Freedom of Leadership 5-Actions to Help You Lead Yourself Tracy Washington Executive Leadership Advisor We are discussing how to be a leader of yourself, on the job, in your home and the marketplace. It is difficult to lead others if you do not know how to direct yourself. Jesus Christ is our perfect example a true servant-leader who governed himself with restraint and excellence. Our guest Tracy Washington is one of the nation’s leading trainers on Relationships, Human Behavior and Leadership. She states, “Leadership is an influence. Our position is to become someone that someone else wants to follow.” Tracy works with mid to senior level managers to help them improve relationships with teams, upper management, and customers so that they establish trust and respect that create a culture of profitability and success for themselves and their organizations. She also runs a coaching program entitled “Executive RoundTable for Women in Leadership” to help women leaders elevate their leadership style. Tracy is passionate about helping individuals and corporate clients profit by experiencing better professional and personal relationships. Ms. Washington helps women find their true passions in order to reach their full potential. She states, “A woman that can make things happen understands they have power. Some feel like an imposter, but the feeling never goes away. We must walk with it, learn how to manage it and walk in confidence. “ Her key points of learning how to lead yourself are below: 1. Self-care is first. You can’t get anything done from a deficit. As women, we give of ourselves without giving back to ourselves. Take care of yourself so you can properly care for others. 2. Know who you are. Do a personal assessment so you understand your unique qualities and identity in Christ. Understand that you are more than the roles you play. Take the time to figure out who you are. 3. Inventory the relationships around you. Evaluate everyone in your life. Are you spending time with people who don’t add value to you? Are they pouring into you are taking from you? 4. Raise your level of success. Look at the things that you don’t have to increase your worth. Invest in classes, coaching and read to help you get to your next level of success. Look at your finances and be a good steward. 5. Don’t compare yourself to others. Get a mirror and look at your reflection. Appreciate who you are and where you are at this moment. You can reach Tracy Washington at her office or on social media. Destined to be Free: 4-Secrets to Boost Your Confidence Catherine Storing, Founder of Styling Faith We need confidence to live for Christ. Hebrews 10:35 states, “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward.” (KJV) Confidence unlocks the rewards God has stored up for us. Our guest, Catherine Storing, dishes on the secrets to building your confidence. Catherine Storing is the founder of Styling Faith. Styling Faith is a business offering Confidence Coaching and Stylist Services to women who want a complete makeover. She is a two-time Amazon Best-selling author and a TEDx Boston speaker in 2016. As a Life Stylist, she offers comprehensive methodologies to help her clients define and show off all their talents. Styling Faith currently offers a few pre-packaged programs, informational products as well as one-on-one coaching and styling sessions. She states, “Everything is perfect in God’s eyes. We must embrace the gifts he has given us and have the confidence to operate in them. It is an insult to God when we don’t use our gifts.” Her secrets to building confidence include the following: 1. Realize you are exactly who you need to be. You have everything you need to walk in your purpose. 2. Pray and move. Faith without works is pointless. Seek God for direction and then act on what he tells you to do. 3. Be authentic. Don’t try to mimic others. People can tell when you are acting like someone else. 4. You are called to connect with a certain number of people. You will connect with the right people when you are true to who God created you to be. Thank you again for joining us. Angela Howell, author, and transformation coach states, “When I am content with myself, I am more content with others.” She is the author of "Finding the Gift: Daily Meditations for Mindfulness," which was quickly featured in the Tennessean‘s top ten best-sellers list five weeks in a row. Angela considers her award-winning, twelve-year career in corporate sales and eating disorder recovery journey two of her greatest teachers. Passionate about wellness and success, she has been seen in Fast Company, Cosmopolitan and Yahoo News, and is a regular contributor to Huffington Post. Angela is devoted to inspiring people to find renewed passions for living, loving, working and playing. And of course, just being! Hear the voice of God and your spirit for direction and cues to what your body needs. 3. Take action. Follow the direction from God for your life. Incorporate a daily regimen of self-care and wellness. 