The 54th episode of JIM ON THE AIR features the director and cast of the NEW musical MISS YOU LIKE HELL! This show will be produced by OUT OF THE BOX THEATER COMPANY and is making its South and Central Coast premiere at Center Stage Theater in Santa Barbara! My guests include Samantha Eve, Executive Director of Out of the Box, and the two leads of the show, Michelle Hernandez, who plays Beatriz, and Lara Mehlig, who plays Olivia. The show runs November 4th thru November 13 at Center Stage. For tickets, visit www.centerstagetheater.org/show-details/miss-you-like-hell. When a whip-smart, deeply imaginative teenager agrees to take a road trip with her free-spirited Latina mother, neither can imagine where it will take them. Chance encounters with a medley of characters along the way brings them closer to understanding what sets them apart—and what connects them forever. At the heart of the story is a mother-daughter relationship complicated and threatened by immigration policies. MISS YOU LIKE HELL reminds us that musicals have the power to explore the exposed territory where the political becomes personal. Featuring compelling original songs that are every bit as diverse and eclectic as America. MISS YOU LIKE HELL is a new musical that exudes the joy, love, and frustration of being a family in a changing country. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jim-sirianni/support

Welcome back festival friends! When music and Summer meet in Atlanta it can mean only one thing: Festival season! On this episode, our host, Pat Tully, sits down with the founder of The Candler Park Music Festival, Josh Antenucci. Josh cut his teeth in the live events business in Washington, DC, where he began working in bars, nightclubs and live events while at George Washington University in the heart of downtown DC. Antenucci co-founded Atlanta's Rival Entertainment in 2004 and operates three independent venues including the iconic Center Stage Theater. Since its origin, Rival Entertainment has narrowed focus on the creation and production of unique live concert experiences, which Antenucci produces, overseeing event operations, production, concessions & safety. Notable events include the annual Candler Park Music Festival in Atlanta's Candler Park neighborhood. Ok, soooo you know that musical "Rent?" It was a groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning, and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical that changed the course of how musicals are done "at the end of the millennium" and into this current millennium. Well!... it was written by Jonathan Larson. But before Larson wrote "Rent," he wrote a show called "Tick, Tick...Boom!" Larson's autobiographical musical is the story of a composer and the sacrifices that he made to achieve his big break in theatre. Out of The Box Theatre of Santa Barbara is producing this play at Center Stage Theater at the end of April. I had a chance to talk with the Artistic Director for Out of The Box, Samantha Eve, and she fills us in on their production of Tick, Tick Boom. Long-time F-Ward residents Carrie and Arthur endure various therapies inflicted by their less than empathetic wardens, Cassandra and Adam. When new patient Rick arrives, the strange mix of realities he faces rattle his confidence in his own. What is real and what makes it that way? This episode of JIM ON THE AIR features dancer Hannah Ruth Brothers. Hannah will perform at the RE: EMERGE DANCE FESTIVAL held in Santa Barbara, CA. The festival will be produced by Center Stage Theater and the UCSB Initiative for New & Reimagined Work. It will be held Thursday, June 17 through Saturday, June 19 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, June 20 at 2:00 pm at Center Stage Theater. The 4-day event is directed and curated by Brandon Whited. After several difficult months traveling through a “dark tunnel,” it is exciting to finally see some lights at the end of that tunnel – some very bright lights! Center Stage and the UCSB Initiative for New & Reimagined Work are very excited to welcome back both performers and audiences to the theater and they thought it was an excellent time to celebrate. The opening night of the festival is a collection of dance films. The following three programs will be a hybrid of both live and video performances. One week after the live festival the performances will be available for a limited run as video-on-demand through the Center Stage website – www.centerstagetheater.org. In this episode, I have a chat with Daisy Mohrman and Cory Cullington. Their dance film will be featured in the RE: EMERGE DANCE FESTIVAL. Center Stage Theater and the UCSB Initiative for New & Reimagined Work are presenting the festival Thursday, June 17 through Saturday, June 19 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, June 20 at 2:00 pm at Center Stage Theater. This 4 day festival of dance is directed and curated by Brandon Whited. Daisy's piece is a dance film set to "Harvest Moon" by Modern Crusoe (originally by Neil Young). The entire piece takes place with the lone female dancer physically connected to a wall for almost the entire duration of the piece. The wall represents her lover or relationships and love in general. The choreography is driven by the connection with the wall. Although emotional expression and romantic connection will be highlighted, the movement invention comes from finding new and unexpected ways to dance with an immobile partner. This piece was conceptualized in collaboration with videographer and cinematographer Cory Cullington. Actor/writer Peter Fox has written a companion piece to Eve Ensler's much-loved "Vagina Monologues." His is called the "Testicle Monologues: If These Balls Could Talk" and has been recorded with professional actors and is being live-streamed at Santa Barbara's Center Stage Theater as a fund-raising event. Much like Ensler's feminine tour de force, Peter's play is a set of loosely woven, hilarious, touching and poignant reflections on man's distinctive pair of characteristics. We talk about Fox's pandemic-induced creativity, the role of the arts in culture, the tremendous hardship, and also opportunity, faced by arts organizations - as imperiled as they are, the human hunger for the nourishment of the creative arts has reached a fever pitch. We talk about how this pent-up enthusiasm, following a fallow period for artists, could lead to a cultural flourishing not seen since the Roaring '20s. Fox grew up in the Chicago area as second of eight children, and was introduced to show business at an early age, doing modeling for department stores as well as television commercials. He went to Harvard University on a scholarship, where he participating in the famous Hasty Pudding shows. Despite his fancy degree he did not have a post-college plan, drifting into acting through bartending, where he was discovered through a very Lana Turner-at-Schwab's Deli-esque moment. He first came to acting fame through a lead role as Otter on the "Delta House" television show, then made the move into writing with a script for the show "Simon & Simon" and has written for stage and screen, including "Acts of God," which played for months in Los Angeles and was picked up by script publisher Samuel French, one of Peter's most glorious moments. Peter grew up in a cultural milieu that included his high school "frenemy" Bill Murray, as well as John Hughes, Charlton Heston, Gilda Radner and Ann Margret. In fact, a couple years ago he attended a fundraiser at Fordham University with John Prine playing, then hopped in a limo to go to Bill Murray's Christmas party further up the Hudson River. We had a surprise visitor show up during our call, who challenged the veracity of many of Peter's family stories. We did not talk about the Inuit diet, anarchist hero Nestor Mahkno or the Mississippi flyways. Further links: www.centerstagetheater.org. The show will be up til January 31 and all proceeds go to the Center Stage Theater. Candid Camera: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mGlQeSbou0

