On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we continue unpacking WWDC 2026 and take a closer look at iOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, and Apple's other new software updates coming this fall.00:00 — Intro & beta check-in00:42 — OS compatibility cuts: watchOS, iOS, macOS, tvOS, iPadOS09:49 — Sponsor: Claude11:08 — Liquid Glass refinements & redesigned icons14:10 — Shortcuts with natural language16:34 — Sidebar icons, extra-large widgets & foldable iPhone hints18:43 — Siri's new design & dynamic island shape20:20 — Siri AI in practice: autocorrect, clarifications, and daily use25:57 — Third-party AI extensions & region availability30:03 — Apple Intelligence across apps: Messages, Image Playground, Genmoji, Passwords, nutrition39:35 — macOS Golden Gate & the keynote's new format44:39 — iPadOS, watchOS, visionOS, tvOS, and HomeKit hintsiOS 27 supports the same iPhones as iOS 26, including the iPhone 11 and second-generation iPhone SE, giving the update the widest device compatibility of any iOS release to date.macOS Golden Gate drops Intel Macs entirely, confirming the end of an era that Apple flagged a year earlier when it said macOS Tahoe would be the final release for pre-Apple silicon machines. Four models that ran Tahoe miss out: the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019), the 13-inch MacBook Pro with four Thunderbolt 3 ports (2020), the 2020 iMac, and the 2019 Mac Pro. Golden Gate is also the last version with full Rosetta 2 support, meaning the translation layer that keeps Intel-built apps running on Apple silicon will disappear entirely after this release.iPadOS 27 raises its hardware floor to the A14 Bionic or M1 chip, cutting the fifth-generation iPad mini, the eighth-generation iPad, the third-generation iPad Air, the first-generation 11-inch iPad Pro, and the third-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro.watchOS 27 makes the steepest cuts in Apple Watch history, dropping the Series 6, Series 7, Series 8, original Ultra, and second-generation SE in a single wave and effectively erasing three years of device support at once. The only models that remain compatible are the Series 9, Series 10, Series 11, Ultra 2, Ultra 3, and SE 3.tvOS 27 drops two Apple TV models, the Apple TV HD from 2015 and the first-generation Apple TV 4K from 2017, leaving only the second- and third-generation Apple TV 4K boxes supported. In iOS 27, notifications now slide in from the left edge of the screen rather than dropping down from the top, and reaching Notification Centre requires swiping down from the top-left corner instead of the centre, freeing up that gesture for Siri. Other changes include colorful sidebar icons, real-time widget updates when an app is already open, extra-large Home Screen widgets, and web audio that no longer interrupts other system audio. The centerpiece of the update is Siri AI, which replaces Spotlight with a "Search or Ask" interface accessed by swiping down from the center of the display. Siri is designed to tone-match a user's own writing style when composing messages. Apple's pill-shaped Siri indicator is seemingly a hardware workaround for current Dynamic Island constraints, and a smaller Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro could allow the indicator to become a true circle. On the Apple Watch, Siri AI requires pairing with an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence. In the European Union, Siri AI is available on macOS and visionOS at launch but not on the iPhone or iPad.Apple Intelligence is also getting smarter Writing Tools and a composition assistant in Mail and Messages that adapts to how a user typically communicates with different contacts. Apple has overhauled Genmoji, adding a "Describe a change" interface for iterating on existing creations and the ability to start a new Genmoji from an existing emoji, a photo, or a person tagged in the user's photo library. Image Playground similarly adds support for multiple aspect ratios for wallpapers, Contact Posters, and social media images, alongside new photorealistic image generation.Visual Intelligence, meanwhile, gets a new primary entry point called Siri Mode, though holding down Camera Control still works as an alternative. The feature is expanding to the iPad and Mac, and now supports importing multiple calendar events from a single photo of a flyer, as well as importing contacts directly from a photographed business card.On the Mac, macOS Golden Gate extends toolbars and sidebars to the edges of the screen with a more consistent, tighter corner radius across windows. iPadOS 27 adds undo and redo for Home Screen edits, extra-large widgets in Today View, an optional persistent menu