THE VIBE with Kelly Cardenas presents Taylor Clark is credited with being the first stand-up comic to have ever broken through in comedy via skateboarding. After Thrasher and Low card Magazine covered him in their magazines, Gary Vaynerchuck's 137p.m did an extensive interview with him as well. All of this transpired when Taylor dropped his self-produced debut album “Addictive Tickle” along with video clips from that recording. The jokes he released first are now considered groundbreaking comedy routines on skateboarding because he was the first comic to perform jokes that communicated the subculture and lifestyle of a skater to a general audience, accurately, and they got it. Since then he has been touring the country performing in clubs and comedy venues but also in skate shops and at skate contests. He recently recorded his first comedy special and is planning his next US tour in summer/fall of 2024 When he isn't on tour Taylor can be found teaching comedy classes and directing talent for the Seattle International Comedy Competition (S.I.C.C) He has now taught over 200 comics, and in in his third year as talent director for S.I.C.C. His two sons and hot Brazilian wife live with him reluctantly in Everett Washington.

Alaska Airlines pilot Joseph David Emerson was catching a ride from Everett Washington, to San Francisco, California.  The off-duty pilot was seated in the cockpit jump seat of Horizon Air Flight 2059,  having casual conversation with the pilot and co-pilot. Everett (WA) Fire Department was dispatched to a "residential fire" initially, although it was quickly upgraded to a "working fire". Upon arrival, there were reports of one wheelchair-bound occupant still trapped. The engine pulled a line, and the ladder was initially tasked with VES/window-initiated search. After talking with another resident, the ladder company decided to make entrance to the Charlie-side door. They found and removed a victim in the hallway, then began treating the unconscious victim outside. After an ambulance crew took over pt care, the ladder crew went back in to finish the search and ran into the engine crew removing a second victim. The second victim was removed, and crews began CPR. In the end, three victims were transported, and as of last known information, all three were still alive.

We return to Snohomish County this week to the City of Everett (and county seat) to learn about this network within a network from  Everett Transit Director Tom Hingson. With a transit career spanning 40 years, Tom has seen it all, from behind the wheel to behind the scenes as a transit leader. Everett is one of the larger cities between the Canadian border and Seattle and is part of Snohomish County--learn more about that transit system from Ric Ilgenfritz--which means Tom needs to help his community not only get around the city but also connect with Community Transit, Sound Transit, and King County Transit. Like all transit systems, Tom is transitioning to a zero-emissions fleet. Everett Transit is using grid-powered battery electric buses for the backbone of his green fleet. Unlike larger systems (like Community Transit surrounding his service area), he doesn't have long runs to manage. He doesn't have to work about range as much as being able to charge buses throughout the day. Tom is opting for inductive charging below the buses at key transit hubs so buses can run all day and just switch out drivers. This is a big transition for Everett Transit which has traditionally operated with drivers assigned to a bus rather than a route. So the driver returns to the depot at the end of their shift, and another bus goes out. As Everett Transit moves to zero emissions buses, this will move to the more typical model of drivers switching buses mid-route. But the biggest thing on Tom's mind is growth. Pressed for space, Tom and his team are looking at how or if they could merge with Community Transit to fund growth and grow the network overall. There are a lot of moving pieces, and Tom explains all of them in his conversation with Paul. Also on the show... Paul's newest book Comfort Food is out and available on Amazon! Sad news for shoppers in Everett, Washington, with confirmation that the Walmart at 11400 Highway 99 will close on April 21.It is another blow to residents in Washington, who have faced a number of retail store closures this year, with more set to come.Walmart is closing several stores across the United States as "unfortunately, some do not meet our financial expectations. While our underlying business is strong, these specific stores haven't performed as well as we hoped.”Local retailers at the strip mall were disappointed with the news, with some stating they relied on Walmart to drive customers to them.The store opened in 2006 and employed 198 people who will be offered the opportunity to move to another Walmart location. Chad and Somphien Manivanh both were born into Buddhist families in Southeast Asia during times of war. When they were young children, different Christian refugee programs helped them to get to America, where they continued to search for peace and ultimately found it in the Church of  Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They especially liked that many of the health codes that they honored in Buddhism were also honored in their new church. They met in college and married. Today they live in Everett Washington. Before my kids leave home, I sit them down for an exit interview. What did we do right? What did we do wrong? Regrets? Things we're proud of. What do you think about your brothers and sister?  Bo is a beautiful kid and the last 18 years have been absolutely wild. Something new every day.  Next week he'll get on a plane and fly across the country to be a missionary in the Everett Washington area. We won't see him for 2 years. It's heart wrenching, but I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love you Bo.

I was recently invited to Rise Up Academy to teach a podcast workshop and give the students some basic skills and tools on storytelling and finding some heroes and inspirational people in their family and community to interview. The famous first episode! I melodically brainstorm possible running themes of the show like, creativity, relationships, children, maturity and the always entertaining and relatable topic of, wait for it, skateboarding! With hilarious execution, I dig into several details of my origin story. I attempt to figure out and explain why I moved in with my family from NYC, to my childhood home, in god forsaken Everett Washington. I record this show in that same home, across the yard from my parents, who live in a barn, which I also attempt to explain. In closing, I find a win/win solution for bad cops and wild boars.
