Yet the host's improving strength in both racket sports and the strong competition from the United States in gymnastics and Germany in shooting have heralded tough battles for gold. Designated to march into the opening ceremony as 111th among the delegations, Team China will be spearheaded by two flag-bearers-men's taekwondo reigning champion Zhao Shuai and women's volleyball star Zhu Ting, who were confirmed by the Chinese Olympic Committee on Saturday as being selected to shoulder the duty of honor.中国代表团在开幕式第111位出场,将由两名旗手带头——男子跆拳道卫冕冠军赵帅和女子排球明星朱婷,他们在周六被中国奥委会确认肩负荣誉之责。Zhu helped the Chinese women's squad claim a high-profile gold medal in volleyball five years ago in Rio, and Zhao made history by winning China's first Olympic gold in men's taekwondo when he triumphed in the 58 kg category in Brazil.朱婷在五年前的里约奥运会上为中国女排获得了一块备受瞩目的排球金牌,而赵帅则创造了历史,他在巴西获得了中国男子跆拳道58公斤级的首枚奥运金牌。"I really appreciate the trust from our delegation. I feel greatly motivated by it," said 26-year-old Zhu, captain of the Chinese team.“真的很感谢我们代表团的信任。对我来说,担任旗手是一个巨大的荣誉。让我备受鼓舞”,26岁的中国队队长朱婷说。"Watching our national flag hoisted along with the national anthem is always my goal, and that of the Chinese women's volleyball team as well."“看着我们的国旗随着国歌升起,一直是我的目标,也是中国女排的目标。”

On this week's episode, Harvey shares a conversation with the brilliant Austin Einhorn - Founder of Apiros Movement Training in Santa Cruz, California.  During his tenure of coaching movement, Austin has had the privilege to help athletes and organizations in every major professional sports league in America; including the PGA, Seattle Seahawks, Houston Rockets, US Men's National Volleyball Team, Stanford Men's Volleyball Team, Chinese Olympic Committee, and professional surfers.   Before finding his career in natural movement training, Austin had a decorated career playing volleyball at the University of California - Santa Cruz.  He garnered a 3-time All American status, helping the program finish 2nd and 3rd in the NCAA Tournament. Austin's journey growing up as a naturally curious kid, as well as his passion for athletics led him to constantly internally challenge the current movement training paradigm.  He views the path of athletic mastery as an "encompassing blissful journey where we progressively improve our beliefs, movements, language, the optimization of our cellular and mitochondrial health, psychology and more." As Harvey and Austin dive deeply into the nuance of movement, they discuss the misunderstanding of shoulder movement, the value in learning how babies move, the evolution of movement through in history and through a lifetime, and Austin's quest to minimize non-contact injury.  Check out where to find the key insights below! Auger points out that Lesnar has, for the most part, previously let his contract lapse to create bidding wars between the WWE, UFC, and other interested parties. Auger expects Lesnar to return to WWE. Then, Auger discusses the potential Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz rematch for the BMF title. What does this mean for the UFC? Most importantly, this leaves the door open for the winner to face Conor McGregor. The Business of Sport

In the first in a series of Business of Sport podcasts with the International Sports Convention, Callum Murray speaks to Sarah Lewis, secretary general of the FIS, the international ski federation. One of the very few women in a senior administrative and governance role in an international Olympic sport federation, Sarah joined the FIS in 1994, having been a member of the British Alpine Ski Team from 1982 to 1988 and competed in the 1987 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships and 1988 winter Olympic Games. With a reputation for strong opinions and plain speaking, Sarah begins by addressing the Corona virus epidemic, after the FIS was forced to cancel one of its World Cup events scheduled to be held in China this spring, as a result of the outbreak. The event was due to be the first-ever FIS World Cup in China, as well as a test event for the 2022 winter Olympic Games in Beijing, but the FIS took the advice of its own medical commission, as well as the local organising committee and the Chinese Olympic Committee in making the difficult decision to cancel the event. The FIS will now consider how and when to reschedule the event, Sarah explains. Two weeks before the podcast was recorded, Sarah had attended the third edition of the winter Youth Olympic Games, held in the Olympic capital of Lausanne, Switzerland. What does the FIS gain from participation in those games, and what did Sarah herself, a member of the IOC's co-ordination commission for the games, learn from them? For FIS, says Sarah, the games “provide a great opportunity to underline the importance of the development pathway for youth sports in a very high-profile setting, which is what the Olympic brand gives you.” The games also offer the opportunity to showcase new formats and create a workshop for the overall revised Olympic model, including decentralisation and the use of existing facilities. The FIS has just launched its own eSports game, World Cup Racing, and Sarah goes on to discuss the eSports phenomenon. There has been some controversy over the IOC's apparent flirtation with eSports. Some think computer games simply encourage inactivity; others regard eSports as valid sports in their own right. Could playing World Cup Ski Racing ever persuade a couch potato to put skis on and try the real thing? Yes, says Sarah, there's research that shows that up to 10 per cent of games players could be provoked to try out skiing for real, albeit “perhaps not on a World Cup downhill course for their very first experience!” The game represents “a new platform to promote skiing globally, a tool to reach out to an audience that we wouldn't normally have daily contact with,” Sarah says, as well as an additional revenue stream, with skiing brands providing the prizes, while revenues from in-game purchases are shared between the FIS, the game developer and national ski associations. Just two weeks after its launch, the game had received 50,000 unique installs from 170 countries, with 16,000 hours played, Sarah reveals. In May 2020, there will be a FIS presidential election, with GianFranco Kaspar, the long-serving incumbent, due to step down after 22 years in the role. What are Sarah's hopes for his successor, and could that person be a woman, for the first time in the FIS's history? A new president should remain true to the FIS's core mission to develop snow sports throughout the world, despite an increasing emphasis on developing revenues, Sarah says, while pointing out that the federation is already practising positive discrimination in favour of women, with at least three places set to be reserved for women on its board in future. Sarah also addresses the future of snow sports in an era of climate change, admitting that some low-lying resorts have been hard-hit, but stressing that many have diversified their income sources, by becoming year-round facilities catering for walkers and mountain bikers, as well as skiers. Meanwhile, the production of artificial snow has become much more efficient, using less water and less energy. Sarah concludes the podcast with advice to young people seeking a career in sports administration, her most memorable sporting moment, her top sporting hero and an answer to the difficult question: ‘What is sport for?'

