We are back with a packed episode 423 of the Geektown Radio podcast, and Matt from Entertainment Talk joins Dave to chat TV, film, and video game news & reviews!Once again, Matt has brought with him a review of something we don't usually cover on Geektown... Reality TV! This time he has been watching the BBC Three series 'I Kissed A Girl', so gives us his impressions of that. He also discusses catching up with 'X-Men '97', 'Invincible', and (of course) 'Welcome To Wrexham'. Meanwhile, Dave brings two video game reviews - the open-world RPG 'Kingdom Come: Deliverance' and the new factory builder 'Foundry'. He also reviews the new Apple TV+ series 'Dark Matter', and they both discuss the return of 'Doctor Who', now funded by "Disney Dollars."Moving on to the news updates, as we head into "Upfronts" week in the USA, we round up all the renewals and cancellations from the major US networks, along with what shows are still left in the balance. We also talk about a new comicbook adaptation picked up by Syfy, a potential 2nd Season for ‘Shogun', Netflix's wonderfully bonker ‘Exploding Kittens‘, and the final season of ‘Snowpiercer‘ looking like it might actually pull into the station earlier than expected! All entries are due 9/7/2020 and a random winner will be selected. Main Topic For this month, we are discussing a major overhaul of a land at the Magic Kingdom. Many of the lands have slowly evolved and changed, but Tomorrowland had a major change with nearly everything being touched in 1994. Brian & How start us off at Disneyland in 1983 with the expansion of Fantasyland - bringing comparisons to our main topic. All of these major refurbs work towards making the park appealing to a new audience - which is why the funds were sent to the Magic Kingdom and Tomorrowland. We are basing this episode off a major press release which we just acquired. As we work through our initial discussions about Tomorrowland, our FIRST podcast episode is brought up, and I guess way back when we discuss early Tomorrowland - if you are brave and want to hear our early stuff, here you go: Episode One-Planning for Tomorrow. 1994-95 Disney Press Release - New Tomorrowland Featuring... Alien Encounter So we basically learn that in the late 80s and early 90s, Disney learns that you can't build a land that needs to be updated every other year, especially when you call it Tomorrowland. EPCOT ran into this problem a bit and the original Tomorrowland just had so much trouble keeping up with technology. This overview episode of the entire land covers nearly everything from design and lighting to ride updates and add-ons. The signage is discussed, as this was one highlight for some of the guests. We also get into sponsorship changes and how this land impacted each of us, as I'm sure you will pick a side on if you really liked this update or not. At one point in this episode, we discuss The Timekeeper, which we did an entire episode on - click here. The new arcade that was installed right next to Space Mountain was massive. It has many games, prizes, and just a fun, Tomorrowland arcade feel. We hit a bit on the Penny Arcade, which we discuss in Episode 47 of the podcast - check it out. We spend considerable time discussing the infamous Kugel Ball, or germ ball as Todd calls it. These are more common than you think and this one has gone through some changes. It seems like there wasn't a ride or attraction that was left alone and this includes The Carousel of Progress. We go through some of the changes that made this what it is today. Throughout the episode, we have some great sound drops and audio clips. That 90s Tomorrowland background loop makes this one fun to listen to overall. We hope you have fun going back to the mid-90s and we want to know - what is your favorite memory of this 'new' land at Magic Kingdom? Send us a message and tell us! Enjoy! 2020: The Year of Film To make sure you are the first to know when items are released, subscribe to us on YouTube. Be sure to click the notification bell too, that way you are alerted when we post. Finally, be sure to check out Vimeo if that is your thing, as we will post there as well. This week, we journey back to 1982 and take a detailed look in and around Communicore. Tim Sampson joins me for another Hidden Treasure of Walt Disney World, and for this one, we'll stay on Main Street, USA. I announce a new, interactive, and ongoing contest with the help of Eric Hollister that I think you'll enjoy, and one that will benefit the DisneyWorldTrivia.com Dream Team Project. Be sure to stay to the end for your voicemails, so sit back, relax and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show. Because it was my birthday this week I sat around the house and did nothing and loved it! So no new park audio this week, and that means that the 3D audio film festival is "paused" for a week. It'll return for next week's show because I'm heading out to play on Wednesday. So this week I'm continuing my St. Augustine Ripley's Trip with some more messed up goodness. After that I pop back into the wayback machine and head to Episode 9 where I took in ET at Universal Studios. As quick reminder, I've included my ToV language policy that I laid down while wandering towards the Children's and ET area at USF. ;) Congrats to DPN forum listener sbabs for winning the first ever Trapped on Vacation contest that no one even knew was happening! Back in the January 8th show I hid a message in the ID3 tags of the show that said "The first one to read this wins 5 Disney Dollars." It took 6 months, but someone found it! So you might want to read the tags because you never know if you'll find something cool! (Get Info under the File Menu in iTunes) I assure that the ducking and ending at perfect moments in my closing segment was unintentional. I just happened to pause and finish at exact the right times in the song to make it funny, so I left it in as is! (I always pop in the music into GarageBand after I rant so I never know how it's going to sound...) I was going to play the entire song over like I usually do w/o me talking, but the timing was just right so I didn't!
