Virtual Reality is an emerging new technology. It has a variety of uses and applications that can benefit humanity. But, so many of us are using this tech to create worlds of isolation for ourselves. San Diego Comic Con wrapped up last week, and while there sadly wasn't a Game of Thrones trailer, there were quite a few others. We talk about Star Trek Discovery, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewald, and Shazam. Both Fortnite and No Man's Sky got huge updates. No Man's Sky is like a full game now. No, really. Folks on the Internet keep saying EA forced BioWare to make Anthem, but that's just not the case. However, BioWare's perception has changed a lot all due to that thing they did Mass Effect 3. The Maze Runner trilogy is a pretty good dystopian story. Stephen King's latest novel is a page-turner, and apparently you need lots and lots of dice to play D&D
In this episode I introduce the show, talk about gaming PCs, take a look at the game sales chart and games coming out this week, and there's my review of Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.

The creators of Westworld did something totally awesome. Ready Player One was ok. A new Solo: A Star Wars Story trailer has hit and the book, Leia: Princess of Alderaan is pretty good. Special guest Marcia Morgan from the Mommy Gamers joins us this week. We give a rundown of the winners from the Game Awards, and some things we think the show needs to do better. Then we talk about the PlayStation Experience and some of the cool new demos and trailers we saw there. Finally, the Switch is selling like gangbusters and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp will be getting an update soon. For questions email gamingwiththemoms@gmail.com or tweet @gamingwithmoms
The final, at least for now, word on Star Wars Battlefront II comes from EA's CFO. Turns out they couldn't make loot boxes out of cosmetic items because they don't own Star Wars. It's a great point no one thought about. Player Unknown Battlegrounds is coming to mobile, bu just in China for now. Animal Crossing Pocket Camp has been released and has taken over our lives. Some Animal Crossing fans are complaining about it, but we think they're just wrong. Also there is going to be a Mario cereal. For real. For questions or feedback email gamingwiththemoms@gmail.com or tweet @gamingwithmoms
Star Wars Battlefront II is grabbing all the headlines, but not in a good way. Since the game became available on Early Access, its multiplayer component has left a sour taste in lots of gamers' mouths. What will it mean for the game? Nominees for the third game awards have been announced and Nintendo is dominating the list. In addition Player Unknown Battlegrounds has been nominated in a couple of categories, despite the fact that's still in Beta. What does than mean in terms of what can be nominated? Also, there may be a Mario animated movie on the way. For questions and feedback email gamingwithmoms@gmail.com or tweet @gamingwithmoms
Seems like everyone loves Super Mario Odyssey and it shows. The game has sold more 1 million units in tthe U.S. alone. That makes it the fastest selling Mario game in history. But sales aren't the only thing going for it. It's also garnering almost universal good reviews. The success of Odyssey offers a contrast to Nintendo's mobile game Super Mario Run. While that game has tons of downloads, it's not making enough money to make Nintendo happy, but the mobile Animal Crossing game could make those bad feelings go away. Sony made tons of announcement and gave updates on previously announced games at the Paris Games Week. And finally, the Xbox One X hits stores next week. For questions or comments send an email to gamingwiththemoms@gmail.com or tweet @gamingwithmoms
Electronic Arts closed their studio, Visceral Games, last week. The studio had been working on the new Star Wars game. EA says they need to "pivot" the design of the game to "keep players coming back." The move has spawned discussions about the future of single-player games. In other controversial news, some gamers are saying that loot boxes or their equivalent in games are gambling. We say they're not. Plus the Switch now supports GameCube controllers. Can you say Smash, anyone? For questions and feedback send an email to gamingwiththemoms@gmail.com or tweet @gamingwithmoms.
