Hugo speaks with Dan Becker and Hamel Husain, two veterans in the world of data science, machine learning, and AI education. Collectively, they've worked at Google, DataRobot, Airbnb, Github (where Hamel built out the precursor to copilot and more) and they both currently work as independent LLM and Generative AI consultants. Dan and Hamel recently taught a course on fine-tuning large language models that evolved into a full-fledged conference, attracting over 2,000 participants. This experience gave them unique insights into the current state and future of AI education and application. In this episode, we dive into: * The evolution of their course from fine-tuning to a comprehensive AI conference * The unexpected challenges and insights gained from teaching LLMs to data scientists * The current state of AI tooling and accessibility compared to a decade ago * The role of playful experimentation in driving innovation in the field * Thoughts on the economic impact and ROI of generative AI in various industries * The importance of proper evaluation in machine learning projects * Future predictions for AI education and application in the next five years * We also touch on the challenges of using AI tools effectively, the potential for AI in physical world applications, and the need for a more nuanced understanding of AI capabilities in the workplace. During our conversation, Dan mentions an exciting project he's been working on, which we couldn't showcase live due to technical difficulties. However, I've included a link to a video demonstration in the show notes that you won't want to miss. In this demo, Dan showcases his innovative AI-powered 3D modeling tool that allows users to create 3D printable objects simply by describing them in natural language. Sam is a veteran political campaign reporter and former White House correspondent. Youngman covered the presidential campaigns of 2004, 2008 and 2012, countless U.S. House and Senate races, and the administrations of George W. Bush and Barack Obama while working for The Hill, Reuters and other news organizations. A native of Kentucky, Youngman has a BA in journalism from Western Kentucky University and now lives in Los Angeles. Today's Big Stuff is a Monday through Friday newsletter for progressive Americans who want to save their democracy while making fun of people like Donald Trump Jr. and Lauren Boebert who might actually be the same, really dumb person. . Today's Big Stuff (TBS) was founded in early 2019 by “Ready for Hillary” creator and Democratic strategist Adam Parkhomenko and former White House correspondent and veteran campaign reporter Sam Youngman. What started as a small clip service for six people, quickly expanded as thousands of stressed out Americans searched for a news source that tells it how it is — with lots of sick jokes and cuss words. In 2020, the more than 75,000 members of the Big Stuff community — also known as Sexy Patriots and Big Stufferinoes — mobilized along with 81 million other Americans to send Donald Trump crying back to Mar-a-Lago leaving a trail of urine along the way. And we're just getting started. If laughter is the best medicine, then TBS is like an injection of bleach right to the fucking face. The UN CHARTER: A Question of Faith “The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” SAN FRANCISCO -- Our third and final episode of the podcast series “Act of Creation” is ready for your ears. It's a fitting end to a great journey. Episode 1 looks at the years leading up to the famous San Francisco Conference of 1945, when the Charter was signed and the United Nations was born; the episode then moves up to the Conference's opening day on April 24. Episode 2 dives into the Conference itself, showing the intense diplomatic maneuvering as well as the ambitious intentions that were needed to turn the Charter into a reality. Now, in Episode 3, we start on the day the Charter was signed and celebrated, June 26, 1945, and then take listeners decade by decade into the Charter's future. In this episode, Stephen Schlesinger, the American historian and author of the book “Act of Creation: The Founding of the United Nations,” does a stellar job of telling that story, spinning through the decades. We see more examples of international drama and exceptional leadership as well as their opposite. You'll hear the ideas and voices of such figures as Eleanor Roosevelt, Kofi Annan, Harry Truman and Dag Hammarskjold. They weave and bob in the large, deep mental space created by Schlesinger's brilliant point of view, both wickedly intelligent and often surprisingly poignant. Perhaps most movingly for me, and at first unexpected, is hearing the aural unfolding of humanity's profoundest values. The story of the founding of the UN, besides being riveting, entertaining and filled with vivid personalities, parades these values at the only moment in time –arguably-- where the entire world was paying attention: the end of World War II. These values and ideals may seem naïve to some listeners now, but when you hear them echoing loudly from the past, the words by St. Paul in our title may seem stubbornly wise and solidly reasonable. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Our hope is that this final episode provides resonance to these words and demonstrates the persistent power of ideals not yet realized: a clarion call for all of us to get to work. Many thanks to Schlesinger for sharing these tales with such good will and tremendous smarts, and to Dulcie Leimbach, a founder, with Barbara Crossette, of PassBlue and the executive producer of this series, for her insights, encouragement and patience! Two truth warriors fighting the fight every day, it's been my honor and great pleasure to have been able to work alongside them for these last couple years. Thanks to all for listening. We look forward to your feedback: info@passblue.com. DAN BECKER, producer and composer