4. Practice the method of mindfulness. Be aware of your thoughts, actions, and language throughout the day without judging yourself. Relationships: Love Your Body in 4-Steps Tina Moore Brown, Founder DanceN2Shape As we continue our discussion on relationships, self-image is an important topic. Body shaming is on the rise in media today. However, as women of faith, we must present our bodies as a living sacrifice to God (Romans 12:1). A positive body-image builds our confidence and helps us to be achievers for Christ. Ms. Tina Moore Brown of DanceN2Shape. She has danced all of her life. It was natural for her to use it as tool to empower women and build their confidence. Ms. Brown is an author, confidence coach and licensed group fitness instructor. It has been said that exercise profits a little, but it is still beneficial for our health. We need to be active for at least 30 minutes a day. Studies show that exercise helps to lower our blood pressure and lighten our moods. Ms. Brown created her program, GET TIGHT, from her personal pain of financial strain, verbal abuse and emotional stress. Known as the “exercise girl,” she was not moving her body enough and began to eat more fast food. Reaching her tipping point, she decided to reclaim her life and created a program to bring her mind and body into subjection to God. Below are a few tips she shared to help you snap into shape: 1. Affirm yourself – Stop the negative self-talk and speak affirmations. Post sticky notes on your mirror and recite positive words to yourself at the start and end of your day. 2. Get moving – Exercise your body for at least 30 minutes a day by walking, dancing or stretching. 3. Set aside time to read the Bible and pray – Study the word each day and begin with a scripture. 4. Organize your day and evening by establishing a routine – Start with beginning grateful and end with being reflective on the blessings of your day. Finally, self-care is crucial for women to have the energy needed to be productive. Financial Literacy Month Creating Wealth Kathy Williams, Founding CEO Advance Financial Lighthouse, Inc. Creating wealth begins with the way we view money. The first step to create wealth is to change our mindset, which impacts our behaviors. My guest this week, Kathy Williams, is the Founding CEO of Advance Financial Lighthouse, Inc. Kathy has over 35 years of experience helping clients reach their financial goals. She states, “We must stop thinking with a scarcity mindset by saying, ‘I don’t have money.’ You can change your lifestyle.” Kathy provides comprehensive investment management and financial planning advice to affluent and emerging affluent women entrepreneurs, professionals, widows, divorcees, single individuals and families. Ms. Williams specializes in working with those who have come through a life transition such as retirement, divorce or loss of a spouse. She is widely recognized for her work with women. Ms. Williams states, “The average age of a woman widow is 57 years of age. The children are gone, their income is limited and they do not have social security.” She encourages women to take care of their own wealth. Kathy provides several strategies for women to prepare for their financial futures below: 1. Purchase insurance, life, short-term disability and long term care insurance to protect your assets and provide when you cannot earn an income. 2. Pay yourself first and save at least 20% of your gross income. 3. Save at least 4 to 6 months of your salary for an emergency fund. 4. Eliminate unnecessary spending, i.e. bring your lunch to work and make coffee at home. 5. Invest the maximum allowed in your employee based savings plan or 401k every year. Heart Health MonthAngeline Lawrence Host Shine & Grind PodcastFebruary is Heart Health Month. According to #Go Red for Women, heart disease is the number killer of women in American. The website, www.Goredforwomen.org states that 1 in 3 women die from heart disease a year. During this month’s episode we will discuss the health of our spirit (inner man), physical and mental well-being. We start off with a discussion on rooting out bitterness. Life can kick us in the gut at times, but we must learn how to recover without allowing the seeds of resentment to plant itself within the foundation of our spirits. Hebrews 12:15 states, “looking carefully least anyone fall short of the grace of God; least any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;” (New Kings James Version) True resilience is the ability to endure tough times without it changing the core of who you are in a negative way. Our struggles should make us stronger, not weaken us. Key takeaways include: · Never internalize personal attacks · Learn instantaneous forgiveness · Acknowledge your pain and embrace it · Confess your feelings to God · Praising God is fuel to recharge your spirit · We strive to produce the Godly behaviors of the Spirit It is urgent that we position ourselves to bring forth the positive behaviors of the Spirit, such as kindness, patience, longsuffering, forbearance and peace. Our walk with God is a lifetime commitment. Preparation includes our total being to successfully run a marathon of faith. We will get a reward that is priceless. Servant or Self-Serving by Angeline Lawrence Today I want to pose a question to the women (and men) of faith that are in the trenches for Christ. Do you need a title and/or acknowledgement from others to fulfill the ministry God has placed in your life? I must confess that for years I hesitated to