ITP - 122 Your hosts welcome Greg Perry, co-founder and CEO of Global Services and Education Limited, to talk about his wild, winding journey in international education. Greg doesn't just talk about opening schools—he's lived it, from the ground up, across countries and cultures, figuring it out as he goes. We dive into the nitty-gritty: the challenges no one warns you about, the unexpected roadblocks, the delicate dance of opening a school in someone else's backyard.Greg gets real about what it takes. It's not just bricks and mortar—it's accreditation, business plans, politics, relationships. He stresses how every school needs a mission that actually means something, not just words slapped on a wall. And then there's the business side—oh, the business side. If you've ever thought education and business don't mix, Greg will have you thinking again. We also look at what's happening right now in international education: hiring teachers and leaders, navigating new expectations, and figuring out what the future holds. Greg's seen firsthand how trust is everything, especially when working with wealthy clients in different cultural contexts. He shares stories that stick with you—moments where cultural nuance made or broke a deal, moments when a relationship meant more than a contract. We talk about what's next: hybrid learning, the growing push to develop local teachers, and the big question of how education can evolve without losing its heart. By the end, Greg leaves us with a hopeful note—a reminder that, even with all the complexity, education still has the power to change lives, communities, and maybe even the world.Greg's Website: Global Services in Education https://www.gsineducation.com/_______The International Teacher Podcast is a bi-weekly discussion with experts in international education. In this episode, Chris is in conversation with Jeb Horton, SVP Global Services at Hitachi Vantara, discussing the capabilities of Hitachi Vantara's Global Services offerings, which deliver infrastructure management and infrastructure as a service to its customers. In addition to EverFlex, Hitachi Vantara has a long history of managed services capabilities that span more than just outsourced storage. As Jeb explains, the company also manages storage infrastructure from other vendors, in addition to non-storage systems. The interesting aspect of this discussion is the complex nature of the interaction between customers and Hitachi. Solutions offerings aren't merely "transactional", but have a human aspect and are tailored to meeting the specific goals of the customer. This conversation explores some of the nuances of working with customers to transfer the burden of infrastructure management to Hitachi, enabling businesses to focus on more strategic opportunities. Water stewardship is about managing water resources sustainably and equitably for all stakeholders. This involves setting standards, measuring impact, and encouraging companies to adopt best practices for water use, aiming to create a positive impact on local communities and the environment.Water stewardship is the management of water resources in a sustainable and equitable manner, considering the needs of all stakeholders involved. Lauren Enright from SCS Global Services explains that this concept has evolved over the past decade, expanding from traditional water management to include broader social and environmental impacts. To promote effective water stewardship, standards like SCS 116 have been developed, aiming to provide a structured approach for companies to measure, report, and improve their water use practices. The conversation highlights the importance of setting quantifiable standards for water stewardship, similar to ESG standards, to ensure that companies can objectively measure their impact and make informed decisions. The challenge lies in determining whether these standards should be voluntary or mandatory, and how they can be effectively implemented and scrutinized.Lauren emphasizes the role of accurate reporting and measurement in water stewardship, noting that companies must integrate water biodiversity into their corporate cultures to achieve meaningful progress. The development of tools and technologies, such as those by Microsoft and Fido AI for leak detection, plays a crucial role in improving water efficiency and reducing non-revenue water losses. The discussion also touches on the growing investment in water-related initiatives, driven by regulatory requirements and the recognition of financial opportunities. Projections suggest a significant increase in investment in water stewardship, highlighting the need for companies to adopt best practices and make tangible impacts on local communities and ecosystems. In addition to corporate efforts, educational outreach and public engagement are essential for fostering a broader understanding of water stewardship. Initiatives like Axiom Climate aim to educate and involve the public in addressing water and climate issues, emphasizing the importance of community involvement.Overall, the conversation underscores the importance of developing and adopting water stewardship standards, leveraging technology and reporting tools, and engaging both corporate and public sectors to achieve sustainable water management practices.Key PointsWater stewardship involves managing water sustainably and equitably.Standards like SCS 116 help quantify and improve water use practices. The challenge is balancing voluntary versus mandatory standards.Accurate reporting and measurement are crucial for progress.Companies must integrate water biodiversity into their cultures.Innovative technologies aid in improving water efficiency.Investment in water stewardship is projected to increase significantly.Effective water stewardship requires both global and local actions.Corporate leaders like Microsoft are setting examples in water management.Educational outreach is vital for public understanding and involvement.Full Episode: https://dww.show/how-to-end-bullshit-and-measure-your-water-stewardship-commitments-right/Hosted by Ausha. People centricity or Result orientation? That's a dilemma that leaders often grapple with. And in this episode of Tales from Heads, Sameer Chadha - CEO at KPMG Global Services shares his belief that this is no dilemma; people-centricity in fact enables business results. He talks about the role of luck, lessons learnt, how he sees his role as the organisation's Chief Culture Officer, having a tech buddy-cum-guru who helps him keeps learning, And the realisation that while things will be hard - nothing is as difficult as it seems. I enjoyed the conversation - and I think you will too. Listen in. Learn. Get inspired. Richard is back from his trip to Punta Cana. He survived, but just barely. He'll fill us in on (most of) the gory details. There are plenty of reports that United's award pricing has noticeably increased. We don't quibble with that assertion, we just don't think it was an overnight thing. "Saver" inventory has been very tough to find on United for quite some time. Meanwhile, Ed is wading deeper into the world of Global Services benefits and the water is awful murky. What are the unpublished benefits of Global Services? Lastly, has Ed lost his mind in regards to Disney World's Halycon Starcruiser? Richard thinks so. “Instead of having broad job categories that everybody has to fit into, you tailor a person's job around their specific skills and capabilities”, says Jon. “It could be where people work, the work that people do and how much people work. We want to enable as much flexibility as possible.”Jon shares his career journey from the U.S. Air Force to his first HR job with Siemens before transitioning to financial services, holding positions with HSBC and Wells Fargo before joining Principal Financial Group in 2018. He highlights Principal's global footprint and balancing his responsibilities as CHRO for a global business with a headcount of 20,000 alongside his EVP role at Principal Global Services. Discussing Principal's north star goal of creating a personalized employee experience, Jon gives specific examples of how they are moving towards a more diverse and inclusive environment.“If you peel back what it would mean to have a completely personalized employee experience, in order to make that successful, you would have to have a very inclusive mindset. If you have the systems to figure out how to tailor a job experience to an individual's preferences and capabilities, might that be the ultimate level of equality?”Jon shares his recommendations to senior executives interviewing for a role at Principal. “Nothing says more to us than a person in an interview process who's clearly done their homework. They've watched our investor relations. They understand as much as they can about who we are, then can identify exactly the value that they can bring to the organization. It's basically creating relativity in in a conversation.”He gives advice to fellow HR leaders and emphasizes the one lesson that his job has taught him along the way. “You hear something, it may or may not be true. Every single story has a few sides. You can only get to some form of the truth when you get all three sides.”Connect with Jon Couture on LinkedIn or find out more about Principal Financial Group The Insurance Coffee House Podcast is hosted by Nick Hoadley, CEO, Insurance Search, the Executive Search Consultancy for growing Insurance and Insurtech businesses around the globe. To discuss identifying & attracting the very best talent to your team or being a podcast guest, reach out to Nick via nick.hoadley@insurance-search.com Copyright Insurance Search 2023 – All Rights Reserved.