This is the first part of our three part podcast series about the founding of the United Nations, featuring Stephen Schlesinger, author of the book "Act of Creation." The series was created by Dan Becker, a composer, educator and board member of UNA-USA in San Francisco. It is focused through the prism of the San Francisco Conference, where for two months beginning on April 25, 1945, the UN Charter was hammered out and signed on June 26 1945. It's important to emphasize that this historical story is not only fascinating in its own right, but it's especially relevant to events occurring right now. There are big lessons to learn here, lessons about leadership, about isolationism, and about the power of an educated general public.

On this episode of the podcast, Tayson answers your questions! Be sure to comment below or email us at liveultralightpodcast@gmail.com to hear your questions answered on the next Q&A! Great Outdoor Gear (Support the Podcast): https://bit.ly/3W0x6Rt *** List of Questions: - What happened to the first 65 episodes? (YouTube) - would you do an episode on food? - So I'm just curious if y'all know anyone that started doing ultras after they turned 50. I have never had the luxury to do a through hike but I have been backpacking for about 10 years now I started going UL in 2017 so I could pull 25-40 mile days while section hiking KY's Sheltowee Trace. I also have found that going UL / being a minimalist simplifies the experience making it more enjoyable to me. I don't UL to be able to boast I do it because I'm old and it allows me to cover more mileage and enjoy the experience more. - Wondering if you all use any kind of footprint under your tents, and if so, what do you use? - Would like to hear your thoughts on the difference between 40° or whatever temperature when the sun is out and shining on you and when it's overcast or dark at 40°? I've definitely noticed there is a difference, even though the temperature stays the same. - Are you looking at manufacturing in US if cost is already so high why not at this point…..??? - Any intentions of making a sleeping bag with the same technology? (as the Nova Jackets) - By the way when will you guys be bringing out the rain pants? - Which hoodie performs the best under this raincoat at around 30 to 40°. Dragon wool, tern, or the altitude hoodie? I couldn't imagine wearing the ventus hoodie under this raincoat it's so warm on its own. - What are your thoughts on using in conjunction with the ventus as a layering piece. Is it sized/fitted appropriately for that or would you recommend going up a size? (Vario) - What kind of soap do you launder this jacket in? (Vario) - Do you have the mvtr % of the two different membranes used? (Tushar Rain Jacket) - I'm curious how this would fit a woman (16/17ish torso) when using with the hip belt. I've tried other men's packs and as soon as I do up the hip belt (Since pack rides higher on back and not just hanging from shoulders) the top of the bag sits so high it's hitting the back of my head with every step almost. There's only 1 picture on website of a woman wearing it and she's not using the hip belt to show how high it sits. Can you add more pics of women wearing it in backpacking mode (wearing it with the hip belt fastened)? Or can you make this in a woman's version (shorter torsos)? (KotaUL) - The real question is: What does angry Dan Becker think? (KotaUL) - Which one would pair best with the ventus hoodie for a thru hike of the AT? (Nova Jackets) - Will you consider making a Dyneema version in the future? (Fortius Tent) - I should probably leave this on iTunes, sorry Joe, lol. My big thing/question is which size pack, 45 or 60 L? My newly wed wife and I will be going backpacking very soon and I thought, “Well, we both have big Agnes q-core deluxes, 2 big Agnes sidewinders, a Jetboil minimal Mimo, and 2 NovaUL, and a dog bed along with a Big Agnes Copper Spur UL 2 person because we have a 25 lb Welsh Pembroke corgi (Penny Lane) in tow. After that it would be a Katadyn, 1 each 1 L smart water bottles. 2 Helinox chair zeros, 2 OV pillows… Some extra undies and socks, and maybe the 2 altitude sun hoodies. Plus food… Some one on another channel said, “between the two of you the 45 should be fine”. Now I have the 45 Kota… and doing a test load out… it was full with… maybe(?) 4-5 inches to spare on the top of the inner area. I did not include the Copper Spur, or even separating the pieces of it, and shoot… strapping the Ruffwear dog sleeping bag to it at the time. Oh God… a bear canister or bag… shoot. Sooooo… if the roll top of the 60 goes far enough down to make it a smaller liter carry, and max weight for both the 45 and 60 is 35 lbs max (though I would think(?) the 60 could handle 5(?) lbs more) than maybe my best bet would be for her and I to each get the 60 liter. Plus future trips… longer hikes… more available storage, just in case. This video and other videos you all have published lately made me think hard about this [...] - Those trekking poles look awesome! Design question: what was the deciding factor to go with foam for handgrips instead of cork? - Thoughts about the Garmin Fenix 6 series of watches? I have heard good things, but they are very expensive. Do any of you upload topo maps to your watch for navigation? - Snowshoes? (talking about retail updates for OV) - Hey great podcast. As you hit on the Garmin inreach mini I was wondering if you were going to do a podcast on the new version the inreach mini2? As well gatorz or Oakley always a solid go to for whatever your needs are. #outdoorvitals #liveultralight #backpackinggear #backpacking #ultralightbackpacking

