I was probably about your age then. ‘I can learn this,' and I did.” - Cathy King [20:30] “You have to pat yourself on the back because I don't think people get what you do, and it's like that with a lot of things. 127: Removing Fear from Allopathic Cancer Care through Holistic Support - with Cathy Biase

BiOptimizers - Awesome Health Podcast

No one escapes the cancer conversation.  Everyone gets touched by cancer at some point. The latest statistics say 1 out of every 2 of us will experience cancer either directly or through a loved one diagnosed with cancer.  The word “cancer” brings immediate fear to people. Some don’t even want to speak the word and say “the c-word” or “the big-c” instead.  Our guest Cathy Biase knows firsthand the fears people struggle through when they get a cancer diagnosis, go through allopathic treatments, and then return to their previous life once it’s over. Cathy has been through this herself, but she is also a Certified Professional Cancer Coach. She specializes in the functional application of nutrition to get to the root cause of health issues whenever possible to improve chronic disease. Cathy focuses primarily on helping people going through cancer care. Her goal is to optimize her client’s ability to heal and recover.  Many of Cathy’s clients who are doing chemotherapy ask her if the chemo is working because they report that they don’t feel that bad. This is precisely what Cathy loves to hear because it captures what her mission is all about - helping people reduce their fears and getting through allopathic cancer treatments feeling better than expected.  Cathy is the host of a radio show called The Health Hub that is also available as a podcast, where she and her guests talk about integrative health. Cathy also teaches at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition.  Cathy educates people on nutritional support for cancer patients, managing side effects of allopathic cancer care, and the Microbiome’s link to health and immunity.   In this podcast, we cover: How Cathy helps people psychologically move through the various stages from diagnoses to healing The importance of the microbiome for cancer recovery Cathy’s “low stress” approach to nutrition and food prep for cancer patients The role of exercise in a cancer patient’s recovery Cathy’s approach to detoxification, particularly the liver as preparation for chemotherapy More on Cathy’s science-based approach to “stacking the deck your favor” before, during, and after cancer treatment The diagnosis that shaped her destiny Cathy spent the early years of her career working in business, including a small family business. Soon after that business was closed down, Cathy noticed a lump in her breast.  She was quickly diagnosed with breast cancer.  When Cathy went to her gym to tell them she would be pulling back her membership — something profound occurred: three people she knew at this gym strongly encouraged her not to give up exercise - despite the doctors’ advice to cut out her activity. Her friends said, “you are not going to do that. We need you to exercise. We want you to take these supplements.” Suddenly, Cathy had three people working with her in three different areas. This coaching made a significant impact on her, as her cancer treatments went incredibly well.  Cathy noticed that many others who were getting chemotherapy along with her did not have as smooth of an experience. One lady ended up in the hospital, which prompted Cathy to analyze why her treatment went better than others.  Cathy went back to school and earned a certification with the national association of professional cancer coaches. Her new journey to helping other people deal with cancer was underway.  What does Cathy, the nutritionist, recommend for a cancer patient’s diet? Cathy understands that each person is unique and has unique needs. So she starts there.  The foundation of her nutritional approach to cancer care is the microbiome. She helps educate her clients on what the microbiome is, how it affects your health, and how to take care of it. The microbiome is something doctors still are not attending to, and many are not any more knowledgeable about it than most laypeople.  Cathy also gets her clients to increase their fiber intake, begin eating (or increase) the intake of fermented foods and add more color into their diet. She also likes to add probiotics if possible. Be sure to discuss these factors between the patient and their doctor before implementation.  The proper time to eat is also a part of Cathy’s coaching. She also talks with each client about body cycles and circadian rhythms.  There is so much more to Cathy’s cancer coaching - you need to listen to this episode to get all the nuggets of wisdom she brings to this topic. If you know someone facing a cancer diagnosis, please share this podcast episode with them. Cathy makes a difference in the lives of those she serves.  Cathy also has a ton of tips on ways you can “stack the deck” in your favor to avoid a cancer diagnosis. Be sure to tune it. Wade asks all the right questions, and this conversation is quite encouraging despite the “scary” topic! Relationships! Let's Talk About It with Pripo Teplitsky

