Cannabis and cancer show notes When Dr. Joe Goldstrich's book - the Cannabis Cancer Connection - came out, we rushed to get him on the podcast. Tech difficulty after tech difficulty held that conversation from being published, but we're here with a short overview about what we discussed with one of the leading clinicians who uses cannabis to treat Cancer patients.  Dr. Joe's book came at a time when cancer is on the rise, especially for younger people so we're so excited to share this with you. In this conversation, we share the science and tools he talks about using in his practice and in the book. We'll cover: What we do and don't know about cannabis and cancer. How to use cannabis alongside conventional cancer treatments. What the science says about difficult to treat cancers and cannabis. When NOT to use cannabis, or specific cannabinoids. What cannabis products to use for cancer, and which ones to avoid.

Have you or someone you love been diagnosed with cancer? Jeff, a brave warrior in the battle against cancer, was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) at just 45 years old. Facing the daunting prospects of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, he decided to experiment with an alternative path - Full Extract Cannabis Oil (FECO). Jeff shares his experiences and insights from his seven-year journey with cannabis. He used it as a last resort before starting a six-month trial for leukemia treatment. The results were truly remarkable - he achieved almost five years of remission. Nowadays, Jeff is on a daily oral inhibitor, which he will continue taking until they either cease to work or the side effects become unbearable. His story is not just about survival but also about resilience, exploration, and hope. Throughout our conversation, we explore the details of his journey, the challenges he faced, the victories he celebrated, and the lessons he learned. We discuss the impacts of CLL, the process of producing and using FECO, and the realities of living with the side effects of cancer treatments. Technology for a future that works with Cory Feco of the DOI Foundation

Accidental Gods

The one big question that this podcast exists to answer is - what does our future look like when it works? When we endeavour to answer this, there seems quite a clear divide between those us born in the twentieth century who grew up in a world before broadband, and those born in the nineties and later who never got to know the strange weeble of the dial up tone, but instead grew in a world where their every move was dissected by their peers on social media. We can look some other time at the emotional and spiritual impact of that but today I wanted to look at the people who are determined to use the rapidly evolving technology for good. I'm going to interview someone called Grace Rachmany in a couple of weeks time. She's setting up a DAO, a disseminated autonomous organisation, to create not just a community, but a network of communities that - she says - could be free of the need to use dollars, or pounds or the currency of their nation, in 10 years.Which sounds pretty exciting. But I to understand how it works and what it is she's planning to do, we needed to know what a DAO actually is. And to get to that, we have to unpick Blockchain a bit, because the one thing I learned when we invited Reiki Cordon to speak on blockchain last summer, was that it went over a lot of people's heads. So this is the first time I've actually sought out someone on the basis that they could tell me what I wanted to hear. I wanted an idiot's guide to blockchain, to DAOs, to web 3.0 and the web 3 revolution because that seemed like something this podcast ought to know about. All of which leads me to introduce this week's guest. Cory Feco is a member of the DOI foundation which describes itself as 'an international community of communities bound by a common interest in persistent infrastructure.' Cory himself is a podcaster at the DOICast - which is one of my must-listen podcasts - I've put a link in the show notes. Beyond that, he describes himself as a web 3 impactivist, and a recovering workaholic. He started as an entrepreneur at 9 selling products from catalogs door to door and ever since have been the most satisfied when walking the path less tread. He has founded and failed, founded and sold, trained hundreds, consulted dozens, lead teams of many, lead only himself, won some awards, and made countless mistakes - and through this the one constant has been growth. He is completely plugged in to a world about which I only have a transient and shallow understanding, but I know enough to know that it could make or break our chances of a flourishing future. Advaya https://advaya.co (soon to be advaya.life) Advaya course with Nathali Nahai https://www.digitalage-course.com/DOI Foundation https://www.doi.org/DOICast podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-doicast/id1618462106CryptoWorld https://shopcryptoworld.com/DOA HQ https://www.daohq.co/EarthSong Seeds https://earthsongseeds.co.uk/

