Not only is Mr. Arcemont a 6th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, he's also MAIA's newest consultant, a Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and just recently signed the lease to his 2nd location. His martial arts journey began at Southeast Texas Taekwondo Academy, where he began taking classes. His mother married his taekwondo instructor and the school became a family business. For 15 years Mr. Arcemont taught at his family's school, before going on to open his own academy - Hero's Martial Arts Academy 12 years ago. From the time he was in high school, he was working with underserved and underprivileged children in school gyms. To this day, Mr. Arcemont never turns down an opportunity to serve his community by empowering children through martial arts. That's why he is passionate about being partners in education with 15+ schools in his community (with an emphasis on character education). MAIA provided the systems to really take these programs to the next level and he still implements their teachings in his own academy today. His tip for success is to find a consultant that aligns with your values and learn what works, and implement their best practices because in the end - learning from someone else's experience can save you time. As he so wisely put it: “Ask yourself ‘where am I headed next?'.” The key is to think long-term, use your goals as a compass, and update them as needed. This episode was a blast! Be sure to check it out to hear Mr. Arcemont's testimony of taking action and how it's helped him to cultivate continuous GROWTH in his academy while being able to contribute to his community and his team.

Join Gordon as he interviews the owner of Banks' Martial Arts Academy with over 600 members, Thomas Banks. Together they discuss what it takes to start, grow and scale a martial arts business, how systems and operations can help to build your business and why focusing on your own vision and providing your members with world-class service is essential to success.    KEY TAKEAWAYS  It becomes easier to sell and gain more members when you have a packed timetable of popular classes and you can diversify the types of classes later on, you need to smell what sells and teach the popular classes in the beginning to build your school.  People don't care about titles or achievements, they only care about the service you're providing them. Focus on changing their life through world-class service and you will grow your martial arts school.  To become a much bigger school you need systems and operations. Building a world-class martial arts brand with excellent service is great but you need systems to scale. Members need to be able to book onto classes online, owners need a CRM to track customers, revenue and successfully community with students. You need to have a vision and a purpose because when you're clear on that you have the reason you need to create your own reality and drive your business forward which is essential to motivating your staff to bring in more revenue and produce an excellent service to your members. Always focus on yourself and what you're giving back to your students rather than what everyone else is doing. Aim to look at others that are doing well and add to your school to improve and grow.    BEST MOMENTS  “If you build it, people will come.” “I decided to switch my method of teaching and sales picked up,  I was selling more and more. “You need to smell what sells, teach what's popular and add on the other stuff later.” “When people have graduated to black belts we've then put them into other programmes and now they're all teaching” “Not having systems in your school from the start is a massive blocker when it comes to growth” “Too often martial arts can be a secluded world where you feel alone.” “Money is to have the freedom to spend as much time as you want with your family.” VALUABLE RESOURCES   The Business of Martial Arts by Gordon Burcham   ABOUT THE HOST   Gordon Burcham is a best-selling author, 3 x World martial arts champion, and award-winning Martial arts school owner. Sean: Having the right people in the right team is extremely important, but not a lot of entrepreneurs know that, especially when they're starting out. I didn't know how important it was when I was starting out. All I thought was I have to have this position filled because I can't do the job anymore. And what that ended up for me is when I hired the wrong people, they would burn more of my stuff down and I had to fix that as well. And it didn't make sense for me to hire them in the first place. You mentioned the word gossip. How bad is it when people gossip, because it's almost like a pastime culture here in the Philippines. Sensei: I think that's everywhere. Sean: Pretty much everywhere. Right? Cause we're human beings. You know, some entrepreneurs would just let it slide. They just think to themselves out as natural, that's normal people, gossip, but you single that out. There's something that you know about gossip that is dangerous for business. Can