bar, and Visual Intelligence support for screenshots combined with Apple Pencil highlighting. Notes gains an Image Wand tool that generates photorealistic images from rough sketches, the Siri app gets a dedicated sidebar with full windowing support, and Shortcuts adds support for Magic Keyboard triggers.watchOS 27 drops the Walkie-Talkie app entirely, with the feature missing from both the app list and Control Center in the first developer beta, while adding new Smart Stack suggestions, more accurate step tracking, and a consolidated Find My app. visionOS 27 lets users activate Siri simply by looking at its on-screen bubble rather than requiring a button press, and adds a redesigned Control Center along with new curved windows. tvOS 27 brings a redesigned Podcasts app, Hi-Res Lossless audio support in Apple Music, and on-device processing for HomeKit Secure Video.Ready to tackle bigger problems? Ascolta An iPad guy su YouTube Podcast.Supporta il podcast

Your iPhone might be running hot and draining fast — and it’s not just you. Dave and Pilot Pete break down the battery chaos introduced by iOS 26.5, which brought overheating, accelerated drain, and even blocked wired charging on iPhone 17 and Air models. The fix that’s working for most people: disable iCloud Keychain first, run Reset All Settings, then carefully re-enable iCloud sync — otherwise you’ll nuke your Wi-Fi passwords across every device. iOS 26.5.1 is out and should help, but until you’ve updated, your electrons deserve better. You’ll also learn why Apple ID passkeys are locked to Apple’s own keychain with no known path to third-party managers like 1Password or Keeper, and why editing a contact on a modern Mac can somehow peg every CPU core — in 2026, no less. From there, Dave and Pete tackle the full listener mailbag: how to rescue missing contact names from Messages, the right way to boot a MacBook with a broken display into clamshell mode so it actually uses the external monitor, and a deep dive on 5K vs. 4K displays where Dave argues your eyes may not care as much as the pixel-per-inch math suggests. You’ll get smart ideas for repurposing a 2015 iPad Pro that can’t run modern apps — including Dave’s Claude Code-built weather dashboard running off a headless iMac as a web interface. A crashing 2021 MacBook Pro turns out to have been felled by a single bad SD card, and the lesson is golden: feed your crash reports to an LLM and let it do the digging. And Don’t Get Caught with outdated OpenAI macOS apps — update ChatGPT, Codex, Atlas, and Codex CLI before June 12th to stay ahead of a code-signing rotation triggered by a compromised open-source library. 00:00:00 Mac Geek Gab 1145 for Monday, June 8th, 2026 June 8th: National Best Friends Day MGG Monthly Giveaway – Win a license to SaneBox Quick Tips 00:00:01 Dan-QT-Multi-select on iPhone with a quick drag 00:04:31 Tim-QT-Have iOS 26.5 Battery Drain? WATCH THE EPISODE HEREHighlights & “Must-Listen” Moments* 0:00 — Amy's food week: New iPad, spinach artichoke dip, and a Portland, Maine eating trip: Amy's rocking a new-to-her iPad Pro with a suspiciously flattering built-in filter she has no intention of turning off. David (bravely) compliments her on how great she's been looking. Amy's her son Ollie is a high school senior, and Scott made her a video of his first 18 years for Mother's Day that had her in tears in a quarter of a second.* On the food front: a spinach artichoke dip brought to a friend's house for the (heartbreaking) Celtics playoff loss, brownies for a school play rehearsal from a beloved Betty Crocker Cookbook for Kids circa 1980–81 (butter + unsweetened chocolate, double boiler, no shortcuts), and a strawberry ricotta cannoli tart with a press-in shortbread crust that she's calling her summer go-to.* 3:37 — Portland, Maine: Amy's restaurant report: Ladyfish — a six-month residency pop-up from Jordan Rubin (Mr. Tuna) and New York chef Christine Lau — serving strikingly fresh seafood and a vermouth program Amy says will define her summer (”vermouth and soda with a squeeze of lemon”). Leeward: the restaurant where even the salad makes you want to fall out of your chair. Bread & Friends for breakfast. ZuBakery, a James Beard Award winner. The density of great restaurants in Portland remains unmatched.