Wall street closed mixed on Tuesday as the S&P and Nasdaq snapped 3-day losing streaks while the Dow Jones reversed gains to close lower as investors regain appetite for AI-stocks after some profit taking sessions. The Dow Jones fell 0.76% on Tuesday, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq ended the day up 0.39% and 1.26% respectively, driven by Nvidia jumping 6.7%. In recent weeks we have seen investors in the region shift focus from rate-driven sentiment to a bull market driven purely by the AI movement. In Europe overnight markets closed lower amid investor fears of rising geopolitical tensions in the region. The STOXX600 fell 0.3% weighed down by industrial stocks, while Germany's DAX lost 0.81%, the French CAC declined 0.58% and, in the UK, the FTSE100 ended the session down 0.41%. Airbus shares fell 9.4% on Tuesday after the company announced aircraft delivery and earnings target cuts for 2024, while drug maker Novo Nordisk rose 4% after the company's Wegovy weight loss treatment has been approved in China for long-term weight management. Across the Asia markets on Tuesday, China's CSI 300 closed at its lowest level since February despite the rest of the region rallying yesterday. Japan's Nikkei rose 0.95% on Tuesday, Hong Kong's Hang Seng added 0.25% and South Korea's Kospi index ended the day up 0.35% on a clime in consumer confidence in the region. What to watch today:Locally yesterday, the ASX recovered on Tuesday from Monday's sell-off to close the day up 1.36% taking lead from Wall Street rising on Monday and buoyed by a strong rally for the local banks which saw CBA rise to a record high yesterday. Mining giants were also boosted yesterday by a rise in the price of oil which led to the energy sector ending the day up with a strong 2.23% rally.KFC Australia operator Collins Foods jumped over 7.3% yesterday after the restaurant operator released full year results including record revenue and rising earnings in this challenging market. Collins Foods reported revenue rose 10.4% to $1.4889bn, and underlying NPAT rose 15.6% to $60m. Collins also reported net operating cash flow rose $30.2m and net debt was reduced by $46.7m. Investors welcomed the 28cps fully franked final dividend declared by the company which is up from 27cps in FY23.Casino operator Sky City Entertainment Group recovered some of Monday's losses on Tuesday after announcing it has entered into an unconditional agreement to sell its entire shareholding comprising around 10% in Gaming Innovation Group, a European-based online gaming platform provider, for around NZ$55m with proceeds to be used to pay down Sky's debt as part of its capital management review. On the commodities front this morning, oil is trading 1.11% lower at US$80.72/barrel, gold is down 0.53% at US$2318/ounce, and iron ore is down 0.38% at US$106.55/tonne.1 Aussie dollar is buying 66 US cents, 106.15 Japanese Yen, 52.57 British Pence and 1 New Zealand dollar and 9 cents. Today is a big day on the economic calendar locally with the release of Australia's inflation print out this morning with the expectation of a slight uptick to 3.8% from 3.6% in April which if it does come in at this reading, will indicate inflation remains sticky and the RBA has a tough job ahead on a rate front.Ahead of the midweek trading session here in Australia the SPI futures are anticipating the ASX to open the day down 0.37%.Trading Ideas:Bell Potter has slightly increased the 12-month price target on Cleanaway (ASX:CWY) from $3.10 to $3.15 and maintain a buy rating on the leading waste and environmental services company in Australia after the company announced the acquisition of Melbourne-based Citywide Waste which will add three key waste services to Cleanaway's Melbourne Metro operations and a further 1500 C&I customers in metro Melbourne.Trading Central has ident

In this podcast we take a look at the impact of COVID-19 on plastic reduction. Have consumers become more aware of the plastic packaging and the impact on the environment of the products they buy or has the opposite occurred, with a focus on health and hygiene turning their attention elsewhere? Joining us for a lively debate on where the future of plastic reduction is headed are Susan Hansen, Global Strategist, Food Packaging and Logistics, Rabobank, David Jones, CEO & Founder, Just One Ocean, Simon Ellin, CEO, The Recycling Association and Geoff Brighty, Founder & MD, Environmental Sustainability Associates Limited. About our panel Susan Hansen, Global Strategist, Food Packaging and Logistics, Rabobank As the Global Strategist for F&A Supply Chains, Susan Hansen is responsible for developing Rabobank’s global research portfolio and sector expertise related to food packaging and food logistics. Food packaging spans all relevant packaging materials including metal, glass, corrugated paper, folding carton and plastics, while Food logistics mainly covers cold chains and food distribution. Food waste and sustainability are currently hot themes in Susan’s sector research. Susan and her eight-person, globally