work in my ministry because I believed I needed a formal title. I was given a wakeup call by God one day that changed my life. He let me know, through the Holy Spirit, that I did not need title. I only needed him. Jesus, again, serves as the high standard of faith. He was consumed with completing the mission of God, but did it with humility. Listen in as I discuss Philippians 2:7 regarding the way we should serve God. Are we his servants or are we just self-serving? Thanks again for listening. Start today by subscribing to the podcast here. Watching Over the Vision By: Angeline Lawrence The job of a visionary does not end with simply writing down the plan. The hard part is getting a great team to help execute it. We can learn how to watch over the vision from some of the great leaders mentioned in the Word of God. One of the most renowned female leaders of Israel was Deborah, a powerful woman of God that was a judge over the people of Israel. Deborah charged Barak to fulfill the order given by God to lead an army of men to attack the nation’s enemy. He responded in Judges 4:8, “Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.” The most talented people on a team will still need the support of their leaders to get the job done. In addition, God watches over every word he speaks to man as stated in Jeremiah 1:12. He positions his spirit-filled leaders to execute his vision and intercede on his behalf. Leadership under Pressure By: Angeline Lawrence Leadership always comes with a price. Many of us will face adversity as we seek to lead others in the right path. However, our position as leaders is a great opportunity for us to glorify God. We must remember to exude confidence and integrity when we are under pressure. Listen in today as I discuss the steps to be a leader under pressure. God is our secret weapon and if we stand on his promises, then he will work on our behalf every time. Psalms 37:7 states, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”(NIV) God makes the final decision, so if he elevates us, then he will watch over us and help us win. Change Your Mindset By: Angeline Lawrence Our mindset determines our success in walking with Christ. If we allow a negative and self-willed mindset to determine our actions then we are in serious trouble. Obtaining the mind of Christ is not a task, but a process. Love Your Enemiesby: Angeline Lawrence, Host Being on the receiving end of taunts and bullying can be detrimental to our physical, mental and spiritual well-being. As Christians, many of us were not built to give great comebacks when insulted. Christ taught his disciples to love everyone, especially their enemies because he held them to a higher standard of righteousness. Matthew 5:44 states, “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” (NIV) Christ taught them that true faith in God was more than the observance of laws and ordinances. Christ emphasized the importance of displaying the same characteristics of compassion, equity and virtue as the Creator. The ability to pray for individuals who work against us embodies great strength and righteousness. Our Creator bestows His love and blessings upon everyone, even individuals that do not obey His Word. We must learn to love the people that hate us. In honor of one of the greatest civil rights leaders in the history of America, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stated, “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend.” Thanks again for joining me on the Shine and Grind Show. My Sister's KeeperAngeline Lawrence, HostMany of us have fallen short in some area of our life as Christians. Christ was adamant that we not judge others. Matthew 7:1 states, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” (NIV) Rather, we should restore our sisters in the faith who have made mistakes, than ostracize them. Believers in the New Testament church were taught to help those that were weaker in the faith than they were. Of course we must discern the situation and use wisdom. While some individuals are remorseful and want to rebuild their faith, there are others that are the opposite. Today, I will talk about ways to help individuals that have failed in their walk of faith, but need help to overcome. (Galatians 6:1) As members of the Kingdom of God who are strong, it is our duty to help restore them with love and gentleness. Romans 15:1 states, “We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.” (NIV) Thanks again for joining me on the Shine and Grind Show. Rejecting Disruptive Peopleby: Angeline Lawrence, HostWalking with God can be a lonely path at times. I know God will never leave us, but having a brother/sister in the faith we can relate to is priceless. Occasionally, we will connect to other believers that seem to be our friends, but in reality they are more like “Frenemies” who seek to gossip about us. Today, I want to talk about rejecting individuals that are self-serving trouble makers. We can all identify with the “busy body,” who will chase the sincere believers away because of the confusion they cause. II Thessalonians 3:6 states, “In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us.” (NIV) Oftentimes, letting go of close relationships can be difficult. Especially when it is a person that you