLT) and explain what it is, why some growers swear by it, and whether it actually offers any real advantage with modern lighting. To wrap up, we go through practical ways to build a low-odor grow without spending a fortune. Simple adjustments, low-cost gear, and a few sneaky tricks to keep things discreet even late into flower. Another packed episode giving you real-world solutions to keep your grow quiet, clean, efficient and under the radar. In this week's episode of High on Home Grown, we're breaking down another set of big headlines from around the world: Macky kicks things off with a massive research milestone — over 4,000 studies published this year alone, all while Trump continues to weigh his rescheduling decision. A reminder of just how fast the science is moving, even when politics drags its feet. Billy brings big news for patients in the UK, where experts have released the first comprehensive dosing guide for medical oil products. A huge step toward safer, clearer, and more consistent treatment options for people who've been left guessing for far too long. Dr. Margaret covers an international business move as Calgary-based High Tide continues its expansion into Europe, signalling another wave of global industry growth. She also dives into a charming new study showing that CBD can help aggressive dogs calm down — great news for stressed-out pups and their equally stressed-out humans. And John wraps things up with progress in Kentucky, where the state's first medical dispensary is set to open in the next couple of weeks. The governor is already touting the program as a crucial alternative in the fight against opioid addiction, which could have a major impact across the region. Another packed episode full of science, policy shifts, and global updates — plenty to think about and plenty to discuss.

In this week's Grow Guides we're breaking down four fundamentals every home grower should understand, whether you're on your first tent or your fiftieth. We start with light intensity, what it actually does inside the plant, how to avoid blasting your tips to death, and how to find the sweet spot for strong, stress-free growth. From there we move into a beginner-friendly guide to pheno-hunting at home. No lab coats, no nonsense, just simple steps to spot your keepers, recognise the standouts early, and build your own personal stable over time. We also dig into the real science behind drying speeds. Everyone says “slow and steady,” but we explain why it matters, what's actually happening inside the flower as it dries, and how to avoid the harsh, grassy results that happen when you rush it. Finally, we break down the root-to-shoot ratio, one of the most overlooked concepts in growing. Understanding this balance will help you diagnose plant issues faster, feed more intelligently, and grow stronger plants from veg to harvest. A packed episode full of knowledge that makes your next grow smoother, smarter, and a whole lot more fun. In this week's episode of High on Home Grown, we break down some of the most eyebrow-raising headlines from across the scene: Macky opens with a strange one from the skies. Two complete strangers from Birmingham arrested and jailed for the exact same offence on a Thailand flight. He also digs into a new WBUR study claiming there are “few medical benefits” for pain, anxiety, or insomnia. Billy brings updates from Austria, where CBD flower rules are shifting yet again. These changes could shake up the whole European marketplace, and we break down what it means for consumers and small producers. Margaret covers a mysterious vomiting condition that's just been given an official WHO code after a spike in ER cases. A reminder that regulators and researchers are still scrambling to understand a condition many people have been talking about for years. John wraps things up with a major policy move in the US: a federal health agency preparing to allow CBD coverage under Medicare, boosted by a video posted by Donald Trump. If this goes through, it could shift how millions of Americans access plant-based wellness products. Another packed episode full of global updates, policy turns, and research headlines worth reading between the lines.

This week we're tackling four of the most awkward moments in home growing. We start with stubborn seeds that refuse to sprout and run through the simple checks that tell you whether they're slow, stressed or simply never going to crack. From there we get into hermies, why they happen, how to catch them early and what your realistic options are once those dreaded nanners show up. We also talk about going stealth mid-grow, because sometimes life throws a curveball and you need to make your setup disappear fast without trashing your plants. And to wrap up, we cover the right way to revive buds that dried out too much, so you can save your stash without risking mould. Quick, practical solutions for the problems no grower actually wants to admit they've had. Of course, we also have listener mail where we answer some of the questions you guys have sent in fo rthe panel, including what are our favourite types of socks.... In this weeks interview we have members special. Sometimes we like to get members of the forum and listeners of the show on to the podcast to get to know them a little more. FreeNuggz reached out recently and wanted to come on to the show to talk about addiction, mental health, and alcoholism. Plus many other things. We have a great conversation and discussed the importance of having a community to reach out to when you were feeling down, or under the pressure of life. It was a great conversation, and I hope you guys enjoy it!. I want to you to know that if any of you guys listening to the show ever feel like they need someone to talk to, you can always reach out to the community on Percys Grow Room, or on our discord server privately if you wanted to. You are not alone, always speak up if you need to! There are plenty of people in your community that will listen.