The Institute for International Education released its most recent Open Doors report in November and the news was positive: the total number of international students in the U.S. grew by four percent in 2021-2022 over the prior year, bolstered by an 80% increase in newly enrolled international students. In this podcast, I interview John Dolan, Strategic Advisor and Board Member at Ascend Cloud Solutions. Prior to taking on this position, John was Global Vice President for Software-Defined Data Center Support at VMware. John spent more than 14 years at VMware in the Technical Support organization, where he led global organizations across EMEA and APJ. He did this from Cork, Ireland where he also held the role of Campus Site Lead. Prior to VMware, John spent a number of years working for EMC in Technical Support, helping them to build a support team in Ireland. I got to know John while at VMware when I was in engineering within the Integrated Systems Business Unit. I was working on designs for VMware customer deployments and John was providing support for these same customers. I then had a chance to spend a lot of time with John and his team when I joined the leadership team in Global Services. I really enjoyed working with John. He was incredibly focused on helping customers to be successful. I was helping redefine how we supported customers by moving us to a proactive model, delivering new capabilities such as chat, and delivering in product support. To do this, John and I had to work through the many challenges in scaling this to the huge number of customers that VMware has. I am super excited that John has taken on a new role with Ascend Cloud Solutions. His experience, expertise, and work ethic will help Ascend to be successful. I hope you enjoy my interviews with John!

In this podcast, I talk to Alex Bewley, Director of Engineering at VMware, where he has been for the last 5 years, about his career path. Prior to VMware, Alex started and ran two small companies. The first was focused on Professional Services for Sun Microsystems customers. And the second was a software company, delivering performance, availability, capacity management, and costing tools. Before this, Alex was a systems engineer at Sun Microsystems. I got to know Alex while I was at VMware. He joined my team when I moved into Global Services. Alex was part of a team doing research into tools that could dramatically improve customer support. I joined the organization to reinvent support. What a perfect fit! I worked with Alex and the other researchers to build a team to take their prototype and turn it into the core of VMware Skyline, a proactive support product. I wanted to interview Alex due to the breadth of his experience, and because he has worked and managed his team while being remote from headquarters. I hope you enjoy the interview.

She is the author of Win When They Say You Won't: Break Through Barriers and Keep Leveling Up Your Success*. In this conversation, Daphne invites us to look at ourselves through the lens of a product, just as others will view us. We discuss the three critical elements of how stakeholders view you. Plus, Daphne and I explore the steps you can take to improve how you're perceived through the different lenses that stakeholders see us through. Key Points Stakeholders are crucial for your success and it's helpful for you to view yourself in their eyes (and yours) as a product. Three elements are key: performance is doing your job well, imagine is how people describe you, and exposure is who knows you. When you get radio silence in the context of happenings inside of your organization, that's an indicator you are underexposed. Caution: you can also be overexposed. Map your stakeholders in the context of their influence in your work and their interest in how it support their own objectives. Mentors will make suggestions of things you should try. Find the part that will work for you and move on the advice. Resources Mentioned Win When They Say You Won't: Break Through Barriers and Keep Leveling Up Your Success* by Daphne E.
