This long-term senior living veteran calls out the industry for being a one-trick pony. Find out why three quarters of the older adult market goes largely unaddressed, and the bigger market opportunity is farther up the pyramid of Maslow's hierarchy of needs—helping people satisfy their need for growth and self-actualization. About Dan Dan Hutson is chief marketing officer for Claiborne Senior Living, a privately held owner-operator of senior living communities throughout the Southeastern United States. He has more than 30 years of experience in helping organizations meet their marketing, communications, and strategic planning needs. Before joining Claiborne, he served as chief strategy officer for HumanGood, the seventh-largest U.S. nonprofit provider of senior housing serving 10,000 older adults. As CSO, he was responsible for strategic planning, sales and marketing, corporate communications, and innovation and experience design. Dan has spoken on senior living trends, marketing, innovation, and other topics at the NIC Fall Conference, SMASH Conference, the Argentum Chief Executive Summit, LeadingAge national and state conferences, and other gatherings of senior living leaders. He also has served on the advisory board of SMASH and the conference education planning committees for the NIC Fall Conference and LeadingAge Annual Meeting & EXPO. His marketing and communication programs have been honored by the National Mature Media Awards, Content Marketing Awards, EXCEL Awards and Healthcare Marketing IMPACT Awards. Key Takeaways Senior living needs to move away from a rigidly constructed living experience oriented around healthcare. It is not aligned with how people want to live. The nature of a care-based model makes us more risk averse than other industries. People equate their current homes with the greatest freedom to live life on their terms. They don't want to live in a setting perceived as limiting freedom and independence. There is an opportunity for senior living providers to work with outside partners to create greater value for customers.

E aí vem um diferencial do Content Marketing World. Eu normalmente consigo.

Entrepreneurs know the power of word of mouth, but not many of us put strategies in place to utilize it. We use the same, tired strategies of discount codes for referring friends or a BOGO sale to bring in new customers. Research shows that one out of two products are purchased because of word of mouth, but still we leave it up to hope or the chance that something will go viral. Instead, you can learn what your customers want and create something remarkable that they'll need to tell their friends about- Talk Triggers. Talk Triggers are strategic operational differentiators done on purpose that create conversation and bring you new customers. They are not a coupon or a contest, and they differ from “Surprise and Delight” tactics. They are something that you do for every customer, every day. You can look at companies with successful Talk Triggers (Cheesecake Factory and their large menu, Double Tree and their cookies) and work backwards to see how the arrived at their end result and how that could be repeatable for you. To dive deeper into this concept, I've brought on an expert who knows all about the power of word of mouth: Jay Baer. Jay Baer is a New York Times bestselling author of six books, an inductee into the Word of Mouth Marketing Hall of Fame, and a renowned business strategist. He's a go-to media source for places like NPR, USA Today, Time, Real Simple, CBC and more. Jay has started more than five multimillion-dollar companies from scratch. He's also the host of the Social Pros podcast which was named best marketing podcast in the 2015 Content Marketing Awards. Download this episode today to learn how you can utilize word of mouth to create conversations and bring in new customers in a scalable way. WARRIOR OF PATTERN RECOGNITION  “Our job is to give our customers the best advice. Their job is to decide whether or not to take it.” -Jay Baer Highlights - Word of mouth is the most effective way to generate customers for any business. We are physiologically wired to talk about things that are different and ignore things that are average. The Talk Trigger is an operational choice. It's what happens every single day. “Surprise and Delight” is when you treat one customer in a way that is disproportionately amazing in the hope that it goes viral. Talk Triggers have four parts: remarkable, relevant, reasonable, and repeatable. You have to get to know your customers to find what they really want. What is programmatic advertising? It has become a common practice in digital marketing agencies, but the term might be new to most people. Programmatic Advertising is the process of targeting specific users with your ad - which can be a more efficient spend of advertising dollars. The IAB is estimating that by 2018, programmatic advertising will be over 80% of a company's marketing spend - so it is definitely a market digital marketers need to be aware of. So we wanted to bring on Priya Kapoor of Point It. They have a great programmatic team at Point It and Priya is one of their Programmatic Campaign Managers. She has been in digital marketing for only a couple years and has caught on very quickly! This show we also have a very exciting announcement to make! Edge of the Web just received the "Best Podcast/Audio Series" award for 2017 from the Content Marketing Institute and Content Marketing Awards! We are very honored to have received the award and we're excited to meet everyone at the Content Marketing World in September.
