A new study published in the journal Antioxidants investigated the effects of luteolin, a natural compound found in plants, on hair graying in mice. The researchers found that both external (topical) and internal (oral) administration of luteolin significantly reduced the number of gray hairs in the mice. The study also revealed that luteolin works by improving the signaling between cells involved in hair pigmentation, ultimately leading to a reduction in hair graying. These findings suggest that luteolin may be a promising natural treatment for hair graying in humans, although further research is needed to confirm these effects.3. “Aging population to hit U.S. economy like a 'ton of bricks',” Reuters reported in 2021. “Aging Is The Real Population Bomb,” the International Monetary Fund cautioned earlier this year. “How an aging population poses challenges for U.S. economy, workforce and social programs,” PBS declared in June. “Why we're borrowing to fund the elderly while neglecting everyone else,” The Washington Post's Catherine Rampell wrote just this past November. Year after year, it seems, American media issues the same warning: The population of the US, due to - among other factors - rising life expectancy and falling birthrates, is getting older, which spells doom for our economy. A graying public, we're told, will inevitably upend the labor force, destroy productivity, bleed programs like Medicare and Social Security dry, and thus place an undue burden on the younger population. But the premises for this panic are based on misleading stats, goofy non-sequiturs, and misdirected faux class warfare. So, why do media keep insisting the olds are out for your hard-earned money? Who gets to shape our understanding of what an aging population actually means economically or socially? How does this narrative shift the burden from the state to the individual in terms of managing retirement benefits and systems of care? And what are the real harms of treating people over the age of 65 like they're a cancer on society? On this episode, we examine the narrative that an aging population is necessarily dire, looking at how it's instrumentalized to gut public benefits for seniors and thus for everyone, advance the financialization of retirement, and reframe the conflict between rich and poor as one between young and old. Our guest is social security expert Nancy Altman.
Recent media coverage of age and politics has been extensive. The average age of members of the Senate is 65 and the average age in the House of Representatives has decreased to 58 years old. This pattern reflects the increasing demographic of baby boomers reaching retirement age.
“We are not getting any younger.” True for any human on this Earth, but especially so when it comes to global demographics. As birth rates fall and life spans expand, the average age of the world population is rising faster than any time in human history. Not surprisingly, this trendline in general population makeup is reflected in workforce demographics. In the U.S., the fastest growing age segment of the workforce is people over 55. So fast is this cohort growing that the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates by 2024, workers over the age of 55 will be the largest segment of the U.S. workforce, a seismic shift from historically being the smallest. And far from a demographic anomaly, the workforce will continue to get “grayer” through at least the year 2060. An aging workforce brings with it structural challenges, but also significant opportunities. Facing low unemployment and looming skills shortages, recruiting and retaining highly experienced and knowledgeable workers represents a key strategy for organizations looking to thrive in an increasingly competitive landscape. An added bonus: age diverse teams have been shown to be more innovative. But to deliver on this potential requires changes in approach; creating a workplace that is welcoming of workers of all ages is a great place to start. This session will explore how smart, intentional workplace strategy and design can help to attract, retain, engage, and empower ALL age groups present in the workforce today.
"Each of us is given the exact same amount of seconds, minutes and hours per day as anyone else. The difference is how we redeem [them]. … You cannot count your days, but you can make your days count.” Billy GrahamAs we finish this "Raising The Standard" series, we are stopping at an important category...and one that the greater society can often neglect. The retirement years, the graying and elderly years; these are important years to see Christ modeled and displayed. For a man in this period of life, he must not assume his experiences do not matter. We need to hear about successes, mistakes and all. He should never just "hang it up" or live out the rest of his days on the golf course. And he should realize how he ends serves as an example to those around him. To see a godly man not compromise and not water down his faith is an amazing thing. To see him finish and pass onto eternity is a testimony to what God has done. Mentioned in this episode:Retirement blues: Taking it too easy can be hard on you article
Today we're going to talk about how heavy metal toxicity can affect your skin. It's the dose that determines the poison. We're all exposed to various toxins and heavy metals, but in low amounts, they won't affect our bodies. There are a lot of different signs of heavy metal toxicity, but I want to cover a few distinct symptoms of heavy metal toxicity to be aware of. One of the best remedies for heavy metal toxicity is distilled water. Try drinking distilled water and then consuming the minerals you need. Potential effects of heavy metals on the skin: 1. Arsenic Arsenic can be found in: • Pressurized wood • Water supply • Insecticides In high amounts, arsenic may lead to: • Hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation • Keratosis Nutrients that help protect against arsenic toxicity: • Selenium • Zinc • Folate • Carotenoids A great natural remedy to help protect against arsenic poisoning: • Spirulina 2. Cadmium Cadmium can be found in: • Spray paint • Tobacco • Shellfish In high amounts, cadmium may lead to: • Yellowing or tanning of the skin • Skin cancer Nutrients that help protect against cadmium toxicity: • Zinc • Antioxidants A great natural remedy to help protect against cadmium poisoning: • NAC 3. Today we're going to talk about the best things to prevent premature graying of your hair. It's natural for your hair to turn gray with age. However, many people are getting gray hair way too early. Even though you may have genes that give you the propensity to get gray hair, there are still things you can do to help prevent your hair from graying prematurely. The pigment in your hair and the enzymes that allow the pigment to occur are both dependent on copper. You could be deficient in copper from not consuming foods high in copper. High levels of stress can also cause a copper deficiency. It's important to do whatever you can to decrease stress and increase copper to prevent gray hair. It may be best to get the copper you need from foods rich in copper rather than a supplement. As you age, you accumulate hydrogen peroxide in the hair shaft. Hydrogen peroxide can cause a bleaching effect on the hair. To slow this accumulation of hydrogen peroxide, you can try consuming foods rich in catalase. Foods high in copper: • Seafood (especially oysters) • Mushrooms • Organic, grass-fed beef liver • Spirulina Foods high in catalase: • Organic, grass-fed beef liver • Vegetables (especially cruciferous vegetables) • Sprouts or microgreens Things to avoid: • Alcohol • Smoking • Junk foods • Sugar • Refined carbs • Low-fat diets
Find out what you can do to prevent premature graying of your hair.

Question: How to slow graying of hairs and potentially reverse it? Short Answer: What works for any given individual will likely be to find the weakest link and fix it, from among the following systems: the signaling of energy abundance (body fat, insulin sensitivity, thyroid hormone, adequate protein, individualized meeting of carbohydrate needs, good management of psychosocial stress, supporting neuroendocrine signaling with copper, vitamin C, zinc, and glycine, and supporting thyroid function with iodine and selenium); the biochemical infrastructure of energy production (all the B vitamins, iron, copper, sulfur, magnesium, potassium, and managing genetic idiosyncrasies impacting energy metabolism), and antioxidant protection (protein, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, copper, selenium, iron, and manganese).
