Today, I wanted to chat with you about something that I know many of us struggle with - imposter syndrome.ARE YOU FEELING LIKE YOU'RE JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH?I've definitely struggled with this during my career. It's that awful feeling of self-doubt and inadequacy that creeps up on you when you're trying to achieve something new or step outside of your comfort zone. You might feel like you either don't deserve the opportunity or success you've achieved or that someone is going to find out that you're not as good as they think you are.IT'S A PART OF THE ENTREPRENEUR'S JOURNEYEntrepreneurs face imposter syndrome no matter where they are in their business journey. We're always pushing ourselves to create, take risks, build something new, and stand out. It's so easy to feel like we're not good enough, not qualified or not experienced enough to do all of that.YOU ARE NOT ALONENow I want to remind you, you are not alone in this feeling and it absolutely doesn't mean that you're not capable of achieving your goals. In fact, imposter syndrome can actually be a sign that you're doing something right. It means that you're pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and trying new things – as long as you're not letting it stop you in your tracks.REFRAME YOUR THINKINGI'll take you through a simple mindset shift that I have used to help reframe my feelings surrounding imposter syndrome to start taking advantage of every opportunity and make those leaps forward.Remember, imposter syndrome is only a feeling and not your reality. Don't let it hold you back from achieving your dreams and creating something amazing. Keep pushing yourself, learning, and growing.IT'S TIME TO ELEVATE!I'm also sharing some very exciting news about the new Elevate Business Retreat coming up! My guest today is Sara Jade, owner and founder of SJ&Co, a boutique hair salon in Northcote, Melbourne. Having been in business for 15 years, Sara Jade has so much insight and wisdom when it comes to business. She has taken her salon to the next level by reimagining, simplifying, downsizing and getting really clear on what she wants. LETTING GO OF HER EGO TO MAXIMISE HER HAPPINESSAt the peak of her business, SJ&Co had 14 staff but Sara Jade was constantly drowning in debt from paying wages and the cost of product wastage. With the help of a business coach, Sara Jade stepped back to analyse her business and realised that the biggest thing to let go of was her ego. Once she let go of the need to prove that she was successful, Sara Jade was able to completely simplify her business down to two staff, putting her back on the tools and doing what she loves most. By taking away everything that wasn't working, what remains now for Sara Jade is a thriving, simplified business and life. A REMINDER OF CONNECTION OVER PERFECTIONNot only is she my hairdresser, but Sara Jade is also a member of the Modern Marketing Collective. Sara shares how diligently working through the modules gave her the confidence to back herself and focus on connection with her clients instead of trying to do everything she thought she had to do. INTENTIONAL DECISIONS AND TAKING RISKSA hair salon is quite a traditional business, so when Sara Jade decided to replace the receptionist role with her own app, it came as a surprise to a few customers. But, Sara Jade knew that the most important thing was to serve her ideal clients in the best possible way. A lot of Sara Jade's clientele are busy CEOs and CFOs so she opened her books to accommodate early morning appointments and made booking simple. She also created an account with two local cafes so clients can pre-order a coffee instead of her having to spend precious time in the kitchen. Another huge change Sara Jade made to her business was removing apprentices and focusing on colours and no longer prioritising cuts. These creative changes were risky for the industry, but this iteration of the salon has not only simplified Sara Jade's life but also enables her to provide an amazing service to her clientele. YOUR BUSINESS ISN'T FOR EVERYONE…AND THAT'S OKAY!If you're a business owner and thinking about downsizing or simplifying your business, you might have some fears or concerns around how to go about it. And perhaps you're wondering if people would respond well to the changes that you make. The truth is, your business isn't for everyone and that's okay! One thing Sarah Jade has done so well is understanding what works best for her and implementing some really creative and somewhat drastic changes to her business to make it work. When you service your people, you attract more of your people and that's how you build your brand. Today I'm joined by Tanya Castellino, the founder of Life's Little Celebrations and member of The Modern Marketing Collective. Her business has promoted and supported kids' event vendors for the past 12 years and during this time, she has launched the Celebrate Society Membership for Kids Party Suppliers, the Celebrate Conference, and a magazine called Celebrating Little Ones.SHE LAUNCHED A MAGAZINE? TELL ME MORE!Celebrating Little Ones is a FREE online magazine that brings together the best party vendors, party products, real party features, interviews and more for kids' parties. This is THE kid's party magazine in Australia, solely focusing on children's celebrations. WHAT DOES A MEMBERSHIP FOR KIDS' PARTY VENDORS INCLUDE?Life's Little Celebrations offers membership and network for vendors in the kids' party industry and small business owners who provide products or services for kids' celebrations and offer them amazing support and a really connected network. Tanya has had her business