Bethany Webster is a global expert on healing the “Mother Wound,” something K+L have been intimately working with for a while now. It's the source of so much trauma in our lives, with generation after generation of mothers passing along the damaging beliefs embedded into them by the patriarchy and their parents. But Bethany helps women heal this core wound by teaching them how to discover and tap into their “Inner Mother.” The Mother Wound feeds into all areas of our life, from our diets to our interactions with other women to our own self-worth. It's foundational to the way we interact with the world. How incredible would it be, then, to change it for the better? Way better.Morning Microdose is a podcast curated by Krista Williams and Lindsey Simcik, the hosts and founders of Almost 30, a global community, brand, and top rated podcast. With curated clips from the Almost 30 podcast, Morning Mircodose will set the tone for your day, so you can feel inspired through thought provoking conversations…all in digestible episodes that are less than 10 minutes.Wake up with Krista and Lindsey, both literally and spiritually, Monday-Friday.If you enjoyed this conversation, listen to the full episode on Spotify here and on Apple here.
Ep. 135 Do you feel like there's often a rebellious, childlike part of you calling the shots despite your best efforts to take action aligned with your goals? Does she procrastinate to the point of self-sabotage, or go for the box of cookies when you know a solid meal is what you need? Does this rebellion come out when you're working to an extreme, being especially hard on yourself or tying your worth solely to your productivity? This is where “reparenting” ourselves comes in: the part of adulthood where we realize it's our job to be our own parent, but we have no idea where to start when a parent was also unkind to themselves or not in touch with their own worth and needs. Over the last four years, I've slowly learned how to answer the question, "what do I need right now?" — sometimes it's good old discipline, other times it's connection or rest. I found that I got to recreate my own “inner mother” who was capable of being honest and curious enough to make the call from a place of trust and self knowing, but it wasn't easy to get there. I'm walking you through every step I had to go through to move from self-criticism to self-parenting. HERE'S THE JUICE: Could letting go of perfectionism and competition help us rediscover joy and authentic self-expression? How to shift away from productivity-based self-worth to intrinsic self-worth & why treating yourself with kindness can be used as a tool to build self-trust over time Practical steps for developing your inner mother voice through accessible day-to-day actions such as unstructured play to explore creativity How to self-regulate and break the cycles of self-avoidance we might have formed in our childhood Ways to recognize when your inner child is running the show and possibly hindering your day to day without us even realizing it TIMESTAMPS: Watch the full episode on What's The Juice YouTube Channel To support our ad-free show, shop Olivia's line of herbalist-formulated supplements for digestion, anxiety, thyroid support, and more by visiting www.organicolivia.com. In this episode, Stef and Sarah delve into the emotional topic of the mother wound. The discussion begins with light-hearted banter but quickly deepens into a profound conversation about the impact mothers have on their children. They explore insights from books like "Mother Hunger" by Kelly McDaniel and "Discovering the Inner Mother" by Bethany Webster but also bring personal experiences into the room. The hosts discuss the different ways mothers can nurture and unintentionally wound their children (is the Mother Wound even avoidable from an existential perspective?) and how these experiences shape adult relationships and self-concept, including our relationships with food and bodies. They also touch on the societal pressures mothers face and the challenges of achieving a balance between nurturing, protection, and guidance. Do you notice the same patterns keep coming up with your partner or friendships? Do you find yourself afraid of conflict – avoiding hard, but necessary conversations? Are you struggling with creating the space to feel your emotions instead of numbing them? Krista Williams is a coach, podcast host, and close friend who shares how the “mother wound” shows up in our social dynamics and the way we feel safe in the world, why codependency extends far beyond our partner, and the impact of Internal Family Systems (IFS) also known as ‘parts work' on getting in touch with your inner mother. HERE'S THE JUICE: What the “mother wound” is and how it is crucial for developing female friendships & feeling safe in the world Why codependency stems from a desire for safety, stability, and connection in intimate relationships How using internal family systems (IFS) can help us hear our true “inner mother” who has acceptance for all parts of us How to recognize your inner voices like the critic, perfectionist, child, and rebel The challenges of adjusting to different versions of yourself, especially as we change and grow in the context of long term relationships Exactly how to create space to feel your emotions and the questions to ask yourself to start processing them The power of curiosity & asking questions in supporting your friends to come to their OWN conclusions, instead of going into fixer mode How a darkness retreat taught Krista how to self regulate and process her emotions for the first time Watch the full episode on What's The Juice YouTube Channel To support our ad-free show, shop Olivia's line of herbalist-formulated supplements for digestion, anxiety, thyroid support, and more by visiting www.organicolivia.com. Why is it such a commonly held belief that the more you self-sacrifice, the better of a mother, wife, and person you are? Where did this notion even come from? Why do