In this weeks cannabis news we have 5 stories to cover! Macky has a piece from The Independent tackling the old “you can't get addicted” claim that's been floating around for decades. Time to put the myth in the grinder and talk about what the evidence really shows. Billy follows up with UK Medical Cannabis Awareness Month, where campaigners, clinicians, and industry heads are finally pushing together to build momentum. Big names are talking, but whether anything moves in the UK… well, that's always the question. Margaret brings us a fun one from the research world: smell, not potency, is the best predictor of what people actually choose. Shocking absolutely no one who has ever stuck their nose in a jar and made a decision on instinct. Margaret also looks at Canada and a tourism wave that's waiting to explode, but only if regulators stop tripping over their own shoelaces. There's huge potential, but the rules need to grow up a bit first. And John wraps things up with an unexpected twist in the U.S.: a new GOP-backed bill that aims to reverse the hemp-derived THC ban Trump literally just signed into law. Yes, you read that correctly. A lively mix this week, science, politics, policy, tourism, and the usual roller-coaster logic that comes with trying to regulate a plant.

This week we dive into four solid grow topics you'll actually use in your everyday grow. First up, we talk about how to make proper cannabis salves at home. We chat about how she got started, and how she took her mission from childhood trauma, to homelessness, to running her own company which is The Canna Boss Babes. From activism to business, from stigma to strategy, Ishaq brings a ton of insight and plenty of good vibes. As usual, we wander into a few tangents too… personal growth, mindset, the state of the industry, and why community matters now more than ever. A proper good conversation with a guest who's doing real work. If you want to find out more about Ishaq and Cannabis Boss Babes, make sure you check out her podcast and socials!

This week's news episode is a busy one, covering big shifts in the UK, Canada, and the US, and some pretty heated developments around hemp policy. Macky brings us a heartfelt BBC story about a patient who uses medical cannabis daily but fears being judged as a “lazy stoner.” A familiar issue… and one the UK still desperately needs to move past. Billy dives into Curaleaf's new partnership with ANTG, a deal that could reshape medical product manufacturing and distribution across the UK. Big players keep moving in, but will it actually help patients? Margaret Covers a Canadian piece asking why, after years of legalization, the public still wants cannabis modernization, and why they feel the government isn't delivering. John rounds things out with major U.S. news: Trump has officially signed a bill that recriminalizes hemp-derived THC products. On top of that, Congress effectively pulled the plug on the hemp market. A massive move that's already sparking controversy. Plenty to unpack, plenty to rant about, and definitely one of those weeks where the headlines tell very different stories depending on which side of the border you're standing on.

In this week's episode of Grow Guides, we're digging into four key topics that can seriously level up your next harvest: How to Boost Trichome Production Naturally: We break down the techniques, environmental tweaks, and plant-training methods that help your buds pack on more frost without gimmicks or snake oil. Airflow and Circulation: The Secret Weapon for Stronger Plants: Good airflow does way more than stop mould. It shapes stronger stems, improves nutrient flow, and drives explosive growth. We show you how to dial it in properly. How to Reset and Reuse Your Grow Setup Between Runs: Whether you're growing in soil, coco, or hydro, we explain how to clean, sterilise, and prep your space so every new grow starts fresh and problem-free. Understanding Plant Stress: When It Helps and When It Hurts: Not all stress is bad, some of it actually boosts terpenes and trichomes. But too much can wreck your yield. Learn how to tell the difference and use stress wisely. As always, we wrap up with listener mail and community questions!