* 8:27 — David's food week: A Swiss chard and leek tart, blueberry crumble, Amatriciana, and vinegar-glossed chicken: David attempted to wake at 7:30 and cook a tart, a crumble, prep a podcast, shower, make reservations to Greece (September!), and book doctor's appointments — all before noon. ADHD-addled but determined. The tart: Swiss chard, leeks, and goat cheese in an herb crust with chopped rosemary and thyme, custard of cream and eggs and nutmeg, pre-baked, gorgeous. Served alongside the blueberry crumble from his website for French friends visiting from Roxbury, Connecticut. He also made Amatriciana again (guanciale, San Marzano tomatoes, red pepper flakes) and, for the first time since its publication, Lucinda Scala Quinn's vinegar-glossed chicken from Mad Hungry — thighs started in a cold skillet, rendered low and slow, finished with a full cup of red wine vinegar, rosemary, and garlic until it becomes a syrupy glaze. Verdict: extraordinary. Next time, a touch of honey.* 9:28 — Introducing Fresh by Lisa Steele: Lisa Steele is a Maine-based backyard farmer, seasonal cook, and author of the Fresh Eggs Daily Cookbook. She raises chickens, ducks, and geese on a rural farm and brings her Scandinavian heritage and New England roots to everything she makes. Her second cookbook, In Season: 125+ Sweet and Savory Recipes Celebrating Simple, Fresh Ingredients, just came out.She also hosted two seasons of Welcome to My Farm on American Public Television/PBS. Yankee Magazine featured the book in its March/April issue — thanks, Amy!* 10:49 — The family chicken legacy: Lisa grew up in central Massachusetts, where her grandparents ran a full commercial two-story, two-wing chicken barn. She was in 4-H and has been around chickens for most of her life. David's husband remains unmoved after 30 years of lobbying — until Lisa offers the decisive argument: “There are many other potential husbands out there.” (Shouted into the kitchen. Received without comment.)* 13:30 — The quality of grocery store eggs, and what backyard eggs actually taste like: Lisa makes the case that the backyard chicken movement pressured commercial egg producers to raise their standards — fresher eggs, brighter yolks, more variety. And yes, you can manipulate yolk color by adding carotenoid-rich foods (leafy greens, paprika, marigold, alfalfa, xanthophyll) to feed. But nothing compares to an egg collected from your coop and baked with that same morning.* 16:50 — Why In Season is not a farm-to-table book (even though it kind of is): Lisa wanted to write another egg cookbook. Her agent said sequels don't sell. Harper Collins bought “farm-to-table” immediately. Lisa hated the phrase, negotiated a full chapter on eggs, and eventually came around — because the seasonal structure actually forced her to write more versatile recipes. She even discovered she likes salads now, provided there are blackberries and feta on them. The words “farm to table” do not appear in the book.* 18:32 — The structure of the book — seasonal within categories: Chapters are organized by type (soups, salads, etc.), but within each chapter, recipes are sorted seasonally. So you're not just looking for soup — you're looking for a soup that belongs to this time of year. One Goodreads reviewer complained that what's in season in Maine isn't what's in season everywhere. Lisa's response: fair point, but she wrote it universally, not for Maine specifically — because if she had, there would be no spring chapter.* 19:44 — Lisa's garden (and its honest current state): In Virginia, Lisa had a huge horse-pasture garden fertilized with manure — cucumbers, squash, pumpkins, everything thriving. In Maine, she took the Master Gardener program and learned that the very long summer days compensate for the short frost-free season (roughly 100 days). She's grown sweet potatoes, watermelon, and corn. Today? A dedicated garlic bed, herb planters on the deck, and whatever tomato plant a friend hands her. She's at peace with this.* 22:14 — Amy's garden confession: Three blocks from the Boston city line, Amy has a small four-by-four raised bed. Last year she gave up on vegetables and grew flowers instead. This year: herbs. Lisa approves — fresh tarragon and dill are genuinely hard to source locally, and herbs are where home growing makes the most impact (looking at you, tomatoes).* 25:15 — Sweet deviled eggs — Black Forest and Piña Colada: The book has a chapter on sweet deviled eggs. The Black Forest deviled eggs came from a failed blueberry cheesecake deviled egg attempt (the yolk turned gray — a dead end). Lisa pivoted to chocolate and landed on something that tastes almost like chocolate pudding in an egg white. The Piña Colada version features coconut on top. If you serve enough margaritas alongside them, no one will even notice the eggs.