Mary and Andrew begin this week with the latest in the Trump administration's attempt to send National Guard troops into American cities. From the 9th Circuit comes a 2-1 decision lifting a lower court's temporary block on deployments into Portland, Oregon. Plus: the government has asked the Supreme Court to weigh in on the use of National Guard troops in Chicago. Mary and Andrew analyze the legal repercussions of both, then move to reporting on a Trump administration promise to betray U.S. informants in order to secure a prison deal with El Salvador. And while a week feels like a year these days, the co-hosts review both John Bolton's indictment last Thursday and James Comey's recent motion to dismiss his case based on vindictive and selective prosecution. Before wrapping up this week, Mary and Andrew take a beat on last week's oral arguments before the Supreme Court in Louisiana v Calláis that dealt directly with the Voting Rights Act and whether redrawing districts can be used to remedy disenfranchising voters in Louisiana.Further Listening/Reading: Here is Andrew's conversation with former Special Counsel Jack Smith at an event at UCL in London: The State of the United States: A Conversation with Jack SmithHere is the reporting from The Washington Post Mary and Andrew spoke about: Rubio promised to betray U.S. informants to get Trump's El Salvador prison deal.Want to listen to this show without ads? All this is being swept away to be replaced with a focus on a “warrior ethos.”

It's Friday, October 17th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Chinese college forces students to identify as atheists According to a September 30th report from ChinaAid, a mobile app used by a Chinese vocational school, requires students to declare they're atheists.   The app, used by Tianjin Vocational College of Mechanics and Electricity in China, instructs students to check the box for “no religious belief” in their personal information sections, clearly violating their right to religious freedom.  The report stated that “point 4 under ‘personal information notes' requires filling in ‘no religious belief,' forcing all enrolled students to declare themselves as ‘atheists' or ‘non-believers.'”  The Chinese Communist Party is officially atheist and has a long history of disrespecting and persecuting religious communities, including Christians.  Psalm 14:1 says, “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.'” The Gospel Coalition stated in 2022 that “[President] Xi despises Christianity … [and] fears that religion, especially Christianity, is an attempt by foreign influences to subvert his nation.”   U.S. Special Operations helicopters near Venezuela The U.S. military's elite Special Operations aviation unit appears to have flown in Caribbean waters less than 90 miles from the coast of Venezuela in recent days, reports the Washington Post. According to an unnamed U.S. official, the helicopters were engaged in training exercises that could serve as preparation for expanded conflict against alleged drug traffickers, including potential missions inside Venezuela. Already, the U.S. military has struck at least five boats carrying illegal narcotics in international waters, killing at least 27 drug traffickers. Speaker Johnson & Speaker Ohana back Trump for Nobel Peace Prize On Wednesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson explained why he believed that President Donald Trump is deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize next year. JOHNSON: “I'm proud to tell you that together with my friend, Speaker [Amir] Ohana of the Israeli Knesset, the equivalent of our Congress, we're going to rally speakers and presidents of parliaments around the world so that we will jointly nominate President Donald J. Trump for next year's Nobel Peace Prize. “No one has ever deserved that prize more. And that is an objective fact. It's an indisputable fact that no president has undertaken the work of saving lives and pursuing peace with such determination and with such remarkable success as President Trump. “Under his leadership, we are witnessing the dawn of a new golden age, not just for America, but for the entire free world. The world is changed by these actions and strong leadership. American strength is good for free people around the world, as we say always, and peace through strength is maintained.” Pentagon journalists turn in badges, refusing new Hegseth rules Dozens of Pentagon reporters turned in access badges and exited the War Department on Wednesday rather than agree to government-imposed restrictions on their work, reports the Associated Press. The nation's leadership called the new rules “common sense” to help regulate a “very disruptive” press. News outlets were nearly unanimous in rejecting new rules imposed by War Secretary Pete Hegseth that would leave journalists vulnerable to expulsion if they sought to report on information — classified or otherwise — that had not been approved by Hegseth for release. Homosexual pastor says abortion “helps the life of