Bethany Webster is a global expert on healing the “Mother Wound,” something K+L have been intimately working with for a while now. It's the source of so much trauma in our lives, with generation after generation of mothers passing along the damaging beliefs embedded into them by the patriarchy and their parents. But Bethany helps women heal this core wound by teaching them how to discover and tap into their “Inner Mother.” The Mother Wound feeds into all areas of our life, from our diets to our interactions with other women to our own self-worth. It's foundational to the way we interact with the world. How incredible would it be, then, to change it for the better? Way better.Morning Microdose is a podcast curated by Krista Williams and Lindsey Simcik, the hosts and founders of Almost 30, a global community, brand, and top rated podcast. With curated clips from the Almost 30 podcast, Morning Mircodose will set the tone for your day, so you can feel inspired through thought provoking conversations…all in digestible episodes that are less than 10 minutes.Wake up with Krista and Lindsey, both literally and spiritually, Monday-Friday.If you enjoyed this conversation, listen to the full episode on Spotify here and on Apple here.

In this episode, Stef and Sarah delve into the emotional topic of the mother wound. The discussion begins with light-hearted banter but quickly deepens into a profound conversation about the impact mothers have on their children. They explore insights from books like "Mother Hunger" by Kelly McDaniel and "Discovering the Inner Mother" by Bethany Webster but also bring personal experiences into the room. The hosts discuss the different ways mothers can nurture and unintentionally wound their children (is the Mother Wound even avoidable from an existential perspective?) and how these experiences shape adult relationships and self-concept, including our relationships with food and bodies. They also touch on the societal pressures mothers face and the challenges of achieving a balance between nurturing, protection, and guidance. Our relationship with our mothers has a profound impact on how we form bonds in adulthood. This second episode of a four-part series dives deep into the dynamics of the wounds we have with our maternal figures, exploring how early connections with our mothers shape our emotional landscape, self-expression, and boundaries. We reflect on generational patterns, societal expectations, and how these forces often keep us from becoming our fullest selves. Drawing inspiration from the work of Bethany Webster, we also examine how healing the mother wound can liberate us from unconscious patterns, paving the way for healthier, more authentic relationships. Join us for a conversation on awareness, healing, and transformation. You may remember Bethany Webster from our most recent Camp Almost 30 where she, we have to say, brought the freaking house down. She also joined us in March of 2021, where she introduced the community to the life-changing idea of the “Mother Wound,” and about healing and dealing with the multi-generational trauma that gets passed on to us.Now, she's helping us to identify another unheard part of ourselves, our inner teenager. By now, the idea of the inner child is totally understood, but our inner teenager still hangs out in there. Like most teenagers, yours is probably misunderstood or completely ignored. That part of you has so much to give and Bethany Webster helps us get on the level to understand those lessons. Are you overgiving in your relationships? In this episode, I talk with Melissa Guttman, MT-BC, LCAT about setting boundaries with emotionally immature people and: • Why highly sensitive people often struggle with boundaries and codependency in their relationships • Reframing guilt as a marker of taking better care of yourself instead of thinking that you've done something wrong • Letting go of overfunctioning and over-empathizing to honor the other ways you bring value as a sensitive person • Recognizing anger and intuition as signs it's time to set a boundary • The cost of enabling and rescuing the people in your life • Knowing when to distance yourself from the emotionally immature people in your life Melissa is a licensed IFS therapist in private practice based in New York City, helping highly sensitive adult children of narcissists recover from gaslighting and trust their intuition, to make decisions from a place of personal sovereignty and wisdom. Melissa also runs the Witches Protection Program, a self-defense training for highly sensitive people to learn how to protect themselves from narcissists. The deeper we go with our menstrual cycle awareness practice, the more it can resource us as we heal our deepest wounds. Cycle by cycle, we step into deeper intimacy with our needs, which in turn enables us to take clumsy steps towards clarifying healthy boundaries. Today we're speaking about a core wound which effects all of us, with the woman who first comprehensively defined the term a decade ago, Bethany Webster and the Mother Wound. As Bethany says, the Mother Wound is the place inside us where we compulsively cause ourselves to be small, self-sacrificing and silent as a means of loyalty and love and approval with other people. Today we explore how, if we're persistent and committed on both the path of menstrual cycle awareness (or conscious menopause), and working with the Mother Wound, we can create boundaries which can help us to feel less disconnected and more like we belong to this messy, old life. We explore:How your deep ‘why' can help you to hold clear boundaries when you face criticism.Bethany's three tips for holding strong boundaries with challenging family members. How menstrual cycle can help us to discover what we really want (rather than what we're making ourselves do) so that we can ride off the power of these desires to courageously set necessary boundaries. ---Receive our free video training: Love Your Cycle, Discover the Power of Menstrual Cycle Awareness to Revolutionise Your Life - www.redschool.net/love---The Menstruality Podcast is hosted by Red School.