you tell us a little bit more about what you know, so we can learn from you there? Sensei: Gossip is a killer. It's a killer of business. It's a killer of relationships. Business is all about relationships. And if you've got someone that likes to gossip in your business, you can expect to lose other employees or vendors or clients. Look, I nip it in the bud right away. I'm not a boss. I'm terrible at being a boss, but I believe I'm a good leader. There's a difference. People, fear bosses, people follow leaders. See? And so I have to lead by example. I don't gossip. I'm very straightforward. Some people don't like the bluntness of being either black or white in conversation. They want me to go around. That's not what I do, but I'm not rude or crass or any of those things. I will approach you in a very professional, kind of a fun manner because I joke around and I love doing scare tactics to all my employees around here, but here's a thing. If I've got someone that is producing any type of gossip, I will always have the manager of the office. Take them off to the side and explain, this is something that we do not do under this roof here or anything wearing the logo of this business. Gossip is not allowed, if you do it, it's in your own home. We set the rules right away. We would draw the line in the sand. Don't cross that line because if you cross that line, you're in the wrong territory and we're going to push you back. I give one warning, second warning, I'm sorry you're done, you're out. Because I cannot afford to pay someone that is killing my relationship. And unfortunately, like I said, there's no fail-proof system out there, but as a manager, as an assistant manager, as a leader, or as a boss, we must keep our eyes and ears open for these types of unwantedness in the office space. And it must be nipped in the bud. Not what you said. It's kind of normal. No, it's not normal for Black Belt investors. No, it's not normal for 360 Martial Arts Academy. What's normal is being truthful and being helpful to our vendors and clients. Teaching Children How to Accept Persons with Disabilities

Being that I am a fair skinned, red head who grew up on the Gulf Coast of Florida, I find myself frequently visiting the Dermatologist to have spots, “checked”. Here lately I call these my yearly personal donations to science as I have had one after another skin cancer removed. (PSA – Wear your sunscreen!) A few years ago, I had one that left me with a very large scar right on my neckline. It's faded a lot but when I work out, the make-up wears off and it's more noticeable. This was the case a few weeks ago teaching a children's Taekwondo class. I was helping a little girl with her belt and she reached up and touched my neck and asked, “Is that a scar?” I said, “Yes, it is.” She looked for a moment and then gave me a big grin as she rolled up her sleeve.” I have a scar, too!” We both laughed and went on with the lesson. It was a connection moment between myself and a little girl and it got me thinking. I don't know for sure how her mom or dad would have reacted had they been there when she asked the question, but I do know that often times we as parents overreact to a situation like this. When our children are curious about someone who is different from them, say, with a scar or in a wheelchair, we tend to get embarrassed and say things like, “Don't stare!” or we pull them away quickly and scold them for being rude. I believe there is a better way to react that will increase “normalizing” those who have a disability that won't cause children to be afraid and won't alienate or embarrass the individual. Here are some tips to get you started: Your child says, “What's wrong with them?” You respond, “There is nothing wrong with them, they are just different.” Lead the child into noticing what about them is the same. Talk about what someone might think is different about them. Explain that everyone has something different about them and everyone has strengths and weaknesses. Because someone's leg muscles don't work the same way yours do, doesn't mean there is something wrong with them. They are simply different. You child says, “Why does he have only one leg?” You respond, “I'm not sure. He seems to be doing great don't you think?” OR If the situation is right, ask the person if it would be okay for your child to ask a question about their missing leg. This could be very educational for your child and help them see that people with disabilities are just like them in most ways and not someone to be afraid of, shunned, or pitied. On the contrary, they should be accepted and respected just like all people. Use words like, helps instead of can't. “The wheelchair helps him move around better.” Instead of “He needs a wheelchair because he can't walk.” Remember, it's okay that your child is curious. Teach them to be respectful and kind as well. Try not to lead them away from others with obvious physical disabilities. That causes fear and pity in a child for the individual and it is quite isolating to have