operating, team is part of the RaboResearch Food&Agribusiness network of close to 90 analysts worldwide. The analysts are experts in various fields; covering the whole food value chain from farmer to retail, as part of Rabobank’s Banking for Food strategy. David Jones, CEO and Founder, Just One Ocean For more than 10 years David Jones, a professional underwater photographer and media specialist, has been raising concerns about the damage we are doing to our oceans, and in particular the effect of single-use plastics. He has worked for a number of production companies including the BBC alongside TV personalities such as David Attenborough, Bear Grylls and Ben Fogle. As diving supervisor, cameraman and executive adviser he worked on the award-winning film,  ‘A Plastic Ocean’, which was 7 years in the making. In 2009 he joined The Plastic Oceans Foundation where he worked as an education, science and sustainability adviser. Four years later he started his own venture Just One Ocean (https://justoneocean.org/) , a registered UK charity, in order to support research and promote awareness of ocean issues. He is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Portsmouth researching the impact of microplastics on the coastal environment and the potential use of citizen science to help resolve the issue. Simon Ellin, CEO, The Recycling Foundation After initially graduating in environmental science and completing a PhD on the effects of various air pollutants on the ecosystem, Simon moved into the recycling arena nearly 30 years ago. Initially cutting his teeth as one of the first local government Waste Disposal  Authority recycling officers, with Staffordshire County Council. Still based in Staffordshire, and married with two daughters, Simon has subsequently held a variety of roles in the recycling industry, spending significant periods as a mill buyer for first Cheshire Recycling (now Palm Recycling), and then Smurfit Kappa. Sandwiched in between was a period working in an operational role for Cleanaway (now Veoila), and in the facilities management sector. Simon joined The Recycling Association in 2009 and is now Chief Executive of both the Recycling Association, and its trading company, IWPP Limited. Simon is very clear on the strategy for the Association over the next few years and lists the balance of supporting members through probably the most difficult trading conditions they have ever experienced whilst retaining compliance and quality as his greatest challenge. Geoff Brighty, Founder and MD, Environmental Sustainability Associates Limited Dr Brighty is a sustainability consultant with a career spanning 30 years in the environmental protection and regulation sector. He is a published research scientist, with a PhD in Fish Reproduction and Aquaculture, and has over 20 publications to his name on environmental pollution issues and flood risk. After leaving his science and chemical regulatory role, in 2004 Geoff moved into the operational-facing part of the Environment Agency.  Here as a Deputy Director-Area Manager, he was responsible for waste, water regulation and flood risk management for an area stretching from Oxford to the East Coast, as well as customer facing work with local MPs and CEOs. After leaving the Agency in 2014, Geoff established his sustainability consultancy (http://www.envsustain.co.uk/) working on environmental issues including flooding, water quality and climate change adaptation for Governments, universities and businesses. He also joined the NGO Plastic Oceans, where he led sustainability, science and policy activities for the release of the Foundation’s film A Plastic Ocean in 2017, and is currently Science Advisor. The miners drove the market today, with Rio Tinto and BHP pushing the ASX 200 up 0.7%, but still well under the 6,000 mark. This market has an itchy trigger finger when it comes to vaccine news and the statement over the weekend from AstraZeneca that it would resume trials was all investors needed to hear. A big hit to Cleanaway with news emerging of a toxic culture with CEO Vik Bhansal being investigated. Clearly, there has been a shift in the market's level of tolerance for behaviour of this kind. Sustainability is at the forefront of Vik’s agenda, he states “there is nothing Cleanaway does every single minute, every day, which does not help the planet”.He explains that he and Cleanaway are at the “pointy edge” of something critical for the human species and shares his belief that a clear national waste and climate policy is needed to help cement sustainability in the minds of all Australian households, an opportunity worthy of pursuit.Vik is concerned that leadership is highly underestimated in today’s society and needs to be encouraged. Vik puts forward the quintessential trait of a leader is humility and that honesty is the best medicine. In a thought provoking discussion, Vik forces us to really think and provides key insights to a philosophy which has allowed him to bring about unprecedented results in what most others felt was a lost cause.