children” According to a viral video clip, a self-described “queer” Protestant pastor said babies should be killed in the womb so they do not grow up in an “unsupportive” situation, reports LifeSiteNews.com. Kurt Kaufman is a recently “ordained” minister who currently works as a “ministerial associate” at First Baptist Church of Denver. Protestia, which often criticizes liberal Christianity, posted a video of an interview Kaufman gave where he explains why he supports the intentional killing of innocent preborn babies. Listen. KAUFMAN: “Being in favor of reproductive rights [i.e., the destruction of the unborn], first and foremost, protects the life of the mother, and protects the life of the person that is already living, and is the person that is able to bring more life into this world should they choose,” “Furthermore, it protects the life of children. There are so many children that currently exist in this world that were forced to be born because of legislation, because of men that have decided for women. And so as a result, many children have grown up into a unsupportive, unhealthy and right-challenging household that hasn't been a life that any child should live. “And so being in favor of reproductive choice helps the life of children everywhere because they don't have to grow up in a world that dislikes them because they simply exist.” This is why, according to the so-called “minister” it's a good thing to support the killing of babies. But in Proverbs 6:16-19, there are seven things listed that God hates, including “the shedding of innocent blood.” LifeSiteNews asked Kaufman for further information on when the interview occurred, what he would say to the counterargument that society does not kill babies after they are born just because of their circumstances, and at what point he believes preborn babies are human beings who deserve protection from abortion. In a reply email this past Tuesday, Kaufman wrote, “I have no comment to provide.” Not surprisingly, Kaufman's outrageous remarks drew criticism from commentators on X. Scott Dunford wrote, “By his logic every kid born into a bad home situation should be eliminated. This is an evil and godless way of thinking.” And an account called Woke Preacher Clips wrote, “This is psychotic behavior.” Bad Bunny's Super Bowl perverse half time show vs. Turning Point's wholesome patriotic alternative And finally, Super Bowl LX (60) is set for Sunday, February 8, 2026, and will broadcast on NBC with a halftime performance featuring Benito Ocasio known as “Bad Bunny,” a Puerto Rican rapper who has championed sexual perversion, sexual immorality, self-indulgence, and hostility to Immigration Customs and Enforcement. Indeed, Ocasio has said that his sexuality may be fluid. He told Gay Pride, “At the moment, I am heterosexual and I like women, but maybe in 20 years I will like a man.” In his song, Ignorantes, he features sexual perversion, and in his song, Yo Perreo Sola, Ocasio created a disturbing video where he personally dresses and cavorts around in drag. Turning Point USA, the nonprofit created by the late Charlie Kirk and now led by his widow Erika Kirk, announced they will broadcast a wholesome, patriotic alternative that celebrates “faith, family, and freedom.” While event details and scheduled performers are still being determined, you can sign up to receive event information and vote for your preferred music genre at AmericanHalfTimeShow.com. The website again is AmericanHalfTimeShow.com.  And you can add your name to a petition, organized by One Million Moms, to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, chastising him for hiring the sexually immoral rapper “Bad Bunny.” You will find the link in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com. Ephesians 5:11 says, “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Friday, October 17th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Follow us on X or subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music, or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com). Donald Trump has been involved in a series of high-profile court cases recently. One of the most notable cases is the Supreme Court case _Donald J. Trump, President of the United States, et al., Petitioners v. V.O.S. Selections, Inc., et al._, which was docketed on September 4, 2025, and is currently set for argument in the first week of November 2025. This case, along with another, has been consolidated for briefing and oral argument, with the court allotting a total of one hour for the argument. In another development, President Trump has been at the center of a legal dispute involving the deployment of federalized troops to Portland, Oregon. On September 27, 2025, Trump posted on Truth Social that he was directing Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of War, to provide troops to protect Portland from perceived threats such as Antifa and other domestic terrorists. This led the State of Oregon and the City of Portland to file a lawsuit against Trump, Hegseth, and other