others avoid you. Teach them to smile and make eye contact with all people. It does wonders for their own confidence, as well as makes those around them feel accepted. Do teach them to ask before helping a handicapped individual. Don't assume they can't do things on their own. It's a great idea to have these conversations around the dinner table or while taking a walk, before an encounter occurs. Teach empathy not sympathy. Most people want to be respected, not pitied. One last thing. Not all disabilities are visible. Autism for instance. Speak with your child about patience when dealing with someone in their class who is on the autism spectrum. Teach them to look out for people who may be struggling and offer to help and be a friend to them. A little courtesy and respect can go a long way in making the lives of all people brighter. Remember to use the same attributes when dealing with those who have a disability. It can be very frustrating when you child freezes up, won't join the group or hides behind your leg when you are trying to introduce them to someone new. Fight the frustration and take a breath. Be patient and help your child slowly gain the confidence they need by being supportive. Getting upset with them will not help them feel more comfortable and may embarrass them even further making participation even less likely. If it embarrasses you, simply say to the other people involved. "This is something we are working on, thank you for your patience." This will help you feel better as well as let your child know you are there to help them. The other adults will understand. This is something EVERY parent has been through. You are not the only one and with patience and time, you can help your child overcome. When you have time alone with your child, let them know that being afraid to participate or to say hello to someone is not a behavior you want them to get used too. Help make an action plan for the next time so they can be prepared and know exactly how they are to act and the steps, even the words, they are are to do and say. 90% of the time it is the fear of the unknown. Help them to know better what to expect and how to handle themselves when things happen that they don't expect. If your child, on the other hand, knows no stranger and is the first to volunteer for everything, help them learn how to spot someone who may be having a hard time joining in and teach them to be a friend. Teach them how to go up to that person and introduce themselves. Teach them not to just include others but to look for those who NEED including. Their confidence is their super power and they should use it to make someone's day brighter. Ivan Shtyrkov is a Russian sambo wrestler and mixed martial arts fighter, bronze medalist of the Russian Sambo Championships, master of sports of Russia. In mixed martial arts (MMA), he had 20 fights, 17 of which he won, 2 lost and 1 ended in a draw. Ivan also a President of the Martial Arts Academy of the Russian Copper Company (RCC). Currently, Ivan fights for Archangel Michael Team. Since 2015 he has been performing in mixed martial arts. He spends all his fights in the RCC Boxing Promotions. Ivan spent his first 11 fights in heavyweight, defeating such famous fighters as Jeff Monson, Antonio Silva, Philip de Fries, Satoshi Ishii, among others. After that, he moved to light heavyweight and won two victories - first by unanimous decision over Christian M'Pumbu, and then, also by decision of the judges, defeated Marcin Lazarz. On May 5, 2018, he returned to heavyweight and fought against Brazilian Geronimo dos Santos. The fight turned out to be very equal and difficult for both fighters - and, as a result, a draw by the majority of the judges' votes. On October 27, 2018, as part of the RCC promotion, Shtyrkov fought another fight against the famous Brazilian Fabio Maldonado. The fight was held in intermediate weight up to 98 kg. Shtyrkov won the second round by TKO. On December 15, in Yekaterinburg, as part of the RCC5 show, Shtyrkov defeated the Brazilian Thiago Silva with a painful hold in the first round. In June 2019, the UFC terminated the contract with the Russian fighter, as the World Anti-Doping Organization had claims against him. Shtyrkov did not wait for the decision to disqualify and terminated his contract with UFC. He became a free agent in this way. On July 4, 2019, Ivan Shtyrkov signed a contract with the Japanese promotion Rizin. Ivan fought his first fight in the new organization on July 28, 2019, in Saitama, defeating the South Korean fighter Hong Kim. Ivan completely controlled the course of the fight and as a result, the judges stopped the fight ahead of schedule in order to protect the Korean athlete who missed heavy punches on the ground. On December 14, 2019, at the RCC 7 tournament, Ivan Shtyrkov suffered his first defeat in his career. His rival was a Swiss fighter of Japanese origin Yasubey Enomoto, who spent most of the battles in Russia. The fight took place in an unusual average weight for Ivan, which obviously affected the