This past week, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth addressed top U.S. commanders at the Marine Base in Quantico, Virginia, calling for a renewed focus on discipline and elevated standards in basic training. He complained that the military has spent the past few years putting too much focus on being “politically correct” or “woke”. He announced that the mindset was coming to an end. Earlier this week, Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Bob Maginnis joined FOX News Rundown host Dave Anthony to share his take on the speech and weigh in on Sec. Hegseth's plan to restore higher military standards. Maginnis agreed with the need to focus less on ‘political correctness' and put more emphasis on readiness. The military analyst also discusses the multiple global threats our military is facing and how our country must adapt to the coming national security threats that artificial intelligence advancements will bring. We often have to cut interviews short during the week, but we thought you might like to hear the full interview. Today on Fox News Rundown Extra, we will share our entire interview with Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Bob Maginnis. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

After Republicans refuse to negotiate with Democrats on extending Affordable Care Act subsidies, the government shuts down. Dan and Alex Wagner, Pod Save America's newest contributor, discuss what Democrats will need to do to hold the line; Project 2025 architect Russ Vought's attacks on blue states and federal employees; and the Democratic-Republican messaging fight that's devolved into an AI-fueled meme war. Then, the two break down Trump's threats — and Hegseth's grievances — at an unprecedented meeting of the military's top brass, Trump's new political demands for universities, and some much-needed good news about free speech, Fed Chair Lisa Cook, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Michael Wolff, author of four books chronicling Trump, joins the Beast's Joanna Coles to reveal Trump's madman plan for the government shutdown. Wolff explains how Trump turns congressional gridlock into an existential battle of dominance, using fear, chaos, and pain as weapons. From Military leaders frozen in place by Trump and Pete Hegseth's humiliating lecture to Trump's ostentatious White House ballroom construction, this episode exposes Trump's desperation to be respected. They outline how an unpredictable president turns a bureaucratic stalemate over the government's budget into a personal war, and exactly how he thinks he can win. Hosted on Acast. Can Trump's Gaza peace plan actually work? Sarah and Beth break down the 20-point proposal and why Netanyahu is finally feeling the heat. They discuss what's changed—from polling on Israel to Ukraine's drone warfare lessons—and whether this administration's transactional approach might accidentally deliver lasting peace. Why are so few panicking about the government shutdown? With funding lapsed and Congress in recess, Beth and Sarah explore the "giant shrug" response from those not directly affected and whether crying wolf has made actual shutdowns feel disminished. They debate Democratic strategy on healthcare protections, discuss the problem with shutdown threats, and propose what a genuine budget process reform could look like. What happened when Pete Hegseth called 800 generals to Quantico? Sarah and Beth dissect the defense secretary's retreat featuring Christian nationalism, complaints about "fat" people in the military, and Trump's "enemy within" rhetoric. They work through the tension of taking legitimate military critiques seriously while resisting the administration's trap of making everything a partisan thunderdome—and why the calm response from cities with National Guard deployments offers a better model. Trump shut down the government, then tried to hand Democrats the bill like a drunk guy bailing on dinner. Spoiler: nobody's buying it. Meanwhile, Pete Hegseth waddled into Quantico expecting a standing ovation and got the sound of crickets filing a noise complaint. Two disasters, one week — and Rick's got the receipts. Brad and Dan examine Pete Hegseth's recent gathering of generals, critiquing his “warrior ethos” rhetoric and highlighting the dangers of his speech that attacked DEI, questioned due process in sexual assault cases, and called for stricter religious and fitness standards in the military. They unpack his fat-shaming and fabricated claims, contrasting leadership with rulership in both Hegseth's and Trump's approaches, which lean on power rather than genuine leadership. The discussion expands to Trump's disturbing remarks about using American cities as military training grounds and framing citizens as enemies, alongside analysis of Project 2025, the looming government shutdown, and Russ Vought's strategy targeting blue states. Brad and Dan also spotlight Judge William G. Young's strong defense of pro-Palestinian speech and his rebuke of Trump's attacks on free expression. With themes of authoritarianism, executive overreach, and the critical role of resistance, the hosts call on listeners to stay informed, resist normalization of these tactics, and engage in the ongoing fight for democracy. This past week Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth boldly proclaimed that the US Military will now disregard the rules of war so that the war fighter can do what he is trained to do...kill and win. For many Americans these comments were about returning to a strong military that seeks to win. The truth is very different. The United States is bankrupt. We are no longer the world's primary super power. We are also in a moment of massive economic and cultural change. Hegseth's comments were a warning to the world to not attack, as we retract from our global footprint and assume our new diminished position as part of a multi-polar world. #BardsFM #EmpireInDecline #EverythingThatCanBeShaken Bards Nation Health Store: www.bardsnationhealth.com BardsFM CAP, Celebrating 50 Million Downloads: https://ambitiousfaith.net Morning Intro Music Provided by Brian Kahanek: www.briankahanek.com MYPillow promo code: BARDS Go to https://www.mypillow.com/bards and use the promo code BARDS or... We're a few days into a government shutdown, but James, Steve, and Charles are managing to get by. So it's business as usual as the trio pick apart the oddities of the week: Democrats attempt to dodge responsibility for their own filibuster; OMB's Russ Vought gets to work on his master plan; the Secretary of War stands accused of fat-shaming his generals; a man named Jihad does the unthinkable in Manchester; the Chicago Teachers' Union mourns the passing of a '70s cop-killer; and Hollywood resists the rise of digitally diverse actors.Sound from this week's opening: Pete Hegseth speaks in Quantico, listing practices that the military is "done with" going forward.