administration officials, alleging that their actions were unlawful and violated the Posse Comitatus Act.The lawsuit resulted in a temporary restraining order being granted, with the plaintiffs arguing that the deployment of troops was unauthorized and an overreach of executive power. The case highlights ongoing tensions between the federal government and local authorities regarding the use of military troops for domestic law enforcement purposes.Additionally, the Trump administration has faced legal challenges from various states, including Illinois, which recently sued over plans to deploy federalized troops. This ongoing litigation reflects broader debates about the limits of executive authority and the role of federal forces in domestic affairs. The dynamic nature of these legal battles underscores the complex and often contentious relationship between the Trump administration and the judiciary, with numerous cases reaching the highest levels of the U.S. court system.Thank you for tuning in today. Today's Headlines: We're now on day 16 of the government shutdown, and Republican leaders are hinting it could drag on until Thanksgiving — casually blaming holiday travel chaos while admitting they're not even thinking about reopening the government. Meanwhile, OMB Director Russell Vought says the administration plans to fire 10,000 federal workers, though a federal judge just ruled they can't do that during a shutdown. While public employees go unpaid, the administration is finding cash for others — promising a “clever and generous” $10 billion bailout for farmers hit by the trade war with China once the shutdown ends, and another $20 billion to prop up Argentina's crumbling economy. Priorities! At the Pentagon, dozens of journalists turned in their press badges rather than sign Pete Hegseth's “state media” pledge requiring them to only report what the Defense Department approves — a move even Fox wouldn't touch. Over at the Supreme Court, justices heard a major case that could gut the Voting Rights Act by striking down race-based map protections — potentially flipping a dozen Democratic House seats in the South right before the 2026 midterms. Meanwhile, an Ohio GOP congressman's office was found to have a flag featuring a swastika intertwined with the American flag visible on a Zoom call. He blamed it on “vandalism,” because apparently random Nazi décor just appears in people's offices now. And finally, the yacht formerly known as the Lady Ghislaine — once owned by Robert Maxwell (yes, Ghislaine's dad) and now Rupert Murdoch's ex-wife's — caught fire in D.C. yesterday. Today's Headlines: Hamas returned the bodies of four more Israeli hostages after Israel accused them of dragging their feet on the peace deal and threatened to slash humanitarian aid. Two American hostages' remains are still missing. Trump's foreign policy victory lap took a turn when he threatened to cut aid to Argentina if voters don't reelect his ally Javier Milei—right after the U.S. basically bailed out Argentina's economy. Meanwhile, the U.S. military struck another “drug boat” off Venezuela, killing six, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth tried (and failed) to force journalists to sign gag agreements for Pentagon access—OANN was the only one to comply. Over at DHS, Secretary Kristi Noem produced an airport PSA blaming Democrats for the government shutdown, violating the Hatch Act so hard that airports are refusing to air it. Trump posthumously gave the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Charlie Kirk, then revoked visas for six foreigners who allegedly mocked his death. A leak of 28,000 messages from Young Republican leaders exposed months of racist, antisemitic, and violent rants—including one participant who works in the Trump administration. In Pennsylvania, the man who set Governor Josh Shapiro's house on fire pleaded guilty to attempted murder and arson. And in Alaska, a typhoon killed at least one and displaced over 1,400 people, while OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that ChatGPT will now allow erotica for verified adults. Listen to this episode commercial free at https://angryplanetpod.comThe episode is about Vanessa Guillén, a US soldier who was murdered at Fort Hood in 2020. She also experienced sexual harassment while in the military. I spoke with ABC Special Correspondent John Quiñones about his new podcast, Vanished. It's a good podcast that covers Guillén's case in-depth and highlights the reforms the Pentagon instituted after. We recorded the show on September 30, Guillén's birthday. That morning, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth delivered a long speech about his own military reforms. Many of the changes Hegseth has pushed through conflict with the changes that Guillén's death ushered in.As such, I thought it was important to get John's reaction to Hegseth's speech. Before we began recording,I told him I planned to ask him about this and he agreed to talk about it.When I asked the question during recording, a public relations person from ABC jumped on the line and asked me to stop talking about Hegseth. I pushed back, but not hard enough. The next day, ABC PR reached out via email to ask if I would cut this moment from the show.I will not. It's included here in full. Further, I want to take a moment at the top to highlight the reasons why I brought up Hegseth's speech. There's a lot to it and, honestly, it demands its own episode. Here are Hegseth's thoughts on toxic leaders.