Join Chris and I as we discuss the evolution of being a fan of music in the physical media age. From scouring the "thank you's" for bands you should check out to the era of the producer/labels being as much of a factor in what albums you bought as the bands themselves. We get into how bands go about choosing producers now when it doesn't seem to be as important, as well as the misinformation surrounding cowriters in metal and rock music. Chris opens up about how the band played it a bit safe on their comeback record, and how that became the impetus for really doing what they wanted on their latest record. Chris also shares what lead to the band canceling a tour, and how close the band was to possibly breaking up if they hadn't. We discuss Chris's new podcast, Late For Load In, and how that has been for him to dive into and so much more in this wide ranging chat with The Ghost Inside guitarist. With the start of the 2025 General Assembly session, the CBIA BizCast team sat down with CBIA vice president of public policy Chris Davis to discuss the session and CBIA's ReimagineCT policy solutions. Supported by a bipartisan group of 73 lawmakers and a growing coalition of businesses, the policy solutions are designed to drive economic growth, address the high costs of living and running a business, expand career pathways, and foster innovation. "If legislators were able to really sit back and think about, 'Is this making Connecticut more affordable, and is it making easier to employ people here in Connecticut,' I think you'll see a lot of good legislation get passed," Davis said. CBIA developed the solutions in collaboration with residents and business leaders from across the state. “What's really impressed me is the level of engagement that our business community has, especially around public policy issues,” Davis said. “These are items that they have said to us, ‘If we can implement these changes, we can really start moving the needle here in Connecticut to grow our economy and improve our workforce.'” Davis said the ReimagineCT policy solutions are a way to build coalitions around critical issues to the business community. “It's a way for us to really have those conversations across party lines about these real solutions that will really grow our economy and our workforce," Davis said. "Because at the end of the day, that's not a partisan issue. “Trying to get your constituents more access to jobs and trying to help those businesses within their communities, is something that transcends party.” While Davis and the CBIA's policy team will be advocating for these solutions at the State Capitol, he said CBIA members and the business community also play an important role. “One of the key things that we do on our public policy team is getting out and meeting with members,” he said. “We oftentimes will bring a legislator with us and have them have the opportunity to see firsthand exactly how that business operates here in Connecticut. “Hearing directly from your own constituent business can play such a huge role in your decision making process as a legislator.” Related Links: ReimagineCT: https://www.cbia.com/news/media-center/reimaginect-cbia-2025-policy-solutions-2 https://www.cbia.com/resources/issues-policies/reimaginect-general-assembly-pledges CBIA Website: https://www.cbia.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cbia/

Olivia, a little girl, writes a letter to Santa asking him to reveal who her one true love will be. They go to sleep and wake up the next morning to find Santa has brought her a dollhouse. Stupid Santa. She thinks, "I'm sure Santa will give me a name soon—how long could it really take?"Fast forward 25 years: Olivia is now a hotshot dealmaker who always rates her Uber driver with stars and hands money to the Santa ringing a bell on the street. She works as a designer for sets at Style Home Network. As she's preparing for an upcoming shoot, Olivia gets called into her boss's office. They're interested in having her on camera! She's pumped—this is what she's worked for. But her excitement is quickly extinguished when she finds out Chris Davis is directing the special. Chris directs a show called Model Home, which Olivia thinks is tacky. She's unsure how to feel, so she hops into her Uber and vents to the driver, Rodney, about how she thinks Chris is the worst possible choice. Rodney encourages her to give Chris a chance. Olivia asks, "How did you know his last name?" and then realizes, to her surprise, that Rodney isn't really Rodney—it's Chris Davis in disguise.Chris explains that the network bought Olivia's childhood home for the remodel, and it's going to be the feature of the special. Olivia protests that the house needs too much work for a one-episode show—it should be a full season. But Chris doesn't budge, even when he almost falls through the wall.Olivia invites her sister Darcy over for some inspiration, and while they're there, they hear a strange ringing in the walls. Olivia reaches inside a vent and finds a letter addressed to her. To her shock, it's the letter she wrote to Santa all those years ago. She opens it, and a mysterious rhyme reveals her one true love's name: Nick. Olivia scoffs and throws the letter