Whether we’re in the dating stage or have been married for many years, there are many ways that we conduct self-defeating behaviors that can undermine our relationships. Some of these behaviors are so deeply rooted in our history that it can become challenging to uncover. Yet, it is human to have self-sabotaging tendencies, stresses Cathy Courtenay, a Conscious Relating Coach who guides people through connecting with themselves. With all our complexities and nuances, it may look impossible to form intimate relationships; but, through self-awareness and healing work, Cathy stresses it is possible to overcome our inclinations to sabotage and create healthy, fulfilling relationships. In this episode, Cathy and I discuss the many ways we sabotage ourselves in our relationships, uncover their underlying causes, and share advice on how they can be managed. We also highlight the role of self-esteem and self-awareness in cultivating intimacy in relationships and healing self-sabotaging patterns.   “If you are self-sabotaging in your relationship to a point where it creates harm and damage, there may be a trigger from your past that needs to be looked at.” - Cathy Courtenay   This week on Relationships! How they’ve worked together in other projects prior to Mullen Memory, such as the science fair. Cathy went to Princeton and Alex went to John Hopkins. They are now medical students at the University of Mississippi. They weren’t as successful with applying the memory techniques to their studies in the beginning. They both made refinements in order to help them apply the memorization skills to learning their class material while at med school. Take notes on how they’re memorizing the information in university. Now they think through the concepts first before applying a memory technique. The memory palace helps them with their critical thinking. Even when using memory techniques, you still need to review the information while studying. How Cathy and Alex Mullen use the memory techniques when memorizing Anatomy Digestive Tract – Foregut, Midgut, Hindgut They stored and encoded the foregut references on the ceiling. Celiac Nerve = ceiling. Vagus Nerve = Vegas Sign on ceiling. Foregut = the number 4 or a forearm. We talked about creating memory palaces and how to use locations in order to memorize the school material to make studying easier. We discussed whether or not they reuse locations and memory palaces to learn new information along the same path that they’ve created associations for already using that path. In continuation with the Digestive tract. Midgut: Superior Mesenteric Artery = Lionel Messi Celebrating. HindGut: Inferior Mesenteric Artery = Messi injured. How they memorize pharmacology material. Pelvic Nerve = Elvis (pelvic thrust) Do they ever reuse images for other things that might have similar sounding words associated with the med terms. Pharmacology Examples - Penicillin: Amoxicillin = Ammo Shells. Side effects for Penicillin - Hypersensitivity reaction = Donald Trump Bio-Chemistry Medical Terminology – Aspartate, Glycine, Glutamine, THF (Tetrahydrofolate) Aspartate = Asphalt Glycine = Ice Glutamine = Glutes THF = Four Foals (horses) Spaced repetition study software: Anki – http://www.AnkiSRS.net Quizlet – http://www.Quizlet.com Great Time Management and Productivity Method: Pomodoro Technique This study tip technique requires the student to study for a set period of time without distractions and then take a break for about 5 minutes in which Alex recommends that you reward yourself during that time. He likes to read a book or watch videos during his breaks. After a few homework study times and breaks sets, you want to then take an extended break for about 15 minutes before starting the cycle over again. Another tip for success in Med School is to create and keep a consistent daily schedule. On today’s episode of Just the Tips, Dean and I bury the hatchet and actually compliment each other at the start of the show. Maybe we’re on our best behavior because we have Cathy Olson on the show. Cathy is a pro at making funnels look pretty, rather than simply functional. Her company name, Funnel Gorgeous, says it all. And on today’s show, she talks with us about why marketing so often clashes with design, why focusing on design can really make your funnels stand out, and how good design does sell. You don’t want to miss this episode. Bridging design and marketing Cathy came from the design world to the marketing world, and has found that the two sides don’t always get along. In fact, as she says, there’s this idea out there that ugly things sell, and that if you’re creating a funnel the only thing that matters is whether it gets your lead to conversion as quickly as possible. But with her company Funnel Gorgeous, Cathy has been able to merge design and marketing to make funnels that convert because they are so beautiful, which allows them to really stand out. Design matters There’s an idea out there that “ugly sells.” If you look at a lot of top performing funnels, they’ll often put form way over function, and their creators may even tell you that the funnel performs better with an ugly design. But what Cathy has found is that the story you’re telling and the offer you’re presenting, it doesn’t have to trump design. In fact, if you work with a good designer, they will be able to highlight what makes your story sing, and you’ll get even better results. What makes a great design? I had to ask Cathy, what makes a good design? And she had a great, quick answer for me: A good design is something that reflects the quality of the person or product you’re designing for, and which appeals to the audience you’re attempting to reach. And she differentiates art and design by pointing out that design is really a solution-based art. It’s in service to the copy and to your offer, says Cathy, but it’s also the first thing a potential customer is going to notice. Principles of good design Cathy rejected out of hand my question to list off some good design principles. Something about her having to distill years of design school into two minutes on a podcast, but nevertheless she did offer up some great advice for listeners. The first rule, she said, is that the offer has to be immediately understandable and readable for the audience. They can’t wonder for half a second what they’re looking at or what your message is. You also have to think through the “cadence” of your content, how your potential customer is going to experience it and make sure it’s organized in a way that makes sense. Ep 51: How to Build Trust With Your Social Media Followers