featured in publications such as Donna Hay Magazine and The Practical Parenting Magazine, and she's also been chosen as a judge for the Party Stylist of the Year Awards.TANYA'S JOURNEYWe chat about what it's like running a membership, how she manages that one, what's involved, and how her business has evolved over the years from starting as a blog to the online resources and now, as the membership, the conference and the magazine. We also discuss how Tanya has made this work as she has raised her four young children, the challenges that she's had along the way, her advice to others that are looking to build their own successful businesses and what's next for her. BALANCING RUNNING A BUSINESS AND MOTHERHOODTanya is a mother of four and lives in Sydney. Tanya previously worked in human resource management and secondary teaching before becoming a mum and delving into the much more exciting world of kids' events. Being a mother and an entrepreneur can be both rewarding and extremely challenging. Finding the right balance between these two roles can sometimes feel like a juggling act and Tanya shares with us how she has built such an incredible business with the support of her family. She set realistic expectations for herself and her business and understood that you can't do everything all at once and it's okay to ask for help. There may be times when you have to prioritise one role over the other and that's when Mum Guilt will often rear its head but if you chat to your kids about why you're busy running your business you can instil in them amazing values and inspiration of running their own business one day. REMEMBER TO BE PRESENTI learned so much from this conversation with Tanya. Try to remember how precious our time is. If you're with your family or working in your business, try to be fully present and engaged. I know it's easy to feel guilty that you're not working full time in your business and answering every email immediately, or not spending every evening with your children but you're only one person and you're doing an incredible job so give yourself a break! I have something a little bit different for you this week where I swapped seats and was the guest on the Heart-Centred Business Podcast with host Tash Corbin. Tash is amazing and a friend of mine. I met her a few years ago at Denise Duffield Thomas's first ever Rose Farm retreat, and I just have so much respect for her. Tash is a marketing and business growth specialist, and she's also one of our members in The Modern Marketing Collective.INSTAGRAM: A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR BUSINESSSocial media has revolutionised the way businesses connect with their customers, and Instagram has emerged as a powerhouse platform for brands to showcase their products, services, engage with their audience, make connections and generate sales. Instagram is such a valuable platform for businesses to grow their presence and achieve their marketing goals. Listen in as I discuss with Tash how the value Instagram can offer business owners and share my own strategies to improve connection, promotion, engagement and sales. AVOID COMMON MISTAKESHowever, like any social media platform, there is the risk of comparisonitis, trying to copy strategies, following brand ideas that don't resonate with you, or feeling pressure to post huge amounts of content. I'll take you through how you can gain traction with only a handful of posts and use the algorithms to your advantage. CONTENT CONTENT CONTENTFocus your posts on four types of key content: connection, credibility, value and promotion. What is your audience going to get out of your content? What can you do to delight or inspire them with your own unique knowledge, advice and experience? You'll set your business up with a fabulous following if you address these key types of content. LEVERAGING AND SCALABILITYI share my own journey from where I started doing a whole mixture of things like copywriting, contracts, and strategy sessions before changing my business model to one that works for me. I talk about my own journey scaling my business so I could create space and time in my life with a business that worked around my own needs and goals. BUSINESS TAKING THE BACKSEATTash and I talk about how the birth of my newborn son impacted how I run my business. I needed to give myself headspace and time. I'm keeping myself flexible and adaptable by working out how to shrink and expand different parts of the pie depending on what's going on in life and what's going on in the business. We explore how Tash's health journey led her to needing eight months away from her business and doing the bare minimum. She shares how she kept her business running during that hectic time and how she has built herself back up again. As a business owner, you may feel guilty about taking a step back from your business, whether it's for personal reasons, health concerns, or simply needing a break. You may worry that you're letting your business and your team down or that it reflects poorly on your abilities as a leader. But here's the truth: taking care of yourself is not only essential for your well-being but also for the success of your business. Taking a step back from your business can actually be beneficial in the long run. It allows you to recharge, gain fresh perspectives, and come back with renewed energy and creativity. It can also help you delegate tasks to your team, foster their growth and development, and build a more resilient and sustainable business. Remember, you're not solely defined by your business. Give yourself grace and permission to take a step back when needed without feeling guilty. In life, you have to