The Xbox One's Groove music service is shutting down. In more Xbox One news, game gifting is on the way. Overwatch is getting ready to celebrate Halloween again with another event. Turtle Rock studios is making a turn-based VR RPG (what?), Stardew Valley has hit the Switch and Destiny's first Faction Rally has just wrapped up. For questions, email gamingwiththemoms@gmail.com or tweet @gamingwithmoms
Ubisoft announced that there will be an educational mode in Assassin's Creed Origins. This is something teachers and other educators have been clamoring for. We've got some more details on the Ataribox, and boy is it expensive! The SNES Classic is out now. Were you able to get one? Also there's a huge sale going on in the Xbox Store, and Warner Bros. tries to do good from a employee and botches it a little. For questions and feedback, email gamingwiththemoms@gmail.com or tweet @gamingwithmoms
Nintendo hit us with a ton of new announcements in their most recent Nintendo Direct. We thought the Nintendo 3DS was dying, but it's totally not. And we saw some more Super Mario Odyssey where, yes, we see what Mario looks like without a shirt. Outside of the Nintendo Direct we got some other announcement like the return of the NES Classic Edition and Nintendo swears there will be a lot more SNES Classics on the market when it's released later this year. Destiny 2 is getting a ton of content right out of the gate. ThatGameCompay has revealed its newest game, and Magic the Gathering is going digital. For questions and feedback email gamingwiththemoms@gmail.com or tweet @gamingwithmoms
Nintendo put out a Nintendo Direct all about upcoming indie games for their platforms, also called Nindies. Gamescom wrapped up last week and there was a fair bit of news that came out of the show. Also wigs are apparently a big thing there. Final Fantasy XV is getting a weird crossover with Assassin's Creed Origins. Deathmatch has come to Overwatch, and the Miiverse is shutting down. Send any questions or feedback to gamingwiththemoms@gmail.com or tweet @gamingwithmoms
We're entering into convention season. If you're a board game nerd you probably already know about Gencon. Next week Gamescom will be happening in Germany. In other news, Valve is working on a card game, the Nintendo World Championships are back, No Man's Sky is getting an update with a story. Microsoft is offering game development classes in their store, and Minecon is going digital. And Stephen lets Nicole have a short Game of Thrones geek out. The D23 Expo just happened. This is the place Disney announced everything related to Disney. We've got the details on the big news. Comic Con is this weekend. There will be lots of everything there. We've got the scoop on what to look forward to. Atari is making a new console of some sort. The Nintendo Switch online app is available now, but there's not much to do with it. Plus Hearthstone is getting an expansion and a new character has appeared in Overwatch. Send questions and feedback to gamingwiththemoms@gmail.com or tweet @gamingwithmoms
The seventh season of Game of Thrones debuts this Sunday and we can't wait. Well, Stephen can, but that's a whole other issue. We recap what happened at the end of last season and comment on the trailers. Of course, this wouldn't be a proper show without predictions. We make quite a few, including major plot points, love, and, of course, who will die. Questions and feedback can be sent to gamingwiththemoms@gmail.com or tweet @gamingwithmoms
No one is surprised, but in case you didn't heare, Nintendo is releasing a SNES Classic Edition this fall. We've got all the details and thoughts about the reasons behind the release. The E3 Game Critics Awards winners have been announced. A guy whose name starts with an M dominated. Speaking of said guy, the crazy Mario + Rabbids game is a rip-off of XCOM, but the makers of XCOM are thrilled about it. BioWare said "something" is happening with Dragon Age. And the makers of Rocket League voice their frustrations with Sony and cross-platform play. Got something to say? Send an email to gamingwiththemoms@gmail.com or tweet @gamingwithmoms
Once a year the gaming industry gets together to talk about the big things they have planned for the future. We give our predictions for all the big platfrom makers and publishers, including Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, EA, Ubisoft and Bethesda. Then after the show, we'll let you know how right or wrong we were. Questions and feedback can be sent to gamingwiththemoms@gmail.com or tweeted to @gamingwithmoms.
Nintendo held a Nintendo Direct that was all about Arms. We've got the details in case you missed Overwatch is getting ready to celebrate its first anniversay with a big event. Squirtle is coming to Build-A-Bear and we all want one. Speaking of Pokemon, a fossil event is happening in Pokemon GO. More rock type pokemon will be common throughout the event and PokeStops will drop more loot. Ubisoft has confirmed details about its E3 press conference and a new Lego Marvel Super Heroes game is on the way. For questions or feedback, send an email to gamingwiththemoms@gmail.com or tweet @gamingwithmoms
Nintendo has revealed the details of the first DLC for The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. It's called the Master Trials and it will include lots of new content like a hard mode and a tingle outfit. Blizzard has announced that Hearthstone has hit 70 million players and they're giving out free stuff to celebrate. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch is the fastest selling Mario Kart game in history, having sold about 500,000 on launch day alone. You can find some fan designed Nintendo shirts on Uniqlo, and there have been some price drops on PlayStation VR. Finally, the Division is free to play this weekend, so log on and see if you like it. You can email questions and feedback to gamingwiththemoms@gmail.com or tweet @gamingwithmoms.