“Today, at my direction, we're undertaking a full review of the Department's Definitions of so-called toxic leadership, bullying and hazing, to empower leaders to enforce standards without fear of retribution or second guessing. Of course, you can't do, like nasty bullying and hazing. We're talking about words like bullying and hazing and toxic. They've been weaponized and bastardized inside our formations, undercutting commanders and NCOs. No more. Setting, achieving, and maintaining high standards is what you all do. And if that makes me toxic, then so be it.”Guillén's case also changed the way the Army investigates sexual harassment. Here are the secretary's thoughts on the current state of official internal military investigations:“We are overhauling an inspector-general process, the IG that has been weaponized, putting complainers, ideologues and poor performers in the driver's seat. We're doing the same with the Equal Opportunity and Military Equal Opportunity policies, the EO and MEO, at our department. No more frivolous complaints, no more anonymous complaints, no more repeat complaints, no more smearing reputations, no more endless waiting, no more legal limbo, no more side-tracking careers, no more walking on eggshells. “Of course, being a racist has been illegal in our formation since 1948. The same goes for sexual harassment. Both are wrong and illegal. Those kinds of infractions will be ruthlessly enforced.”After the speech, Hegseth signed 11 memos that detailed these changes. I'll link them in the show notes. The memos say that the military's definition of “harassment” is overly broad, calls for the end of “anonymous complaints”—something Hegesth also said in his speech, and asks that investigations be completed quickly with the assistance of artificial intelligence.I believe that is all important context for this episode. I also believe that Hegseth's speech and the policy directives represent a regression in the American armed services. I will not pretend otherwise.Listen to the All-New ‘Vanished: What Happened to Vanessa' PodcastSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/warcollege. Hosted on Acast. Airports REFUSE To Air Kristi Noem's Disgusting Lies To Passengers

Farron Balanced Daily

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 15, 2025 20:43

Multiple airports across the country are refusing to air a lie-filled video message from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem where she blames the government shutdown on Democrats in Congress. TSA employees said that passengers were sickened by the message that she recorded, as were airport employees. Noem is trying to use the shutdown to hurt Democrats, much like Trump, but their efforts are failing as most Americans squarely blame the Party in charge - The Republicans - for the shutdown. While surrounded by leaders from across the globe in Egypt on Monday celebrating a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, Donald Trump decided that this would be the perfect time to publicly humiliate the Prime Minister of Italy. But unlike usual, he didn't do it by insulting her - he did it by getting overly creepy with his compliments of her. He talked about how beautiful she is and even admitted that he shouldn't be saying that. The worst part is that this isn't even the first time he's done this with her - or the second. The deadline for media outlets to sign onto Pete Hegseth's new, First Amendment-violating press requirements hit this week, and most media outlets surprisingly refused to sign on. What's even more shocking than learning that some outlets still have remnants of a spine is that even pro-Trump MAGA media outlets are also refusing to give in to these demands. Newsmax announced that they would not be signing the agreement, putting their credentials at risk along with the rest of the media. This is a small stand, but it is one that should be celebrated.Donald Trump's political prosecution of James Comey is off to a much worse start than expected, as the judge overseeing the case has already dealt a fairly crushing blow to the prosecutors. Prosecutors had requested that the deadline for turning over their discovery (evidence) be extended to give them more time, but the judge absolutely refused to do it, suggesting that if they had the evidence they claim to have then it should already be ready to go. The judge knows EXACTLY what's going on, and that's going to end poorly for the prosecutionText and and let us know your thoughts on today's stories!Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media!