Armando Iannucci, writer of The Thick of It, discusses his new film satire The Death of Stalin and his love of classical music as explored in his book, Hear Me Out.Kwame Kwei-Armah has been running the Center Stage Theater in Baltimore and in February will take over the Young Vic in London. Meanwhile he's directing The Lady From the Sea, in a new version by Elinor Cook that transports Ibsen's Scandi drama of a woman's tussle for her independence to the Caribbean. John Wilson finds out why, and what Kwei-Armah has up his sleeve for his new job.Form 696 is a risk assessment form which the Metropolitan Police requests promoters and licensees of events complete and submit 14 days in advance of hosting some music events. When the form was first introduced in 2005 it proved controversial as it asked for details of audience ethnicity and, although this wasamended later, critics still say the form is discriminatory because grime and urban music artists are disproportionately affected. As London Mayor Sadiq Khan asks the Met to review the form, and a new report on the state of grime music in the UK is published, we discuss Form 696 and its impact on the grassroots music scene with the Director for the Black Music Research Unit at the University of Westminster, Mykaell Riley and music journalist Hattie Collins. And we remember the actor and comedian Sean Hughes whose death was announced on Monday. Presenter : John Wilson Producer : Dymphna Flynn.

This episode of Exile on Badstreet was recorded in February 2016 and is now dedicated to the memory of Joe Pedicino. Joe was the "Pied Piper" of Atlanta TV wrestling in the late 80’s-early 90’s, and helped break Scott Hudson and Steven Prazak into the wrestling business. So if you haven't listened before...make sure you listen to this show, as it's one of my favorite shows I've ever done. — Kris is joined by Scott Hudson & Steven Prazak to talk all things Atlanta Boys & Georgia independent wrestling as well as Global Wrestling Federation et al.