functional capabilities of the Russian fighter. In the first round, Shtyrkov was very active both in standing and on the ground. However, in the second, he was noticeably tired and fell for a chokehold. On December 13, 2020, in the main fight of the ACA 115 tournament, Ivan Shtyrkov lost by unanimous decision to Magomed Ismailov. What's true strength: beating up a tough opponent, or admitting the tears you shed when the fights are over?On this episode of the ROI Online Podcast, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Eliot Marshall shares the many lessons he's learned as a bullied kid turned UFC fighter turned business owner—and how these lessons apply to life outside of the ring as well.Since he was a young kid, the only place Eliot felt like he fit in was the Martial Arts Academy. He struggled to make friends at school, and with his half-Black half-Jewish heritage, found himself the victim of bullies more than once. But fighting was a way to work through his pain and fear. It became his passion, and he grew stronger, he turned that passion into a career.During fights, the fear of death creates an adrenaline rush unlike anything else. Eliot felt alive, strong, and free. But, while fear was his greatest strength in the ring, it makes life outside the academy very difficult. He has struggled with constant anxiety and dark episodes of depression. Fighting isn't a life-long gig. Eventually, you get to a place where you need to start something new. For Eliot, that something new was his own Martial Arts Academy, the Easton Training Center in Colorado. He began teaching his skill to others. As rewarding as teaching was, he still found himself in the depths of depression. He stayed up late, crying and wrestling with the pain inside of him. His students stayed with him during that period. Their late-night phone calls and weekly support kept him going.Eliot believes what really makes a man isn't how hard he can punch or how much he can take. It's showing up, setting an example, and sharing the highs and the lows. It's easy to pretend like everything is fine, but acknowledging when you're hurting and when you've messed up is much more difficult. He practices this regularly with his kids.Eliot shares his story in his book, The Gospel of Fire. He also hosts a podcast of the same name. His school has become one of Colorado's leading martial arts schools, with 7 locations across the Denver area. You can learn more about Eliot here:https://eliotmarshall.com/Listen to Eliot's podcast: https://eliotmarshall.com/category/podcasts/Read Eliot's book: The Gospel of Fire: Strategies for Facing Your Fears, Confronting Your Demons, and Finding Your PurposeRead the books referenced in this podcast:The Four Agreements by Don Miguel RuizGet your copy Steve Brown's book, The Golden Toilet. In the famous book, The Hero's Journey, it talks about somebody being unprepared, facing a challenge, having to train, and then coming back home and realizing it is home, with a new set of eyes. That's a pretty common theme in martial arts, and that's no exception with today's guest, Mike Lee.   Mike Lee teaches Tat Wong Kung Fu and has been training in it since 13. He's even gone on to compete nationally and internationally and now has his own martial arts school, One Tribe Martial Arts Academy.   At Mike's school, they teach a wide range of students — their youngest being three years old, and their oldest being 82! They run seven days a week with unlimited classes and teach traditional Kung Fu and Chinese kickboxing, as well as lion dancing.   In today's episode, Mike talks about his school; how and why he originally got into the martial arts; the principles of the style he teaches; the important virtues at his school; how martial arts has impacted him, personally and professionally; and his ideas around building a sense of community, both in class and through social media.   Key Takeaways: [:45] About today's guest, Mike Lee. Born in January of 1980, Chris first began his journey in the Martial Arts aged 8. Inspired, as many were at the time, by the movie 'The Karate Kid', Chris joined the local Taekwondo school in his home town of Balby in Doncaster. He enjoyed the high energy kicking style associated with Olympic Taekwondo, although unfortunately the school had to close forcing Chris to look at other options to continue his training. In the mid to late 90's Chris switchted to the ITF style of Taekwondo. Around the same time he discovered the work of Jackie Chan, quickly amassing a large collection of VHS tapes, Chris would spend hours trying to emulate the moves of his new found hero. He began recording his training and sharing the footage online via Martial Arts based internet forums. It was there that UK director and producer Steve Lawson first spotted Chris and offered him his first job in 2000 on a short film shot for a TV show.   