Bookended by choice cuts from a 2000 BBC radio session, this bonus episode covers: the name "horse", a very affordable concert of Welsh music Geraint saw 25 years ago, inconclusive analyses of Noel and Liam's present stations in life, horse liberating Noel G demo tapes from private collectors, Noel G "liberating" lyrics and melodies from Scouse rockers The Real People (no relation), the baffling continued existence of Toploader, Jack's comprehensive (well, abandoned after going through the Creation Records wikipedia page) list of good post-70s British bands, Liam's solo career and falsetto-singing aptitude and Jack and horse's in-the-flesh encounters with Noel and Liam.
British Invasion! Not really, but songs by Brits, plus how to deal with worrying and rumination. And a 4-part exercise that can help keep worrying at bay. Born from a fever dream, Mark had the idea to review records found in poundland. You used to be able to get some primo garbage for a quid. Sadly, you can no longer buy CDs in poundland but the memory lives on. To that end, we thought it'd be fun to revisit the first in our series called Sound is a Pound. And on episode one, we reviewed Onka's Big Moka by Toploader. Very funny stuff. Dig in.
Amy and Chris are reporting all the action live from the 233rd Icklewick Agricultural Festival! As the festival's newly crowned “Lady Muck”, Amy is preoccupied with her upcoming performance at the closing ceremony. Whilst first time camper, Chris is trying his best to embrace the countryside in all its beautiful, harrowing glory. Ever the renaissance man, Mr Patel has decided to try his hand at hospitality, which should be simple as long as his customers remember to eat around the teeth. The extortionate cost of a festival pint sets Simon Toke spiraling but will he make it back in time to interview Toploader, and will Amy be able to overcome her nerves and save Icklewick from another year of blight?Mr. Patel has managed to get a special sponsor for this episode. Arrancamos la semana con el Pop dulce de Toploader y su "Dancing In The Moonlight", una canción marcada con el sonido del mejor Pop de los 2000.
I caught up with the front man and keyboard player of the band Toploader ahead of their performance at the LOADED concert at Irish Village on November. We talked about how the group started and what the band is working on right now. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
These might not be the results that Nick and Trev were expecting - but you have spoken, and we are but humble conduits for your collective wisdom and good judgement. Digressions include the fourth funniest joke at the Edinburgh Fringe, a university course on the activism of Bad Bunny, the cultural milieu of Montreal, a defence of Toploader, and the thriving underground subculture of "chipdonk". It's been a good week for Torquay United with two more signings announced - Jack Stobbs and Bradley Ash - and the Podcasters take a look at what that means to Gary Johnson's growing squad. The dogs get involved as Richard Hughes and Guy Henderson talk about the squad, and some speculation surrounding assistant manager Aaron Downes, and where Torquay might be playing their friendlies after it turned out they will be welcoming Exeter City, but won't be going to Buckland Athletic this summer. There is more tunnel fun as Guy talks about the second five teams in our alphabetical journey around the National South. Mick Jagger, Toploader and Farnborough's finest guitar heroes Mega City Four, and lots of former Gulls, all feature. The sun's out - enjoy it. You could put the Podcast on your walkman, but you will need a C45 tape for this one. However you listen, till next time, all together now: "Come on You Yellows."

Technical difficulties tried to prevent us from brining this episode to you, but if you've listened to us for any length of time you know that nothing holds us back! This week, we were supposed to be joined by Dayton from the Dockingbay77 podcast but his internet prevented that. Luckily, we have plenty of experienced podcasters in the family, so we called on Lauren from Beer'd Al Podcast to help us with this one. Lauren sits down as we stare down another Totally Epic Cover Battle. This time out, the band King Harvest takes on the band Toploader in a battle over who gave us the best rendition of "Dancing In The Moonlight". It's Season 7 Episode 10 of your favorite accordion players favorite podcast, the Infectious Groove Podcast.

