We dive into my journey of building Triad Partners—the company I co-founded to help independent financial advisors grow their businesses without losing sight of what really matters. We cover everything from transitioning from a sales-driven mindset to a CEO role, to the importance of therapy for high-achieving entrepreneurs, to why business culture will make or break your success. I hope this conversation gives you practical insights and fresh perspectives to help you break free from the hustle trap.3 of the biggest insights from Brad Johnson & Michael Hyatt …#1.) I share the biggest leadership lessons I've learned while growing Triad from the ground up and building a 100-person team in just four years.#3.) In this episode of The Double Win Show, Michael Hyatt and Megan Hyatt Miller sit down with leadership expert Carey Nieuwhof to explore the hidden traps of burnout, cynicism, and the tolls of unexamined motivations. Carey dives into his journey from lawyer to pastor to leadership coach, sharing how he's learned to manage energy and avoid burnout while building an impactful career.Carey's insights touch on the importance of self-leadership, the dangers of “mid-grade burnout,” and strategies for setting lasting boundaries. The conversation is rich with practical advice for leaders in any field who want to achieve the Double Win—winning at work and succeeding at life.Memorable Quotes“I think unexamined motivations drive you until they destroy you.”“Self-leadership is the ability to heal ourselves, to stay engaged, to stay healthy—everything from avoiding burnout and not becoming the person everyone resents to staying engaged at a meaningful level and avoiding cynicism and pride.”“Just look at the internal battle of a leader, how lonely it is, how you often feel you don't have anyone to turn to about the personal demons you're fighting.”“I worked with a lot of lawyers who were really at the top of their game. It was sort of the Wall Street of Canada, right? I realized very early on: Oh, it's empty up here.”“I think you've got to make a decision: I'm going to trust again. I'm going to hope again. I'm going to believe again.”“Cynical people are never curious and curious people are never cynical. They seem to be mutually exclusive.”“That position of feeling numb most days is a big warning sign.”“We're inundated with too many relationships and we're overwhelmed, overworked, overcommitted.”“If you're winning at work and losing at home, you're losing.”Key TakeawaysSelf-Leadership Matters: Carey explains that leading yourself well is the foundation of effective leadership. The Dangers of Mid-Grade Burnout: While many recognize full-blown burnout, Carey highlights the subtler, persistent signs that show up as disengagement or apathy.Prioritize Close Relationships: Carey describes the power of “3–5 deep friendships” that keep us grounded and resilient. The Antidote to Cynicism: When cynicism creeps in, choosing curiosity can help leaders reconnect and stay energized.Boundaries with Purpose: Categorical decisions (like “no breakfast meetings”) can help protect your peak hours and ensure work doesn't consume your personal life.ResourcesDidn't See It Coming by Carey NieuwhofThe Carey Nieuwhof Leadership PodcastWatch on YouTube at: https://youtu.be/lK5NYaZGm3wThis episode was produced by Sarah Vorhees Wendel of VW Sound

Many entrepreneurs and business owners will admit that it's easy to get caught up in sales, numbers, targets, and growth. But at what cost? As you'll hear in this conversation, the sacrifices people make to build a 7, 8, or even 9-figure business can leave their family and loved ones wishing they could enjoy more time with them instead of enjoying the fruits of their labor. Today, we're thrilled to have Michael Hyatt on the podcast. Michael is the Founder and Chairman of Full Focus, which has been featured in the Inc 5000 list of Fastest Growing Companies in America and Inc's Best Workplaces. He's also scaled multiple companies, including a $250 million publishing company with 700+ employees, and has written numerous bestselling books, including Your Best Year Ever, Free to Focus, Win at Work and Succeed at Life, and Mind Your Mindset. In this conversation, we get into what Michael is doing to take a back seat in his business without exiting entirely, how to prioritize the Double Win in life and work, and why your most important purpose hasn't been fulfilled if you're reading this right now. In this podcast interview, you'll learn: How the lessons Michael learned about exits and retirement from his long career in business informed his own transition plan. What happened when Michael had enormous success in business at the cost of his home life–and how he rethought his approach to show up for his family. How Michael has helped clients cultivate a vision for their life after the 40+ hour workweek. The beauty of finding work-life balance–and why purpose is at the heart of it all. Do Business. Do Life. — The Financial Advisor Podcast — DBDL