focus on what feels good for YOU. Don't be tempted to compare yourself to others. When you run a business, you're so privileged to be able to build a business in a way that suits your goals and life and when you need to take a step back, you can decide how that will look and how and when you'll return.HEART-CENTRED BUSINESS CONFERENCE 2023I'm speaking at the Heart-Centred Business Conference on the 18th to 21st May at Peppers in Noosa, Australia. What we believe about ourselves and our potential to earn profit is important, and more often than not translates straight to our bottom line. While it can be challenging to change up the patterns we've always lived with, viewing money from a positive mindset is a skill that anyone can learn. It's never too late to make a change and begin creating profit with intention and the belief that good things are coming your way. WELCOME CLARE WOODToday I chat with Clare Wood, qualified accountant turned money mentor and first-time author. Clare helps business owners to massively scale their profits through the power of money management and the concepts of money mindset. She teaches that our beliefs and past experiences with money ultimately affect how we act in business, and in her book Intentional Profit, Clare aims to inspire people to master their mindset for a wildly wealthy business. In our conversation, Clare defines intentional profit and shares some of the money mindset challenges that she continues to experience in her own life. She shares how she continues to work through them, and her thoughts around building a business that will continue to grow month upon month, and year by year. DREAMING BIGDespite creating some amazing successes in her business, Clare has never seen herself as someone extraordinary. She's just someone who had a big dream and decided to chase it. Sharing the journey that brought her dreams into reality, Clare encourages us to take inspired and aligned actions to move us closer to the things we want. MONEY MINDSETTen years ago, Clare's life looked completely different. She was far from achieving the goals she had in mind, and didn't even know what money mindset was. However, through educating herself and learning the skills required to shift her thinking, Clare started to see her dreams become a reality. She reminds us that we can start to create the life that we want when we believe positive things are coming for us, and take action to make change happen. LEANING INTO INTENTIONAL PROFITWhen it comes to investing, there are no guarantees that things will work out. There can be a lot of fear around taking a risk. Having experienced many disappointments in her own business journey, Claire now sees losses as catalysts for learning and growth. She discusses how reframing failure as part of success will cause us to lean into creating profit with intention and confidence. Clare believes in pushing through the discomfort, knowing that what's on the other side is potentially even bigger and better than expected. The path to success and achieving your dreams is not linear, and every business experiences cycles of loss and gain. However, Clare knows from her own experience that changing our learned, problematic patterns around money will set us free from our fear of failure and release us into our potential. There's power in doing money mindset work, and I know that Clare's wisdom will inspire you to step out and implement the strategies that will create the business and the life you've been dreaming of.LINKS: Clare's book: Intentional ProfitWhere to find Clare Wood: Website: https://clarewood.com Instagram: @clare_wood_coachFacebook: @clarewoodcoachLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/clarewoodcoach/ Join The Modern Marketing Collective to get booked out with clients: emilyosmond.com/collectiveDiscover your Marketing Personality Type in my free quiz, plus the specific resources to maximise your specific superpower! www.emilyosmond.com/superpowerFree Online Class: The 3 steps to turn your followers into clientsWebsite: https://emilyosmond.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/emilyosmond/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/emilyclareosmond
In today's episode, I'm joined by the amazing Emily Osmond who will be talking about business by design! Emily is an international business coach, top-ranking podcast host (with listeners in more than 100 countries), and founder of the flagship membership, The Modern Marketing Collective, where she has helped almost 1,000 entrepreneurs to grow their dream business online. This brilliant episode ended up taking a bit of a turn... We started off talking about Instagram, why it's so valuable, some strategies to think of, and some common mistakes that people make... And then we ended up having a bigger conversation about building a business that aligns with your goals and your lifestyle, how to deal with some of the guilt and comparison-itis that comes when you need to take some time off from your business or you're not as focused on your business as you might normally be, and shaping your business model to work to your strengths, what you want to achieve, and what your goals for your lifestyle are (not just your financial goals). I think you'll find this episode really valuable. There were some vulnerable moments and there were some really honest shares from both of us. Emily will also be one of our incredible speakers at the 2023 Heart-Centred Business Conference! As an extra bonus with this episode, you can get $50 off your ticket to Conference. Leaving your 9 to 5 to pursue a creative dream full-time may sound a little out there. Some people may even call it crazy. But