consider to be a friend. However, it is important to stay clear of individuals who keep up confusion. They are not about working on our Father’s business because they are prying in the business of others. Thanks again for joining me on the Shine and Grind Show. I have a special offer for Shine and Grind listeners for the pre-sell of my book, "The Working Women's Guide to Winning: Defeat Satan at His Own Game with Integrity,” which will be published in 2015. Overcoming FearAngeline Lawrence, Host In past episodes, I discussed the love God has for us. If that love is strong and without any fear, then we are unstoppable. Fear is defined as an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger. It does not have to be an actual threat, but our anticipation of a threat. Fear can paralyze us and hinder our faith walk. We must overcome the fear to show that we’ll obey the voice of God regardless of the situation. Ultimately, our love for God is shown through obedience to Him. Yes, we may naturally have concerns when God is taking us through an experience in our lives that is new. Yet, we must obey his Word and follow his voice so that our love is perfect. I John 4:18 “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” (NIV) Listen in as I discuss overcoming fear. Thanks again for joining me and Happy New Year. The Power of Self Reflection By: Angeline Lawrence It’s hard to believe that 2014 is almost over. As many of us have a break over the holidays, it’s a prime opportunity to evaluate ourselves against the Word of God. James 1:23-24 states, ”Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.” (NIV) As Christians, our lives can be living examples of the goodness and morality of God. We must constantly reflect upon our character in order to grow. Believing in Christ is just the beginning. We must emulate Him and seek to have his mindset. The Gift that Keeps GivingBy: Angeline LawrenceIt's that time of year and everyone is busy making their holiday plans. However, let's pause to remember the true meaning of this holiday season. The salvation of Christ is a gift to mankind from God. Our access to that gift begins with the Holy Spirit. Once we have received the gift, we are endowed with supernatural abilities, such as healing, prophecy, and faith to name a few.On the other hand, I Corinthians 13:2 states, “If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.”(NIV)If we operate in our gifts without manifesting the love of God, we are just noise makers (I Corinthians 13:1). Seeking to bear the fruit of the Spirit will magnify our gifts and enable us to be acceptable in the sight of God. Jesus taught his disciples in John 15:5, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (KJV) The gifts of the spirit are diverse but the true blessing is in the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 states, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”(KJV)As we reflect on this year let us consider the fruit of the Spirit that is produced through our lives as Christians. I Corinthians 13:3 states, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”Thank you again for joining me. Being a Good Team Memberby: Angeline Lawrence A team can’t work together without effective communication and the sacrifice and endurance of its members. As fellow Christians, we must seek to work together and be unified as we build God’s kingdom. I Corinthians 1:10 states, “I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.” (NIV) So how do we unite the thoughts of a group of people that are from various backgrounds? Although we're united by the Holy Spirit, there are still some steps needed to achieve oneness in mind and thought. Listen in as I discuss some of the ways to become a good team member. Teamwork Makes the Vision Work By: Angeline Lawrence The Body of Christ is the vision that God has for His kingdom. I Corinthians 12:3, states, “Even so the body is not made up of one part but many.” (NIV) It is a work of beauty to see the members of the kingdom of God work together in one accord (Psalms 133:1-2). He executes his master plan to fulfill his will within our lives. Today I discuss the importance of being a member of this divine team. We should not look at the leaders and ministers that are in the forefront of the Kingdom and feel excluded. I Corinthians 12:18 states, “But in fact God has placed the parts of the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.” (NIV) Each member has an important role. We must stay ready and be in a position for God’s purpose. Thank you again for listening. How deep is Your Love? By: Angeline Lawrence The love that Christ has for us is immeasurable. However, we must show Him the depth of our love through the sacrifices we make in our lives. Matthew 10:38, states, “And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.” (KJV) All of Christ’s followers had to prove they could love him more than anything, including money, possessions and ultimately family. We must be willing to lose our current lifestyle, and sometimes friends and family to truly walk with Christ. Listen in as I talk about loving Christ above all things in our lives. We must stay focused by eliminating distractions that will side track us from following Christ. Thank you again for listening.
