Scripture: Exodus 20:1-2 What are the Ten Words? We read in Exodus 20:1, “And God spoke all these words.” “Words is referring to the Ten Commandments God spoke on Mount Sinai to Moses. God's Ten Commandments are found in the rest of Exodus 20 and also in Deuteronomy 5. Because these commandments are unnumbered in the Bible, there have been several ways these 10 Words have been numbered, but it doesn't matter how you number them - what matters is whether you listen to them or not. Exodus 20:2 God continues, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.”  He is saying He's the Israelite's Deliverer from bondage in Eqypt.  We can also see this truth throughout Scripture as well when God promised to send a Savior and then sent the Messiah, Jesus Christ to Deliver His people from the bondage of sin.   Deliverance - God is the One who saves and all commandments flow from this statement of God's deliverance for His children. It's not that we are saved by obeying the commands. It is God who saves us.  He is the Deliverer but in response to His work we desire to do what His 10 Words teach. We cannot earn His favor, rather it's God that has shown us His favor by being our Deliverer.  Deliverance is at the heart of all 10 Words. Two dangers around the Ten Words:     ⁃    Pride.  Thinking we have been good, or at least better than others. Or that we can earn God's favor, but we ALL have sinned which means we all need to be rescued. We need a Savior because we cannot measure up to a holy God. (We are not measured against others, the measure is against a perfect, holy God and we all have failed) Only Jesus has obeyed the Father fully. Only Jesus lived the perfect life we could not. Only Jesus the perfect Lamb could shed His blood for our sin and save us.     ⁃    Rebellion. Some of us refuse to believe there is a god. Others do what they think is “good.” Others may even question is there really good and bad and choose to ignore anything or anyone that says differently. The religious also rebel in thinking that “if God loves me and Jesus came to die for me, than I'm saved by His grace through faith so sin is not that big of a thing - I can do what I please, it doesn't really matter because I'm saved.” But this too is deception and it is rebelling against the plan and purpose of God. What is the purpose of the Ten Commandments for those who know God and trust in Jesus?  What about the unbeliever, how do these commandments speak into their lives. God desires to call us ALL to the truth, to deliver us all from bondage to rebellion and foolishness and pride. His desire is to have us come face to face with Him and His love for each one of us. Consider God's commandments as an Owner's Manual, like an owner's manual for your car. The car's maker tells the best ways to care for the vehicle. The Ten Commandments are God's Owner's Manual for His people. This “manual” shows us how to care for what our Maker made, how to live well, how to live as a thank You note to God. Understanding God as our Deliverer, through faith in our Savior, changes how we look at the Commandments. Rather than a list of “dos” and “don'ts” we see them as God's way of showing us how to have a meaningful life for all and to help us create a meaningful culture for all. Our Maker knows what's best for us.  His words give direction and purpose for our lives. How does God use the Ten Commandments?     1.    As a CURB - to keep us on the right path.     2.    As a MIRROR - to show us our faults. As a mirror we see how we need a Savior, especially in a culture that is so far off the narrow path.     3.    As a GUIDE - for Him to lovingly direct His will over our sinful nature. The Ten Commandments are a response to God's deliverance and we can look at them as the Owner's Manual spoken by our Maker. Today Pastor Todd is finishing up a series called "So can You". This has been a series drawn from lives of some relatively ordinary people in the Old Testament who God called to carry out His purposes. Each is unique in their own circumstances but we can all find a bit of ourselves in these people. Pastor Todd says "The Old Testament is a physical representation of New Testament spiritual realities." So these people God has called represent spiritual realities that we can learn from so that our lives may also represent the spiritual realities of God's Kingdom. Today's message focuses on people of God mentioned in Hebrews 11 who walked out their calling in faith as those who understood that his calling was a physical representation of the work of the Messiah who was coming. Moses didn't know that it would be 1400 years later. However, the book of Hebrews tells us that he did not identify himself with the Egyptians but "considering the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasuries of Eqypt, he was looking to the reward." Heb 11:26. Jesus, Himself, tells us in John 5:46 that Moses wrote about Him. Similarly, the other men and women of God mentioned in the faith "hall of fame" saw their calling as precursors to the coming of God's Kingdom through Jesus. Let's listen in as Pastor Todd reveals how the men and women of faith in the Old Testament walked out their calling looking to a future Kingdom. Pastor Todd teaches us today from Philippians 3, reminding us of Paul's comments about leaving things behind and reaching forward to what God has for us in Christ Jesus. In order to move forward in anything you have to leave things behind. Your future is not going to be any different if you stay in your past. A baby cannot be birthed until the umbilical cord is cut and they leave the womb. The Israelites had to leave Eqypt to become free or they would have remained slaves. Even so, when they had actually left Egypt they were not yet free. They carried with them the slave mindset. They were, effectively, runaway slaves. It was not until they saw the bodies of the Egyptians who were chasing them to bring them back into slavery, that they were delivered from the mindset of slavery. They had to see the death of what kept them captive in order to become truly free. Sometimes we can go to a new place with an old attitude. The people of Israel were delivered from their captivity but still desired the things of their enslavement. There is something comforting about enslavement. Why? Because I don't have to think for myself. Whatever we are enslaved by makes my decisions for me and determines my future. Do you look to your past to define your future? It's also a story of God's patience with people. An idolatrous, unfaithful, and quick to complain group of people that God desired to enter covenant relationship with.Basic principle of the Mosaic Covenant:Obedience to the commandments of the Lord brings blessing and God's favorDisobedience brings discipline and God's judgement.‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1:1-3‬‬ After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' aide: “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.