when you know what you want and you know what you're good at, it can work. All you need is a little faith. WELCOME TRISH BURTONToday I sit down with Trish Burton, who courageously walked away from her job as a school teacher to follow her passion for making art. Trish is now a Melbourne-based artist, designer and art educator with a dedication to inspiring creativity in others and creating works that evoke personal connections. In our conversation, we discuss the rigidity that came with school teaching and how it no longer worked for Trish. She wanted freedom and knew she could get more out of life. This realisation led her to take the leap of faith into creating a life she really wanted and starting her own creative business. NICHING DOWN TO FOLLOW YOUR PASSIONWhile Trish found stability and grew her business through corporate graphic design, she eventually made the decision to let go and pursue the work she was truly passionate about. Trish shares how she turned her world upside down to niche down on illustration, and we discuss how putting out what you really love into the world will bring the work to you.GETTING RID OF NEGATIVE SELF-TALKTrish is an optimist, with a wonderful mindset and strong self-belief. However, her self-talk wasn't always positive, and Trish discusses how reframing things and recognising the wins along the way changed how she saw herself and her work. She's learnt how to be okay with failure and how to show up in confidence in the face of it. LEARN BY DOINGThere's no ‘right' way to do business, and sometimes you just have to get stuck in and figure things out along the way. Trish talks about learning from the mistakes as well as the successes, and how feedback can be a catalyst for improvement. We discuss throwing yourself in the ring and how it often has a greater impact than observing from afar. Pursuing a creative passion can feel like chasing a pipe dream. But with the right mindset, strategy and a healthy dose of self-belief, it really is possible. Trish leads by example with her amazing positivity, humour and zest for life. Never taking herself too seriously, Trish shares such valuable insight into growing a business and finding the time to laugh along the way. Leaving a full-time job to start your own business is a huge decision that is both exciting and terrifying at the same time. It takes so much courage to take that leap of faith and pursue your entrepreneurial dreams but it can be so rewarding and fulfilling. WELCOME CASS AGGETTIn this episode, I'm chatting with Cass Aggett who bravely made this leap and started her own web design business after a career as a public servant. Cass helps female founders of health and wellness businesses to showcase the expertise through a strategic website and aligned branding. In this conversation we discuss how Cass has evolved her business over time, where she started, the types of offerings that she started out with, and how these have evolved and grown. Cass shares the decisions made behind choosing where to place her focus, as well as finding her ideal client. NICHING DOWN TO FIND YOUR IDEAL CLIENTSThrough a fluke, early on in her business Cass found that she was working largely with clients in the health and wellness industry and found that she absolutely loved it. She explores how she managed to niche down heavily into this specific industry and was able to then attract more of her ideal clients. TAKING THE LEAP TO WORK IN YOUR BUSINESS FULL TIMECass also shares what that process has looked like from leaving her public service role to working full time in her business. She discusses the strategies and the planning around her schedule that she's implemented to help her really set herself up to be productive, flexible and happy in her own business.PROGRESS OVER PERFECTIONCass is a serial perfectionist and had to learn that progress is far better than perfection. She advises us to spend our time effectively and get our offerings out there to the world and then we can refine them if needed. Finding the courage to leave your full-time job and start your own business is not an easy task, but it can be one of the most rewarding things you can do. I absolutely loved listening to Cass' experience and advice. She generously gives us her biggest tips for growing a business so make sure you tune in and listen carefully! Do you have an overly complicated website with multiple offerings? Do you feel pressured to have so many programs, courses and services listed just to keep up with the competition? There are so many parts of running a business that can be challenging, but some of the most common complaints I hear are when business owners feel like they're drowning in offerings, using pushy sales methods, and completely lost on how to plan for the future. It's so important to make sure you're selling your product or service in a way that feels authentic and in alignment with you and your brand, while also making it super easy for potential clients to understand and engage with what you have to offer. LET'S TAKE A CLOSER LOOK WITH A CASE STUDYToday's episode is a case study exploring how Michelle Johns has created a simple business that fits in around her life. Michelle is a leadership coach who supports women to become confident and empowered to successfully lead a team for the first time through a mix of coaching, training and mentoring. INTRODUCING MICHELLE JOHNSMichelle has more than 20 years of experience as a leader in the corporate world and has an extensive background in change management, qualifications in organisational psychology and leadership, and is passionate about bringing more feminine energy into the boardroom. I've been