What's up DBDL Fam! We've got an extra special episode lined up for you today.I was recently asked to guest host on the Front Row Dads podcast. In case you're unfamiliar, Front Row Dads was started by Jon Vroman – it's a membership group and podcast created for fathers who want to level up their Dad game and put family first. As Jon describes it, it's a group for Family Men With Businesses, Not Businessmen With Families. This group has by far had the biggest impact on how I show up for my family – so if anyone's interested in learning more about that group, definitely go check them out. Not only did I get to take over the Front Row Dads podcast for an episode, but I got to decide who I was going to interview. I chose someone who I greatly admire when it comes to both business and family – the one and only, Michael Hyatt, who is a NYT bestselling author and the founder of Full Focus. 3 of the biggest insights from Michael Hyatt … Why you don't have to sacrifice family in order to succeed in business – you can have both! How Michael maps out his schedule, including planning date nights with his 5 daughters. The story of when Michael's wife told him that despite his incredible success, she felt like a single mom – a moment that completely shifted how he shows up as a husband and father. NHRA Texas Funny Car Winner Matt Hagan & Top Fuel Winner Leah Pruett closed out Sunday night with some history for Tony Stewart Racing. It was the first double winning weekend for the team that is only in its second year. Hagan is third in the Funny Car standings with only two events left in the NHRA season. Pruett is second. Both are within two round wins of first place with events in Las Vegas and Pomona still on the calendar. One of the key points in the conversation was the teamwork between the two nitro competitors. And there's also the support of Stewart, Pruett's husband and himself a championship driver and, now, a competitor in Top Alcohol drag racing. Listen...

This week I was excited to welcome back to the show, Michael Hyatt and Megan Hyatt-Miller. Michael Hyatt is the founder and chairman of Full Focus. He has scaled multiple companies, including a $250M publishing company with over 750 employees and his own award-winning goal achievement and coaching company, Full Focus. Through his coaching program for small business owners, BusinessAccelerator®, and the bestselling Full Focus Planner, Michael has helped hundreds of thousands of achievers reach their biggest goals. He is also the author of several New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling books, including Platform, Living Forward, Your Best Year Ever, Free to Focus, The Vision Driven Leader, and Win at Work & Succeed at Life. Michael enjoys The Double Win with his wife of 40+ years, five daughters, and ten grandchildren. Megan Hyatt Miller is the President and Chief Executive Officer at Full Focus and the co-host of the popular Business Accelerator® podcast. As the chief executive of Full Focus, Megan has developed BusinessAccelerator® into the premier coaching program for small business owners, and has grown the Full Focus Planner to sell over 1 million copies. Megan is also Michael's oldest daughter. In their highly anticipated book, Mind Your Mindset: The Science That Shows Success Starts with Your Thinking (Baker Books, January 2023), New York Times bestselling author Michael Hyatt and Megan Hyatt Miller teach readers how to save themselves needless frustration and headache from trying to solve problems with strategies that no longer work. "Rather than thinking about what we're doing," they say, "we need to think about our thinking." Mind Your Mindset draws upon the latest Insights in performance psychology, neuroscience, and cognitive science, as well as case studies from Michael and Megan's own clients. Michael and Megan explore the power of our stories--stories about the problems we face-and how those narratives determine our strategy and, with it, our results They show how these stories are anchored in assumptions about the past, form our predictions of the future, and stem from the way our brain makes sense of the wild array of information it encounters every day. Rather than take those stories at face value, readers can change their stories, rewire their brain for better thinking, and develop new and better strategies. Mind Your Mindset offers three simple, proven steps to do just that and attain extraordinary results: 1. Identify the problem and the story surrounding it 2. Interrogate the story 3. Imagine something that works better These practices help readers cut through the fog of false narratives and offer clear, creative solutions for achieving their goals "Mind Your Mindset is your invitation to step boldly into a new and better way of thinking and living," write Michael and Megan. "Unsettling as it may be, uncertainty is not the enemy; it points not to chaos but to possibility. To have the confidence to engage the world and reshape our stories as needed is a far more valuable and reassuring asset than is certainty."