America's been duped, Trump and his lapdog Pete Hegseth are shoving us headfirst into wars for Israel, waving the flag of patriotism while our borders collapse and J6 heroes languish in gulags. Wake up, patriots, this ain't your grandfather's America it's a Zionist war factory, and your sons and daughters are the cannon fodder. The D.C. swamp is at it again, staging fake budget fights to distract you while they funnel your money to their pedophile pals and foreign wars! It's time to wake up, stop funding their crimes, and defund this unconstitutional, corrupt government for good! This week, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump ranted to the assembled leadership of the U.S. armed forces about fitness, wokeness and the "war within." Hegseth told the generals and admirals that they were too fat, while low energy Trump gave a rambling speech about many things that included using American cities a "training grounds" for military operations. The brass didn't seem amused. In our latest, we give a history of military dissent and civilian-military relations from the Vietnam War era to the Iraq war and talk about Generals David Shoup, Anthony Zinni and Eric Shinseki. We also get into the politics of Trum, Hegseth and today's Pentagon. ——
Today on Mea Culpa, I'm joined by Dave Aronberg, former Palm Beach County State Attorney, legal analyst, and fellow MeidasTouch contributor. We dig into how Trump is reshaping the political battlefield, from lying about the cause of the government shutdown to staging a military stunt with Pete Hegseth for pure political theater. We break down how he weaponizes immigration debates, twisting health care and border policy into soundbites, while Democrats can struggle to cut through with clear messaging. Aronberg and I also examine Trump's push to bend the National Guard and the courts to his will, and what James Comey's indictment signals about accountability in a system under strain. The first eight months of the second Trump administration have been headlined by several prominent cabinet members: Marco Rubio, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Pete Hegseth, Kristi Noem, Scott Bessent and Pam Bondi, among others. These agency leaders have undertaken wide-ranging initiatives to carry out the president's agenda, drawing regular coverage and analysis of their actions. But other department heads have also been shaping policies, implementing programs, and making consequential decisions — often without the same degree of media attention.Today, we're going to devote a two-part edition to ten Trump administration leaders whose work does not always grab headlines but touches on key issues like agriculture, housing policy, labor, international aid, the environment, and more. In Tangle fashion, we'll give an overview of their core initiatives, what supporters and critics are saying, and the issues we think will define the remainder of their time in office.Ad-free podcasts are here! Co-hosts Jared Yates Sexton and Nick Hauselman break down the bizarre Trump–Hegseth meeting with America's top generals. Instead of commanding respect, Trump rambled through grievances and half-baked ideas while Hegseth postured and pandered, leaving serious military leaders unimpressed. We explore the dangerous implications of a president alienating his own brass, how authoritarian rhetoric collides with sheer incompetence, and why this moment opens up a host of unsettling outcomes. Along the way we look at the government shutdown, a self-defeating Argentina bailout, and the larger picture of American decline before closing with some culture picks. [00:30] Military Fitness (35 minutes) President Trump and War Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the military is returning to basic, common sense fitness standards in a speech before hundreds of generals and admirals yesterday. After years of “wokeness,” portions of the military became overweight, transgender and socialist. Hegseth said even the generals will need to pass a physical fitness test because “it's completely unacceptable to see fat generals … it's a bad look.” [38:00] Violence in Our Nations (17 minutes) The Feast of Tabernacles pictures the soon-coming Millennium—a time when the government of God will be administered throughout the Earth and peace will be permanent. The chain of violent events over the past few weeks emphasizes the urgent need for the realization of God's holy days!