Restructuring Your Relationship with Cannabis "I wanted to make sure that I wasn't just numbing out stress during the week with cannabis so I have restructured my relationship with it. I now only use it for ceremonial purposes during the weekend to help me tune in with myself better. Now when I experience stress, I'm better at recognizing what I need to do to alleviate that anxiety like taking a break if I have too much on my calendar. If I'm just hitting the reset button every night with cannabis and not doing anything else, then how will I know what my body is trying to tell me?" - Ryan Sprague Setting Your Own Intentions with Cannabis "It's not my responsibility or my intention to tell people how to interact with cannabis or how often to interact with it. I'm here to bring awareness to how someone might interact with it consciously because I have met people who have a very healthy relationship with the plant that do use it pretty frequently and also people who interact with it only once a month that have a very unhealthy relationship with it."  - Ryan Sprague Becoming Highly Optimized: Creating a Better Life Experience "Cannabis can help us create a greater reality for ourselves by opening up our imagination. If we're able to level up our wonder and curiosity with it then we're able to go into our subconscious, look at our belief systems, and the emotions we may have attached to them. Next, we can consciously choose which ones we want to take away, translate, or flip the script on and from that new belief system have a more optimized experience of life."  - Ryan Sprague Links From Today's Show  Highly Optimized Podcast This One Time on Psychedelics Podcast Connect with Cannabis - Use the code 'JOSH' for 10% off! If you've been thinking of making your own concentrates, then this episode is for you.  Inspired by listeners who have been asking about making and using concentrates in edibles, having this knowledge can allow to make your own OR if you're buying concentrates, understand why quality matters.  I'm joined by Chase, known online as Temple Grower, a guest who knows a lot more about making concentrates than the average person.  Not only does he work in the legal cannabis industry in a lab making distillate, he is an avid cultivator, breeder, living soil advocate and concentrate maker.  He's truly a believer in growing and making your own medicine so you can take control of your high life!  Concentrates make for potent edibles and lend themselves well to many candy-making recipes. They're great for topicals, making infusions or you can also ingest them directly. Since they're so potent, a little goes a long way so be sure to start with the smallest possible dose and work your way up from there. Here are the links for this episode:Last but not least, do this outdoors or in a well-ventilated area as alcohol fumes are highly flammable!Temple Grower YouTube, Twitter & Instagram @templegrower, TempleGrowing websiteHigh On Homegrown podcastPercy's Growroom - look for Chase's (Temple Grower) living soil recipeChef Charleen Caabay likes to use concentrates in her edibles - episodeRick Simpson Oil (RSO) vs. Full Extract Cannabis Oil (FECO)Difference between types of concentrates is based on type of solvent usedEthanol - drinking alcohol, Isopropyl - 99% alcohol, Acetone - toxic, don't useConcentrated cannabis oil RSO/FECO does not preserve terpenes, tinctures can preserve terpenes Get all that solvent out - improves the taste and reduces harm from ingesting the solvent which would be counterproductiveLasts quite a while, store in syringe in the refrigerator to keep the molasses like consistencyCan use in gummies, candies, eaten directly, infused into fatsStart low and go slow - these oils are potent, proceed with cautionTest for potency by sending to a local lab, Gemmacert, tCheckBuy RSO/FECO from a legal source unless you're confident with the producer, process and have a certificate of analysis. Troy Ivan, founder of ExactCraft, on how to make the best extractions at home, the importance of “cannaflavins,” and the newest product for pain relief that you’ve never heard of (but will want to try)! This episode is sponsored by MedicalCannabisMentor.com, now offering CME courses!Extraction is a beautiful but confusing thing, especially if you’re new to cannabis. Extracted products range from the sludgy RSO (now called FECO, full extract cannabis oil) that is used to treat certain cancers, to the golden, superterpy full melt rosin, and everything in between. This episode’s guest, Troy Ivan, is a self-made expert in home extraction and he explains how people trying this at home can get the best product and highest yield with the equipment his company, ExactCraft, has perfected over the last few years. Troy is a former finance guy who, in his words, went from “extraction of the dollar to extraction of cannabis oil.” He did it in the Steve Jobs model, by spending years in his garage, learning the ins and outs of forcing those beautiful oils from the trichomes in the cleanest way possible. While extraction as a process isn’t new, citizen scientists like Troy are developing new, and surprising applications and not just with cannabinoids. Two thirds through this interview Troy talks about a revolutionary citrus peel extract that appears to relieve arthritis pain. Knowing that citrus contains high concentrations of the anti-inflammatory terpene limonene, Troy made his own grapefruit peel concentrate and then rubbed some on the stiff ankles of his 80-something year old mother. In ten minutes her pain was gone, he recalls. She continued applying it, once every few days at first, then once a week, then once a month, and now barely needs it. It seems to have relieved the condition as well as the pain. “That was what I was hoping but not what I was expecting,” says Troy. “It’s crazy how good it is.” To learn more about the citrus peel extract, go here.To learn more about extraction in generalTroy recommends these resources.extractcrafter.com/skunkpharmresearch.com/extractcraft.com/fuckcombustion.comSPECIAL OFFER If you would like a chance to sample my favorite edibles, listen to Episode 107. Modern medicine treats disease with the drugs that are effective for the majority of patients, forgetting that we are all very different individuals. What is a good choice for one patient may be ineffective or cause side effects in another. Although most patients see some improvement in using cannabis, getting the best result is a bit more complicated… I have seen patients without much knowledge or direction experience lukewarm results of medical marijuana. I have also seen those so-so results turn into remarkable improvement under the knowledgeable direction of a doctor that treats the individual patient using the correct combination/forms/amount of cannabis. In 2007 I was basically sent home to die because of my refusal to do cancer treatment. With this said, I asked my doctor to only keep me comfortable until my impending death. This started a whole new can of worms. I ended up in a narcotic fog for about 7 years. So much I missed in these 7 years. Finally at the end of 2012 I realized I wasn't dead. Robin Swan manages a company that is hands-on with herbal compounding, using the CBD to reduce inflammation in the cells and nerves. She explains that humans are designed to receive cannabinoids and that before even the industrial revolution, every whole food had hemp in it. People believe CBD is the new magic pill since it helps cure diseases, headaches, and chronic issues. However, it's not just CBD that's doing the work – the hemp plant has both THC and CBD, and an entire chain following. This means that it's the hemp in its entirety that does the work; isolating the CBD molecule does not mean a higher quality product. Robin explains that the hemp plant is a great way to restore the quality of your nerve system in a cleanse. However, it's also important to have a good diet, drink water, and sleep well to see the benefits of cannabinoids. Organic foods cannot fight synthetic foods; to see the full benefits of hemp oil, it's essential to adopt a healthy lifestyle as well. Many people mention that nothing happens after taking cannabis oil – but that's precisely it: the pain disappears, and you feel healthy. Your knee will stop hurting, you'll stop getting headaches, and you won't have many chronic illnesses. Such are the immense health benefits of the hemp plant.

