Have you ever had an idea for a pet product and wondered how to take it to market? Then tune in because in episode 306 I'm talking to Alex McKinnon of Kinn Inc, who has successfully taken a bunch of products to market that help doggy daycare and boarding businesses save time and money, have sustainabilty at the heart of the design AND also employs disadvantaged people. Alex was born in Florida, but travelled all over the US, and ended up at Duke University where he studied History and Spanish. His passion for all things Spanish led to him moving to Barcelona where he worked in a coffee shop before being hired by Braun to work on product innovation. He went back to the USA to study and got his MBA in international business and finance, before working and living in Germany working on Brauns coffee products division. In 2011, after moving back to the USA Alex discovered that a lot of vets were struggling to give dogs medication, so he developed a pill crushing product. Through further research with his vet friend, Alex discovered that simply putting a dog bowl in a dishwasher doesn't kill salmonella and a bunch of stomach viruses, which ultimitely led to the creating of Kinns flaghip product, the Kleanbowl. Alex talks us through the whole Kleanbowl joureny, including the research, design, manufacture and marketing of his amazing product. Tune in to discover; * The value of doing time studies in your pet business to see where you, and your staff can be more efficient * How speaking to client about the problems they are facing will lead you to develop a profitable pet product solution * Why pet production innovation is about product iterration, as you'll rarely get it 100% right the first time. * The breakthrough moment when Alex realised he was in the time and money saving buiness, rather than the sanitation and environmental business. * How the right kind of feeding bowl can change the canine world! Alex is a super smart and passionate pet professional and you'll get SO much value from hearing his inspirational story. The Story Shared: Darius Boyd shared his journey from being one of the best Rugby League players in the world to being admitted into a mental health facility. Darius opens up about his mental struggle during a time when seemingly on the surface everything looked perfect. He spoke about the courage it took to put his hand up and admit that he needed help in an environment that stigmatised mental well-being. About Darius Boyd: Broncos, Dragons, Knights, Maroons, Australia ... Darius Boyd is an NRL champion. This raw, honest and inspiring episode takes us into the heart of his footy and private life and reveals his fight to conquer his demons and live a better life. Listing statistics, awards and premierships doesn't reveal the battles that Darius Boyd has faced off the field. A teenager with a troubled background, he started his career with innate footy talent but also the emotional baggage of an unknown father, the devastating loss of loved ones, and a mother who was walking a mental health tightrope herself, which as a kid he didn't understand. As his talent shone on the field and his profile increased, Darius struggled. Hiding years of depression and unhappiness, playing footy was his escape. But no one can run from themselves forever. The horrific spinal injury to good mate and Newcastle Knights teammate Alex McKinnon was the catalyst that finally broke Darius. Realising he needed help for his anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts, he turned his back on football, checked into a mental health facility and began to mend his life and himself. Career Highlights: → 28 State of Origin games for Queensland. → 23 games for Australia. → Clive Churchill winner in the 2010 NRL Premiership. Expertise: → Improving mental health in Athletes. → Professional Rugby League Coach. → Resilience training for youth. For more on Darius Boyd read his book – Battling the Blues. When Kirat Assi met a man named Bobby online, her life changed forever. Their long-distance love story was a slow burn, lasting for ten years. They texted and called every day, sharing dreams of starting a life together. In all that time Kirat and Bobby never met in person. Kirat then learned that Bobby wasn't real – and she was the victim of an elaborate catfishing scam. If that setup has you hooked, you'll understand why so many people are obsessed with the podcast Sweet Bobby. This week Leah welcomes the host, investigative journalist Alexi Mostrous, for a spoiler-free interview you won't want to miss. Leah also talks to the creator of a new CBC podcast all about exploring grief and memory. Alex McKinnon's brother Paul was killed thirty years ago by a speeding police car, at only fourteen years old. As time went on, Alex's memories of Paul became hazy and then went away. In his podcast Sorry About the Kid, he explores his childhood grief and tries to get those memories back. Featuring: Sweet Bobby, Sorry About The Kid, Sharing Space with Dr. Roberta Bondar

It's another pre-recorded episode this week - lucky there's no news, right?? Snackpod are the proud owners of one of maybe only eight or ten copies of Gina Rinehart's alleged jokebook, Jokes and Joys (Dedicated to Aussie Mother). So for this week's episode, we read some of the least vile jokes and memes straight from Australia's richest person. This episode somewhat apropos of Alex McKinnon's article about Australia's billionaires (read it here: https://www.gawker.com/politics/meet-australias-batshit-insane-mining-billionaires).