working with Michelle in The Modern Marketing Collective and on my retreats and I'm absolutely thrilled to be bringing all of her sage advice and experience to you today to help you simplify your business, structure your offers and find the best way of selling that feels good for you. THE NITTY GRITTYMichelle takes us through how she structures her program, private coaching, group mentoring sessions, and networking. Michelle explains what brings many of her clients to her business. Quite often it comes down to the environment they're working in, many in male dominated industries, and they're not being heard. Michelle will work together with them to find different strategies to manage those situations. SIMPLIFY YOUR BUSINESS I know that the process of simplifying a business is not always easy. You'll need to let go of non-essential products or services and rethink your marketing and sales strategies to better reflect your vision. You may also need to shift your mindset, as many business owners feel huge pressure to constantly add more features, products, or services in order to keep up with the competition.Michelle takes us through how she simplified her program structure, her overcomplicated website, and her offerings into a much simpler way of doing business and she feels far lighter now. She takes us through her marketing, lead magnets, experimenting, building credibility, and how she makes her business work around everything she enjoys in life. I recommend focusing on what truly matters to your ideal client and what fills you up with light and passion. By simplifying your business, you can create a much better customer experience for everyone involved and sell your products in your own way without feeling pushy or salesy. Listen in to hear Michelle's journey and how she has built a business she absolutely loves through simplifying, selling her way and using strategic focus to plan for the future. Small business owners often have to wear many hats and juggle so many responsibilities in order to keep their company running smoothly. While we know this can be rewarding, it can also be incredibly overwhelming, especially when trying to balance the day-to-day, time sucking operations with long-term growth, launches and sales strategies.CUE THE ONLINE BUSINESS MANAGERThis is where an online business manager can come in. An online business manager, or OBM, is a professional who works remotely to help manage the daily operations of a small business. OBMs can take on a wide range of tasks, from project management and delegation to financial planning and marketing. They act as a bridge between the business owner and the team and contractors working on the business, ensuring that everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goals.INTRODUCING MY ONLINE BUSINESS MANAGER - CAT DUNNCat Dunn is my online business manager and I actually found her in The Modern Marketing Collective! Cat has spent 14 years across admin, marketing, and communications before starting her own business in 2022. Cat originally began as a virtual assistant before quickly moving into online business management where she is passionate about working with female coaches to help scale their businesses, make more money and impact more lives.Cat describes the difference between a VA and an OBM as the OBM is the architect and the VA is the builder. They work alongside each other and the rest of your team to ensure that everything runs smoothly and you have the space you need to create. DECIDING WHEN TO HIRESo, how do you know if hiring an OBM is right for your small business? Here are a few signs to look out for:You're feeling overwhelmed - If you're struggling to keep up with the demands of running your business, it may be time to bring on some additional support. You're not making progress towards your goals - If you're feeling stuck or like your business isn't growing as quickly as you'd like, an OBM can help you create a roadmap and keep your team on track. You're spending too much time on administrative tasks - As a business owner, your time is valuable. If you're spending too much of it on administrative tasks, an OBM can take those tasks off your plate and free you up to focus on more strategic activities.IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THE RIGHT PERSON AND THE RIGHT FITOnce you've determined that hiring an OBM is the right move for your business, Cat takes us through how to find the right person for the job. Here are a few tips:Look for someone with experience - OBMs come from a variety of backgrounds, but ideally, you want to find someone with experience in your industry or a related field.Check their references - Make sure to speak with past clients and colleagues to get a sense of the candidate's work style and reliability.Set clear expectations - It's important to have a clear understanding of what you expect from your OBM and to communicate those expectations clearly from the outset.Start small - Consider starting with a small project or trial period to make sure the OBM is a good fit before committing to a longer-term contract.HOW TO BE A DREAM CLIENTCat shares her top tips on how to be a dream client for your OBM to ensure they can be effective and efficient in their role. You need to work together as a team, trust your OBM and provide the framework so you can build a truly rewarding relationship that allows you to focus and grow your business for years to come. Cat only works with clients where she feels she can care about their business as much as they do so I encourage you to find an OBM that truly cares and is passionate about what you do. Hiring an OBM can be a great way to take your small business to the next level. By delegating tasks and streamlining operations, you can free up more time to focus on growing your business and achieving your goals.LINKS: Where to find Cat Dunn: Website: https://msha.ke/itscatdunn.obmFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/itscatdunn.obm/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itscatdunn.obm/Join The Modern Marketing Collective to get booked out with clients: emilyosmond.com/collectiveDiscover your Marketing Personality Type in my free quiz, plus the specific resources to maximise your specific superpower! www.emilyosmond.com/superpowerFree Online Class: The 3 steps to turn your followers into clientsWebsite: https://emilyosmond.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/emilyosmond/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/emilyclareosmond