Christy Wright's Business Boutique

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 10, 2018 74:08

The Importance of Social Media Followers  I recently read that over 50 million businesses use Facebook Pages to connect with their customers.(1) 50 million?! These business are tapping into something powerful. They understand the value of connecting with their customers directly and using social media followers to build and expand their brand. In essence, they understand the importance of a building a tribe—a group of people who love you, are loyal to your brand, and who trust you. Your tribe is made up of the people who buy your product when you launch a pre-sale. They are the first people to mention your name (or better yet, give someone your business card) to refer your service. Your tribe is bought into your business because they’re bought into you and what you stand for. One of the best ways to build a tribe is to provide a place for them to connect and engage with you and your brand. Social media provides you with the space to build a relationship with your customers, make a personal impact, and ultimately make money. This isn’t strictly a numbers game. My friend Rachel Hollis once said, “5,000 dedicated social media followers are way better than having millions and millions.” It doesn’t matter how many social media followers you have—if they don’t trust you, they aren’t going to buy from you. Successful Brands Build Trust People buy from those they know, like and trust. So, it’s pretty important to build trust with your tribe of social media followers. Related : How to Sell Without Feeling Slimy But how do we get people to trust our brand or business? One of my favorite examples of a brand that has built trust is our company, Ramsey Solutions. Dave Ramsey grew this business and brand over decades through personal connection. About six years ago, he realized he needed to start thinking about the future and the succession of his company. From the very beginning, it had been just him. But he realized that if he wanted to take it to the next level and scale beyond himself, he needed to make a few changes. He knew that the best brands build trust. And the best way to build trust is through people. Brands don’t change people, people change people. He realized we needed more people who could take more messages into more markets. That’s how the Ramsey Personalities were born! For more than 25 years, Dave Ramsey has been building trust with his tribe—one person at a time. The same can be true for you and me. If you want to make an impact, and if you want to make money, you need to build trust. Building a Social Media Following That Trusts You  I personally feel so connected to all of my social media followers. We may have never met, but I pride myself on the fact that I know you trust me. I have read so many comments on my social media posts and met so many people in grocery stores, airports, and book signings who say, “I feel like we’re best friends.” Y’all, that’s important to me. I want you to feel like you know me. That you relate with me. That I get you. (Because I do!) Business Boutique has grown as I’ve expanded the number of people in our tribe who genuinely know, like and trust me. In this episode, I want to help you connect and engage with your social media followers in a way that builds trust. We’re going to discuss: How to inspire people with your success and connect through your struggles. When to tell people what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. Why being consistent is one of the most crucial things you can do in your business. How to stop being a doormat and still be generous with what you have to offer. The ultimate way to lean into your gifts and be YOU! Building trust with your social media followers is no different than building trust with any other person in your life. That’s why I’m going to give you five tips to help you build trust that will impact your social media followers and, ultimately, your bottom line! Why Consistently Showing Up for Your Social Media Followers Builds the Best Relationships With Jennifer Allwood  Jennifer Allwood is a powerhouse business coach for creative business owners and host of The Jennifer Allwood Show Podcast. I met Jennifer Allwood at a Business Boutique event and am thrilled that she will be a breakout speaker at our fall 3-Day Business Boutique Event! In this episode, Jennifer Allwood and I talk about: How you don’t have to be the best at business, you just have to be the best at marketing your business. Why being consistent on social media and building trust is key for small business owners. The best ways to serve your social media followers, build connection, provide value, and show up for them. Why mixing your home and work life isn’t a bad thing for social media. We all have dreams to be successful in business, and our guest Cathy Savage has managed to rise to the top of two completely different industries: fitness and network marketing. On top of that, she’s helped Kim (that’s my wife – you can find her in our Fr-Date episodes every Friday) and I build our own multiple six figures business.   