In this episode of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast, Dan is joined by Michael MacPherson to discuss BFR training (Blood flow restriction) adaptations, including endurance gains and other physiological considerations. Dr. Michael MacPherson's diverse background in college athletics, education, coaching, and surgical consulting has given him a unique perspective on human performance, rehabilitation, and recovery. His work spans from training high-level athletes to helping individuals regain function after surgery—all with a focus on optimizing results through innovative methods like Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training. Dr. MacPherson has worked with individuals across the lifespan, from children as young as three to adults in their nineties. His passion for health and performance began as a collegiate football player at Michigan Technological University. After his playing career ended, he transitioned into strength and conditioning, coaching at both Michigan Tech and the University of Toledo. He then spent a decade teaching and coaching at the high school level, where he built a speed and strength program that expanded to serve athletes from elementary school through high school. He also began virtual training, programming, and consulting, working with teams and athletes. After 10 years in the weight room, Dr. MacPherson shifted his focus to sports medicine, working as a surgical consultant in the operating room. Observing procedures like ACL reconstructions, meniscus repairs, rotator cuff repairs, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) corrections, and lateral ankle reconstructions firsthand, he became increasingly focused on rehabilitation strategies tailored to each surgery and patient. It was in the operating room that he discovered Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training and its ability to enhance recovery, build strength, and accelerate rehabilitation with minimal mechanical stress. Once he understood the benefits of BFR, there was no turning back. He has since dedicated himself to educating thousands of athletic trainers, physical therapists, and strength coaches on the science and application of BFR. Recognizing that education is a major barrier preventing many from utilizing this powerful tool, he has immersed himself in research and outreach to bridge the gap between science and practice. For more on Michael, be sure to check out clinicalbfr.com and @clinicalbfr and @dr_macpherson on Instagram! *SEASON 6 of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast is brought to you by Isophit. Donovan Campbell, CEO, and his organization Medbridge are urging CMS to finalize specific refinements to RTM as part of the Calendar Year 2026 Physician Fee Schedule (CMS-1832-P), recognizing that RTM is critical for supporting physical therapy, patient health, and patient engagement. We will explore how this shift provides a crucial financial incentive for organizations, but more importantly, how the successful adoption of RTM enhances the clinical value proposition by improving population health, lowering overall costs, and tackling the problem of access barriers to conservative care.

Donovan Campbell, CEO of Medbridge, empowers clinicians through a platform that is focused on movement-based medicine and a holistic approach to patient care. MedBridge has developed AI tools to perform triage, act as a care coordinator, and serve as a patient-facing coach, offloading administrative tasks and providing better support to patients. These tools are designed to support clinicians by flagging potential issues and increasing patient engagement by delivering immediate digital access to care.  Donovan explains, "We serve primarily physical therapists. And those physical therapists can work either in what's called a private practice outpatient setting or in a hospital setting, whether that's inpatient rehab or outpatient rehab. We also service physical therapy and adjacent practitioners, such as athletic trainers, speech and language pathologists, or occupational therapists. With the release of our new hybrid care platform, we're moving into different care categories, which is really exciting. So we're increasingly working with advanced primary care companies that service the employer health market. That's exciting. And we're exploring other opportunities within women's health and within orthopedics."   "Movement-based medicine is relevant to a really holistic approach to patient care, and it spans multiple clinical specialties. So think about the elderly patient who's just had a right knee replacement. Movement-based medicine is critical to getting them back up and on their feet. For a woman postpartum, pelvic health and movement-based medicine are really important. And pelvic health, movement-based medicine that she can access at home, is really important in her recovery and meeting her where she's at in her phase of life. And then physical therapy obviously is all about movement-based medicine."   #Medbridge #DigitalHealth #HealthcareAI #FutureAI #MovementBasedMedicine medbridge.com Download the transcript here

In this episode of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast, Dan is joined by Tyler Kallasy to discuss strategies for building a better career in performance and rehab, including the blended practice model developed by Ray Gorman.Tyler is the founder of Beyond Pain Physical Therapy and a Doctor of Physical Therapy dedicated to helping people move, perform, and live without limitation. He founded Beyond Pain to deliver a higher level of care than what the traditional healthcare system allows. After spending years working inside that system, he saw how rushed and impersonal it often was, how little time there was to truly understand the person in front of him. That realization inspired him to create something different. At Beyond Pain, Tyler has built a practice where care slows down, conversations go deeper, and every plan is built around the individual—their goals, their body, and their life—not an insurance checklist. Now based in Denver, Colorado, Tyler lives with his fiancée, Courtney, and their two dogs, Cascade and Porter. Together, they spend as much time outdoors as possible—hiking, camping, road-tripping, and exploring new places. That sense of adventure keeps him grounded and inspired.Fitness and movement have always been central to Tyler's life. He's run the New York City Marathon, completed an ultramarathon, and competed in CrossFit and powerlifting. Through both personal challenges and athletic pursuits, he's experienced the highs of peak performance and the setbacks of injury—insights that deeply inform his approach to care.Tyler is currently writing a book for active adults and athletes who feel stuck in the frustrating cycle of pain, setbacks, and false starts. The book blends science, experience, and practical strategies to help readers better understand their pain, rebuild trust in their bodies, and create lasting progress they can feel proud of.For Tyler, Beyond Pain Physical Therapy is more than just a clinic—it's a space where people's goals, struggles, and stories matter. Whether someone is working through pain, returning to performance, or simply striving to feel strong and capable again, Tyler's mission is to help them get there. For more on Tyler, be sure to follow @tylerkallasy.dpt*SEASON 6 of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast is brought to you by Isophit.