Story of the Week (DR):War against women continues: Uber Not Responsible for Sex Assault, Jury Finds, as More Cases FollowEthan P. Schulman, the judge presiding over the California state court cases, told jurors that Uber would be responsible for the woman's harm if the company was negligent in using adequate safety measures and the negligence was a “substantial factor” in causing the harm.In its decision, the jury unanimously agreed that Uber had been negligent in its general safety practices when the incident occurred in 2016 — but that the negligence was not a substantial factor in causing the attack. What were the military standards in 1990? And if they have changed, tell me why. Was it necessary change based on the evolving landscape of combat? Or was the change due to a softening, weakening, or gender-based pursuit of other priorities? 1990s seems to be as good a place to start as any."PGA of America CEO apologizes for Ryder Cup missteps, but group's president denies problemThe Misogynistic Abuse Towards Rory McIlroy's Wife at the Ryder Cup Is Deeper Than Golf. CannCon and Alpha Warrior break down Pete Hegseth's fiery address at the Pentagon and President Trump's uncompromising call to restore America's military. From tearing out DEI and climate cult nonsense to reinstating hard PT tests, real boot camp ass-whoopings, and merit-based promotions, this episode digs into what a true warfighting force should look like. The hosts debate modern combat, proxy wars, guerrilla threats, and the Deep State's manipulation of global conflicts, all while swapping raw stories from their own service. With humor, blunt honesty, and no patience for fat generals or weak standards, CannCon and Alpha deliver a veteran's perspective on rebuilding a lethal, disciplined, and unapologetically American military.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered top military officials to DC for a surprise lecture on the "warrior ethos." Chaos ensued. With Hegseth, it usually does. This episode was produced by Ariana Aspuru and Devan Schwartz, edited by Amina Al-Sadi, fact-checked by Laura Bullard, engineered by Patrick Boyd and Adriene Lilly, and hosted by Noel King. Retired Lieutenant General Mark Hertling joins the Beast's Hugh Dougherty to unpack the jaw-dropping spectacle at Quantico, where Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth addressed 800 top military leaders. Hertling breaks down how Military brass in the room really reacted when Trump rambled on about “dangerous cities” as training grounds, mocked rules of engagement, and praised a random World War II documentary made in the 50s. Hertling pulls no punches, calling the speeches “berating,” “embarrassing,” and dangerously out of touch with modern military standards. He explains why generals were silent, what U.S. allies and adversaries are thinking, and the legal and constitutional risks of Trump's orders. From the impact on troop morale to how Russia is exploiting the chaos, Hertling offers an inside look at a Commander-in-Chief unlike any before, and what it means for the military and the nation. For this week's Slate Plus bonus episode, John, David, and guest host Juliette Kayyem discuss the ugly spectacle of US golf fan behavior at this week's Ryder Cup and what it says about the state of American public discourse. In the latest Gabfest Reads, Emily talks with author and Yale professor Judith Resnik about her new book, Impermissible Punishments: How Prison Became a Problem for Democracy. This week, Jason Kander is joined by Paul Rieckhoff, founder and executive director of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, who is subbing in as host while Ravi travels, to break down Trump's disastrous speech in front of military generals after Pete Hegseth's “Warrior Ethos” address at Quantico, where senior commanders were summoned from across the world and greeted the remarks with stone-cold silence. They analyze Hegseth's social-media boast—“Today, we end the War on Warriors”—the awkward pauses when he expected applause, and the eerie lack of reaction from those in attendance. Kander and Rieckhoff also dive into Trump's rambling, partisan remarks that were wholly inappropriate for a military audience — including his calls to prepare military leadership to accept the use of combat troops against American citizens — and the deep questions that raises about civil-military norms. Plus, they explain the fallout from the government shutdown that began at midnight, which agencies remain open for essential functions, the White House's warning to agencies to prepare for mass firings, and what that uncertainty could mean for ordinary people.
