They discuss Jack's racing background, his journey through the brutal world of third-division European racing, how he came to record some of the fastest times up the most famous climbs in the world, why he is struggling to get a contract with a pro team, and his plans for 2025. Beyond the Peloton newsletter's Where to Watch Pro Cycling in 2025 Try The Better Lab today Buy Jack's Book Here (How to Become a Professional Cyclist)

Veronica decided to take a break from racing to recover from RED-S and works hard to be transparent about that journey as well as mental health. Veronica is looking to come back strong in 2025 with her team EF Education-Oatly and to see exactly what kind of rider she can be. Veronica explains how all that is going, what taking time off was like, struggles, goals, and where she has improved her fueling habits. Enticed by the mountain bike trails she could see underneath her skis as she ascended the lift at her local ski area, Jenna Rinehart went from carving turns on on snow to carving turns on dirt. In her early mountain biking career, she often stood atop the podium at what is now one of the oldest mountain bike races in the country: the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival, as well as many other midwest mountain bike races. In 2011 she and her husband bought the Mankato, Minnesota bike shop they worked at and went from starting lines to repair stands and the showroom floor. Nearly a dozen years later Jenna found the time to jump in some local races and ultimately found herself on the starting line of Chequamegon. Her previous form had never left and she did well enough to earn a spot in the Lifetime Grand Prix. After an impressive sixth place overall in 2023, she is working hard for another top-ten finish in 2024. We talked as she has two Lifetime GP races remaining, plus the UCI Gravel World Championships in Belgium. Jenna races on a Specialized Crux on gravel and an Epic on dirt, fills her tires with Orange Seal sealant and rides for the Mazda Orange Seal Off Road team. Host Dr. Lawrence Kosinski is joined by Cory Greenberg, a professional cyclist living with Ulcerative Colitis from Southern California. As a young cyclist, Cory was diagnosed with IBD, putting his dreams of a professional racing career in question. During the worst of his condition, Cory was hospitalized, and doctors told him that a cycling career with IBD would be near impossible. Cory's determination and will to not let his diagnoses stop him from achieving his dreams put him on a journey to set out and overcome his condition by finding a pathway to better health. Applying the lessons learned from his years of training, Cory assembled a team of healthcare professionals, coaches, and mentors to form a treatment plan. After his road to recovery, Cory achieved his dream in 2015 of becoming a professional cyclist, showing that anything can be done, even with IBD. Now living in remission, Cory has set his sights on using cycling as a platform to advocate for the IBD community, by inspiring others to not be ashamed of their diagnosis and to speak out about the struggles of living with IBD, while helping to encourage health and fitness for the IBD community. It wasn't until the pandemic struck that a real passion for cycling was ignited and from there she has excelled in the sport at home and abroad. From National Road Series winner in 2021 to becoming the first Irish woman to complete one of cycling's Grand Tours – La Vuelta Femenina in 2023, Fiona has truly embraced life as a professional cyclist.  Using Girona as her base she travels and races with her team Cynisca Cycling and when the opportunity arises and time permits she loves to come back home to Limerick to spend time with her family and friends. Still relatively new to professional cycling Fiona continues to go from strength to strength and has her sights firmly set on success in the sport, and with her French heritage it is no surprise that the Tour De France is on her bucket list!

Nearly every one of us will go through some mourning with the changes that come with menopause. Even if we go on hormone therapy, which can help a ton, there is some loss that comes at this time. A loss of our reproductive selves. A loss of speed in our sport. A loss of our ability to quickly bounce back after hard workouts. A loss of some aspect of our health, wellness, or appearance. Some are big. Some are small. But they're there and they're real. And that means going through some stages of grief, which is always painful, but also opens us up to a process of discovery and adaptation and transformation, which can take us to some amazing places. This week we explore the process and discuss how to work around the psychological obstacles of menopause with Performance Psychology Consultant, Dr. Kathryn Wilder. Kathryn C. Alongside her sports career, Alison is a biochemist with a graduate degree. Her biggest challenge was overcoming a traumatic brain injury (TBI) from a severe crash, which led her to pursue neuropsychology in grad school. Despite her injuries, she made a strong recovery and continued to excel in cycling, though she ultimately found herself not fully healthy. Alison has openly discussed the difficulties of balancing her professional cycling career with personal well-being. Despite outward success, she faced dark and challenging times internally. Her severe crash resulted in multiple injuries and a TBI, forcing her to reassess her identity beyond just being an athlete. This shift in perspective led her to focus more on her overall health and well-being, emphasizing her roles as a daughter, wife, sister, and scientist. ⁣ Her recovery has been ongoing, involving mental health research, dealing with lingering effects like PTSD and anxiety, and the support of a positive environment and her husband. She stresses the importance of daily self-care and maintaining a balanced life. Her journey of coping with physical and chronic pain from injuries, especially a shattered pelvis. Despite the discomfort, she continued to race, finding solace in the development of more comfortable bike saddles. She highlighted the impact of chronic pain on her outlook on life. ⁣ Currently, Alison is in a great place both professionally and personally, deeply in love with her supportive husband. She enjoys riding her bike and giving back to the cycling community by mentoring and promoting inclusivity, especially for kids and girls. She finds joy in contributing to the sport and being part of the ongoing positive movement in women's sports. Alison views her experiences with both gratitude and a sense of purpose, focusing on how she can use her platform to inspire and support others in the cycling world.