Today’s guest is Joseph Coyne, exercise physiologist and sport scientist from Gold Coast, Australia.  Joseph is a well-rounded performance coach who has spent a lot of time recently in the realm of training world-class track and field sprinters and jumpers in China. I don’t remember exactly how I came across Joseph’s work, but the quality of his training videos are first class and I know he has also had tremendous mentors in the field, such as working with Randy Huntington.  From altering the paradigm on jump mats and testing, to resisted and assisted training, as well as special strength work in the gym, I’d been really looking forward to having Joseph on this podcast for some time. Joseph is currently the Physical Preparation Coach for the Chinese Athletics Association's jump & sprints section; where he handles the rehabilitation and strength & power training for China’s best track & field athletes.  Many of those he worked with had world top-20 marks.  Previously, he was the Performance Manager at the Chinese Olympic Committee’s National Sports Training Centre in Beijing in the lead up to the Rio Olympics.  He also spent time as a performance manager with the Chinese Olympic committee through EXOS, and had a long-running performance clinic in Queensland. Topics we’ll cover today are numerous, and will include sand sprinting, special strength for sprinters and jumpers, ideas on maximal strength for sprint athletes, complex training, ideas on jump training and the “maximal displacement” theory, hamstring training, and Joeseph’s work with the 1080 sprint and kBox. Today’s episode is brought to you by SimpliFaster, supplier of high-end athletic development tools, such as the Freelap timing system, kBox, Sprint 1080, and more. Key Points: Joseph’s background as an athlete and as a coach Sand sprinting for track and field sprinters Strength and special strength for sprint athletes Takes on maximal strength training for high end sprinters When and when not to use complex training means Maximal displacement as opposed to a simple RSI test in vertical jump work Usage of the 1080 sprint and kBox in training sprinters and jumpers Hamstring training and injury prevention Quotes “You can have awesome, (ideas for progression) in the weight room, but sometimes, you have a hamstring problem!” “My non-technical training is really simple, it’s either a max strength day, or it’s a power day” “I think instead of an RSI, look at maximal displacement at certain contact times” “You look at (the contact times for your event) and try to maximize displacement at those contact times” “I couldn’t do too many Nordic hamstrings with the guys because it would blow them up the back of the knee” “One thing with all the fascial length research is that isometrics can actually shorten the fascial length which may predispose you to injury; eccentrics definitely seem to lengthen it” “I go with a low volume approach for Nordic hamstrings; starting with 2 sets of 2” About Joseph Coyne Joseph Coyne is an exercise physiologist and sport scientist from Gold Coast, Australia.  He is currently the Physical Preparation Coach for the Chinese Athletics Association's jump & sprints section; where he handles the rehabilitation and strength & power training for China’s best track & field athletes.  Previously, he was the Performance Manager at the Chinese Olympic Committee’s National Sports Training Centre in Beijing in the lead up to the Rio Olympics.  Athletes supported by this program won 34 medals (including 19 gold medals) at the 2016 Olympics.  As a speaker, Joseph has lectured at a number of international conferences including in China, United Kingdom, United States, Australia and New Zealand.