* 27:05 — The case for steaming eggs (and against boiling them): David and Lisa are both committed steamers. The method: an inch or two of water in a pot, a bamboo steamer/colander/mesh strainer, add eggs once steam is coming through, cover, same timing as boiling (10–12 minutes for hard-cooked), then straight into ice water. Benefits over boiling: eggs peel perfectly every time (even fresh eggs), no cracking from bouncing in boiling water, no gray-green ring around the yolk (steaming is gentler heat), and that hot-to-cold shock does something sciencey that makes the shell release cleanly. No baking soda, no holes poked, no counter-popping required. David calls the pocked, dimpled result of boiled eggs “egg acne.” He has been cured for twelve years.* 33:38 — How to make creamy scrambled eggs: Fresh eggs only — they have enough moisture that you don't need to add milk or water. Whisk really well (air = creaminess). Butter in a pan over low heat. Pour in, move for large curds or stir more for small. The key: take them off before they look done. They should still be wet and glossy. The enemy is overcooking, which leads to dry, weepy eggs with liquid seeping around the edges of the plate.* 35:24 — Poaching eggs in things other than water: Starting with the basic whirlpool technique, Lisa began asking: why are we limiting ourselves to water? The book includes eggs poached in maple syrup (served over buttered toast, it reads like a deconstructed pancake), beer, wine, and butter beer. The Avgolemono poached eggs — borrowing from the classic Greek egg-and-lemon soup — bring citrus brightness without extra salt or seasonings.* 37:31 — Scandinavian heritage in the book: Lisa's grandparents emigrated from Finland to International Falls, Minnesota (cold and snowy, just like home, which they quickly reconsidered) before landing on Cape Cod and then Central Massachusetts. Lisa spent a year in Finland in sixth grade while her father completed his doctorate. The cookbook includes a Finnish Creamed Rice with Cranberry Soup — something between rice pudding and a floating island — with a thick cranberry sauce (standing in for Finland's lingonberries) and whipped cream, re-created from memory of a great-aunt's version because there was no recipe to inherit.* 40:30 — Maple brown sugar pot de crème with bourbon whipped cream and bacon bits: Maine means maple. Lisa tried variations on crème brûlée for years and kept finding that it's too pure a dessert to mess with (she even objects to restaurant versions served with cookies and berries alongside — “it should just be it”). She pivoted to pot de crème, which is more forgiving and invites variations.* The maple-bacon version is spectacular. David makes his own espresso maple bacon — cured five days with maple and espresso powder, then smoked — which he describes as “breakfast in a bite.”* 42:22 — The Burnt Basque Cheesecake: Lisa included it before it went truly viral, when she felt it was still something most people hadn't heard of. The appeal: no crust, much more forgiving than traditional cheesecake, deeply flavorful from the caramelization. (David makes a pomegranate molasses version.) The challenge of cookbook timing: you write a recipe thinking it's a discovery, and by the time the book comes out two years later, it's everywhere — or in some cases, something you created for a TV episode goes viral and you can never quite prove it.* 43:45 — The flight of jammy eggs went viral — and Lisa was doing it first: Lisa featured a row of varied jammy eggs on a wooden board as part of an episode of Welcome to My Farm before it exploded on social media. She was not happy when it happened. “I was cringing inside.” The cookbook timing problem strikes again — you turn in your manuscript over a year before publication, and the world moves fast.* 44:52 — How to actually start keeping backyard chickens: Go to a feed store, get baby chicks, bring them home in a box. For six to eight weeks, keep them in a plastic tote with a heat lamp, food, and water. Once they're big enough and it's warm enough outside: a small coop (doghouse-sized works for five or six chickens), close to the house, predator-proofed. Wait five to six months. Fresh eggs. No new husband required.* 45:13 — Goodbye, Lisa: She's at Fresh Eggs Daily across all social platforms. In Season is out now.Recipes Mentioned* Spinach Artichoke Dip (Amy's, for the Celtics wake)* Betty Crocker Cookbook for Kids Brownies (butter + unsweetened chocolate, double boiler — Amy will post this recipe)* Strawberry Ricotta Cannoli Tart (press-in shortbread crust, ricotta filling, fresh strawberries and raspberries)* Swiss Chard, Leek, and Goat Cheese Tart in an Herb Crust (with rosemary, thyme, and a cream-egg-nutmeg custard)* Blueberry Crumble* Bucatini all'Amatriciana (guanciale, San Marzano tomatoes, red pepper flakes)* Vinegar-Glossed Chicken (from Mad Hungry by Lucinda Scala Quinn)* Black Forest Deviled Eggs (chocolate yolk filling, from In Season)* Piña Colada Deviled Eggs (coconut-topped, from In Season)* Steamed Hard-Cooked Eggs (Lisa's method — bamboo steamer, ice water bath)* Scrambled Eggs (fresh eggs, butter, low heat, pulled early while still glossy)* Maple Syrup Poached Eggs (on buttered toast)* Avgolemono Poached Eggs (from In Season)* Finnish Rice Porridge with Cranberry Sauce and Whipped Cream (from In Season)* Maple Brown Sugar Pot de Crème with Bourbon Whipped Cream and Bacon (from In Season)* Burnt Basque Cheesecake (from In Season)* David's Pomegranate Molasses Basque Cheesecake* David's Espresso Maple Bacon (homemade, five-day cure, smoked)Books and Publications* In Season: 125+ Sweet and Savory Recipes Celebrating Simple, Fresh Ingredients by Lisa Steele — out now* Fresh Eggs Daily Cookbook by Lisa Steele — her first cookbook* Mad Hungry: Feeding Men and Boys by Lucinda Scala Quinn — source of the vinegar-glossed chicken* Pimento Cheese: The Southern Spread by Rebecca Lang — mentioned in passingWhere to Find Us* Amy Traverso* Instagram | Yankee* David Leite* Instagram | Pinterest | Facebook | Youtube* Lisa Steele* Blog | Instagram | YouTube This is a public episode. Host Mike Rosado welcomes master penman Jake Weidmann to the Pencil Pushers Podcast to discuss his path from lifelong, largely self-taught drawing and sculpture to becoming the youngest certified Master Penman (at 26, in 2011). Weidman recounts being rejected from Biola University's art program, then regaining momentum through major commissions (including carving a family crest into moose antler) and learning how market feedback and viewer response complete the creative process. He explains discovering copperplate calligraphy after a classmate requested wedding invitations, attending penman conferences, and earning certification by executing his own ornate certificate. Weidmann details his process and materials (including gouache-based ink), handling mistakes (and a major vellum restoration), balancing intense work with raising four kids, collaborating with Apple for the first iPad Pro, and arguing that human craft and meaning remain vital amid digitization and Ai. On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we talk through Apple's upcoming overhaul of the iPad mini and iPad Air, looking at the future of the product lineup as a whole. The headline upgrade is a switch from LCD to OLED display technology. The iPad mini 8 is expected to use a single-stack LTPS panel, which is dimmer than the tandem OLED in the iPad Pro, but a substantial step up from the current display. The screen will also likely grow from 8.3 to 8.7 inches, and ProMotion is a possibility. On the chip, sources disagree. Code Apple accidentally published in August pointed to the A19 Pro, but a other evidencesuggests the device will use the unreleased A20 Pro chip instead. The N1 and C1X chips are also highly likely to be present. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple is also working on a more water-resistant design, which would make new the iPad mini the first in the lineup to carry an official IP rating. Apple is said to have developed a vibration-based speaker system that eliminates traditional speaker holes, removing a primary path for water ingress. The scale of the upgrades strongly suggests a redesigned, thinner chassis to accommodate them. Gurman says the upgrades could push the price up by as much as $100 to around $599. The leaker known as “Instant Digital" has said the device will launch in the second half of 2026 at the earliest.Apple is also expected to update the iPad Air in early 2027, with the headline change similarly being a switch to OLED. Like the iPad mini 8, the Air is expected to use a single-stack LTPS panel supplied by Samsung Display, keeping costs down relative to the tandem OLED in the iPad Pro. Arriving over six years after the device's last redesign, it is also likely to feature a new design similar to the iPad mini, along with the M5 chip. The next iPad Pro is expected in spring 2027, with an M6 chip and a vapor chamber cooling system similar to the one Apple introduced in the iPhone 17 Pro, but no design changes are rumored. With the iPad Air set to close the gap significantly by adopting OLED and a thinner design, the Pro's key differentiators will narrow considerably. A more transformative reason to choose the Pro may not arrive until Apple launches its long-rumored foldable iPad, which Gurman says will feature an 18-inch display. The device has faced development hurdles around weight and display technology and is now expected no earlier than 2029, with a price potentially reaching $3,900, up to three times the cost of the current 13-inch iPad Pro.Start your business with Shopify and get everything you need to sell online and in person. Dave Ginsburg is joined by Mike Potter, Chuck Joiner, Marty