John Bunker teaches us that identifying an apple tree doesn't begin with the apple, it always goes back to the root of the tree...unless it is one of the Eric Clapton apples, i.e., you immediately recognize it as a variety that you all ready know. John provides a great metaphor for recognizing apples that you have learned to instantly know, much like you would a riff from your favorite musician. The core of the issue is your knowledge base of beginning to recognize key attributes that stand out during the identification process.   Where to start? As John says it, Begin by learning at least 24 varieties. Two to learn first: Macintosh Cortland "You want to obsess over a Dingaling Sweet, not a Mac or Cortland apple." Is it a seedling tree? How old it the tree? I need to see the tree to determine if it is a seedling You learn what are the attributes or the characteristics of the tree Even a hundred years later you can see the graft. Determining the age Trunk diameter. Is it hollow. All old trees are hollow, so you can't do a core sample. " "They are coreless" Is there a pattern? Are they in rows? Can you see how they were planted? What was the distance between the trees? When you are finally ready to look at the fruit you have eliminated what it could be.   How do we then find out if what we have is a particular apple? John says, "You eliminated the pool, you are like Sherlock Holmes" Apples mentioned in this chat? I am Kathy Klotz-Guest, founder of Keeping it Human. This show airs most Thursdays at 3:30 PM PDT. Keeping it Human is about human speak, not marketing speak, that gets results. We focus on great tips and fun guests without the marketing BS.  If you're looking for jargon-monoxide poisoning, we happily recommend our competition. Cartoons Can Teach Us A Lot About Marketing In a world of too much noise, the most difficult part of reaching customers is connecting – being brief and meaningful. This is where cartoons can teach business owners, entrepreneurs, marketers tons. Those short captions that get to the whole story – yep, that's about as much time as you have to reach your audience today! Join me Thurs, September 19th, for a lively chat with cartoonist Liza Donnelly about  humor, and why marketing can learn a hell of a lot from cartoons. About LizaDonnelly Liza Donnelly is a cartoonist and writer for The New Yorker Magazine, Forbes.com and WomensEnews.org. As a public speaker, she delivered a very popular TED talk, and travels as a cultural envoy for the US State Department. Donnelly is the author/editor of fifteen books, among them When Do They Serve The Wine?;  Funny Ladies: The New Yorker's Greatest Women Cartoonists and Their Cartoons,  a history of women cartoonists.