After what can only be described as a 'difficult' 24 hours for the Welsh there were worries that Elis would be sighing his way through the show, but thankfully his ever dependent strike partner J. Robins picked him up and got him playing at his best. Steve 'The Crossman' Crossman drops by for a Made Up Game, there's an avian Unsung Sporting Hero and the guys hear from the 1980 North West Regional Angling Champion.

Remember that you can always get in touch with us on our Facebook page, on Twitter, or with our Contact page.Don't forget to check the chapters tab in your podcatcher. This is a thing we're doing now, so keep an eye open for those.---Remember when I talked about how we should ditch the gatekeepers back in April - check your podcatcher for a link - Well, it's now time to talk about the other aspect of gatekeeping: entitlement - specifically about how some gamers feel entitled to something _because_ they play games. As with gatekeepers, it's all nonsense.Series IntroThis is The Waffling Taylors Raw with Jay, a series of shorter episodes of indefinite length. These episodes will cover shorter topics which don't really fit will within the scope of the show, or topics that I want to cover in my own way. That's not to say that we won't cover these topics in the main show, but I'd like to take a whack at them here, first.I can't guarantee that all of these shorter episodes will be as deep or technical as this one. But I wanted to start big.Anyway, let's get to it.Entitlement in GamingThere are lots of definitions of entitlement, but this is the one that I'm going to use for this episode:the feeling that you have the right to do or have what you want without having to work for it or deserve it, just because of who you are- Cambridge DictionaryI'm sure that we all know someone who behaves as though they are entitled to something that they might not actually be entitled to. But this episode is all about the folks who have that sense of entitlement specifically because they are gamers.I'm sure you've seen something like this in the past:I've bought and played every entry in this series, and they need to make another one because I want them to- some twitter userIf you remember the fall out from the ending of the Mass Effect trilogy, you'll have seen this when the fans rallied around and forced EA to create a different ending to the game because they didn't like the original. This is an example of entitlement by gamers - although there's more to it than just that - I take the stance that games have the ability to be art (especially story-driven ones) after all, someone - or a team of someones - has to write the story, and stories are art. There's an argument here about whether the creator has the final say in the art that they create, or whether it should be down to the consumers of that art. But that's for smarter people than me to talk about. The point that I'm attempting to drive towards - and remember, all of this is my opinion - is that you aren't entitled to anything simply because you play video games. To explain why let's talk about how games development companies work.Games Development Companies Are Businesses FirstSo, the first thing that you need to know about games development companies is that they are businesses first and foremost. This means that they have someone - or a group of someones - overlooking almost every decision that the company makes, to ensure that they make the most profit possible. And that's another thing that I feel most gamers forget: almost every company on the planet aims to make as much profit for as little investment as possible. To quote my good friend Steve Worthy:Focus on WIN: What's Important Now?