So how was Cathy able to make lightning strike twice, creating two multi-million dollar businesses? Let’s find out.   In This Conversation We Cover: [3:50] Cathy’s childhood & the profound impact her dad has had on her life [7:15] How Cathy is empowering her children today [9:20] What Cathy Savage fitness is & why she started it [12:10] How Cathy predicts & identifies trends (like being the first to offer virtual fitness coaching) [14:30] Disrupting the fitness industry – twice [19:05] Why gratitude is such a powerful leadership skill [22:25] The components of a champion, in fitness or business [24:10] Building a network marketing business [32:30] When playing hard gets hard to do [39:50] How Cathy drowns out the noise & resets the hard drive [43:40] Questions from the audience   The Most Important Skill for Entrepreneurs   Cathy is a phenomenal business person, there’s no doubt about that – but part of the reason she has been so successful as an entrepreneur is due to when she came up with her ideas.   Cathy believes that “any entrepreneur has to have the ability to sense a need before everyone else does, and they have to solve that need before some people even see there is a need.”   If you can identify a need and then offer a solution, nothing will hold you back in business.   Coaching Makes Champions   And if you don’t have that skill already, there is still hope – you can learn!   People often ask for quick hacks or the secret sauce to success, but they don’t always love the answer: “The secret sauce is to be open and coachable to someone who has been there and done that.”   Resources: Learn more at http://cathysavage.com/ (cathysavage.com) Connect with Cathy: https://www.facebook.com/SavageFitness (Facebook) | Twitter

A few months ago, I had the honor of being a guest on Cathy Heller’s podcast, Don’t Keep Your Day Job, and I am thrilled that I get to have her on mine. Not only could I talk to her for hours and hours, but she has an incredible story that I know so many of you will resonate with.  From early on, Cathy knew she was meant for more and sought to find her purpose in the world (she admits there were multiple attempts). She changed her major to World Religions to truly find out if there was “more,” and ended up taking a life-changing three-year trip to Jerusalem. After returning, Cathy moved to L.A. to see if she could make a career out of her love for singing and music. It took a lot of work, but she eventually landed a record deal. Unfortunately, her record label dropped her before it even had a chance to release. Feeling defeated at first, she bailed on the music and landed herself other “practical” jobs ranging from real estate and casting to floral and interior design. None of these fulfilled her though and she set out determined to find other ways to make money singing and songwriting – and help others at the same time.   Fast-forward to today and you’ve likely heard Cathy’s songs on your favorite TV shows, ads and more. She cracked the code to making money while fulfilling her purpose and now helps others do the same. In the past year, Cathy has taken it to another level as well by creating her podcast, which takes her knowledge and easily parallels it to anyone else’s passion project.   Cathy keeps it real and is the first to say that no one wants to see perfect – they want authenticity. Once you listen, I know you’ll agree. Tune in to hear all the goodness Cathy shares with us. I know that you’ll wrap up your listening session feeling just a little lighter and like you’re one small step closer to stepping into your purpose.   --      Question Highlights: Can you tell us a bit about your background and your journey that led you to where you are now? What pulled you to keep going through the various stage of your career/life? How do we get people involved and excited? Outreach leads to some of the same questions when it comes to content too, right? What do you say to someone who struggles with perfection?   In This Episode We Talk about: Cathy’s life and career journey that led her to where she is today The many attempts made by Cathy to find her purpose – record deals, real estate, interior design etc. The online course Cathy created to teach others how to license their songs to TV and film How Cathy transitioned her knowledge to the podcast platform The difference between a hobby and business Finding your audience and who you’re creating things for How you can make a living by doing four specific things Why outreach and the value you can add is important Creating content Authenticity Why we must be willing to be uncomfortable Consistency and showing up And so much more…   Quotes “The mind likes to suffer, but I don’t need to.”   “The opposite of depression is purpose.”   “Success without meaning or fulfillment is an ultimate failing.”   “What makes any business works is radical empathy.”   “Vulnerability is the most powerful tool anyone has.”   “Wherever you are, there’s something you have that you can help somebody with.”   “We are all in beta – no one has it together.”   “Be willing to be a mess and do it anyway.” --   Cathy Heller is a fire hose of inspiration. She’s the host of the popular podcast, Don’t Keep Your Day Job, and was recently given the No. 1 spot on iTunes show recommendation list for the New Year. Each week, Cathy encourages thousands and thousands of listeners to find more purpose in their life and get paid to do what they love full time. She started out as a singer/songwriter and found success licensing her music to TV, film and ads. Quickly she became a stand-out in her field and was featured in magazines like Billboard, Variety and the LA Weekly. She started teaching online courses to artists which were quite successful and she’s been asked to speak at Podcast Movement, Social Media Worldwide, UCLA, Berklee School of Music, The Grammy Museum and the Billboard Film/TV Conference.   