The following year, Chris was invited to perform as part of the 'Rising Dragon' Martial Arts team at the Royal Variety Performance. To perform for the Queen was a huge honour! Following on from this, Chris worked many  UK productions such as 'Left 4 Dead', Insiders', 'The Purifiers' and 'Displaced' before landing his first job as Fight Choreographer on 2005 release 'Soul Searcher' Shortly after completing work on Soul Searcher, Chris was asked to Choreograph a fight scene on the award winning 'Love Struck' as well as playing a small acting role in the movie 'The Silencer'. This gave Chris the opportunity to work with talented fight peformers and actors such as Joey Ansah, Christian Howard & Glen Salvage. He also gained valuable set time working with a vastly experienced crew and production team. Around the same time, Chris gained experience working on live TV as well as appearing on the popular BBC TV show 'Prank Patrol', he also travelled to Norway to act as Fight Choreographer on the live action adaptation of comicbook 'Smasher'. Earlier, in mid 2004, Chris gained experience working on the SONY PSP release 'Pursuit Force' as well as working on the Five TV series 'Combat Club' before returning to film Screen Fighting a year or two later in the UK production 'Underground'. In the late 2000's Chris worked in China on 'Blood: The Last Vampire', the UK TV series 'Star Hyke' as well as the movies 'Ten Dead men' and 'Bodyguard: A new beginning'. In 2009, Chris decided to take time away to spend time with his family and develop his Martial Arts Academy. 2013 saw a return to action as Fight Choreographer on the multiple award winning 'DOG' as well as working most recently as a screen fighter and choreographer on the films 'Vengeance', 'Wendy' and 'Essex Heist'. The Entrepreneur Unleashed with Patti Keating. Mindset and business tips for purposeful entrepreneurs

Tristan Truscott is the co-founder and owner of the Satori Method. As a young man Tristan Truscott became involved in the Martial Arts where he began his study of the mind-body-spirit connection. After many years of dedicated training Tristan was granted the coveted level of Black Belt and went on to build a thriving Martial Arts Academy that has generated millions of dollars. For the past 10 years he has focused his energy on mastering the art of online “freedom-based” business. For Tristan freedom is a word that points to time-freedom, money-freedom and spiritual freedom. One of his greatest joys is coaching entrepreneurs to have more of all three by managing their daily energy, mastering their marketing, and merging their business practice with their spiritual practice. In addition to coaching purpose-driven entrepreneurs on growing their business (with online marketing) Tristan also runs his online Health and Wellness company: the Satori Method Academy, along side his beautiful wife Sabrina Truscott. Inspiration: He always had an entrepreneurial bug in him. As as a young person, he had a car-detail business with his best friend which did really well, but he wanted to continue and do more. Since he had a deep love for martial arts, he picked up and moved and opened his first martial arts studio in Austin, Texas. Challenge: While teaching and running his martial arts school for years, Tristan was forced to end his martial arts career, due to a crippling back injury. Even after five years of intense pain and an unsuccessful surgery, Tristan pushed onwards seeking a solution to his crisis.  He finally had a healing breakthrough that helped him reclaim his health and he begin teaching again. Overcoming Challenges: Tristan discovered that the focus of the mind when unified with the energy of the body is the greatest transforming power we have, if developed correctly. He found the practice of Qigong the way to get himself out of chronic pain and shift his focus to giving back and helping people. Lessons: Tristan learned many lessons along the process. The first and biggest lesson was to ask for help. The second thing he learned was that life lessons will come whether you are looking for them or not. It just presents itself to you in a different way, and it's up to you to recognize the direction you need to take. Passion: Tristan is passionate about the powers of the internet for entrepreneurs. It gives them the ability to serve others on a grander scale than ever before. He's excited to use the internet to reach more people and combine that with your purpose driven business. He also loves being able to teach people what he is so knowledgeable about. Vision: His vision for the next few years is to help people spread the word about personal growth, personal transformations and spiritual growth and to play at a bigger level. Advice: Map out your journey. Really know who you want to serve and find them, and then meet them where they are at and serve! Personal Growth: Tristan has found that there is a congruency in both his business life and spiritual life, and that by being one in the same, he is in a place of harmony. Entrepreneurs Resource: Use 2 internet browsers; one for online apps and the other for regular web browsing. Google Drive - for storage, presentations, docs, etc LeadPages Click funnels Email delivery (with EmailDelivered) Wordpress for his main website Ultracart - online shopping cart Skype WebinarJam Looking Back: He would encourage his younger self to go inside and listen to your inner self and your intuition. Look for great teachers and mentors and see the results from he student that follow those mentors. Interview Links: Learn more about Tristan Truscott by visiting www.satorimethod.com