Why is it such a commonly held belief that the more you self-sacrifice, the better of a mother, wife, and person you are? Where did this notion even come from? Why do women feel badly when we set boundaries or take care of our needs? If you're looking to understand some of the deeper causes of our struggles as women, check out this podcast episode. In this episode I talk to Bethany Webster, author of “Discovering the Inner Mother,” about our inherited cultural beliefs, how the Mother wound affects our lives, how to lean into healing, and looking to the past to change the future. Do you have limiting beliefs around motherhood and what it means to be a mama? These beliefs could be anything, like — “a good mother needs to put herself last”, or “you should enjoy every moment of motherhood” or even “it's crucial to get your pre-baby body back quickly”.So many of us have beliefs like this. Sometimes we inherit them from our own mothers, sometimes they're fed to us from society, and sometimes they get embedded in our brains without us even knowing. To help us explore and dismantle them, I've opened up the vault and pulled out one of the most downloaded episodes of the show EVER, with the incredible Bethany Webster.Bethany says this way of thinking stems from the ‘Mother Wound' — the inherited pain of being a woman in a patriarchal culture. And in today's episode, she's guiding us through the process of healing this wound, ditching our dysfunctional coping mechanisms, and expanding our idea of what it means to be a mama.Known as a ‘midwife of the heart', Bethany Webster is a writer, transformational coach and international speaker. Her work has filled a crucial gap in our understanding of women's lives by blending cutting-edge research on intergenerational trauma, feminist theory, and psychology to comprehensively define the Mother Wound.Bethany's insights in this conversation blew me away. I was nodding along like crazy, as she described so perfectly what it's like to be a woman in this world and how many damaging beliefs we can absorb without even realizing. Whether you are a mama, want to be a mama, have a mama, or just want to understand yourself and the women in your life better, you'll find veins of gold throughout this podcast, and I can't wait for you to listen. So if you want to heal your ancestral wounds, actualize your full potential, and redefine your own relationship with motherhood, this conversation is for you.Head to www.melissaambrosini.com/519 for the show notes.Join my newsletter: www.melissaambrosini.com/newsletterFollow me on Instagram: @melissaambrosiniGet Time Magic: www.timemagic.me Hosted on Acast. Despite moms being important figures in our life, some are better than others, and Bethany explores the mother wound and the complicated relationship daughters have with them. How then do we acknowledge the mother wound? For Bethany, some of the first steps that a person can take are to reflect on the problems in one's relationship with their mom. For many women, it's about being able to be authentic; feeling the need to be smaller or less real to protect them in some way. Another step to take is to explore what irks you about your relationship with your mom and how that plays out in real-time. An important question to also ask yourself is that if you could have it any way you wanted, how would you interact with her? What would that relationship be like and how would it be different? We're welcoming back Bethany Webster, the author of “Discovering The Inner Mother”. She's considered to be the global expert on healing the “Mother Wound” - something we all inherit to varying degrees living in a patriarchal society. Bethany was a guest at our Wise Power Retreat, where she spoke about healing the Mother Wound during menopause. In our conversation today, we look at the Mother Wound through a menstrual cycle awareness lens, exploring how it shows up throughout our inner seasons, and how each phase of the cycle can support specific aspects of healing. We explore:Why it's so hard for us to take care of ourselves, the role the Mother Wound plays in this, and how inner spring (pre-ovulation) teaches us to mother ourselves and build trust with our inner child. What we learned from our mothers about whether it's ok to shine and how inner summer (ovulation) can help us unravel our capacity to be seen and loved for who we really are. The power of boundaries when it comes to healing the Mother Wound, and how our premenstrual power can support us to claim the honest truth about our limits and what we need. ---Join the waiting list for our 2023 Menstruality Leadership Programme - you can apply here: www.menstrualityleadership.com---The Menstruality Podcast is hosted by Red School. Growing up we learn so much from our mothers and growing up the messaging we receive is "obey thy mother." The things we learned from our mothers growing up and the way they coped in the world show up in us, throughout our lives. But What if our mother was wrong? What if they are passing along their own trauma? What if they cross our boundaries and teach us not to listen to ourselves? Bethany Webster is back on the podcast to chat some more about the mother-daughter relationship and how there can be shame and embarrassment around this relationship for women, especially around holidays and Mother's Day. In this episode we dive into: The grief that comes from having a relationship with your mother that doesn't meet your needs The characteristics of a toxic mother-daughter relationship How our mothers unhealed inner child impacts how they show up for us Obligatory relationships The need to set boundaries with family members The pressure we get from our parents because we "owe it them" and SO much more. This is a heavy conversation