It's claimed the lifting of Bus Eireann's driver age cap will be essential to fulfil Clare's school bus services long into the future. The Coach Tourism and Transport Council of Ireland is calling for the establishment of a working group to tackle pressing issues facing the sector, including that commercial operators are responsible for providing over 95% of school services. Last year, a number of school bus routes were temporarily suspended across Clare as Bus Eireann's policy didn't allow contracted drivers aged over 70. Owner of Burren Coaches, Brian Farrell insists the rule is having adverse impacts on the wider coach industry.

In this deeply insightful podcast, Niall shares findings and thoughts from his research and study of the conflict in Northern Ireland, published in his recent book Deniable Contact: Back-Channel Negotiation in Northern Ireland. Niall has spoken to key actors in the peace process, and in particular has sought to understand the conflict by seeking data from the back-channel negotiators, those courageous people who put their lives at risk and whose mediation work was done in secret and without acknowledgement. Niall found a rich store of historical evidence, including the private papers of key Irish Republican leaders, and the papers of Brendan Duddy, the intermediary who acted as the primary contact between the IRA and the British government on several occasions. Simon shares his experience of meeting Brendan Duddy after inviting him to a Faith in Leadership conference when working at the Tavistock Clinic. Brendan attended Tavistock group relations conferences and was able to utilise this learning in his mediation work, identifying the essential issues with great clarity. At great personal risk, Brendan worked to bridge the unbridgeable divide and bring two sides together in secret negotiations. Niall shares his thoughts on what learning can emerge from the Northern Irish peace process and warns about what cannot be generalised. This is a truly fascinating discussion. Get Niall's book here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Deniable-Contact-Back-Channel-Negotiation-Northern/dp/0192894765 Short Bio Niall Ó Dochartaigh is a Professor of Political Science and Sociology and Director of the MA in Public Policy at the University of Galway. Joining Matt and Larry in the studio is that very listener- friend of the show, Brian Farrell- to give us some backstory, and help us get into the weeds on several unknown clips from Sean Mortimer, Ray Barbee, Jeff Toland, Mike Daher, and more, along with some forgotten skits, fake commercials and other oddities! Don't worry, though- for you too will be able to take it all in, as the Bones Brigade Audio Show YouTube channel is now live, and in addition to previous episodes of the show that we will be adding soon, this video is now uploaded for you to check out, with more exclusive content coming soon. URGENCIES (2021) is a biennial exhibition by CCA Derry~Londonderry. The exhibition is selected from an open call, seeking to take the temperature of what emerging artists working today with a connection to our region consider to be urgent. Lucie McLaughlin, Clickety-Clack - Part 1, 2021 3 minutes 55 seconds Clickety-Clack by Lucie McLaughlin is a triptych of experimental sound work, a mix of field recording and constructed narrative sequences that include the sounds of a printer dancing, music leaked through walls, the quiet rabble of voices outside a pub and the purr of a washing machine. Lucie McLaughlin, Clickety-Clack - Part 1, 2021 7 minutes 31 seconds Clickety-Clack by Lucie McLaughlin is a triptych of experimental sound work, a mix of field recording and constructed narrative sequences that include the sounds of a printer dancing, music leaked through walls, the quiet rabble of voices outside a pub and the purr of a washing machine. The artist aims to build connections between the disparate places where words inhabit artwork and art inhabits words. Lucie navigates between moving/still image, performance, writing and sound and uses 'autobiographical' or abstracted anecdotal moments in order to question the essence of performative text and to write from 'hard places' such as mental ill health. Lucie McLaughlin was born in Belfast and is currently based in Glasgow. URGENCIES (2021) features artists and Martin Boyle, Bryony Dunne, Brian Farrell, Edy Fung, Kathryn Graham, Michael Hanna, Patrick Hickey, Siobhán Kelly, Lucie McLaughlin, Christopher Steenson, Frank Wasser and was selected by artist Locky Morris and CCA Director Catherine Hemelryk. We've all had to get used to social distancing... but perhaps for the private coach and bus industry, this poses the most significant problem. Around Ireland, they undertake 27 million passenger journeys every year; employ 11,500 people; and took two million overseas guests on coach tours last year. Many within the transport industry, however, feel left behind in recovery efforts – particularly as they did not have a representative on the government's recently established tourism taskforce. Brian Farrell from Burren Coaches joined Gavin on Tuesday's Morning Focus to discuss this.

In 1973, a massive manhunt in New York's Adirondack Mountains ended when police captured a man named Robert Garrow. And that’s when this story really gets started. This episode we consider a string of barbaric crimes by a hated man, and the attorney who, when called to defend him, also wound up defending a core principle of our legal system. When Frank Armani learned his client’s most gruesome secrets, he made a morally startling decision that stunned the world and goes to the heart of what it means to be a defense attorney - how far should lawyers go to provide the best defense to the worst people? NOTE: This episode contains graphic descriptions of sexual assault and violence. Produced by Matt Kielty and Brenna Farrell. Reported by Brenna Farrell.