I spoke with Dan Becker. Dan is a Data Scientist that worked for Kaggle from 2017 to 2020. Kaggle is an online community of data scientists and machine learning practitioners that is a subsidiary of Google. During his time at Kaggle, Dan has created a free data science training platform that grew from 3K to 30K monthly active users in its first year. I am one of those users of Kaggle myself, having taken Dan's course. I highly recommend it if you want to get started with ML without getting overwhelmed. Dan has started his own business called Decision.ai in the beginning of 2020. During this conversation, Dan talked about his approach to getting started with Machine Learning which might be counterintuitive to the way most people approach ML initially. Dan described two extreme personas of professionals that work with data science and how they get started in the field. Short Term Sally and Long Term Lee. Listen to this conversation to know how to differentiate yourself as a professional and what is the yellow scarf technique. Full show notes and links: https://SoloCoder.com/43

Is backpacking the same as Disney World? Likely not, but Dan Becker joins the conversation today to talk about what it's like to live in the midwest and travel to Utah to go backpacking. I very much enjoyed having Dan on the podcast and recommend checking out his YouTube channel! - Dan's YouTube Channel: https://bit.ly/2UItTbO Highline Film - Highline follows 5 hikers as they traverse a lesser known mountain range in Utah called the Uinta. Viewers will experience the adventures and challenges along the way. Local archaeologist Tom Flanigan adds another layer of depth to the experience by sharing stories from the past and conveying the importance of this lesser known place. As the story progresses, viewers begin to learn more about the hikers, and why they choose to hike for days, weeks, and even months at a time. Stories of PTSD recovery, addiction recovery, health and family issues are heavy topics in the film. - For more information on Highline: https://highlinefilm.com/ OUTDOOR VITALS: Get your 2.5 oz nylon stretch pillow from Outdoor Vitals here: https://tribe.outdoorvitals.com/pillow This episode is sponsored by Art Of The Trek: Check out Art Of The Trek's new buddy feature here: http://buddies.artofthetrek.com/ The Backpacking Experience Podcast is supported by the Backcountry Exposure YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/backcountryexposure --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thebackpackingexperience/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thebackpackingexperience/support

Dan Becker is leading the pro-life movement toward a new paradigm of pro-life activism. The time has come to call the question. What does it mean to be pro-life in the 21st century? Are we “Standard-bearers,” or are we “King-makers”? Are we the bearer of truth concerning the image of God in man, or are we panderers to political pragmatism? Are we God's servants for those who have no voice, or are we hirelings who serve the needs of the GOP?