Jencius, Jill McKinley, and Eric Bolden to break down a big week of Apple news. The panel discusses visionOS 26.4 beta updates, iOS 26.4 beta, the new iPhone 17e, M4 iPad Air, and refreshed MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with M5 chips. The biggest debate centers around Apple's brand-new MacBook Neo, a $599 MacBook designed to compete with Chromebooks in education. Is it a smart gateway device for new users or an underpowered compromise? The panel shares strong opinions while also discussing Apple's strategy for expanding the Mac ecosystem. The discussion begins with updates across Apple's platforms, including visionOS 26.4 beta 3, which appears to focus mainly on bug fixes and stability improvements as Apple prepares the platform for a future release. The panel shares their early impressions of the update process and discusses how developers are continuing to explore new possibilities around XR streaming and immersive experiences on Vision Pro. The group then moves into Apple's latest software updates, including iOS 26.3.1 and iOS 26.4 beta 3, along with updates for iPadOS, tvOS, and watchOS. While many of the updates are minor, Apple continues refining features such as Apple Music's Playlist Playground and preparing Apple Podcasts for native video podcast support. The panel also notes Apple's continued improvements to system security and stability while reminding listeners that beta software should still be used cautiously on primary devices. A major part of the episode focuses on Apple's latest hardware announcements. The panel begins with the iPhone 17e, Apple's new entry-level iPhone that includes the A19 chip, improved portrait photography, MagSafe support, and a 256GB base storage configuration while maintaining a competitive $599 starting price. The group discusses how this model could become the ideal recommendation for many users who want a reliable iPhone without paying for a higher-end Pro model. They also explore how the device could work well as a travel phone, a secondary phone, or a practical upgrade for family members who want simplicity and value. Next, the panel examines the newly refreshed iPad Air with the M4 chip, which now includes 12GB of RAM, Wi-Fi 7, and Apple's N1 wireless networking chip. The panel largely agrees that the iPad Air continues to be the "sweet spot" in Apple's tablet lineup, offering powerful performance without the premium cost of an iPad Pro. They discuss how the Air remains the most common recommendation for everyday users who want a capable iPad for productivity, media consumption, and general use. The conversation then shifts to the Mac side of Apple's announcements. Apple updated the Studio Display with Thunderbolt 5 support and upgraded internals, though the panel debates whether the premium pricing makes sense compared to other high-quality displays on the market. The discussion continues with Apple's updates to the MacBook Air with the M5 chip and the MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, which bring major performance gains, increased base storage, and improved graphics capabilities. Dave shares that he plans to upgrade his own MacBook Pro to an M5 Pro model, while the panel reflects on how dramatically Apple Silicon has improved Mac performance since the M1 era. The biggest debate of the episode centers around Apple's surprising announcement of the MacBook Neo, a brand-new entry-level MacBook starting at $599 and powered by an A18 Pro chip. Designed to compete directly with Chromebooks in education markets, the Neo introduces a new tier in Apple's laptop lineup. The panel dives into a lively discussion about whether the Neo represents a smart strategy to expand Apple's reach or a compromise that may struggle with longevity due to its limited memory and ports. Mike Potter delivers a passionate critique, arguing that the device feels like a disposable computer aimed primarily at schools, while other panelists see it as a secure, well-built, and affordable entry point for students, travelers, and users who need a simple Mac for basic tasks. The conversation also explores how the Neo might introduce a new generation of users to macOS while potentially competing with low-cost Windows laptops and Chromebooks. Some panelists see it as a gateway device that could lead users to upgrade to more powerful Macs later, while others question whether a refurbished MacBook Air might be a better long-term option. To close the show, Mike Potter shares updates on MacStock 10, including expanded programming, the addition of Ecamm's Creator Camp, and a new Saturday evening event that will be announced soon. The panel reflects on how MacStock continues to grow each year as an important gathering