‭‭Joshua‬ ‭3:9-17‬‬Joshua said to the Israelites, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God. This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites. See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you. Now then, choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord—the Lord of all the earth—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.” So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water's edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho. The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.‭‭Joshua‬ ‭4:19-24‬‬ On the tenth day of the first month the people went up from the Jordan and camped at Gilgal on the eastern border of Jericho. And Joshua set up at Gilgal the twelve stones they had taken out of the Jordan. He said to the Israelites, “In the future when your descendants ask their parents, ‘What do these stones mean?' tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.' For the Lord your God dried up the Jordan before you until you had crossed over. The Lord your God did to the Jordan what he had done to the Red Sea when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over. He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and so that you might always fear the Lord your God.”10th day of the first month ate the Passover meal then was led out from Eqypt (slavery/bondage) and miraculously through the Red Sea on dry ground…40 years later they miraculously cross the Jordan river on dry ground and celebrate the Passover meal as they are led into the land of promise (God's best).‭‭Joshua‬ ‭5:1-12‬‬ Now when all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings along the coast heard how the Lord had dried up the Jordan before the Israelites until they had crossed over, their hearts melted in fear and they no longer had the courage to face the Israelites. At that time the Lord said to Joshua, “Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites again.” So Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the Israelites at Gibeath Haaraloth. Now this is why he did so: All those who came out of Egypt—all the men of military age—died in the wilderness on the way after leaving Egypt. All the people that came out had been circumcised, but all the people born in the wilderness during the journey from Egypt had not. The Israelites had moved about in the wilderness forty years until all the men who were of military age when they left Egypt had died, since they had not obeyed the Lord. For the Lord had sworn to them that they would not see the land he had solemnly promised their ancestors to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey. So, he raised up their sons in their place, and these were the ones Joshua circumcised. They were still uncircumcised because they had not been circumcised on the way. And after the whole nation had been circumcised, they remained where they were in camp until they were healed. Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” So the place has been called Gilgal to this day. On the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, while camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, the Israelites celebrated the Passover. The day after the Passover, that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land: unleavened bread and roasted grain. The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land; there was no longer any manna for the Israelites, but that year they ate the produce of Canaan. If the giving of The Ten Commandments was the original Covenant act in the wandering, the circumcision at Gilgal was the final, consecrating act.‭‭Romans‬ ‭2:28-29‬‬ A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a person's praise is not from other people, but from God.God's promises aren't predictions; they're facts for the faithful.‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1:20-22‬‬For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so, through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. Merette Khalil, MScPH [she/her] is a multi-lingual health systems researcher, gender and sexual reproductive health and rights advocate, feminist, doula, and birth educator, passionate about ensuring the right to health for all. Merette is specialist on obstetric violence with her Master of Science in Public Health from the KIT Royal Tropical Institute. She has published her research on obstetric violence in Egypt and the Region, in book chapters and peer-reviewed publications, most recently in the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Merette is also the founder and CEO of YourEgyptianDoula, the first doula organization of its kind in Egypt and the Region working to educate, advocate, and empower expecting parents on their rights in childbirth to improve quality of respectful maternal care. This week Lindsay and Halle revisit the excellent 1998 movie The Prince of Eqypt. Between a stacked cast, an unbelievable soundtrack, and despite the harrowing adult themes, there's a lot to obsess over. Plus, stay for the end of the episode where Lindsay and Halle share their current obsessions. 

Apologies, the beginning wasn't recorded. Here is a transcipt of what is missing:There's a scene in the movie The 10 Commandments and it touches on this particular passage here. There is an Israelite who escapes from Egypt, and he's still in shackles, and he finds his way to Midian. And he's in search of Moses. Eventually they meet with one another and Moses recognizes him. And in the movie his name is Joshua. And Joshua arrives very weary, but Moses assures him and says to him, "finally, you will find rest and peace in this place." And Joshua looks at him and he's very dismayed at what Moses has just said to him. He says, "rest and peace? how could you talk about rest and peace when your people are being slaughtered and oppressed in Eqypt? Moses, how could you just enjoy your life? Do you not know who you are? Do you not know that you are the Lord's deliverer?" Moses (who was 80 years old) had been in Midian for 40 years. He went from being a prince of Egypt to being a shepherd for his father-in-law's flock (a detestable role in the eyes of an Egyptian). God saw to it that Moses would see the burning bush and calls him by name. When a name is doubled in scripture it is an indication of intimacy. God's presence made the ground holy. This revelation is fear-inducing, but His words are reassuring as He reminds Moses of His promises. God not only reveals His character, He also tells of His plan.

The Pons is the bridge between the lower mind and what's hidden to the upper mind where illumination develops. It's the Hawk or Eagle symbol that is associated with the Eye Of Horus in Eqypt texts. The Hawk resembles the Pons and medulla oblongata. The Pons is the communication device that transfers information to the higher brain. It is connected to the 6th cranial nerve known as the abducens nerve. This nerve, scientifically is also known as the bridge. It is connected to our eyesight but is not limited to that function. Pisces, the two fish signifies the divide. One fish reaching towards the jogger realms while the other attempting to drag the other one down. If they were to meet in the middle of this divide, the vesica pisces would be created. Matter, water is associated with Creation. But also devastation. Right down the center is Flow.