INTRODUCING EMMA MASLENToday on the show I'm chatting with the courageous Emma Maslen from Rescue My Resume. Emma helps professional women to achieve their next dream job through amazing, confidence boosting resumes and coaching to nail that dreaded job interview. WHERE IT STARTEDEmma started her business 5 years ago and would meet with her clients on a one-on-one capacity in cafes to write their resumes. Then covid hit and she had to change her business structure to move her packages online. She developed her website and packages over time and ended up with an extensive website that wasn't intuitive and clients had to go to multiple pages to find out what she actually offered. So she had to stop and reflect on what she actually liked working on the most, which was interview coaching. She simplified her packages and now includes everything from resume writing to LinkedIn profiles as well as interview coaching in an easy to find program that helps professional women walk into the interview room feeling confident, upbeat and positive. PRICING EVOLVES OVER TIMEEmma definitely experienced imposter syndrome in the beginning of her business. But over time she found confidence in her skills, knowledge and experience and felt empowered. The demand increased for her services and she was working around the clock so she started to regularly increase her prices and has built a powerful business structure that suits her, her family and the life she wants to create. REACH FURTHEREmma was mainly operating through a word-of-mouth marketing structure and then she found The Modern Marketing Collective which helped her market her business to a much greater audience and discover her passion for posting regularly on LinkedIn and using video marketing. She now has a great following and loves posting a mixture of educational posts, testimonials and sales posts in a very organic and authentic way. YOU CAN SAY “NO”Throughout Emma's business journey she's learned that sometimes working with a particular kind of client will not be worth the money. She's in a much better mental state if she doesn't have to deal with the stress of turning around and working with someone who is incredibly demanding. It's important to be discerning and find your ideal client to have a positive, successful and rewarding partnership throughout your business relationship. I loved listening to Emma's journey. If you're looking to improve your resume and interviewing skills, you can work with her in her online Not Just a Resume Template program, or 1:1 via her Resume Rescue, Next Level Career and Job Interview Coaching packages. I encourage you to learn from her triumphs and challenges, marketing strategies, how she maps content, her advice and the experience that has come from running a very successful business for over five years. Welcome to today's episode, which I know you're going to love - you'll never have to scratch around for content ideas again!I know that as a business owner, content is often something you feel you should be doing better at, but there is always something demanding your attention isn't there? So it gets pushed further and further down the pile. And what happens for a lot of business owners is that they tend to just push out snack content - a quote or a quick little video. But that snackable content doesn't do the same thing as long content - it won't help you get found and it certainly doesn't drive your audience to take action.Content that helps drive search engine optimisation (SEO), that serves your audience and shows them you can really help solve their problem is what I like to call meal content. It doesn't take long to map out what this longer-form content should look like. In this episode, I provide you with the questions you need to ask to work out your content themes and determine your key messages. Doing this will help you meet your customers where they're at, and move them to where they want to be. This is what helped attract people to come and work with me and it got me to making six and multi-six figures.I share three simple activities that will help you come up with content ideas for your business:Conversations with your customersDo not feel as though you have to reinvent the wheelHeadline miningThese are three different ways that are really simple for you to continuously find different ideas to create really valuable, longer-form content in your business. The kind of content that showcases your expertise, shows your audience that you understand them and demonstrates you have the solutions that will help. This is content that has longevity - people can search it and it helps build your portfolio of knowledge and expertise. When someone comes across you, they can dive into that and very quickly receive a lot of value. It shows that you understand that you can help them and helps them want to take