Alysia shares: · The unexpected inequalities she faced and how she fought for change · How stepping outside her comfort zone opened doors she never imagined · The mindset shifts that helped her turn obstacles into opportunities Her journey proves that breaking barriers isn't just about winning medals—it's about changing the game for those who come next. Whether you're an athlete, an advocate, or someone who's ever been told "you can't," this conversation is for you. More of Alysia
This EP is a great conversation with two good friends of mine and national treasures of Canadian Sport. Dom Gauthier competed as a Mogul Skier in the late 90s and was an Olympian in Nagano Japan in 1998. He went on to become the coach of the Japanese National Team and then became the private coach of Jenn Heil and Alexandre Bilodeau where he was integral in their mutual success in Torino and Vancouver. He became a founding member of the B2Ten foundation, supporting many Canadian Olympians and the success of Canadian Olympic sports for almost 20 years. Jenn Heil is one of the winningest Mogul Skiers, both male and female, of all time. She has won multiple World Championships and many World Cup gold medal podiums throughout her career. She won Olympic Gold in 2006 at Torino, and Silver at the Vancouver Games. She's gone on to finish a bachelor's degree at McGill University and an MBA at Stanford University and is now building a business focused on women's health care.Together they are a power couple in Canadian sport, they have two growing boys, and they are dedicated to the improvement of sport and health in Canada. More recently Jenn has been named the Chef de Mission for the 2026 Olympic Games in Cortina, Italy. I was honored to sit down with them both and catch up on life since retiring from competitive sports. Mary-Sophie Harvey is a Canadian Olympian and one of the world's most versatile swimmers. A two-time Olympian, Mary-Sophie has accomplished a feat that few swimmers do - swimming her best time in the Olympic final. However, for Mary-Sophie it was somewhat bittersweet because she left the Paris Olympics having finished in 4th place in 4 different events. On the positive side, being 4th in the world is amazing, but Mary-Sophie will be hungry for a taste of her first Olympic medal as she looks ahead to Los Angeles 2028. Mary-Sophie has just completed a strong World Cup season with some key wins while showcasing the rare versatility that puts her among the world's best swimmers in every stroke. Up next are the Short Course World Championships where Mary-Sophie is a threat in so many events, she asked for our opinion on which events she should swim. You asked for it. We delivered. Because after Emmanuel Paris' first appearance on the podcast, our 'socials' were flooded with DMs from listeners who couldn't get enough of his wisdom and insight. Paris, also known as "Coach Pow," today made his second appearance.Coach Pow isn't your run-of-the-mill fitness expert. He doesn't just "talk the talk." He also "walks the walk." And sprints it too!As a 2008 Canadian Olympian sprinter and a 2006 Commonwealth Games Bronze Medalist, he knows what it takes to excel in the world of athletics. He's also a former pro drug-free bodybuilder, proving you can build a strong & healthy body without shortcuts or long-term repercussions.Nowadays, he "pays it forward," as a high-performance coach in the fitness industry. Pow shares a wealth of knowledge and experience to help individuals reach their fitness goals. In this episode, Coach Pow reflects on his evolving fitness perspective. He's shifted his focus from "getting big" to more refined qualities like agility and joint pain-reduction. He says the new retirement plan revolves around strength, but isn't limited to just building muscle; rather it encompasses flexibility, mobility, and participation in sports, like sprinting, soccer, and martial arts.We also talk about how Coach Pow's path to becoming a running back was diverted by his environment. He mentions that his high school didn't have a football team. Also, his mom disliked contact-sports, which led to him missing an opportunity to participate in organized football. In his local community, Pow recalls showcasing his innate talent for football, drawing attention from those around him, especially his friend's dad, who wanted to take him "under his wing." But his mom had other plans, steering him toward a school focused on academics and non-contact sports. His high school had Debate & Chess. Despite projecting as an NFL running back IMO, Coach Pow's journey took a different, more fulfilling turn. This conversation was packed with valuable fitness insights and life advice. I hope you enjoy as much as I did!

My guest is Emanuel Parris aka Coach Pow. He's a fitness expert with an impressive athletic background. Firstly, he was a 2008 Canadian Olympian sprinter. Not to mention a 2006 Commonwealth Games Bronze Medalist. That's not all—he's also a former pro drug-free bodybuilder, which means he knows what it takes to build a strong & healthy body without long-term repercussions.Today, he works as a high-performance coach in the fitness industry—sharing his knowledge & experience to help others achieve their fitness goals.I learned more about how to get and stay healthy from this episode than any other we've recorded (Coach Pow is guest number 91).We discuss dating, sex, relationships, living in Miami & Mexico. And why it's hard to find the right girl if you're an "ass man" and previously dated sprinters.Enjoy!