for Apple enthusiasts and creators. Topics and Links In Touch With Vision Pro this week. The MacVoices Live! panel continues to examine Apple's latest hardware news. This time,Chuck Joiner, David Ginsburg, Brian Flanigan-Arthurs, Marty Jencius, Jeff Gamet, Eric Bolden, Web Bixby, and Jim Rea examine the refreshed Studio XDR display, an M4 iPad Air update, and the iPhone 17e. The crew debates whether premium displays justify their cost, why “pro” products struggle with mainstream perception, and how the iPad Air fits real workflows. They also praise the 17e's value, especially MagSafe and higher base storage, and speculate that rising base specs may be preparing for a smarter Siri. The MacVoices Live! panel continues to examine Apple's latest hardware news. This time,Chuck Joiner, David Ginsburg, Brian Flanigan-Arthurs, Marty Jencius, Jeff Gamet, Eric Bolden, Web Bixby, and Jim Rea examine the refreshed Studio XDR display, an M4 iPad Air update, and the iPhone 17e. The crew debates whether premium displays justify their cost, why "pro" products struggle with mainstream perception, and how the iPad Air fits real workflows. They also praise the 17e's value, especially MagSafe and higher base storage, and speculate that rising base specs may be preparing for a smarter Siri. On this year's final episode of The MacRumors Show, we take a look back at all of Apple's major announcements and new products from 2025. In February, Apple introduced the iPhone 16e, positioned as a replacement for the iPhone SE as a lower-cost model, starting at $599. It offers the A18 chip and a 48-megapixel camera in an iPhone 13-style design, but with matte back glass, a USB-C port, and no MagSafe. The device debuted Apple's custom C1 5G modem, replacing components from Qualcomm for the first time. In March, Apple refreshed several iPads and Macs. The standard iPad was updated with there A16 chip, and noticeably still lacks Apple Intelligence support. The 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air was refreshed with M3 chip, and Apple released redesigned Magic Keyboard for it. Apple also updated the MacBook Air with the M4 chip and introduced a new Mac Studio with M4 Max and M3 Ultra chip options. At WWDC in June, Apple previewed its major software updates for the year. The biggest announcement was the introduction of Liquid Glass, an all-new design language for all of Apple's software platforms. iOS 26 redesigned apps such as Phone and Photos, and added Live Translation with AirPods, a host of new features for Messages, and a new Games app. iPadOS 26 introduced a new, Mac-like multitasking system with windows, while macOS 26 Tahoe revamped Spotlight with a clipboard history feature and quick commands. In September, Apple released its annual iPhone lineup update. The iPhone 17 features a larger display with ProMotion for refresh rates up to 120Hz and a 48-megapixel Fusion ultra-wide camera. The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max tout a completely new aluminum unibody frame with a large, full-width camera plateau and vapor chamber cooling. The telephoto camera received a major upgrade to 48-megapixels, with options for 4x and 8x optical zoom. The iPhone Air arrived as a totally new iPhone option, replacing the "Plus" model in the lineup. Sitting between the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro, the iPhone Air has a radically thin design with a polished titanium frame, and uses Apple's custom C1X and N1 connectivity chips. The device only has one rear camera, a single speaker, and supports eSIM only. All of the new iPhones feature an A19 or A19 Pro chip, Ceramic Shield 2, a 18-megapixel Centre Stage front-facing camera with a square sensor, and new color options. Apple also released updated charging and accessory products, including a new MagSafe battery designed specifically for the iPhone Air, TechWoven cases, and crossbody straps. Apple refreshed its wearable and audio lineups in the same month. Apple Watch SE was updated with the S10 chip and an always-on display. The aluminum Apple Watch Series 11 gained stronger front glass and a slightly bigger battery, while the Apple Watch Ultra 3 gains satellite connectivity for the first time. Cellular models of the new Apple Watches feature 5G connectivity. Apple also released the third generation of AirPods Pro, with improved active noise cancellation, a more refined design with ear tips that include foam, and heart-rate sensing. In October, Apple updated the iPad Pro, 14-inch MacBook Pro, and Vision Pro with the M5 chip. The new Vision Pro also gained a new dual knit headband, promising improved comfort, along with better battery life, higher-refresh rate displays, more rendered pixels.