Substrate effect on the growth of iron clusters in Y zeolite

Investigation of the decomposition process and of the thermolytic products obtained from Fe(CO)5/faujasite adducts by thermogravimetric, IR-spectroscopic, Mössbauer spectroscopic and X-ray absorption measurements (EXAFS) provides evidence for a substrate effect on the growth process of iron clusters. CsY substrate increases the Fe---CO bond strength. The stabilized intermediates generated by this effect upon thermolysis at 500 K are easily oxidized to small iron(III) oxide clusters, whereas with NaY substrate to a large extent iron(O) particles are generated. The latter show Mössbauer effect and EXAFS spectra comparable to those obtained from bulk iron. An inner oxidation process is assumed to be involved in the generation of the zeolite-supported iron oxide.

Thermal decomposition in a thermobalance of Fe(CO)5 adsorbed on alkali-metal, hydrogen-Y, dealuminated Y, L and omega zeolites proceeds stepwise via slow decarbonylation at low and high temperatures, separated by a fast endothermic reaction. Average CO/Fe ratios have been determined after each step. From i.r. results the former intermediates are assigned to species bearing bridging CO, whereas reaction products with CO/Fe < 1 are associated with highly unsaturated carbonyl clusters in strong interaction with the zeolite. The thermal stability of zeolite/Fe(CO)5 adducts as well as of the intermediates increases with the electron-donor properties of the matrix and can be rationalized using the Sanderson electronegativity concept. Iron loadings ranging from 2.4 wt % in zeolite L up to 10 wt % with NaY and HY are obtained by decomposition in inert atmosphere. Under vacuum conditions loss of metal up to 50% is observed. Metallic iron clusters are the final decomposition products in alkali-metal zeolites, as probed by NO adsorption. In HY part of the metallic iron is oxidized to FeII ions, which are located at cation positions.

The adsorption isotherms of Fe(CO)5 on NaY, HY and Linde L zeolites obtained in McBain balances show micropore adsorption, whereas additional capillary condensation is found with zeolite omega and Na-mordenite. The pores and/or cages of the zeolites studied are completely filled with the complex upon saturation, with the exception of Na-mordenite. Their behaviour is explained, respectively, by pore blocking and the occurrence of channel openings that are too narrow. The silicalite channel system also is too narrow to accept Fe(CO)5 molecules.Infrared results show that an increasing interaction of the complex with faujasites exists in the sequence: dealuminated Y < CsY < HY < NaY. This is derived from the increasing band half-width of the adsorbed complex in the CO stretching region and from the increasing intensity of the v1 vibration, which upon adsorption becomes i.r. active. The interaction is assumed to be influenced mainly by electrostatic fields in the cages or pores, which can lead to a very restricted mobility for the encaged complex. The complex seems to remain intact upon adsorption at 293 K in all the zeolites studied.