women feel badly when we set boundaries or take care of our needs? If you're looking to understand some of the deeper causes of our struggles as women, check out this podcast episode. It's a touchy topic that's been in the zeitgeist for the last couple of years – either spurred by our general societal upheaval and the change it's bringing about within people, something less, or something even more – friend break ups are sometimes a part of life. And they can be even more painful than breaking things off in a romantic relationship. There's often more time invested and thus, more depth. More experience and trust. K+L drop in for today's solo episode to discuss this very thing. When do you know it's time to break up with a friend? What are the signs, both within yourself and between the two of you, that might be clues that something is off? And, most importantly, how do you talk about it with them? Or, do you at all? We can all agree at this point in our evolution that toxicity and rudeness are not the answers. So, how do we approach this change with grace? With compassion and understanding? Tune in to get real life advice from these two open hearts. We also talk about: How do you know when it's time to break up with a friend? Listening to your body's clues Having a conversation vs. letting it dissolve What might cause a friendship breakup? Welcome to Audio # 2 Build your inner mother Meditation This meditation is part of the Healing the Mother Daughter Relationship workshop. To get the best out of this process, I encourage you to do this meditation in the sequence that is suggested in the workbook. You can repeat this meditation as often as you need after completing this program. Just go with the vision of a child that shows up in the following visualisation. Do not be surprised if a different child shows up each time you do this process. Go with the innerchild that was most impacted by your relationship with your mother. Let us begin Go into the garden, approach your inner child on the bench. Sit down next to your inner child. Invite your mother in front of you. What is she wearing, expression on her face, her emotions. Accept her limitations, send her love from your heart to hers. Put her to one side Now we are going to build your new inner mother. She will be your supprt and guide from this moment. Think about all the qualities you want in your inner mother Positive Motherly Qualities 1. Patience 2. Respectful 3. Strong 4. Humble 5. Empathic 6. Authorative 7. Supportive 8. Loving 9. Protection Infuse her with all of these qualities Flesh her out, now see her turn to your mother, and hear your mother say, Thank you for completing this job, thank you for doing what I could not do, thank you, thank you, thank you, Walk up to your mothers, and have a group hug… From this moment, you have the tools, resources and capacity to mother yourself, You can still love your mother and acknowledge her limitation. You now have an internal mother that can meet all of your motehring needs Check in with your inner child regularly. Listen to them share their feelings, look at their face, love them, see them, hear them, Breathe in…now release it. Breathe in, now release Put a golden light around this vision and release it. Breath in, breath in, breath in. Come back to your body, open your eyes if they are closed. Take a few moments then go back to the workbook and continue the process.

Bethany discusses the by-product of the “Inner Mothering” as a way to create a bond of safety with the child inside of you. She addresses filling the “mother gap” of what you may not have received from your mother, and, over time, feel safe enough to be sovereign. When comforting our inner child, we can overcome patriarchal mandates that have been instilled in society. Nikki and Bethany talk about guilt and how women are taught to internalize this. We must validate our feelings and feel more fierce so that we can actively speak our truth. Amie McNee is a writer, creativity coach and podcaster. She is a beautiful soul who I have been following on instagram for some time and loving the gentle and profound encouragement she shares in large hand written notes. Amie casts her inner critic as her younger self, mostly a petulant teenager but sometimes a scared, fearful and tantruming child. And she casts the antithesis of this as her inner mother. Her older wiser self, that soothes and mothers her younger persona most often on the pages of her journals where she rewrites any negative language. She literally erases and replaces what is inside her mind, negative to positive, with a pen and paper! It's so, so clever. If you need a creative pep up I highly recommend the It's Time To Write paid podcast for creatives. In the last episode (Part 1), we explained what the Superwoman Complex is and in this episode we are going to explain what the CURE is for those who are stuck in the Superwoman Complex. So, the superwoman complex is the belief that we need to do it ALL as mothers. We need to show up perfectly and fully at all times in every role, including but not limited to our role as mother, wife, house manager, career woman, daughter/sister, community member, and more. It is that unnatural, perfectionist voice of the Inner Critic that pushes and bullies us to success. So, today, in Part 2, I discuss 4 main points that form the cure for the Superwoman Complex and that rest on the cornerstone point, the fundamental point, that underlies the entire cure. That is, speaking to ourselves in the voice of the loving Inner Mother on our way to success. Without this, these other 4 points are moot. Now, those 4 points that form the cure: Treat time as your friend. It is about quality not quantity. It's not enough to know your values, you must LIVE them every single day. Even if it's 10 minutes at a time. It's not about WHAT you're doing, it is about HOW you're doing it: the energy that you're in and the way you show up in the world. Be aware and be willing to meet your own NEEDS.