- Steve WorthyAs a side note: if you're interested in business and how to be better at leadership, you should listen to his podcast: Retail Leadership with Steve Worthy - check your podcatcher for a link. This means that a company should always be looking at what is important now, and for the majority of games development companies it isn't the developers, designers, and artists who decide what "important" means. That decision is made by the shareholders, whose main goal is for the company to make money. Whilst the employees of the development company might want to create theGreatest game evar!- some game developerthe shareholders might want to release something as soon as possible in order to get that important injection of cash.I hate to bring up Cyberpunk 2077, but I just did. To be fair, that particular title had a _lot_ of problems, the least of which was the rush to release it for Christmas 2020.Full Show NotesA full transcript of this "raw with Jay" episode is available over in the full show notes - because there are loads of books you can read, and web resources. How do you feel about gamer entitlement? Am I just having an "old man shouts at the clouds moment"? Did you catch the completely coincidental Twitter exchange that I had with TopLoader over on Twitter about this very subject? Would you like to hear more rants... I mean Raw with Jays?Let us know on Twitter, Facebook, leave a comment on the show notes or try our brand new contact page. And have you left us a rating or review? May, 2001, Ireland. Two men arrive late in the morning on a cold and empty east coast beach. They are hungover. They are limping. They look at each other squinting. “This is it” one mumbled. “It’s done… Time to put on those headphones one last time…” It wasn’t one last time. Adgeen and Tony were back! And the Friday Rock Show ‘Brittas Bay’ special of ’01 was a masterclass in how to bottle a beautiful bowel movement. But they got by with a little help from their financially-induced friends. Dave O’Leary, Stephen Hawking, Ciaran Brennan, Neddy Tafler, Mr. Mellon, Gabbler, Leo McGregor and Paul Gombatuna all lent a well-remunerated hand in bringing the Friday Rock Show back on the air. Holding court among the bemused lobster-fleshed locals, bubbling farts in their ‘Rock Jacuzzi’, Adgeen and Tony sat on a Wicklow beach to present the first Friday Rock Show of the new millennium. They splash around, gurn, writhe and slap each other senseless in this epic summer special on Brittas Bay, Ireland’s ‘Premier Beach Attraction’ so someone says. You’ll hear some quite outlandish communiqués from our listeners. Jagger nearly spills hash into his pint while watching Celine gyrate beside his armchair. Neddy is so horny, his cock might explode as he soon gets his conquest ‘up the duff’. Baldy travels down to Wexford to fall in love with Becks from Coolgreany and proceeds to eat all her food. Then there’s Karen McGaa, who starts work at the ‘Donation Station’ in a sperm bank, soon to be hypnotised by Quentin’s larger-than-expected contribution. Finally there’s Gerry Dixon, who’s very angry at the ‘First Wives Club’ of his local GAA community, spitefully telling us they’re all ‘skulling back pints’, ‘riding in tractor sheds’ and ‘building a house next to the ‘mammy’’. Witness more spots than you can flick a snot at, with Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, Gabbler’s Sci-Fi Spot, The Tune The Box Spat Out, Don’t Fuck Up The Microphone and a bevy of promotional adverts to pick the sand out of your crack to. Adgeen and Tony dance in the moonlight with Toploader, roll with Limp Bizkit, go loco with the Fun Lovin’ Criminals, steal some sunshine with Len and play sssshhpiderman with The Ramones! And even the sun briefly came out too. It’s a mighty soggy sandcastle of a show. So throw down your towel and let The Friday Rock Show lash the air off your pimply blue skin with our Brittas Bay Special from 2001. Dazu gibt es wieder Hits…Hits…Hits, obwohl David „Ich hab nen guten Musikgeschmack“ Grashoff unsere Spotify Playlist sabotieren will! Nix da mit Neustürzende Einbauten, Fabi versteht eh kein SKA, da bleiben wir lieber sober! Danke fürs Reinhören, bleibt gesund, viel Liebe!! Gotta catch em all!! F+J