This episode is a rebroadcast of conversation from last year with Olympians Maddy Price and Georgia Simmerling. Georgia had just launched her company AG Sports Inc, which is the first female driven, female powered sports agency in Canada. Maddy, who was part of the Canadian 4x400m relay team that took 4th at the Tokyo Olympics, was one of AG Sports' first clients. Georgia and Maddy talk about the value of women representing women, about the great strides made by our female athletes, and about what remains to be done to ensure gender equity in the sporting world. Once the New York Giants gave Jones a deal worth $160 million over four years — $82 million is reportedly guaranteed for the first two seasons — the price tag went up for quarterbacks around the league. Way up. If Jones can join Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and six others in the $40 million-per-year club after a breakout season in which he threw just 15 touchdown passes and ran for seven more, how much money will more accomplished QBs get paid? WNBA – Griner’s return to WNBA tips off ESPN coverage Brittney Griner's return to the WNBA will tip off ESPN's coverage of the league's 27th season when the Phoenix Mercury visit the Los Angeles Sparks on May 19 — opening night. Griner missed all of last season after being arrested at an airport just outside of Moscow on drug possession charges in February 2022. She was brought home in a dramatic high-level prisoner exchange in December. The Mercury's home opener two days after the opener will also be broadcast nationally as one of 25 regular-season games that ESPN will show on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2. The New York Liberty, who added former MVPs Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart, as well as Courtney Vandersloot, this offseason will be on national television nine times. Defending champion Las Vegas will appear seven times. Olympics – Canadian Olympians push for opposition to Russians in Paris A group of 42 retired Canadian Olympians are urging their country's Olympic leaders to take a stand against Russians participating in next year's Paris Games. In a statement, the Olympians argue that refusing Russian participation is not simply a matter of denying them a chance to compete because of their passport, it is also a rejection of the war and a recognition of the role sports plays in geopolitics. Signing the statement was a who's-who of Canadian Olympic greats and gold medalists, including Hayley Wickenheiser, Jenn Heil, Alex Bilodeau and Beckie Scott. Russian and Belarusian athletes have been largely excluded from international competition since Russia's invasion of Ukraine last February. The IOC is seeking a pathway back for those athletes. Golf – LIV – LIV Golf effect noticeable as ever at Players Championship There’s no escaping the division caused by LIV Golf, even at The Players Championship. The defending champion is not at TPC Sawgrass for the first time in nearly a decade. That would be Cameron Smith of Australia, who lives down the street. He joined LIV Golf and the PGA Tour suspended him. The runner-up and third-place finisher at the PGA Tour's premier tournament also are now with LIV Golf. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan says it’s a little awkward, but players knew what they were signing up for. The field still is the strongest of the year. And the Stadium Course remains as unpredictable as ever. Golf – Tiger Woods' girlfriend seeks to nullify NDA with pro golfer Tiger Woods' girlfriend wants to nullify a nondisclosure agreement following a six-year relationship with the professional golfer. Court records show that Erica Herman filed a complaint seeking declaratory judgment on Monday in Martin County, Florida. The couple had been living together in the area just north of Palm Beach County. Woods and Herman haven’t publicly announced the end of their relationship, which began in 2017. According to the complaint, a trust controlled by Woods is attempting to silence Herman with a nondisclosure agreement she signed while working as an employee of Woods. The complaint argues that the NDA should be nullified under a federal law that prohibits an NDA from being enforced when sexual assault or sexual harassment is involved. In today's episode, we speak with Maddy Price about...Her mental health journey as a pro athleteHer go-to race day recipes Her favorite supplements for performanceHer experience with body image and "lighter is faster" Her current training and nutrition strategiesHer travel nutrition tipsAbout Maddy:I am a Canadian Olympian, pro 400/4x400m sprinter, motivational speaker, mentor, and advocate for athlete mental health. My road to Tokyo and running full-time was filled with uncertainty as I dealt with my dad's passing from cancer months after missing the 2016 Rio Olympic Team, coming back from foot surgery 12 months out from Tokyo 2020, and then the global pandemic, Olympic postponement, and its challenges.Despite the odds, I helped lead our Women's 4x400m relay team to a 4th place finish at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, just narrowly missing the podium and Canadian Record by six-tenths of a second.Far more important than the accomplishment of becoming an Olympian is how I approached the process... with a gritty and “day by day” attitude. Please note that this podcast is created strictly for educational purposes and should never be used for medical diagnosis and treatment.See you in the next episode!***Find SNEP here: https://nutritional-revolution.com/programs/sports-nutrition-education-program/Find our Menopause Support Meal Plan here: https://nutritional-revolution.com/product/menopause-support-meal-plan/***Mentioned:Maddy PriceWebsite: https://www.maddyprice.net/Instagram: @maddypricelessTikTok: @maddypricelessFacebook: Maddy PriceLinkedIn: Maddy PriceNutritional Supplements Thorne Vitamin D/K2: https://amzn.to/3v1Y0whThorne Ferrasorb Iron: https://amzn.to/3BLhZmDThorne Multi-Vitamin Elite: https://amzn.to/3FIicInThorne Creatine: https://amzn.to/3hzFVTeRecipesThe Modern Proper: https://themodernproper.com/Run Fast. Maddy and Georgia discuss how their relationship evolved, and give us tips on what to look for in an agent, what to avoid, and how to advocate for ourselves when beginning to work with an agency. They also share strategies for marketing ourselves on social media, and illuminate what brands might look for when partnering with athletes. “Things are changing globally and now is the time to invest in women's sport and it's happening. TV rights are going up, sponsorship dollars are going up because there's more exposure on TV and they're seeing the opportunity is there for women. So I'm just trying to stir the pot a little bit and have some tough conversations and they're starting to happen.” - Georgia Simmerling
Maddy Price is a professional track and field athlete (400m) and Canadian Olympian in the Women's 4x400m relay. Off the track, she is a mentor to female athletes, a motivational speaker, an athlete mental health advocate, and a lover of all things food, camping, and travel. Her road to Tokyo was filled with uncertainty as she dealt with recovering from foot surgery with only 12 months to the Olympics, the global pandemic, and losing her dad to cancer just 6 months after missing the Rio 2016 Olympic Team. Despite the odds, she helped lead the Canadian Women's 4x400m Relay team to a 4th place finish, just narrowly missing the podium and a Canadian record by six-tenths of a second. Far more important than the accomplishment of becoming an Olympian is how she approached the process... with a gritty and “day by day” attitude. @maddypriceless, maddyprice.net, voiceinsport.com