Since starting her podcast, Cathy’s show has been mentioned in the NY Times and Inc. Magazine’s “Top 9 podcasts.” She’s been featured several times by Apple and her fans are resonating with how genuine she is. Throughout the show, she has interviewed creative entrepreneurs like designer Jonathan Adler, make-up artist Bobbi Brown, dancer Mandy Moore, fashionista Tamara Mellon, novelist Emily Giffin and Gretchen Rubin to name a few. Cathy’s girl-next-door approach and out-of-the-box hustling style is helping so many people feel hopeful and excited about what lies ahead. Cathy often says “purpose is the opposite of depression,” and she truly helps lift people to be the happiest version of themselves. Subscribe to Social Business Engine Apple Podcasts |Stitcher |Google Play On this episode of Social Business Engine you’re going to meet Cathy McPhillips, Vice President of Marketing at the Content Marketing Institute. CMI has successfully positioned itself as the premier resource for marketers who want to learn about content marketing. Cathy reveals a key metric in their marketing that enables the company to convert by a factor of 10 on their most coveted offering, the annual Content Marketing World conference. Bernie has spoken at the event 7 times and it ranks as one of his favorite weeks out of the year. You’ll want to check it out. Cathy is in a unique position at CMI because she is able to filter all of the company’s marketing strategy for CMW through her own lens as a marketer. In most scenarios, applying a personal lens to marketing is a bad idea. In Cathy’s case, however, she IS representative of the target audience for CMW. Her career experiences and expertise in content marketing make for a fantastic conversation. Be sure to listen. This episode is sponsored by SAP. Download the ungated case study titled, “Savvy Social Selling the SAP Way.” You’ll learn how SAP sales reps fill their sales pipeline with deals that are 560% larger on average when using social selling techniques. Download the case study without a form to fill out. It’s ungated. Why Marketing to Marketers is What the Content Marketing Institute Does Best CMI creates resources for marketers that are the benchmark standard for anything relating to content marketing. They are the top cited resource for companies across the globe and they strive to connect to CMOs through a variety of different strategies. Cathy and her team realize the challenges that CMI faces when trying to market to people who do content marketing for a living. A CMO’s schedule is stretched more thinly than ever before and individuals have limited time to check email, watch a webinar, or listen to a podcast. The team at the Content Marketing Institute understands their audience and their concerns fully, and having that understanding allows them to create world-renowned resources. You don’t want to miss hearing Cathy tell Bernie about the latest and greatest strategies CMI has up its sleeve. How CMI Identifies Who Are 10x More Likely to Attend Content Marketing World Content Marketing World is CMI’s greatest event every calendar year. What started as a simple conference with 600 attendees has grown into a massive gathering of content marketing professionals. The event covers the entire content marketing process, from content creation to analytics and measuring ROI. It’s the largest event of its kind on the planet and attracts professionals from across the world. Cathy expects over 6,000 attendees for the 2018 conference in September, and the event shows no signs of slowing down. How does Cathy know just how many people to expect, even before registrations are submitted? She explains to Bernie that people who take 3 or more actions within the CMI website (i.e. subscribing to an email, watching a webinar, etc.), are 10x more likely to attend the CMW event in person. By using an omnichannel marketing approach CMI is able to put content in front of people in a variety of ways and then capture their attention and convert it into registration dollars. Cathy shares insider secrets relevant to Content Marketing World 2018 that you don't want to miss. Be sure to listen. An Old School Idea That Has Secured Over 27,000 Qualified Subscribers for the Content Marketing Institute The Content Marketing Institute also uses metrics and data analysis for business practices outside of the CMW sector. In an interesting turn of the conversation, Bernie and Cathy discuss how the CMI team publishes a quarterly, printed magazine entitled Chief Content Officer. This magazine is yet another example of CMI’s fantastic omnichannel marketing approach. Cathy knows that it’s simultaneously harder and easier to market to professional content marketers. That’s why she and her team aren’t afraid to pursue every avenue of content delivery. Even though some may argue print is outdated, the CCO publication has resulted in over 27,000 qualified subscribers for CMI. In other words, it has built an amazingly robust audience database of people that are intimately engaged with the best materials CMI releases every quarter. When professional marketers disconnect from technology, they’re still connected to CMI and content marketing through the CCO magazine. It brings the brand to life and is an ingenious way of sharing the latest information on the content marketing industry.