Today we talk all things Rock n Roll and Launceston with Martyn Callwood or Callwoods Music. Martyn had been lucky enough to work with the likes of UB40, Soul II Soul, Happy Monday's, Toploader and many more. Now back home in Launceston he feels it's his time to pass on his experience and has set up School of Rock. More about Martyn can be found at www.callwoodsmusic.com Enjoy!

Look, Christmas is a time for giving. And also for drinking. And also also for airing semi-coherent nonsensical opinions. On this episode we some how many to cover all three. No more phone calls from Mark’s dad though. So that’s a thing. We take some more questions, go on some tangents, and then we resurrect Sound as a Pound (we will make this a regular mini-episode at some point in 2020, promise) as we each give the gift of a £1 to album to one another. The results are…well, the range from good to absolute Toploader level trash. Side note: we rambled so much nonsense when recording this that it is now morphed into a 3 parter. Xmas, it seems, really will last until January 6th. In case you missed it, find Part One here: https://www.unsungpod.net/episodes/episode-101-the-2019-xmas-xtravaganza-side-a

The start of the new season is coming, and we can't wait. Clubs are announcing stellar line-ups left, right and centre – with top throwback acts ranging from the Vengaboys to Toploader coming to the city. In other news, there are loads of restaurants opening including a French eatery where moustaches are encouraged, much to the delight of hirsute Branded Content Editor Darragh Murphy. Meanwhile, Deputy Editor Amy Mathieson and Digital Editor Scott Campbell disagree over the real definition of a pie (is it fully enclosed or not?) while the team is horrified as Darragh makes a shocking revelation about the time he spat Christmas mincemeat over his beloved aunt. You've got all that and more to look forward to in this week's episode of Straight From The Camel's Mouth – the 25th in the series.

This week comedian Nish Kumar joins us in the ‘Quickly Kevin…’ studio to discuss ‘Premier Passions’, the documentary series following Sunderland and then manager Peter Reid’s retrospectively harrowing attempt to establish the club as a Premier League force in the late 90’s. A fly on the wall look at how precisely NOT to run a football club, where boardroom level concerns about bathroom fixtures and Terence Conran designed stadium interiors took precedent over signing a striker capable of competing in the highest division. There are, unsurprisingly, more lows than highs, as the aspirations of club, manager and fans slowly turn to dread with the same traumatically inevitable sense of doom one gets from watching Denis Irwin and Brian McClair double teaming David Busst circa 1996. You can find the episodes we watched here… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbPKFiKE4-A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XRiu_z9f10 It was so brilliantly bleak we only managed to watch two of the five episodes, and given the choice of watching the remaining three or being forced to drown a sack of kittens at gunpoint whilst footage of all England’s penalty misses in the 90’s played on loop in the background, we’d obviously choose to watch the remaining episodes. But only just…. There is also an unbelievable story about 90’s legend and Dube maestro Dion Dublin crossing paths with perennial landfill-indie whipping boys, Toploader. Efan Ekoku makes an obligatory (blink and you’ll miss it) cameo mention, plus all the usual correspondence, features, and items you’ve come to endure like the squad player nobody is ever excited to see warming up on the side-lines. Yes, that means you, Darren Caskey. As always, to get in touch with the show and keep up to date on all the latest news…. Email: hello@quicklykevin.com Twitter: @QuicklyKevin Facebook: Quickly Kevin And don't forget: instagram.com/quicklykevin AND LASTLY! Go on iTunes. Think of the most niche 90s footballer you can. Leave a review which mentions them. We'll read our favourites and the best will make an appearance in the following weeks show. (We’re contractually obliged to say the review doesn’t need to be 5 stars, but you’ve got as much chance getting picked as Steve Bruce did getting a senior cap for England if you don’t leave a five star review. As much chance getting picked as Kevin Keegan did at holding onto a 12 point lead at the top of the table if…..you get the idea) Enjoy the show and we are back next week for episode nine. Please join Marc, Bob and Craig for the latest episode of PROGTOR WHO; Where WHO and PROG collide… Bob is hosting this and we review the missing series 4 William Hartnell adventure, The Myth Makers. We talk about the latest news, read out our awesome listener’s feedback to the story and have a quiz. As usually, we play 3 great songs for you, this time from Toploader, The Dear Hunter and this week’s MYSTERY LEFT FIELD CHOICE…. We hope you enjoy the latest edition of, Progtor Who x
Despite a few technical gaffes, my little sister joined me in studio, all the way from Toronto. We started off with A Piece of Elise. Adam called in from Georgetown to tell us how his wisdom teeth surgery went, and we played his wonderful cover version of 'Creep'. Brian K, the BKay, dropped in for the second half of the show as we discussed Plenty Of Fish, Randy "Macho Man" Savage's rap album, and the reason why me and my sister no longer sleep in the same bedroom. Also on the show: Elise sings along with Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas' Noize Productions is in the hizz-ouse! DJ Mashup: Moldy Peaches vs. Jay-Z YO! Elise Raps! Julien recounts the time he tried to give away his hair and toenail clippings on the air... and a bunch of other crap...