I used to be all about productivity, but that has changed since I've realized that it's a patriarchal concept designed to keep (daughters) in cycles of unworthiness and feeling like we're never good enough. Your worthiness is not based on how much you produce-- it's just what you are. Get the book I'm using as my guide to heal this wound (book club anyone?!) Have you ever noticed how most advice about growing a business is externally oriented? We go out to find new markets; we go out to get feedback. While I still stand with those strategies, I also think that looking outwards is only one part of the equation. There is massive value to be found when you do the internal work to grow your business. My guest today has built her business by doing the opposite of what most business advice says and instead, took a deeply personal and internal approach. I find her journey so incredibly inspiring and fascinating, I just knew I needed to have her on the podcast to discuss it. Keep reading Bethany Webster is a feminist author and transformational coach who also happens to be a graduate of The Incubator. She's known around the world for her work on women's leadership and development, and her first book Discovering the Inner Mother, shows women entrepreneurs how their “mother wound” impacts their business and personal lives. For the first episode in my Feminist Business Credo Series, hear my fabulously insightful conversation with Bethany Webster about how the mother wound within each of us affects our business journeys. Bethany shares her story of building a meaningful, rich business that feeds her creativity while also providing a financial fortress despite her challenging upbringing. We dive into some pretty deep topics like emotional safety and mother-daughter work, and I hope that this conversation will inspire you to consider the internal work you need to do to grow your business. Today on the Power + Presence + Position Podcast: How Bethany learned to lean into the internal places that feel scary. Bethany's evolution as an entrepreneur, writer, and teacher. FIRST CHAPTER FRIDAYS explores "daughters growing up in a patriarchal culture with a sense of having to choose between being empowered and being loved," by Bethany Webster, in honor of Women's History Month.
In this episode we riff on what the inner child is and the benefits of cultivating our own inner mother. We also discuss how this work can be deeply transformation for our relationship and our own wellbeing.
In this nurturing and empowering episode, I dive in with Shaelyn Cataldo, Sacred Feminine Leader & Creative Midwife who guides women to become the mother they always wanted and needed for themselves through the rite of passage journey into the Mature feminine from maiden to archetypal Mother. We cover: ∞ The journey of the Triple Goddess and why being intentional about the Maiden to Mother path is essential for feeling empowered. ∞ The difference between the wounded Maiden & healthy Maiden energy. ∞ How the initiation from immature feminine to Divine Mother energy breaks ancestral patterns of perfectionism, self-righteous independence, people-pleasing, over-achieving, and performing for love. ∞ How developing a relationship with our inner Mother awakens our desire, creativity, sense of worthiness and intuition. ∞ Why prescriptive self-care doesn't work ∞ Why it's necessary to embrace grief, high sensations, and dark nights of the Soul in order to mature and evolve. ∞ The difference between working with the Higher Self and the Inner Mother and my journey to Mother with Shaelyn's guidance And Much More! Through this powerful initiation women are guided home to their Inner Mother as a bridge to their Inner Power so they can reclaim their sovereignty + share their gifts freely with the world. Shaelyn holds such powerful loving space for women's expansion while modeling the audacity of a woman who has learned to trust herself completely. Catherine is here today with Bethany Webster. Bethany is a writer, transformational coach, and international speaker. Her work is focused on helping women heal the Mother Wound so that they can step into their full power and potential. Bethany started a blog in 2013 that was focused on defining the "Mother Wound" and explaining its key role in women's empowerment. Although work by writers such as Adrienne Rich and Christiane Northrup has touched on the Mother Wound, no one had yet fleshed out exactly what the Mother Wound is and why it remains a universal experience of women the world over. Bethany's work has filled a crucial gap in our understanding of women's psychology and empowerment by comprehensively defining the Mother Wound, how it manifests in women's lives and providing a roadmap to a solution with her 7 steps to healing the Mother Wound. Blending cutting-edge research on intergenerational trauma, feminist theory, and psychology with her own personal story, Bethany's body of work is the result of decades of her own research and her personal journey of healing.