Todays guest on Join Up Dots is a man who has been a small business owner for the last 18 years, and has learnt the hard way that to allow a business to thrive,. He believes that this means as much allowing the owner to thrive than anything else. Leaving Sienna Heights College with a Bachelor's Degrees in, Business Administration and Management, our guest set about creating one of the most successful martial arts schools in the State of Washington. Miller's Martial Arts Academy has become a key part of the neighbourhood for nearly twenty years, and is not just about teaching his pupils to break bricks with their heads (to be honest Im not even sure that this is what they do), but to teach children of all ages appropriate life skills which boost their self confidence. It teaches them responsibility, persistence, commitment and all the other things that will help the transition to adult hood and a successful life. And now with his new platform De-Mythify he is out to help the adults of the world, particularly the small business owners who have created income in their lives, but end up disliking the very thing that they have built. As he says "I have spoken to lots of burnt out business owners over the last nearly 20 years.  I do not think you wake up not wanting to be a business owner. While, certainly, there could be a single event that sours you to the passion of being an business owner, that kind of change of heart only happens over time. It's what I call the “death by a million paper cuts”.  An owner has so many “plates spinning”– get this task going, now go do that task, hey we are out of toilet paper, John called off again,  we lost our best customer, customer z is complaining again.  All these little things add up so that the cumulative effect is that you wake up hating the thing that you truly loved doing just a few years ago." He seems a man who not only still loves what he is doing, but is now finding extra speed and energy because of that passion. He has found his thing (amongst being a  rare horse breeder) and a real estate investor, and wants others to find theirs too. So how has he managed to stay energised, and keep all those plates spinning day after day, and come back for even more plates? LifeFight w/ Jermaine Andre: Personal Development | Self-Defense | Fitness | Personal Safety

Why do I think we need to “befriend” fear you may ask. My answer is because fear is an emotion that has a great impact upon our lives. It can control and guide a lot of our decision making and it will always exist within our life. And when there is something that exists within our life, we must learn to cope and find comfort within it. Regardless of how imperative fear is within our lives, there are no lessons taught in school or even the home on how to deal with properly deal with fear or manage our self when we are afraid. When you think about how unexplored dealing with fear is and how shallow the lessons are on how to handle it, one has to think that may there’s someone out there who wants us to be afraid. Could this be true? Are we better as a whole or maybe even easier to control when we’re afraid? Can it be bad for us not to be afraid? Believe that I am going to dissect the *#%! out of these questions. We all have fears and I admit to a couple of mines’ on my Befriending Fear segment. I also tell the story of my battle against a long legged bug with a pointy sticker at the end of his face. Learn how I used my Samurai Sword and the way of the Samurai to settle our differences as he trespassed on my Martial Arts Academy property! We respond inappropriately when we’re afraid. We scream, run away, hit, shut down, hide and more. On Befriending Fear I show how we take our self to a whole new playing ground when we learn to control our self when we are afraid. New options present themselves as our mind fills our body with super human powers because we are afraid. During my fight career I used the powers of fear to fuel me through my fights. I even meditated on fear to assure that I was best buddies with it when it appeared. This actually gave me an advantage over my brother competitors because it placed me at a weird step ahead of them. It allowed me the power to drag them into a realm that they weren’t familiar with. And the funny part of it is that I actually allowed them to drag ME into it. And when we got there…they were lost and I knew exactly where I was thanks to my friendship with fear.I hope “Befriending Fear” fortunes you with information that will allow you similar advantages in your LifeFight. Have fun listening!Sincerely,Jermaine Life Fight - Show 002 - Befriend Your Fear