Now a professional gravel cyclist, he rides to inspire others, sharing his story of redemption and proving that the bike can indeed save a life. Coach Blu and Owen Vermeulen discuss how to go about reaching dreams and goals. Realizing that everything that takes time to work on will be worth it. What "freedom of sobriety" means. Getting free of the survival instinct that comes with addiction. He took his chance to go pro because it paid basically the same as a good corporate job in South Africa at the time, and how he's raced all around the world in competitions like the Tour de France and the Olympics.   Check out Ryan on Instagram and Twitter @RyanGibbons23, and you can even follow his bike rides on Strava @RyanGibbons.   If you've ever wanted to learn about the not-so-glamorous life of a pro cyclist, you'll love this episode.   In this conversation, you'll enjoy 3 BIG things: - Why he consumes the sugar equivalent of 4 Coca-Colas per HOUR (!!!) - The one thing he WON'T do to become a better cyclist - And the KEY difference that separates amateur and pro cyclists   Enjoy those 3 things… plus a bunch more ear nuggets along the way.

Ever since he was a child, Taylor Lideen knew he experienced the world differently. Even before he knew that he suffered from depression and anxiety, he noticed that his emotions seemed to run higher than other people's. As a teen, he struggled with his mental health even as he built a  successful career as a cyclist. Over the years, he's won 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo and Unbound XL, and is competing in the Life Time Grand Prix for the second time this year. But his bouts with crippling depression have been a consistent presence in his life, both on and off the bike. Last year, he released a film, Shifting Mindset, in which he opens up for the first time about his struggles with mental health. In this week's episode, Taylor talks about navigating depression and anxiety as a child, and how his love of cycling was both an escape and a trigger. He talks about how meeting his wife Mary in high school changed his life, how his relationship with his dad was caught up in his anxiety about attaining race results, and the therapy he credits with saving his life. Since speaking openly about his battle with mental health, Taylor says he's felt a sense of relief. He tells Payson why he felt it was the right time to address his struggles publicly, and how he's hoping others might benefit from hearing his story. Instagram: @theadventurestache

When Meg Fisher went to college, she was a walk-on for the University of Montana's Division 1 tennis team, but was taken out of the sport and the life she knew when a catastrophic car accident left her in a coma. When her leg was amputated, it was the least of her doctors' worries. Most of them assumed that she would never be able to live independently, let alone walk, but Meg proved them (and herself) wrong, earning a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and becoming a 3x triathlon world champion and a multi-medal winning Paralympian at the 2012 and 2016 Games. More recently, she's been focused on bringing paracycling categories to gravel races and expanding resources for physically impaired people in under-served countries. In this conversation, Meg tells Payson about marking the 20th anniversary of the crash, accidentally melting one of her prosthetic legs at Rebecca's Private Idaho, and why she attributes "everything in her life" to a cattle dog named Betsy. She also talks about how meaningful it has been to be recognized within the cycling community, and being overcome with emotion when her teammates from the 2012 Paralympic Games came to cheer her on at Steamboat this year.

“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” — C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory, and Other Addresses The Virginia born pro cyclist and wildlife photographer Ben King joins us for a conversation to talk all things outdoors and their impact in his life. When Ben isn't ascending the mountains on the European cycling tours he lives in Italy with his wife and newborn child. He is what Bryan and I call “our people.” Ben loves to hunt and fish, an admitted birder, and gifted photographer. In this episode we cover his experiences in cycling and how the outdoors has been a space for him to slow down from a profession that is always at full speed. Ben reflects on how birding has genuinely driven him to worship. He recognized that the joys of the outdoors are a gift and joy from God but also a foretaste of the feast that is to come.