the next step of working with you.So - without further ado, go you good thing! Do you find yourself constantly waiting for the circumstance to be just right before you start taking action? Are you waiting for all of your ducks to be in a row before you get started? This is part of the Perfectionist Mindset and something that I have struggled with for years. In fact, waiting for the perfect time to start held me back in my business for over 9 months. I recently shared my business journey and the struggles I had with perfectionism on another podcast, the incredible Emily Osmond interviewed me on her podcast. You can listen to it here - Re-examining Perfectionism in Business with Kiara Johnson In today's episode, I walk you through some exercises to help you if you are caught up in constantly waiting for everything to be perfect before you get started. It's easy for someone to give you the advice of "don't wait for things to be perfect before you get started", but it takes a mindset shift in order to actually live by this. In this episode, I interview Emily Osmond, an international marketing coach, speaker, and podcast host. She is the founder and editor of Australian interiors blog GetinMyHome. Her podcast, The Emily Osmond Show, shares practical strategies and candid real stories of entrepreneurs to help other entrepreneurs make marketing, mindset, and money their superpowers. Aged 27, she left the marketing world in corporate five and half years ago to start a consulting business focusing on branding, strategy, and website design. She had the idea to try providing online courses and hasn’t looked back. She launched her first course within a few weeks of having the idea back in mid-2018. She now has 500+ students in more than 10 countries and banked $40,000 in the first year of selling the courses. In 2019, she grew that to $200,000 compared to the $100,000 she made in her first year of providing consultancy services. The courses have grown 214% in the last six months since April 2020. She has one and half full-time employees, has funded the business purely from savings, and spent $60,000 on professional development in the last five years. Emily has worked hard on pricing and her mindset to be able to shift to then succeed with online courses. She felt she had succeeded when early in 2020 she checked the Stripe bank account and was able to reduce her work hours. Emily believes the hardest thing about growing a small business is, “Mindset, backing yourself, knowing there is no manual, and trusting yourself” The one thing she says she would tell herself on day one of starting out in business is, “You can if you think you can” Stay tuned and enjoy! This Cast Covers: Starting out a service-based business and later shifting the business model to run on her online programs. Building a business out of her passion for running workshops and teaching business owners how they can do their own marketing. From $100,000 a year in revenue to $200,000 a year solely from the online programs with four additional income streams. Working with a team of skilled professionals on a part-time basis to boost the profits of the business. The lessons she learned from the challenges she went through with pricing. Working predominantly with women who run home-based businesses that are in their first 3 years of operation. Using a combination of content marketing, Facebook ads, and podcasting to market her business and build her audience. What the Emily Osmond Show is all about and where it’s currently at. Maintaining a 6 to 10% churn rate for her online programs by studying exactly what causes people to exit and coming up with ways to solve the highlighted issues. Currently having 400 students paying every month with over 600 students having gone through her programs. The immense benefits of using Kajabi to sell her online programs. How to upload your customers’ email addresses into Facebook and use that to figure out your target audience. Starting the business with her own cash and growing it from profits. Being trapped in the mindset of what other people were doing successfully and how she got out of it to just do her own thing. The power of mindset and boundaries when running an online business. Having to make decisions in the business and the pressures that come with it. Overcoming the belief that she was not good at numbers to figure out all the numbers related aspects of her business. Hiring people who free up her time so she can focus on her core business activities. Achieving work-life balance by specifically building her business to allow her to have a low number of working hours. Uplevelling her skills and building lots of great relationships from spending $60,000+ on her personal development. Working less in the business by setting up systems and trusting others to run things. And my favourite part is that you wouldn't tell it to look at her.In fact, I'll raise the visual assumptions. Because here I am, a bearded, motorcycle riding, stupid hat-wearing, tattooed bald man, interviewing this fresh, blonde-haired, bubbly white girl who radiated vanilla and sunshine, and I feel like we could've talked for hours.Because Emily is people like us.She's been through periods of not feeling good enough, of not fitting in. Has been through some dark shit that she's had to shut down, smile and pretend like everything is fine. But then she made a choice, to not continue to live like that. Now she is purpose-driven. She cherishes giving, facing fears, vulnerability, and connection.Connection to each other as humans. Because we're all experiencing some kind of battle, and it's ok to ask for help. There are so many takeaways in this episode.