but one that could transform the way you see your relationship with your own mom, other women in your life, and how you show up as a mom and stepmom. Coming out of this, she encountered her own “Me Too” moment dealing with sexual coercion and harassment in her professional life; saying no resulted in her being the target of gossip that tarnished her reputation. Deeply affected by the gaslighting and the experiences, she adopted a minimalist lifestyle, leaned on her personal network and practiced radical personal forgiveness, acceptance and responsibility. The journey was not without its impact and Candice shares powerfully about dealing with anxiety, depression, shame and learning to let go. When grief rocked her world a little less than 2 years ago, Candice knew it was time to stop her life, hit the pause button and finally do the deep work to heal her heart, self and mindset. Emerging from this place, Candice has begun to embrace her fierce and receptive feminine nature. The journey to be and embrace all the parts of herself has led her to the place to start her wildly successful Create the Ripple Podcast; Trust the Niggle and Tell the Truth - where she features other amazing guests who are not afraid to do the hard work of personal development, listen to their own minds/heart and then speak up and out for those things that matter; to themselves and to make a difference in the world. Candice loves her essentialist lifestyle for the beauty and freedom it offers her. She can never resist the urge to take off her boots to walk barefoot into a clear mountain lake or stream. When she is not connecting or writing, she can be found disappearing into the backcountry trails of Canada with her life-love Mark and losing herself exploring waterfalls and mountain trails. She is a quiet introvert who adores eating clean foods and reading a great book. In Season 2, Episode 4 we discuss the mother wound concept and how it relates to body image. We talk about the intersection of the patriarchy, intergenerational legacy, and attachment theory. A backdrop of scarcity in a culture that tends to devalue women that can lead to distortions in the mother-daughter relationship. We discuss the the mother/food connection that shows up from the womb to adulthood, and how this can relate to some eating disorders that show up. We share personal anecdotes about body comparisons between us and our mothers, negative comments and perceptions of comments about our bodies, and how body judgement plays a role in our family structures today. This week I am talking to Bethany Webster about the mother wound. Bethany says, “When we are children and our mothers harm us, they are to blame. They are adults and are responsible for us. If you can walk the path of healing the mother wound and inner mothering, the rewards are so rich.” Bethany is a writer, international speaker, and transformational coach. You may remember Bethany Webster from our most recent Camp Almost 30 where she, we have to say, brought the freaking house down. She also joined us in March of 2021, where she introduced the community to the life-changing idea of the “Mother Wound,” and about healing and dealing with the multi-generational trauma that gets passed on to us. Now, she's helping us to identify another unheard part of ourselves, our inner teenager. By now, the idea of the inner child is totally understood, but our inner teenager still hangs out in there. Like most teenagers, yours is probably misunderstood or completely ignored. That part of you has so much to give and Bethany Webster helps us get on the level to understand those lessons. Tune in. We also talk about: The undermining and exploitation of teenagers in society The function of shame Teenagers' pressure to grow up fast Healing the inner teen vs. the inner child How the inner teen gets activated Defining and finding sovereignty Ending friendships that are no longer aligned Finding peace with your inner teen Sponsors: BetterHelp | Get 10% off the first month of therapy at http://betterhelp.com/almost30 (betterhelp.com/almost30) Issuu | Visit http://issuu.com/podcast (issuu.com/podcast) to create a free account or use code ALMOST30 to get 50% off a premium account Anima Mundi Herbals | Go to http://animamundiherbals.com (animamundiherbals.com) and use code ALMOST30 for 15% off your purchase HUM Nutrition | Visit http://humnutrition.com (humnutrition.com) and use code ALMOST30 for 20% off your first order of $29 or more Resources: https://www.bethanywebster.com/ (bethanywebster.com) Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/themotherwound/ (@themotherwound) Read: “https://www.bethanywebster.com/book/ (Discovering the Inner Mother”) Join our community: http://almost30.com/membership (almost30.com/membership) https://www.facebook.com/Almost30podcast/groups (facebook.com/Almost30podcast/groups) Podcast disclaimer can be found by visiting: https://almost30.com/disclaimer (almost30.com/disclaimer). This is such a powerful episode. My guest today is Bethany Webster. She is the global expert on healing the mother wound. You might be thinking what is the mother wound? Do I have one? How do I know if I have one? Bethany would say most of us are carrying some wounding from our own mothers. The mother wound is when we split off from our authentic selves because of conscious and subconscious messages from our own mothers about who we need to be, about who they need us to be or about who society needs us to be. Our beliefs about ourselves are generally formed between the ages of 0-7. That is so powerful. And that is exactly the same time we need our caregiver's love to survive. So what do we do? We adapt. We split off from who we really are to become who we think we need to be in order to get that