in the trash, but the next morning, it reappears in her possession. She throws it away again. Then, Olivia has not one, but three rom-com-worthy meet-cutes. She has an encounter with a Nick A in a coffee shop after a coffee swap, spills her coffee on a Nick B, and narrowly avoids getting hit by a truck thanks to a Nick C, who rescues her. And the letter keeps showing up!Olivia gets all three Nicks' numbers and decides, "When life gives you three Nicks, you go on three dates." But will she even have time? She's got a meeting with Chris at the house. The meeting doesn't exactly go well. Her date with Nick A is next. He's rented out an entire ice rink for just the two of them. They have a great time—until she accidentally pops a bottle of champagne cork right into his eye. Their romantic evening ends with a trip to the hospital, but they laugh it off.Back on set, Olivia and Chris's relationship is still tense, but there's some undeniable flirty energy. Then, Olivia and Darcy visit a custom woodworking shop for potential show inspiration—and it turns out Nick B owns the shop. The pair head to a Christmas festival, where Olivia accidentally hits Nick B in the head with a snowball during a competition with Chris. He jokes, "Guess I'm a knock-out," but it's hard to ignore the growing tension between Olivia and Nick B.Olivia's date with Nick C is a disaster. He's a firefighter who's posing for a calendar, and after a cookie incident that triggers his nut allergy, he ends up in the hospital. Womp womp.Olivia is starting to freak out—what is she supposed to do? That's when the letter in her purse changes again. This time, it says she must choose the right Nick by midnight on Christmas Eve. Darcy encourages her to date all three Nicks as much as possible before then.Cue the dating montage. While at her childhood home, Olivia finds Christmas decorations she thought were lost forever, bringing back fond memories. Chris stops by and suggests using some of her old sketches as inspiration for the remodel, which could save money on the set design. Olivia begins to warm to Chris, especially when he implements ideas from her sketches in the dining room.On a date with Nick C (still everyone's least favorite), Olivia is inspired to put a giant bow on the house. Oddly, Chris agrees with the idea. He shows her the dining room, where he's incorporated her childhood designs.Olivia starts to soften toward Chris. He's actually pretty great, and they both want the same thing. But just as things start to look promising, Nick B arrives with a handmade reindeer. They talk about where to go on their date, but Olivia feels a disconnect with him. Then, she shows up at Chris's house to decorate his tree, but when he invites her in, she insists she's got plans. They try hugging twice, but it doesn't quite happen, so they settle for a fist bump. Olivia giggles and walks away.On her date with Nick A, they're under the mistletoe. He leans in for a kiss to take her mind off work, and sparks fly.The next day at work, Olivia and Chris watch the final cut of their pre-recorded segment. To celebrate, Chris surprises her with a winter wonderland set up at the network's prop warehouse. There's even a snow machine. It's magical. They walk out of the set and give money to a British Santa ringing a bell. Just as they almost kiss, Olivia gets a text, snapping her back to reality. As Christmas Eve approaches, Olivia is faced with the tough decision of choosing which Nick to pursue. The letter changes one final time, and the time has come to pick. It's Christmas Eve, and Olivia is preparing for the live broadcast. All three Nicks show up to surprise her. Just as she's about to go live, the three of them realize they're all dating the same woman and end up in a ridiculous inflatable candy cane fight in the background of the broadcast. Olivia runs out to stop them, but they demand she choose. She can't pick, so all three leave, and Chris storms off angrily. The special is a flop—or so Olivia thinks. Surprisingly, social media loves her and the Nicks, and the special goes viral. Olivia gets offered her own show!Olivia realizes that Chris is her Christmas dream man, but she's going to have to stop him before his train leaves at midnight. Her sister locks her keys in the car, so they take a one-horse open sleigh to the station.Chris is at the train station when Olivia arrives, just as the train is about to leave. He's talking to a British Santa in street clothes, and the two chat briefly. Chris goes to board the train but finds a letter instead of his ticket. The letter tells him getting on the train would be the biggest mistake of his life.Olivia arrives just as the train departs. But Chris isn't on the train. He's holding the letter that told him to stay. They apologize for how things went and admit they've both fallen for each other. Just as they're about to kiss, the intercom announces a Nick Davis is needed. Olivia asks, “Wait, your name is Nick?” Chris explains, “Yeah, but I've gone by my middle name since I was a kid.” The clock strikes midnight, snow begins to fall, and they kiss—a big one.And just like that, Jack is alive. Olivia says, “This was worth waiting for,” and they kiss some more.