We get started off with some non-gaming news about Game of Thrones and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which is apparently singular according to the director. We don't believe him. Speaking Star Wars, Star Wars Battlefront II has been announced. Unlike the previos game, this one is going to include a single-player campaign and the star of that game mode might surprise you. It looks like Nintendo is getting ready to make a SNES Classic Edition. We talk about how that might relate to the discontinuation of the NES Classic. Blizzard surprised everybody by making StarCraft completely free months before it was supposed to be. And GTA 5 is being used to help train driverless cars.
The Switch is facing some problems. Turns out if yours breaks, you're likely to lose any save data for games. Lesson: try not to break your Switch. Final Fantasy XV's DLC is getting interesting by taking some of the key characters in a different direction. In other news that is not really news. Destiny 2 has been announced. Blizzard is also launching a high-end collectible store. Tetris can help with PTSD and finally there's going to be a My Little Pony tabletop role-playing game. No, seriously.
Nintendo has finally come forward to say the issues with desyncing Joycons for the Switch is actually a manufacturing flaw and not something ridiculous like having an aquarium in your house. Even still, the fix itself is pretty ridiculous. No big game can be released without some sort of controversy and Mass Effect Andromeda is no different. The facial animations don't look so great, so the Internet has exploded in one of the worst ways possible. There's a new Pokemon GO event that will give you a chance to catch water type pokemon even if you don't live anywhere near a body of water. Some new Xbox One controllers are on the way. Overwatch has added a new hero to the game, and you can get involved in the Hearthstone Winter Championship.
Stephen went to PAX East and he talks about the coolest games he saw at the show. Mass Effect Andromeda doesn't come out until March 21, but if you have EA Access you can play it right now. And speaking of Mass Effect some cool Mass Effect gear is coming to Rock Band 4. The Legend of Zelda Symphony has announced dates and locations. Drawn to Death, the brand new game created by David Jaffe will be free to PlayStation Plus members right out of the gate. A bunch of old Disney games are being ported to Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Lots of Zelda fans have thrown a fit over one review by a games journalist. We talk about why that is pretty stupid. Then Stephen goes on about how good Zelda is and Nicole goes on about how good Horizon Zero Dawn is.
We've all been waiting for it, but the time has finally arrived. The Nintendo Switch has been released. But there's more news besides the console itself. Amazon dropped the ball on delivering the consoles big time. Nintendo is touting sales of the Switch being larger than sales of Wii. And then there are the games. We talk about Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and 1,2 Switch. In other non-Switch related news. Sony has thrown their sponsorship to Girls Make Games. Finally we take detour around video games to talk about another Game... Game of Thrones that is. The hype machine for the next season has just launched into gear and we'll give you thoughts and predictions.
In case you hadn't heard, PewDiePie has done something kinda stupid, but it probably won't affect his bottom line. Some big changes are coming to Hearthstone, none of which involve the removal of Reno Jackson. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is going to have a season pass. Who knew? But the way they've outlined the content may have been a mistake. There's a massive Humble Bundle on sale, Amazon is opening a new game studio, and the Microsoft E3 media briefing will now be held at a time when anyone can watch. Also Nicole and Regina geek out about Game of Thrones while Stephen listens in despair.
More Nintendo Swich accessories have sold out. This time it's the new pro controller. Apocalypse Now is going to be a video game, but it's probably going to have some hurdles. The Pokemon Company surprised everyone with a new mobile game. The makers of Ori and the Blind Forest have a lot to say about the PS4 Pro and it's not very good. Square Enix is getting ready to announce something new,and Avalanche Studios has risen from the ashes to work on a Cars 3 game. We talk about how the game's massive appeal is effecting multiple areas of life, from business opportunities to helping people with anxiety brave the world. On the other hand, lots of the negative news around the game is completely blown out of proportion. We give some of those stories a reality check. The game could also mean a new wave of AR gaming.