love. And that is the mother wound. It is important to say that this is not about mother bashing or shaming our mothers. We are all mothers and know how challenging this role is. Bethany's call to us is to look at this so it may be less likely that we will pass it on to our own daughters. This is an incredibly powerful episode and I think Bethany's work is game-changing. We chat about: What is the mother wound Why we need to talk about it Shame-based identity What is the mother gap and how do we fill it Healing intergenerational patterns The difference between blaming and taking responsibility FREEBIES! Heal the Mother, Heal the World. The Mother Wound refers to the generational trauma passed down from mother to daughter due to the expectations placed on women in a patriarchal society. The purpose of this isn't to shame mothers of grown children or induce anxiety upon mothers who are actively parenting little ones. It's an important conversation that needs to happen for self awareness, the first step to healing. "What we don't own we project, what we don't heal we pass on." - Bethany Webster (author of “Discovering the Inner Mother: A Guide to Healing the Mother Wound and Claiming your Power") https://www.instagram.com/themotherwound/ Patriarchy can be triggering word for some people so let's define it. (n) A society where the father or eldest male is head of the family, men hold the power and women are excluded from the power. Women's rights and equality have a come a long way, but the Patriarchy is still so strong and embedded that women self police themselves to fill the unrealistic expectations society has set for us. Women are conditioned to believe that their place is to be small, quiet, submissive, subservient and for mothers specifically - self sacrificing. That conditioning is like a wound, a traumatic mindset that is passed from generation to generation. So even as the world evolves, the wound is there. "Women will continue to feel stuck as long as we believe our safety is contingent on compliance with patriarchal standards and expectations." - Bethany Webster (author of “Discovering the Inner Mother: A Guide to Healing the Mother Wound and Claiming your Power") Women can work to heal the mother wound by living life on their own terms and we can do this by way of important forms of self care like speaking and living your truth, resting, asking for help, setting boundaries, and releasing the attachment to fulfilling society's expectations. Ask mother wound expert Bethany Webster says: "Feel the guilt and do it anyway." I want to thank my friend and fellow Life Coach Krista Kathleen for joining me on this episode and bringing this important concept into the spotlight! Her book "Beyond The White Picket Fence", which is available NOW on Amazon, is a perfect example a women healing this mother wound. Has society been teaching you that there is something wrong with you due to the dynamics of your relationship with your mother? Have there been things that have happened in your mother-daughter relationship that's been impacting how you live? Could it be that your unhealed mother wound is the REAL reason for your financial debt? On this week's episode, Ramesha Nicole sits down with author of “Discovering the Inner Mother: A Guide to Healing the Mother Wound and Claiming Your Personal Power” Bethany Webster about what the mother wound is and why it is necessary to heal for freedom. Then identify what your beliefs are in that area and how you've subconsciously adopted as your own. “Your mother's beliefs are not reality.”-Bethany Webster Ask yourself when you were a little girl what you longed from from your mother. What is the little girl inside of you still longing for and how can you give that for her? Bond with your inner child. Truth for Freedom Questions: 1. What does it mean to take to get real in order to experience freedom? The hunger to be real is the most trustworthy thing because we live in a world that feeds the empty parts. What is true and live and embody that. Look at what isn't working and that will lead you to real. 2. My name is Bethany and the truth about debt is that it doesn't have to hold you back. It's not the end of the world for you. Debt is a teacher. The reason we can't find love is not because there are no good people out there. It's not because "everyone on dating apps just wants to hook up." Truthfully, it's rarely what we think it is. It's always something so much deeper. When I was on my dating journey my biggest challenge was not feeling good enough. When I explored the origin of that belief, I was brought to mother. I realized that I saw myself through the eyes of my mother. And her eyes, weren't always the kindest when looking at me. Now that I'm a mother, I realize what a hard job it is. And how so many of us are mothering from a broken heart. But still, we affect the ones we mother. Even the best of us do! God knows my kids will be on some therapy couch one day talking about how I messed them up in one way or another. It can be scary, but we need to go there. Until we examine the mother relationship, we can't full see ourselves. And if we can't fully see ourselves, we can't fully accept love. For this reason, I sought out Mother Wound expert Bethany Webster to be a guest on The Final Swipe podcast. This is such an important topic, and Bethany did such a great job explaining what the mother wound is and how it can affect our dating life. Give it a listen. And if you know a friend who has mom issues, please send it along. We talk about: What the mother wound is. My mother wounds! How to overcome our mom issues in order to love ourselves more. How to manage troubled mom issues. Resources: Bethany's website: https://womboflight.com/ (https://womboflight.com/)