By playing through two 20-year old games (read: bonafide classics!): Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater! Brad and Nolan deliver some early impressions of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and then highlight 4 seperate games from UFO 50 that have their hooks in deep! After a week off to play Dale & Dawson Stationery Supplies together (seriously, check it out), we return to the podcast studio to talk about the latest and greatest in the gaming industry. First up, Sony debuted a new State of Play presentation which, among other things, revealed Ghost of Yotei to the world (the long awaited sequel to Ghost of Tsushima). After a few minor technical hiccups, we get back on track with impressions of UFO 50; an impressive collection of (50) games designed and built around the specs for a imaginary piece of retro gaming hardware! Krispy and Nick gush over Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 and Chris Davis finally got his hands on Dead Rising Deluxe Remastered! Of course, Warhammer also has Krispy spiraling towards an inevitable (and expensive) future in the tabletop space. Sony manages to be the talk of the town this week in more ways than one... First, we delve into the ridiculous Playstation 5 Pro announcement: a $700 system with NO DISC DRIVE and NO STAND included. Luckily, Astro Bot also released this week and has easily won the hearts of all of us who have played. Brad talks about new indie hotness, Shogun Showdown, and Krispy finally has his opportunity to talk about his extensive time with Star Wars Outlaws; a game he is thoroughly enjoying! Of course, this also leads to bewildering discussions about "Space Jizz" (you read that right) and eventually, more of Chris Davis's hilarious homebuilding shenanigans. What a wild (and not great) week it has been in the world of video games! Sony shut down Concord less than two weeks after it launched to middling critical reception and tragic concurrent player counts. On top of that, Hideaki Itsuno - the famed designer behind classics like Power Stone, Devil May Cry, and Dragon's Dogma - announced that he is leaving Capcom after 3 decades. Despite all of the doom and gloom, new and exciting games continue to trickle out. Nick gives us his early impressions of Star Wars Outlaws which has been competing heavily with Black Myth Wukong for his time. Nolan walks us through his experience with the Quest 3 VR headset over the weekend and Brad talks about a cool new "Mesoamerican Fantasy RPG" called Arco. During the 4Player Minute, Chris Davis stuns with a shocking revelation about... Mattress shopping? It's release week for Deadpool & Wolverine and Comic-Con so movie-talk does manage to worm it's way in at the top of the show! After that, Nick talks about a delicious new survival-horror game, CONSCRIPT, which captures the overwhelmingly bleak backdrop of World War 1 through a top-down Resident Evil lens. Brad takes a deeper dive into Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure now that the full game is out (and FREE on Netflix apparently!) and Krispy talks about his time with Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail which has hit a proverbial reset button on the story with this latest expansion. Sony dropped the price of the PSVR2 finally and Chris Davis revisits Pacific Drive and talks late game developments. July might feel like a bit of a lull in the world of video games but there is plenty of fun to be found if dig a little deeper. Brad has now spent a good chunk of time with the full release of Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess. As it turns out, despite some rough edges, the game is... pretty darn cool! Chris Davis played through the first full episode of Fallen Aces; A retro FPS mixed with lite immersive sim elements that leans into comic books and classic detective stories to deliver something fresh! Finally, Nick also found himself playing a game focused around a detective but with a very different wrapper. Nobody Wants to Die is a futuristic, cyberpunk adjacent detective thriller running in Unreal Engine 5 (herefore referred to as a "Triple I" game)! On June 29, 1988, around 2:30 a.m., Christopher "Chris" Davis drove home after working the night shift at his local McDonald's. Driving along Browntown Road, which cuts through the dense woods of Scape Ore Swamp in South Carolina, Chris hears the pop of a flat tire on his car. As he finishes installing the spare, he notices something large and dark coming out of the trees, moving towards him about 30 yards away and swinging its arms. In an interview with The Item newspaper, Chris described seeing this humanoid creature with glowing red eyes close up, saying it was "green, wetlike, about seven feet tall and had three fingers... a red-eyed devil." Terrified, Davis ran to the driver's door and jumped in. Once inside, this bipedal beast was now right outside his window, where he could see it from the neck down. It then jumped up onto the roof of his car, where he could see its "rough-looking, black-fingernailed hands, sticking down from the windshield." The cryptid deeply grunts as Chris peels out, attempting to escape. As he estimated he was driving about 35-40 mph, this thing had caught up to the car and jumped onto the roof again, banging and clawing at it. The creature finally fell off as he swerved frantically, racing home. This encounter would become the best-known report of this impossible monster emerging from Scape Ore Swamp, but it was not the first, nor would it be the last.  At least one verified account tells of a sighting occurring two years prior, and a handful of police reports describe run-ins that happened in the years following Davis's experience. Chris Davis never called it the "Lizard Man," but residents had already labeled some previously seen brute by that description. And when a local reporter printed the nickname, the moniker stuck in the broader public's imagination. Sheriff Liston Truesdale was the one person who vetted all the claims, took reports from witnesses, and investigated their stories. And we're fortunate and grateful to have on our show tonight the one person who spent time interviewing Sheriff Truesdale, questioned locals, visited locations, and wrote a book about it all, our friend and noted cryptozoology researcher and author Lyle Blackburn. Lyle's 2013 book, Lizard Man: The True Story of the Bishopville Monster, is the phenomenon's most comprehensive and detailed history. As the sightings and questions continue, perhaps the most puzzling and troubling thing is whether everyone sees the same being and whether it is reptilian, more Bigfoot-like, or some other horror altogether.
